Product Description
Pretty happy with where you are in life? Do the contents of your wallet define you? Are you as cool as those dancers on television because you wear the same khakis? If so, keep it up; it seems everything is working out great for you. If not, you may want to check out Naked Sunrise.
After three years of reclusive work in the studio, Nikhil emerges to deliver his long awaited, mammoth album Naked Sunrise to the masses. Playing and recording all the instruments himself, the guitar prodigy creates an intricate and beautiful work. Written and recorded only in the dark and blissful hours of the night after two in the morning, the music is the result of sleep-deprived supernovas of passionate improvisation. Naked Sunrise is more than an album it is an experience. It's unconventional song structures take you through a plethora of styles, sounds, images and textures. Pop melodies and virtuosity combine to make even the most progressive music accessible. The gorgeously poetic lyrics are expressed through highly emotive vocals that range from effect laced to tender and human. Largely a concept album, metaphors, clues and literary references abound in the lyrics, song titles, music, and artwork. The songs flow into each other like waves building in intensity. Melodies and lyrics are cleverly quoted in different songs with new instruments and textures, tying the cryptic message together even more. The designs and cover art are striking and beautiful. They hold the keys to understanding the concept along with the music. It is pleasantly surprising and rare, especially nowadays, to find well-crafted and meaningful artwork. The contrast between the direct music and the mystery behind the album is what makes it truly compelling. Whether you want to dissect every aspect of the music and artwork to see how it ties into the concept or want to wake up to the title track and spend your day immersed in a sea of beautiful melodies, Nikhil's Naked Sunrise will leave you more than satisfied it will leave you breathless.

Aphex Rules, This Rules.......2002-06-05
Oh yeah, don't listen to the reviews that tell you to buy some tasteless corporate music instead. The same problem is happening on the Aphex Twin pages. Some people just don't get Aphex, not to mention Radiohead, and the same thing is happening with Nikhil. Good music doesn't sound the same as everything else. These guys make their own rules. Deal with it! If you want to hear kicking rock guitar and new electronic music, this is a great record.
ENJOYED IT A LOT! A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!!!!!.......2002-06-05
Like one review noted: It is complex, so linking the songs may not be easy for the casual listener. I doubt many people have read The Language of Fear as it is very difficult to come by, or will get the Kesey references, but it's nice to see literate musicians in a world where the current pop stars are more likely to make a concept album about a Teen magazine or the back of a hair gel can. The songs do have the repeated motifs and melodies that link them and pull it all together though. It isn't exactly hard to notice a melody on guitar that comes back in another song played on piano. So most music fans could enjoy it on their own level. Fans of Dream Theater, Tool and prog-rock understand repeated motifs and sounds. But you still don't have to be an active listener to enjoy it.
I took a chance buying it off an auto-recommendation too, but unlike some, I actually read the album description and reviews BEFORE I bought it. I disagree with the few negative reviews. For easy-listening, manufactured pop go for Britney or Michael Bolton. People who read the reviews beforehand would've seen the one that said, "Anyone who wants to hear real talent instead of overmanufactured pop songs that all sound the same must check this album out!" This review is exactly why I chose to buy the Nikhil CD. If you wanted N'sync on guitar, should've gone elsewhere. All in all, it's nice to hear people doing something different from force fed radio patter!
