OM Yoga Mix

There are dozens of yoga CDs on the market, but the body benders at Dharma Moon Records might have a better line on it than most. Founder David Nichtern, who also wrote Maria Muldaur's hit "Midnight at the Oasis," is a Dean of Buddhist Studies, while his wife, Cyndi Lee, is an author and Director of New York City's Om Yoga Center. Lee sequenced Om Yoga Mix with previously released materiel from Dharma Moon Records as well as several new tracks. Mirroring the flow of a yoga session, Om Yoga Mix moves seamlessly from the floating spaces of Michael Hewett's e-bow guitar soliloquy on "Nagual" to more uptempo themes like Nichtern's "In Praise of...," featuring kirtan-style chanting. Nichtern's global fusion group Drala is represented by the energized new track "Moment to Moment" and the slo-mo trance of "Opening the Gates" from their debut CD. An English vocal track with singer Falguni, reveals Nichtern's melodic pop sensibilities filtered through Indian raga. While English vocals are rare in the yoga world, it works on Om Yoga Mix, which takes you on a journey whether you're in a yoga session or listening session. --John Diliberto

5 out of 5 stars Bakti Yoga Music.......2004-08-16

The music might not be the most ideal for an "asana" practice (depending on your style of practice), but this CD is great for an uplifting and positve listen. It is relaxing AND invigorating at the same time. This would make a great CD to listen to when you get sick of the negative pop stuff on the radio. It can also be a great listen for AFTER a yoga practice - as a reinforcing meditation. After all, yoga isn't about just the poses! Namaste

1 out of 5 stars This is awful.......2003-11-14

As individual songs, some of them have merit. As a compilation, OM Yoga Mix makes no sense. It is embarrassing that a Yoga teacher so poorly structured this album and that she missed the mark by such distance that it becomes unlistenable in any environment ...."Professional musicians" apparently review their own work to make it appear valid when infact it is not. Be weary of complimentary reviews that appear too good to be true!

1 out of 5 stars Some tracks ok, but misleading, not a very good yoga CD.......2003-09-13

Some tracks were flat out distracting for a yoga practice, there was no sense of flow or theme. Certainly not a yoga CD for a serious practitioner or yoga instructor. Very disappointed considering the previous reviews that I based by purchase on.

3 out of 5 stars Music is Good but sound Quality terrible.......2003-05-31

Love the Music, but the sound quality kinda kills it. It's still a good cd just not worth the price, plus when I am trying to relax and a bunch of distortion comes out of my speakers, it tends to disturb me out of my state of mind

5 out of 5 stars OM Yoga.......2003-05-02

As a musician, I highly recommend this groundbreaking, world fusion mix!
