About the Artist
A great believer in embracing technological advancements, Caballero says, "In the future, I foresee that artists will jointly create pieces through seamless collaboration between different art sources in which sounds, light and space will co-exist, interact and change dynamically."

David Caballero (aka GNOMUSY) began playing keyboards at age seven and composing music at age ten, he says, as a way to express himself and his perception of reality. After several years of piano studies at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid (Spain), David explored other styles such as Andinian, Jazz, Ragtime, Bluegrass, Folk and Celtic music. This gave him the opportunity to develop a mosaic of influences and to discover the mysteries of the various instruments he practiced including piano, keyboards, guitar, mandolin, banjo and the flute.

While his state-of-the-art studio provides great enjoyment, the fantasy world and nature are never far from Cabellero's thoughts. He majored in Forestry Engineering at the Polytechnical University of Madrid, and has dedicated his professional life to the study of forest fires. Besides composing, he is a scientist who researches forest fire and information systems projects such as EUFIRELAB, co-funded by the European Commission.

In 1993, David began composing and sequencing synthesizers using computers and the MIDI protocol. Soon, he discovered that this approach gave a new dimension to his compositions. Using his Korg X3 keyboard, David wrote pieces like "Altair" (1995), "Virtuality" (1994) and "Camelot" (1997). These works, Caballero says, provided a preview of what later would become his particular style. The songs portray fantasy worlds, which are full of characters and landscapes, exciting to the senses, with nods to mythology and ancient cultures, and, always, with a deep emotional component.

In 1999, under the name of GNOMUSY (Gnome of Music), Caballero published the tracks "Alexandra" (1998) and "Dolmen Ridge" (1999) on the widely-known mp3.com music portal with noticeable success, rocketing to the TOP 40 charts and heading the New Age list several times. Further compositions, such as "Dance of the Mist" (1999), "Birth of Blodeuwedd" (2000) and "Echoes from Rivendell" (2002), received similar acceptance as their predecessors, spreading awareness of his music world-wide, accounting for more than two million downloads and several thousand mp3 albums sold. This initial Internet success provided extra income to Caballero, who re-invested it in extending and improving his home studio in Madrid. After years of publishing on the Internet, Caballero is bringing a collection of his works together in his new album "Ethereality," which was released in early 2005 by Jorge Grundman's Non Profit Music label in Spain and by Only New Age Music in the USA.

Caballero credits Grundman - who also mastered the album -- with "hooking him" on the idea of non profit music, in which all profits from the album sales are donated to non-profit organizations. At this time, Doctors Without Borders is the donation recipient of choice for "Ethereality."

Non Profit Music (NPM), a privately owned record label, was born with the vision of helping people through humanitarian programs using the music sales of new emerging artists in the New Age and Contemporary Instrumental genres. Non Profit Music started in the Nineties when several indie music portals, such as mp3.com, provided many artists the opportunity of sharing their music while obtaining revenues from their digital downloads. As part of a personal self-commitment to humanitarian causes, one of these artists, Jorge Grundman, donated all proceeds obtained from royalties for music downloads on mp3.com to Doctors Without Borders (DWB) in Spain. After a resounding success on the Internet, Grundman decided in 2002 to create the Non Profit Music record label to officially launch his artistic career by releasing his first album We are the forthcoming past, take care of it. He also donated all profits from the sales of his album to DWB and opened new horizons to artists with similar interests. Non Profit Music artists have had continuous success online since the creation of the label. They have appeared on many mainstream TV shows, on radio and in press interviews in Spain and also internationally in Europe, Japan and, with the help of Only New Age Music, in the USA. NPM has been featured on many panels in Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) to present and explain the NPM philosophy and achievements with the support of the Spanish retail chain FNAC Music Superstores. In 2005, Non Profit Music signed an agreement of collaboration with Doctors Without Borders in Spain, and NPM made a formal donation to DWB. In addition, several humanitarian promotional activities were established including the permission to use the DWB logo on the NPM products packaging and the production of ongoing benefit concerts. Non Profit Music also has created the NPM Foundation, with a broader scope in its aim of music promotion and humanitarian help. Thus, a number of solidarity concerts have taken place with renowned artists such as Ara Malikian; and, in addition, the NPM Chamber Orchestra has been formed. Their album, Tears of Beauty, was launched in 2006, as well as the audiobook Con Los Nueve Sentidos (With the Nine Senses). This compilation, eMotive, is a selection of the most representative works of Non Profit Music artists, including music from already released albums as well as new tracks from upcoming releases.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic tracks from the "Gnome of Music"..........2005-02-10

I heard all these tracks years ago for free on MP3.com, but the memories tugged at me to buy the CD so I could hear them again! Gnomusy weaves together some of the most fantastic, energizing melodies immersed in fantastic audio worlds.

My personal favorite is "Ballerina", which really DOES dance through a face-paced, music-box waltz followed-up by piano and various orchestral instrumentation.

The CD also includes 128 kbps MP3s for the ripping/encoding impaired (so you can put them straight onto your MP3 player), and some really nice nature photos. Don't pass this up: I already got number "0741"! (Each CD booklet is individually numbered and autographed!)

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely magic.......2004-09-23

Ever since a friend told me about GNOMUSY, I have been absolutely stunned by the music. It's not like other music that loses its magic after a while, it still gives me amazing feelings throughout my body when I listen to it today, a few years after my first encounter with it.
It helps me in meditative and other similar activities, to remain focused and keeping my mind where I want it.
It feels like it opens doors for me, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to get completely engulfed by music.
Buying this was one of the best deals I've done in my life, and it feels very good that sales also support a good cause (Doctors Without Borders in Spain).
If you like GNOMUSY, get this album before it's too late!

5 out of 5 stars Pure Magic.......2004-08-22

Never has a work of music inspired me to write a review or recommendation. I don't even remember how I chanced upon Gnomusy back on the old MP3.com and now at Soundclicks, but I am glad I did. I collected all of the tracks that he made available for download as MP3's and I had always hoped for a chance to get them in full CD quality.

Now that chance if finally here. The tracks on this CD are among the most powerful pieces of music that I have ever heard. I expect this CD to melt in my player from the number of times this CD will cycle.

You will not be dissapointed. This is music worth paying for!
