Troika is ostensibly a trio of musicians who choose to remain anonymous, but the compositions are credited to David Arkenstone, and a quick listen to the sound design reveals this is none other than David Arkenstone himself, working under a pseudonym. Earlier Troika releases mirrored Arkenstone's penchant for overblown synthesizer orchestrations, so it's no coincidence that Troika's latest reveals the native rhythms and flutes that Arkenstone is currently exploring under still another alias, Animá. Like that group, Troika serves up tribal-trance grooves with flute melodies, tuned percussion samples, and a swirl of synthesizer ambiences. Arkenstone's penchant for heroic, cinematic synthesizer strings assures that his version of trance won't be found on a dance floor, yet tracks such as "Crossing the Light" explore a more contemporary vocabulary with metallic sequences laid against a tribal percussion groove. Arkenstone still has a predilection for the obvious, including the "Indian" drumbeats and chants, Gregorian and native. But Troika's faux exotica has its charms, including sweeping melodies and seductive rhythms. With Animá and Troika, David Arkenstone is doing his best music in years. If only he'd put it out under his own name. --John Diliberto

How could Carlos Santana hope to follow the massive comeback album Supernatural? The solution he settled upon was to once again pull in as many guest artists as possible. Shaman features a slew of stars, but, despite their presence, the instrumental "Victory Is Won" is the standout track here, as Santana blazes through an exhibition of his patented fusion of Latin and rock. In contrast, the sugary pop single "The Game of Love," sung by Michelle Branch, illustrates the lack of consistency that mars the album. Only Ozomatli and Macy Gray seem to totally get Santana. That said, his cover of Angelique Kidjo's "Adouma" is storming, and Santana stands strong when he ventures into world-music territory ("Foo Foo," "Aye, Aye"). However, if the celebrated guitarist had concentrated a little more on who he is and not on who he believes people would like him to be, he'd have made a better album. --Jake Barnes

Santana always excellent.......2007-06-16
This cd has a lot of good songs with the proffesional touch that santana knows perfectly. One review says that the latin song Foo Foo is too long. I can tell this person does not know anything about latin music because salsa's songs used to be really long in '70. Therefore, Foo Foo is an excellent production.
Shaman- Another Santana Smash.......2007-05-17
I have been a Santana fan for many years going back to the 60's and Carlos has never failed to come through on every album he has made, and Shaman is no exception. His Latin rhythms are evident in just about every song, no matter who the featured artist is. This is recommended for anybody who appreciates the greatest guitarist of all time.
Keep Santana away from the superstars.......2007-04-28
So Supernatural turned Clive Davis from rich to filthy rich. He made a point of churning out a sequel, Shaman, which made him even richer thanks to hits like "The Game of Love", sung by Michelle Branch (who may be the worst female singer I've ever heard - her voice cracks more than mine does. Thankfully, Carlos saves the song from being a horrendous disaster with his guitar), the Latin-sung "Foo Foo", which is actually great (a rarity for this album), if a bit too long, and "Why Don't You and I", which swaps the Nickelback guy in for the Matchbox-20 guy and uses crunchy guitars instead of horns but other than that could easily be mistaken for "Smooth". And there's a fun Latin dance song, "Aye, Aye, Aye". But if they expect me to sit through a bunch of unoriginal rockers like "You Are My Kind", "Nothing at All", "Victory is Won" and "America", a bunch of really dull ballads like "Novus", "Hoy Es Adios", "Sideways" and the Dido-sung "Feels Like Fire", and a couple of raps with the most boring bedroom lyrics I can imagine ("Amore (Sexo)", "Let Me Love You Tonight"), they must think I'm stupid or something. And then Santana just sits back and lets it happen, because he's playing a painful practical joke on all of us, trying to fool us into thinking that just because it's Santana automatically means it's good. No, Carlos, we're not that stupid. Your fans are educated (or at least in the process of being educated) people. Think of it like this, man: your fans who have lost their respect for you after hearing the newer stuff will regain it if you get back with the Woodstock band, put out some old-school Latin-blues-rock, and tell Clive Davis to go do himself. Oh, and if Carlos ever collaborates with Noel Gallagher, I'll have to kick him.
awesome!.......2007-01-01
THIS CD IS FANTASTIC! IT IS BETTER THAN "SUPERNATURAL". DEFINATELY WORTH BUYING & LISTENING TO FOREVER.
Much Better Than Supernatural.......2006-12-12
I am not a fan of the Santana collaborations but own both Supernatural and Shaman (hey, I wanted to give them both a shot). What I really hated about Supernatural was the way the guest artists seemed to be using the Santana name to push themselves. But on Shaman there seems to be a little bit less of that approach and a little more emphasis on the music (not much though).
I believe 'Game of Love' is one of the best songs on either release and would have been a standout single at any time in history. The rest of the cd flows well enough and isn't a complete disaster.
That said, this is still not the Santana that millions of fans grew up loving. Pick up one of his first 3 cds and you'll see what I mean.

Beautiful album.......2007-03-08
i was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful songs and they are not stereotypical native american musc as on reviewer suggested. my toddler chills to the album before he goes to bed.
Uninteresting.......2007-01-07
Like another reviewer stated, it sounds corny and fake. I must agree. Some of it is ok, but it sounds like commercialized North American Indian music, which I suppose it is.
Good, but Lisa Gerrard repeats herself.......2006-05-19
Dead Can Dance's former singer, Lisa Gerrard, sounds good (like she always does) on this album, yet she repeats herself, coming accross a LOT like she did in "Whale Rider". The oceanic-like quality to her music plays a central role in this soundtrack, and makes me a bit doubtful about future efforts, unless she begins to experiment a little more, like she did in her DCD days.
very relaxing.......2006-02-24
i heard two cuts from this album on a recent 'music from the hearts of space' broadcast last december. needless to say, lisa gerrard's vocals, and here combined with various indigenous north american arrangements, are stellar. i recommend this for those who are looking for ambient sounds to wind the day down. a subtle, powerful, modern collection of soundtrack compositions that is rooted in tradition. quite nice and i do plan on catching the short film next time i'm in DC.
Corny, fake sounding Native American music.......2005-12-17
I am a soundtrack fan, love a good soundtrack, and found this to be incoherent...the music sounded stereotypical and unoriginal. I love Lisa Gerard's contributions to the Gladiator soundtrack but here, her voice is lost in the music. I find this cd to be kind of irritating to listen to, rather than beautiful. I'm trading it in at the local used cd store asap.

Eleven years in the making?.......2007-07-22
Earlier this year, I read a press release saying that Wise Intelligent would be releasing an album and I did a double-take. Wise Intelligent was a rapper I loved in the 90s, and he inexplicably disappeared from the music in 1996. As a member of Poor Righteous Teachers, who put together four incredible albums during the first half of the nineties, and on his 1996 solo album Killin' U for Fun, the Trenton, New Jersey rapper established himself as one of hip hop's best talents; an excellent lyricst, socially relevant and conscious, and entertaining. Wise rapped with a purpose and conviction to rival Chuck D, and every verse and lyric had a purpose of social activism or relevance if not strictly for a party. PRT was also a really enticing group for the way they incorporated reggae into their brand of hip hop, and Wise especially did this by often using the flow of a dancehall toaster in his raps. Knowing all this, I was naturally very interested to see how "The Talented Timothy Taylor" would sound eleven years after his last release. This album comes out on Shaman Works Records, the same indie label who released CL Smooth's comeback last fall, and apparently this album is meant to be the first of a series.
Bringing home the cover showing a thugged-out Wise Intelligent and a scantily-clad lady, I had a few qualms, but the old addage about not judging a book by its cover holds true. After only a few listens, Wise had me sold once again. He sounds exactly like the same rapper I loved in Poor Righteous Teachers. The social activism here is awesome. He advocates for issues like the best did in the early 90s, but everything he raps about is totally relevant today. He raps about problems surrounding racism, drug wars, urban youth, and poverty. His verses are all very well-thought out, clever, and thought-provoking. My favorite tracks are a handful where he becomes personal, digging into his own life and offering some emotional insight on what he's been through. He frequently brings out the dancehall-toaster in him, which pleased me as well. I was extremely impressed with Wise Intelligent's performance on "The Talented Timothy Taylor," which was inspired throughout.
I also really liked the production. Wise could have gone a few routes with the music. I thought he could have sounded dated using his comfortable 90s-style production, or sound a little awkward over contemporary beats. The beats here are very current-sounding, but he sounds great over them. A few tracks bear the nostalgic soulful sound of a Kanye West production, complete with sped-up whiny vocal samples. There are a few bangers like he always brought out in his heyday, and some more subtle, understated ones too. The instrumentals are very nice. At 23 tracks, there are numerous skits, which tend to be vocal pieces of people going through struggles and despair, which Wise elaborates upon in the following songs.
The album opens with the beautiful piano solo and vocal sample of "Another Chance at Life," a perfect opener. Wise raps about his return, and also provides insight upon the breakup of PRT, the death of his sister, and his hopes for the future. The more upbeat "I'm Him" announces his comeback again, in a confident fashion. The only track I really didn't like was "Sensi Party." Wise's verses are okay, but the weak hook and beat fall flat for a club track. The nostalgic, soulful "Go With Me" has some nice verses, and the very Jamaican-influenced "Youth & Thugs" brings the conscious rap to the forefront, addressing problems for inner-city youths over some rough production. "A Genocide" elaborates similarly, talking about what young, poor black males face daily. I really like "Ganja Smugglin," a great first-person narrative about a high-profile drug trade involving a man and his girlfriend. I like how he just makes this entertaining, but also subliminally puts some consciousness there too, and the beat is nice, with a reggae-styled hook. "Police Can Do" is solid, and my favorite song is definitely "Passing Tha Time." The beat on this song is perfect, a pumped-up, horn-laden soul track with a gorgeous vocal sample. Wise Intelligent's raps are inspiring, he speaks lovingly to a lifetime friend from behind bars. The racially-fueled "Still Black" and heavily-conscious "Mama Cry" both bring the relevance that hip hop severely lacks right now, over nice beats nonetheless that might bring back memories of Black Business and New World Order. The rock guitar-laced "Summer in the JECTS" profiles a day in the housing projects. I like how he just provides simple commentary, giving pure facts and leaving the listener to think of solutions. One of the best highlights is the short "Barnes & Noble (+Lesson)," a very clever and funny track. "This Is Love" is a decent love track, it's a little slow and drags a bit. "Intelligent Wise" is fast, pure, and fun, and "Set U Free" is well-produced and well-written. The album closes with the thought-provoking "Cold World," which talks about current ills of society.
If you really love hip hop, this is the type of album I hope you'd support. We have here a legendary vet making an unlikely comeback that is not likely to move many copies, and he brings a great performance with unrivaled talent. But most importantly, he's making good music with a positive message. This type of social activism and relevant music is certainly lacking in hip hop right now, and this is refreshing for so many reasons. It feels really good to listen and rave about an album by Wise Intelligent once again. I highly recommend "The Talented Timothy Taylor." Old fans will love hearing his unique voice once again, and new listeners will find him easily accessible.
Wisdom Still Intact {4 Stars}.......2007-07-19
Wise Intelligent is mostly known for being the front man for the Trenton, NJ group Poor Righteous Teachers. While that trio produced a string of classic releases, very few paid any attention to Wise when he went for self. On his third release, Wise drops knowledge again. What to expect is pretty much cut and dry if you've been a fan for a while and he doesn't disappoint. Joints like "Go With Me" and "I'm Him" are the standouts in my mind. There are also solid tracks like "G*nja Smugglin", "This Is Love", and "A Genocide" to be found throughout the album. My biggest fear was that he'd come across as washed up. A lot of my favorite rappers from the past are attempting comebacks and aren't doing so hot. Wise is the exception. He sounds as if he never took a break and he's still as sharp as ever, so there's no need to even worry about that.
There are a handful of tracks that fell under skip material for this listener. "Sensi Party" has a good theme, but it lacked a decent hook and somewhat uninteresting production. The same could be said about "Youths & Thugs". There aren't any wack tracks and the message that Wise has made a career out of spreading remains in tact. The problem for me is when some beats and rhymes don't mesh all that well. Otherwise, things are great. I'd have to say that out of 18 tracks (5 of the 23 are skits/interludes) at least 13 are worth checking out.
I can't speak for other listeners, but I was a little worried that Wise would trade in his razor sharp flow for something a little more contemporary and up to date (a lot of my old favorites that are making comebacks have done just that). Fear not, the flow is still in tact. Despite come dangerously close to crossing the line (even if only on one or two songs), he never actually crosses it. Whether you were a fan of Poor Righteous Teachers back in the 90's or even if this is your first time ever hearing him rhyme, I'm willing to bet that you'll end up loving it. I recommend adding this album to your music library.

Album Description
Enter a Sacred Dream - This soothing-trance music invites you to remember your own inner peace. Award-winning artists David and Steve Gordon (Sacred Earth Drums, Drum Medicine) combine the Tribal drums and reverent Native Flute melodies they are renowned for with relaxing atmospheres, ancient Shaman chants (Lakota, Tibetan, Aboriginal and Mayan) guitars, sounds of nature and the healing resonance of Crystal Bowls. The album consists of four serenely hypnotic 20-minute movements that correspond to the Native-American four directions and the four sections or worlds that make up a Shamanic Journey. This peaceful soundscape will nourish your Massage, Meditation and Yoga as well as being the perfect music for starting your day or unwinding at night.
Billboard-charting artists David & Steve Gordon (Sacred Earth Drums, Drum Medicine) have sold over 1.3 million albums. This is the Gordons' first full-length collaboration since Drum Medicine, which won Visionary Record of the Year and Best World Album.
"Primal rhythms and Native Flutes once again intertwine in the percussive panoramas of David and Steve Gordon. Past releases from the Gordons, like SACRED EARTH DRUMS and DRUM MEDICINE, have proven their mastery of shamanic sounds in a healing setting and became top sellers in the genre. SHAMAN'S VISION JOURNEY takes things one step further with the introduction of some fascinating instrumentation choices. Crystal bowls, uncommon for a World percussive album, are used with great effect in the music, adding a mystical glow to it. Subtle ancient chants (Tibetan, Sanskrit, Aboriginal, Mayan & Lakota) and Indian drone instruments provide additional Eastern influence in the music, and make an intuitive counterpoint to the haunting Native American flute. The most striking thing about the album is the rhythms, which are rich, earthy and invigorating. " ~ Music Design In Review

Shaman's Vision Journey - Meditative!.......2007-02-04
I'm a massage therapist and used this CD for 2 weeks without tiring of it.(I didn't play any other) I also use it for meditation, it's perfect. I really love this CD. I have 3 other discs of the Gordon brothers and this is by far my favorite.
A Sacred Mood Unfolds.......2006-05-16
I have the Gordons other native/world albums like Sacred Earth Drums, Drum Medicine and Drum Prayer. This one is just as gorgeous as those but it has longer songs which creates more of a peaceful trance soundscape. I use it for yoga and relaxing at the end of the day. The Gordons are absolutely the finest world fusion artists. Highest Recommendation!
The Gordon's Go Deep into Shamanic Trance.......2006-05-13
As a long time healer and practitioner of cross-cultural shamanism I must say that I am once again incredibly impressed with this latest release from David & Steve Gordon. This is their first all new release in over 6 years, since their profoundly inspirational "Drum Medicine" was released in 1999. And this title clearly shows the Gordon's have been hard at work, delving deeply into the fertile realms of the subconscious in order to unearth the Great Spirit that lies within. They have created a uniquely indelible synthesis of the Shamanic experience through the four worlds of the Native American cultures; within these four distinct tracks that penetrate into an entrancing exploration of these inner realms. Yet this is no mere Native American release; this is pure musical alchemy - deftly blending music and voices of indigenous shamanic cultures from around the globe. The Brothers skillfully bring together tribal drums, native flutes, crystal bowls and other instruments and rhythms from around the world with anceint Lakota, Aboriginal, Buddhist, Mayan and Sanskrit chants. The result is a soothing, trance inducing mix in four 18 minute movements that have to be heard and experienced to be fully appreciated. This title is great for meditation, healing and inner visioning work. Put your headphones on and slip blissfully into other worlds.

Shaman's Breath.......2007-07-28
Shaman's Breath CD is an exceptional selection of tribal beats designed to help people to expand their awareness thru transic dance and breathing. I find the music most beneficial for a number of my clients (certified massage therapist) as the energies found in the beat help with some of the more ancient beliefs involving energy healing.

Great Trance and Meditation Mix.......2005-02-09
From beginning to end, the album is great for moving meditations, straight dancing or even just giving you a rhythm to clean the house to.
As a whole the album is a journey in itself, starting your heartrate out easy and building it up, making you breathe and sweat and then gently rocking you back down.
Highly recommended
Defines Tribal Music.......2004-12-20
This CD, without a doubt, is the best of the best in the Tribal genre. The music literally MOVES you--I dare you to try and stand still! Unfortunately, nothing Natale has done since compares with the power and genius displayed on this album. Words like classic, timeless, genius, etc., just don't do the music justice. It will never go out of style! I will be playing it FOREVER! It's great for dancing your ass off, releasing stagnant energy and blockages, and for jump-starting your life.

Drums & Didgeridoo & Synthesizers.......2004-08-15
The first song is my least favorite as it reminds me too much of the Trance Ambient music of the 90's. The remainder of the songs are great fun. I'm a fan of Didgeridoo music and there are several selections with just drums and didge. I love the way that interesting percussion instruments are layered into the songs--different bells, symbols, gongs, wooden blocks, shamen drums. The percussion is driving but not boring or monotonous. There are New Age sounding pieces with beautiful melodies and world music with exotic instruments. This is the best CD I've bought recently.

Drum Prayer is out of this world !.......2002-12-26
Wow ! This new release from Steve Gordon is really exceptional. I got it as a gift for the holidays and it just blew my mind. The orchestration and exotic insturments are amazing and the blend of vocals with chants from around the world really creates a trencendent sound. I've been blissed out for the past several hours and can't stop playing it. Spectacular and highly recommended !
Drum Prayer made me feel an akin-ship to the whole world........2002-11-13
I've never written a review before, but when I heard this album, I felt compelled to write my feelings down of what it invoked and share them with someone. I've hardly listened to much native sounding music, but this album is much more contemporary and it reached a place in me I didn't know I had. I just sat there and rocked with the rhythms. Drum Prayer made me feel an akin-ship to the whole of the world. I didn't know what the words meant when listening the first couple of times, I just got into the instrumentation and vocals., They were so joyful, so soothing and visionary that I was compelled to at last read the liner notes. The Sanskrit, Tibetan and Lakota chants added to the native drums, flute and guitar are so well woven together, I can't imagine how it could have been done any better. I have played this album countless times already and enjoy it every time. My favorite track is `Holding the Vision'. I highly recommend this album.
Drum Prayer is entrancing.......2002-11-05
I find this new release by Steve Gordon to be exquisite and perfect for massage, yoga, tantra and ecstatic dance. The blending of diverse instruments and sacred devotional chants are absolutely entrancing, making it exceptionally easy to slip deeply into an exhalted state of bliss. The vocals are particularly beautiful. I have really been a fan of Steve's previous work with both his brother David and Deborah Martin, and with the release of Drum Prayer I feel that he's really outdone himself. I absolutely love it.
Drum Prayer Gets High Praises.......2002-10-23
This new solo project release from Steve Gordon is exceptional. A real groundbreaking piece of work for the genre, combining a variety of nature sounds and indigenous instruments from around the world, with chants for world peace from several different cultures including Lakota, Sanskrit and Tibetian. This recording melds all of these apparently diverse cultural aspects and sounds together into a delightfully inspiring and unified mix of ancient shamanic rhythms and contemporary world-beat music. Gordon has assembled a virtual host of top artists for this release, including brother David on piano, vocalists Jaya Lakshmi (Lost at Last), Lakshami Devi and Laurie Lovecraft as well as percussionists Girish Gambhira and Kim Atkinson and the amazing Sarod playing of Wynne Paris, with Digeridoo provided by Peter Van Gorder and additional electric guitar and synthesizer tracks from Spotted Peccary Music's Howard Givens. Drum Payer is brilliantly uplifting while still remaining entrancingly relaxing allowing the listener to explore uncharted expanses of this new and vivid sonic realm. The vocals are sensational and incredibly serene. The CD has been playing in the background of my home office for the past several days and each new listen reveals something new and deeper in the mix. Truly an extraordinary work deserving of the highest praise. Drum Prayer is an absolute winner !
DRUM PRAYER - STEVE GORDON.......2002-10-14
"As a nature enthusiast, I enjoy relaxing outside, reading a good book and listening to "earthy" music that gives me inner peace. That music is DRUM PRAYER by Steve Gordon. This title is a blend of contemporary world beats and ancient sounds with a flavor of sacred chants. I love the jazz/spanish guitar, feathery flutes, native drums and the ambient dance grooves. This is a winner...a 5 Star!!!" Jeananne/Fullerton, CA

Album Description
When Los Angeles' Shaman's Dream gets ready to perform"live" or in the studioits members call upon the powers of nature to bring healing and positive transformation to their music. Like the shamans who take us into the spirit world to enlist the help of guides, animals, and nature, these prolific musicians use the same sounds, chants, and rhythms to take listeners on a musical pilgrimage to the mystical, primal heart of Africa. Here they serve up a delicious ethno-jammin' blend of chant, fusion, and deep groove for bodycentered movement, dance, or serious trans-dimensional drifting.
The album features Donna DeLory, Dido Tshibangu, Marcel Adjibi, Abdou Mbaya, and Masai village men and women from the Serengeti plains.
Together with Micheline Berry, founder, producer and facilitator of Zen Dancing, and numerous other musicians, Craig Kohland is co-creator of The Shaman's Dream World Groove Ensemble, where the melodic ambience has merged with explosive world percussion to create a dynamic platform for dancing and ecstatic movement.
Jason Hann is an accomplished percussionist/drummer and producer who has been playing professionally since age 12. Music has taken him around the world, studying first hand in countries such as Ghana, Haiti, and Korea, both learning and performing folkloric and contemporary music of the land. A dynamic performer, Jason has also toured and recorded internationally within many different genres of music including Rock, R&B, Pop, Jazz, Latin, Latin-Jazz, Flamenco, African, Persian, Electronica, Techno, and World music.

Musical Collage of African Experience.......2006-08-30
"Sabar drums are special. They are the royal drums of Senegal and are unique to the Senegambia region." ~A Wolof teacher
Shaman's Dream invites you into the world of nature sounds, primal chants, exotic rhythms and soul healing beats. African Dream is a fusion of African music and electronica with warm appeal.
Rakandao - Hearing the Wolof language of Senegal for the first time was a beautiful experience. Abdou Mbaye sings a blessing to his brother from the heart. I find it difficult to sit still while listening to this track, there is something very spiritual and healing about the way African music makes your body move. This track and track eight seem to especially inspire the body to move in unique ways.
Morani Warrior - A song about the rights of passage Masi boys go through when they enter manhood. Children laugh in the distance as men sing and seem to be controlling their breath in an interesting way. Sabar Drums (beautiful tall drum) and Bells appear on this track along with a Doun Doun, a double-ended wood bass drum.
Mbira Kosamdela - A song from Zaire that includes the fascinating delicate sounds of the Mbira, a thumb piano made with 22-28 metal keys mounted on wood from the mubvamaropa tree.
Losambo - The sounds of the sea appear with the beats of the Doun Doun creating an oceanic escape with waves washing through vocals by Dido Tshibangu and Donna DeLory. Together their voices create a spiritually reverent mood that is soft and sensual like the movement of the ocean on a calm day.
Je Je Vignin is a lullaby by the women in Benin Togo. It has a comforting and catchy beat with undercurrents of being soothed into sleep. The Okonkolo Cha is the smallest of the bata drums and produces high pitch tones. This song also features the Pandiero which looks like a drum top with brass jinglers like a tambourine.
Ker Kerane is especially soothing and I really love Abdou Mbaye's voice as he sings: "In the morning or in darkness there is always light." Djembe appears on this track and is a drum shaped like a large goblet with a distinctive sound created from playing with bare hands.
Naomba Ukuwe Muzuri is a blessing for Good health in Swahili, a language of East Africa. This track is filled with beautiful nature sounds, whistles, seed pods, raffia, congas, bells, egg shakers, a glass bell and a variety of drums. It is a richly layered song that takes you completely away from reality and into a world where you are listening for each new sound as it approaches. Perhaps you feel a bit like a hunter, searching for sounds.
Entomononi (means birth) stands out as one of the most beautiful tracks on this CD with mystical environments and bells from hundreds of goats being herded across the Masi Mara. This is a chant sung by women in a Masi village on the Serengeti plains of Kenya and it has a joyful exuberance and playful bounce amidst a purity of vocals. Of all the music on this CD, this feels especially spiritual in beauty and seems to have a soul-cooling energy that frees you from everyday contemplation. As if celebrating the magnificence of a new birth, the song feels like it is awakening to the world.
African Dreams is a collage of sound clips recorded during a trip to Africa in 1996. The song draws on your imaginative powers as you see what you are hearing and at times wonder what you are hearing. Lightening crashes across the sky as birds cry, flying against a darkening sky. You are no longer at home, you are in Africa walking along a beach while the sky pours down in tears, you are riding a horse through the veld and you are swimming in a river. Africa calls to you from her heart, to walk barefoot on her sun-drenched soul. I found myself smiling when I heard the lions and so homesick when I heard the rain.
