hungarian groove.......2005-04-13

Why can't we get "Shalom" outside of Hungary? The best tracks on "Astronaut" come from that album, with awesome Hungarian folk singing mixed over the rhythms. This is a best-of compilation for export, not sold in Hungary, and it's a great introduction to one of the top electronica bands in Europe today. Some of the tracks are straightforward drum & bass, others sound distinctly "eastern europe" due to the use of traditional melodies. You haven't heard anything *quite* like this before...

It is one of the first albums by Anima Sound System and I think it's much better than newest one. The raw crossover of the traditional hungarian folk and the rolling beats with modern sounds makes you feel the way how exotic and beautiful the hungarian music is. My favorites are "Csango" and "Ket ut van elottem".

Anima Sound System have succeeded in bridging the gap between 70's roots reggae, contemporary dub and traditional Hungarian folk music.

The music eminating from Anima Sound System is uniquely soothing, mesmerizing and at once invigorating.

Decades ago, the famed composer Zoltan Kodaly traveled throughout the Carpathian basin recording local Hungarian folk music, which he then incorporated into his own compositions.

Today, in Anima Sound System, we find a direct lineage in maintaing the rich traditions of traditional Hungarian music, unexpectedly blended with the deep bass sounds inspired by King Tubby and Studio One in Kingston, Jamaica.

Dub music inherently is confined to the electronics that create it. With Anima Sound System, you have the unique addition of live human voice floating above the drum & bass soundset. It is in this element that the band seperates itself from others in its field. In addition a wide variety of horn instruments - the clarinet as well as traditional Hungarian instruments - are utilized to create a truly unique sound.

Anima Sound System is the finest contemporary music coming out of Hungary today.

Shalom is even better though. This is good music, and makes you have a really good mood right away. It's the techno version of Sebestyén Márta.
