5 out of 5 stars Jarre's Magnum Opus.......2007-06-11

Frenchman Jean Michel Jarre is an early pioneer of Electronica just like Germans Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream also were, but Jarre's music is more accessable with dreamy vibes and meliodic themes and neither is it minimalistic nor too exprimental, it's simply an opera of Electro with beautiful arrangements. Released in 1977 "Oxygene" was an early electronica masterpiece that would not only be one of the bluprints for upcoming eletro music but would also be one of the finest, most meliodic and dreamy Electronica albums of all time. Talented composer Jarre creates a fantastic sound with his synthesizer(s) that still to this day is fascinating to listen to. Back then it was quite unusual that one artist singlehandedly could create such a colourful athmosphere using so few instruments but it almost feels like in space listening to Oxygene and although all of the 6 songs share the same name they are completely diffrent but tangled into a great concept. Oxygène Part IV was single released and huge hit the same year, in the video for the song you could see a penguin march from Antarctica. That song like all others are instrumental but for Jarre words are redundant and he'll capture you entirely with his sound instead and you'll discover new details after each listen. This album is only 40 minutes in lenght but if you have listened to the likes of Robert Miles, Air and BT, I'll be recommending you to check out Jean Michel Jarre aswell cause his music influenced them all.

5 out of 5 stars Mona Lisa of electronica.......2007-06-10

Electronic tunes at their best. Listen to this and chill. I still chill with this after all these years. What can I say. His music is so universal, the Iranian radio and tv, have been using his tunes since the revolution for all their sports programs, of course without giving him credit. The power of good music.

5 out of 5 stars A long-lost friend.......2007-04-14

I really enjoyed this when I was a kid, many moons ago. It still does it for me.
It was composed when the complex synth systems were emerging. What makes this work unique is not that it was one of the first, but that it is a lovely arrangement that offers an exploration of the medium. There are layered levels of musical complexity that when combined somehow do not overwhealm. I recommend you take the time in a quiet room with headphones and LISTEN. There is a lot to be found in the stereo mix.
Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Reach for the stars.......2007-01-16

Do not look unfavorably upon this peenemundic project. 1976 PONG came out (and how far has computer gaming evolved). Same holds true for electronica. 1976 OXYGENE was categorized under jazz (?). Now we know it as the Sputnik that changed the space and contour of a developing genre. Jarre's musical elements built upon set confirurations offering a whole new order of dimentionality. With this LP he expanded the ring of the horizon and allowed cosmic integration for a much greater spacial atmosphere. With futuristic energy and french melancholy he released composition from the conventions of naturalism. This progressive conviction to soar was expounded upon by numerous musicians to what we have today. A potpouri of electronic space/thinking music. The final oxygene track is the best arranged sculpted space you shall ever hear.

5 out of 5 stars Music from another time and space.......2007-01-08

This album is simply impressive, after all those years, it doesn't sound old at all. You could easily imagine that it has been release recently and that would still make sense. Great music, from future times !
A classic.

    Album Description

In 1997 Jarre looked back to his signature work, but instead of re-working the themes, he approached it as if he had finished OXYGENE 1-6 and then walked in the studio the next day in 1976, rather than two decades later. Jarre dusted off his classic analog synthesizers like the ARP 2600, VCS3, Mellotron and Theremin and continued on his epic journey. SPECIALY PRICED REISSUE.

Although a bit cynical at first, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the second Oxygene album was as good as the first. I now have both albums on my MP3 player, playing as a continuous soundtrack from Oxygene 1 thru Oxygene 13. If you liked Oxygene 1-6, you'll like Oxygene 7-13.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT HAPPENS WITHOUT OXYGEN?.......2005-07-10

I don't know what all these reviewers are bitching about. This is a fantastic album. Beautifully recorded with both analog and yes digitial sound sources (check the instrument list the Quasimidi Raven, Clavia Nordlead, KORG Prophecy, and Akai MPC3000 are definately all digital instruments).

One reviewer claims "analog" to be a "dead" sound source...then explain the number of digital instruments produced these days that emulate analogue subtractive syntheses: Alesis ION and MICRON, Korg's EA-1 and MS2000, Roland JP-8000, Kurzweil 2000 and 2600 series, Clavia's Nord series, Quasimidi's Polymorph and Raven, Red Sound's Dark Star and eleVAta ... and this list goes on and on. Analog is back baby.

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars.... Great "come-back" album for JM Jarre.......2005-07-10

Jean-Michelle enjoyed global success in the late 70-early 80s with his synthesizer-based albums "Oxygene", "Equinoxe", and "Magnetic Fields". After that, Jarre went on a wild spree of soundscape experimenting, steadily losing audiences. He finally put a stop to that with this 1997 release.

"Oxygene 7-13" (7 tracks, 41 min.) is what the title suggests, a straight sequel to Jarre's debut album, and a so very welcome return to the analogue (sounding) synthesizers of the 1977 "Oxygene" album. The tracks flow great from one to another. "Oxygene 7" is the excellent 11 min. opener that sets the table for other tracks. "Oxygene 8" is a terrific upbeat track, tipping the ol' hat to the influence of more modern club trancing music. Another highlight for me is "Oxygene 11", with synths and moogs bobbing hard. The last track is a funny one, not unlike "Magnetic Fields Part V", tongue firmly in cheek.

If you stopped caring for Jean-Michel Jarre after the "Magnetic Fields" album (as I pretty much did), this album is a true return to the sound of Jarre's early albums, you won't be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars best analogue album from jarre. BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE.......2005-04-03

....too bad it came so late, when the analogue days are clearly over. for me, this is the jmj's goodbye album. everything he made after this.. is ... well... too common.

      all tracks are 5 stars.
any jarre fan should fall in love with this instantly.

Electronic tunes at their best. Listen to this and chill. I still chill with this after all these years. What can I say. His music is so universal, the Iranian radio and tv, have been using his tunes since the revolution for all their sports programs, of course without giving him credit. The power of good music.

        Enjoy!

This album is simply impressive, after all those years, it doesn't sound old at all. You could easily imagine that it has been release recently and that would still make sense. Great music, from future times !
        A classic.
