The first time, 3 months after I brought it, when I was on a trip to asia, the LCD broke without warning (cracked), since I was outside of the US, I had to pay for the repair on my own for over $600 to replace the LCD. Now it broke again. This time, the computer will be freezen whenever I move the computer. I reformat the disk and install the system several time, no help. I had a Vaio SK notebook for over 4 years, it is still worked very well, heavily used, not easy to break at all.  But this VGN-140P is so easy to break, I like the size, but I don't like the quality and the reliability. I have 3 notebooks all of them are sony, but not anymore, I am going to get a new one, not SONY for sure. Maybe Panasonic Roughbook should be better than Vaio.

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">My little Baby!</FONT>.......2006-02-21</p>I have had my little VAIO for over a year and I love it.  It is light, small and super portable.  The built in router works great.  The screen is very bright. And, the battery life, Wow!  I have used many other laptops that I rarely even unplugged because the battery never lasted to do anything.  But, Sony seems to know that and these lovely VAIO's can roam free without there cords for longer than you will probably need.  The DVD buttons above the keyboard turn it from a great laptop to an easy very portable DVD player.
<br/>Comes with plenty of ports (USB, Ethernet, etc.)
<br/>Some people may not like the fact that Sony is partial to their own stuff and only has their memory stick drive and doesn't include the standard one.  I haven't found it a problem cause I have other sony products with their sticks.  But, I am sure some may only have the standard ones and prefer that option.
<br/>Overall I think it is a great laptop and I highly recommend it!  It was just what I was looking for.  I hope anyone who decides to get one loves it as much as I love mine!

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">Very Fragile - Broke the LCD twice just in bag</FONT>.......2005-12-13</p>I would say this laptop looked good and felt good, was very light and all... but it is very fragile. there is no lcd cover lock and if anything gets in between while in bag etc .. like a pen it will break the lcd. also the lcd cover is very thin, fragile and u can bend it and break the lcd even if u press it a little on the top.

<br/>The lcd broke in by bag( dont know how - may be something came in between due to no lock, or just pressurre from something). i had to get it repaired from sony for $800 ( had to do it, no other choice, cant thorw a $2000 laptop.

We've seen The Greatest Opera Show on Earth, The Yellow Guide: Classical Music, Best of the Millennium, and now there's The No. 1 Opera Album. But that's no surprise, since Universal has some of the finest interpreters in its catalogue to draw from. This two-CD set (at the price of one), for example, brings together the likes of Cecilia Bartoli, Ren&eacute;e Fleming, Luciano Pavarotti, Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Georg Solti, Herbert von Karajan, and many more. Yet the other key to a successful compilation is canny anthologizing, and here again, you have a nice selection to give you a smattering of opera's heavyweights from the Italian, German, and French repertory (there's even a step outside the standard framework with an aria from Dvor&aacute;k's lovely Rusalka). You can close your eyes and feel like you're actually at the opera, listening to those beautiful voices bringing tears to your eyes. Nessun Dorma still stirs up emotions in me, no matter how many times I hear it. Great examples of opera to give someone wanting to get interested in this style of music.

e shortened versions work in the context of the album. Most essentially, the shortened versions on the discs still convey the main flavor the composers were going for. The melodies and themes remain unchanged.

<br />To sum up, it is true that when i want to actually listen deeply to classical music, this album would never be a choice. I would want to hear the complete works like the composers intended. But at certain times when i simply don't mind about that stuff, when i just need to loosen up and free my mind of stress with some nice melodies, this set does the job well enough.
<br />
<br />Last but not least: being a purist and a classical buff, i am very particular about performance quality. I was very glad to find that EMI did not get lazy about this. All the artists are world-class, and all the performances are at least exceptional. Some performances are even quite excellent, like the Clair De Lune, which is one of the best i've heard. (Credit to Dame Lympany, the pianist.)

<br />So once again, recommended for its stated purpose, to relax. I am a purist, a classical buff, and i still enjoy this disc. That says something.

I have all of the songs contained on these two albums but they are scattered through at least a dozen different albums and several are not performed by artists such as those that recorded this album and Volume 2.

I generally am not into clasical music, but this is fun. His working fingers convince me that they are not working. They are dancing, and they are having great fun. WONDERFUL!!

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange"> Music to my ears!</FONT>.......2007-04-04</p>I bought this CD as a "treat" for my 16 year old son, who has just finished a homeschool music course for one of his electives.  The last part of the course required listening to music from all the great composers, Baroque through contemporary periods, and identifying the more famous pieces by name and composer.  He not only enjoyed the course, he now actually listens to this CD for his own enjoyment (when he's not playing 80's rock).  What more could a mother ask for? (I'll tell you.  I ask him to borrow it, it's lovely.)

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">Legend!</FONT>.......2006-10-11</p>This is the greatest compilation of recordings ever made by the legendary pianist Van Cliburn. Although I am a cellist, I wear this cd out on a regular basis both at the office and home. I actually have an extra copy to play at the office. All of these recordings are superb in sound quality, performance and incredibly inspiring. The Schumann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Liszt pieces are stellar and my personal favorites. I only wish there were dvd's with Cliburn's performances for those of us too young to have seen him perform live. CD is a must-have for any classical music lover's collection.

<br />Andrea Bocelli has a very gorgeous voice that is a gift from above. His voice is not affected or braggadoccio but naturally magnificent. I could and do start my day listening to this spiritually uplifting CD almost everyday. It is a wonderful way to get off to a pleasant peaceful start, but also a nice way to come home in the evening if you have a CD player in your car. I highly recommend it to all.

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">An "experience" of sacred arias more than "listening" of sacred arias</FONT>.......2006-04-28</p>I bought this CD's special edition with DVD, and I am impressed by bocelli's singing in this album. I have heard many voices singing sacred songs, and christmas songs, but very few singers can achieve the "sacred atmosphere" that bocelli devotes when he sings. He may not have a "strong" voice as opera singers, but I think singing these sacred songs, devoting the "sacred atmosphere" to the audience is much more important, the voice actually is just a tool that helps a singer to achieve the result. For real, I have heard some CD by some chorus that perform sacred arias, but they did not move me as much as this CD does, mostly not even close. Personally I like "O come all ye faithful", "silent night", all "ave maria"'s, "domine deus", "cujus animam" the most. When I listen Bocelli's singing I focus on what he tries to devote in singing more than his voice color, because in terms of voice color he surely cant be compared with pavarotti or domingo, so why compares? The way of listening him and listening real opera singers is different man. But the reason I gave only this CD four stars is that I have heard several sacred arias from this album performed by his voice teacher, the legendary tenor Franco Corelli. I tried not to compare both...but I cant, not because Bocelli sings bad, he is already excellent, just Corelli is TOO excellent that cant be described by human language (well I think even Pavarotti is not even close to Franco Corelli, but this is just my opinion). Anyway if you want to "experience" the true beauty of sacred arias, this CD is highly recommended. And this is also a very good sacred aria album for beginning listeners who want to broaden their musical taste to sacred arias.

<br />I have noticed one concern with the CD. I have heard several clicks scattered here and there in the songs -- but the CD is clean and I feel confident it is not the machine. Has anyone else noticed this?

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">Great collection of Scott Joplin's piano rags</FONT>.......2007-08-02</p>John Arpin delivers excellent performances of Joplin's rags. Not too much interpretation and not a flat presentation exhibited by piano rolls. Perfect for me. I believe Arpin has truly captured Joplin's essence.

The songs carry a consistent sound and are played very close to as-written, which comes and goes with old ragtime pieces. The stamping on Stop-Time Rag doesn't have a consistent sound to it, can be a little distracting. Everything else is great, overall I think that it's a great buy, I'm very happy with it.

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">Another Performer Rewrites Joplin's Masterpieces</FONT>.......2007-05-31</p>Once again, another performer feels the need to rewrite the music of the King of Ragtime.  Scott Joplin spins in his grave each and every time this recording is played.  
<br />
<br />Again, to those who believe that concert music is meant to be rewritten by each and every performer I ask, is the same treatment also acceptable for Chopin's and Rachmaninoff's music?  Would "Moonlight Sonata" sound better if played at twice the tempo and with a reprise of the first Adagio movement thrown in at the end?  Obviously, the answer to these questions is a resounding NO!, so why does one of America's greatest composers get such disrespect?  
<br />
<br />Interpretation is an integral part of every performance.  Adding one's own notes, phrases and chords where none should be is not.  Randomly changing the structure of the piece is not.  Playing a piece at twice the indicated tempo is not.  
<br />
<br />One the plus side, the depth of this collection is outstanding.  Joplin's lesser known pieces like "Harmony Club Waltz" really shine.  The recording is decent in quality, although a bit bassy in places.
<br />
<br />While its been stated before, I feel its worth repeating:  Buy Joshua Rifkin's performances of Joplin in order to hear how the Master intended his pieces to sound.

As a lover of ragtime which was a prelude to jazz, I am thoroughly enjoying this collection. If you are not a lover of jazz, you may be a lover of ragtime. Jazz can sometimes be grating on the nerves, whereas ragtime lifts the spirit.

I was surprised it was from the US beacause it has  captured the very soul of Italy. After 7 years it has remained my favorite  of all Puccini cds I own. I especially like the fact that it is instumental  and can be played for many occassions. It never fails to stir the  wanderlust for a trip back to Italy! A must for every romantic!

This CD introduced some Italian music to me that I was not familiar with.  I listen to this music very often...it is almost theraputic in effect. I have never heard more beautiful music  together on one CD. You won't regret getting this one!

It's fast and expandable, as both a voice activated phone and a MP3 player, movie player, camera, for GPS directions, etc.  Buy it and buy all the wonderful accessories for it.  With Sprint's fast and cheap data plan you can surf at high speeds and have any ringer you want!

I don't know what I was thinking trying to buy 40 classical songs on two CD's.  If you really want to enjoy the music you would do better to purchase a CD with fewer, but better quality tracks.

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">A must for anyone wanting the staples of classical music</FONT>.......2005-02-23</p>In my years of experience teaching Fine Arts to high school students, I know that the majority, if not all, of the music included on this album is commonly used in collge music appreciation courses.  This is an excellent sample of truly all the "greatest hits" of classical music.  My students enjoy listening to the music and have later told me when take their required music apreciation courses in college that they "already know it all" because of this CD! The recordings are clear, the selections are passionate, and the listener will gain a familiarity with all of the most commonly heard classical music used in tv commercials, movies, etc.  
<br />I recommend this album, along with the boxed set, "Age of the Classics" for anyone who is interested in becoming familiar with the most famous staples of classical music.

It is a great starter for a beginning classical music lover or a quick and easy all-in-one for those of us who study classical music for a living. I highly recommend this cd to anyone who wants to love or already does love classical music.

At first I thought it was my DVD burner so I bought a new one, same problem. I also used a USB DVD burner, same problem. I tried burning at the lowest setting, same problem. Used a different brand of media - PROBLEM SOLVED!

<br/>It was hard to figure out they were bad because they had bad sectors on them. So a lot of the data would make it through, but in larger files, it corupts the whole file and you're screwed. I used the "verify data" setting on my burning software before I finally figured out DVDs were coming out bad.

<FONT SIZE="4" COLOR="orange">Write Protect; Write Lock Switch</FONT>.......2007-05-30</p>This is a great product.  I have the 1GB and will be getting the 2 or 4GB one soon.  I love the swivel feature - I've lost caps to other drives before - and the USB 2.0 speed is decent as well.  The drive works well with every OS I've tried: several Linux 2.4/2.6 distros (Gentoo, RH, Debian, and Slack based), Mac OSX, Sun Solaris, and yes, even Windows.
<br/>
<br/>The clip-on mini lanyard (about 5cm long) is strong and easy to snap on and off for quick use.  It uses a miniature version of the plastic clips seen on backpacks and sporting equipment.  One end has a loop to put on a lanyard or keyring.   Just squeeze the sides and two pieces separate easily from one another.  Push the pieces back together, and there is a satisfying 'snap' letting you know this thing isn't going anywhere.
<br/>
<br/>But the major selling point of this product line for me is the WRITE PROTECT SWITCH.  It seems I cannot find any other brand of USB flash drive with this feature.  I have a necessity for this; it is absolutely required on some systems I manage.  For those in search of info on the WRITE PROTECT feature of flash drives, here is a mini-breakdown for Imation (3M) flash drives that have this feature:

<br/>original 'Swivel' line: has write protect
<br/>'Clip' line: has write protect
<br/>'Pivot' line: has write protect
<br/>
<br/>'Swivel Pro' line: does NOT have write protect (who knows why they removed it?)
<br/>'Pocket' line: does NOT have write protect
<br/>'Mini' line: does NOT have write protect
<br/>'Flash Wristband' line: does NOT have write protect
<br/>
<br/>I know that a small USB Memory Stick reader and memory stick (all m/s have integrated write-protect switches) would give the same benefit, but options I have seen are just too clunky and would be a bear to carry around, e.g. especially on a lanyard.  This solution would also mean I would have to worry about the memory stick coming out of the reader during transport, and falling/hiding/going who-knows-where.
<br/>
<br/>The only cons I can think of for this product are:
<br/>- That lint seems to get into the swivel mechanism, and is not easy to get out - they use some sort of grease in the pivot to keep it moving freely, even though the outside shell and pivot piece are plastic, not metal.
<br/>- The silvery 'covers' over the pivot/swivel pin come off after a few days' use.  This does not affect operation of the drive or the pivot, IMHO just a minor cosmetic flaw.  I suppose you could re-attach it/them with superglue, but I have not tried.
<br/>- It is not more available in larger capacities.  Few vendors are selling the 4GB version at this time (June '07), probably due to cost.  Imation's website states that they have an 8GB version, but I haven't seen it for sale anywhere yet.
