    Album Description

This album is a re-release of Incendio's debut recording "Misterioso". The music of Incendio is not solely flamenco, classical, Middle-Eastern, Celtic, jazz, rock, trance or pop, but an amalgamation of all of the above. By showcasing the timeless sound of the Spanish guitar in a variety of settings, Incendio takes the listener on a global musical experience while continuing to break new ground.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing debut!.......2006-01-11

This band is amazing. Although some may lump these guys in with other "nuevo flamenco" artists, the astute listener will notice that this band is much more progessive than their counterparts. They use more complex harmonic structures in many of their compositions and they experiment with other music forms like Celtic, middle-eastern, and even trance.

    2 out of 5 stars Boring.......2007-04-07

Unengaged and unengaging, this is one of the dullest releases I've given an ear in quite some time. Truly muzak for the pipes and whistle crowd.

    5 out of 5 stars The best new-age music since Delerium's Karma.......2002-11-18

Dagda morph through one track to the next with their extravagent strings of celtic rythms. They combine flutes, windpipes and cathar music with modern beats and use fine female vocals to back their magic up. The cd starts with an eerie introduction which swithces to The Primal Gods and Celtic Trance, my favorite songs on the CD. They also use great support instruments like harps, guitars and pianos, and have a fantasy quality to their music which makes each track special and varied even though they are connected. I always enjoy it in the car or at home, or even when insomnia hits bad I just keep listening to this CD and it has a relaxing quality to it like no other new-age music. Genereally, Dagda hit their best (hopefully not their plateu) in this record, and they have an outstanding future in the new age genre.

    2 out of 5 stars Needs refining.......2002-09-15

Both Enigma and Delirium as well as others, have this particular formula down cold, Dagda however, need to do more work in this area. The same drum patterns throughout as well as a very overused and tired 'pan flute sampled' keyboard sound, make for a boring listening for me. Vocals should also be pushed back in the mix with this type of music, not to the front. I haven't heard any other releases by this band but this was not a good start.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent. NOT what I expected..........2002-08-27

Ok, right I thot this was gunna be something filled with songs in the style of Chicane's "Salt Water", but it's nothing like that at all. But instead of being disappointed this is actually a really kewl CD to play in the background when you're studying or have friends over. It's smooth and really nice. It doesn't have anything you can dance to, but it's really nice to veg to.

    5 out of 5 stars CELTIC TRANCE.......2001-02-15

CELTIC TRANCE IS VERY RELAXING AND ENCHANTING (NOT CHANTING) MUSIC. A GREAT LISTENING EXPERIENCE TO ENJOY WITH A LOVED ONE.

    Album Description

Sharon Knight's second solo album, Song of the Sea, is similar to Incantation in its fusion of traditional Celtic and modern Rock & Pop elements, but is far more sophisticated in both performance and production. This otherworldly blend of both traditional and original songs features soulful vocals and mythical themes set in a lush instrumental tapestry of mandola, mandocello, violin, acoustic and electric guitar, Uilleann pipes, whistles, piano, keyboard, and percussion.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars I loved it.......2007-02-19

This CD is a blend of traditional Celtic harmonies with the unusual and strong vocals of a true ballad singer. The instrumentation is made up of the expected Celtic sounds of pipes and whistles, drums and guitar as well as that of mandola, mandocello and violin.

Ms. Knights vocals are a rich alto with a soul-felt timbre. I am not often a fan of straight Celtic music, finding most of it rather repetitive and expected, but this collection takes the basics and adds a measure of individuality that surprises and delights the listener.

The CD has 11 tracks totalling almost an hour's worth of entertainment. The title track Star of the Sea begins with a siren's tale that sets the tune for what's to follow. The songs will delight Pagan and non-Pagan alike in their tapestry of melodies and layers of sound.

The case has a booklet with the lyrics for those interested in following along. To be honest, it was several times of listening to the CD before I actually registered the words because I found the compositions so enchanting by themselves. This a nice addition to any musical collection.

There is only one song in here that I would say sounds Irish. The rest
are more folk songs that sound more American. The cd is all right, but
    not the greatest.

The first time I popped this CD in , WOW I was stunned, You can hear the spirit within Sharon immediately in the way she weaves her beautiful voice within incredible accompanying music....
I was hooked by Track 4....I am Irish, so I adored her tales of mythical lords and ladies....
If you are a fan of Loreena McKennitt - BUY THIS CD !!! You will not regret it!!!

For all the overly-produced, sickly-sweet singers who come along in the name of Celtic music, let's hear it for SHARON KNIGHT. SHARON, to me, has a better voice than ANY of `em because she sounds like a real person &, to me, the reality of her sound makes it that much more beautiful. Ms. KNIGHT, as on her earlier recordings is simply spell-binding here. Listen to "Phoenix From The Ashes," "Captain Blackheart" & the title cut. Her luscious vocals, coupled with her command of mandolin & guitar, not to mention the work of her band, give this a rare range & depth that rivals that of The Chieftains...and yet with a much more ethereal & underground vibe. What a fantastic CD!

    Album Description

LAND OF THE BLIND out of Portland, Oregon & San Francisco is a band that creates different musical worlds for eclectic wanderers. "Tribal-Trance" is what they call it but this album weaves a magic carpet ride of Middle-eastern, Tribal, Native, Celtic, ambient rock and ethnic folk that bi-passes genre' and defies catagories.

Lead singer Cyoakha's honeyed vocals are poured over the music like mollasses, moving from Kate Bush-like howls to soft dreamy trance vocals & Middle-Eastern/Indian weavings. The entire band supports this movement from strong to dreamy.

ORDINARY MAGIC starts off with the Burning Man theme song, TRIBE, a cool anti-consumer native groove and moves right into the song Cyoakha Grace wrote for Julia Butterfly (when she was living in Luna), called CHURCH OF THE HOLY TREES, a dreamy middle-eastern ectopolitical statement. (Blind gives half of all sales of this song to EarthFirst) You can also hear CHURCH in the soundtrack of the new movie about Julia called "TREESIT". You'll still be dancing by the third cut, a wonderful Celtic romp with Cocteau Twins-like vocals called TRUST. The album slows down and drops into dreamy with MARY'S HANDS, and adds an ambient feel in this sweet ballad. MOTHER is an Irish dirge, semi-traditional but with a twist only the Blind can provide. ELIZA is a fun pop song, light, with a great Native American flute powering it out, as well as driving bass. A LITTLE MORE adds a Tom Waitish touch of techno, a mad trash can feel, yet with beautiful vocals. THE WITCHES OF KILKENNY is another Celtic piece but only as the Blind can do it, moving from an Irish tale into a driving bass and flute piece and ending with a group Om into JOURNEY'S END, their semi-cover of a very famous 60's band, something you won't forget as you drift away awash in keys, sitar and mediaeval bass lines, with Cyoakha's vocals dropping in from everywhere.

This CD is a journey like no other. If you like Kate Bush, Cocteau Twins, Tori Amos, The Doors, Sky Cries Mary, Mouth Music, Dead Can Dance, you will enjoy this cd!

5 out of 5 stars Ordinary Magic - Land of the Blind at it's best.......2001-10-17

OM is another brilliant outing from The Blind. Strong musicianship and songwriting abounds. As you would expect from them, OM has a very cool mix of tribal, trance, psychedelia, beautiful ballads and Eastern modal music. The Blind have always had this interesting mix of styles. OM is probably their most mature work to date. OM starts out with the passionate and trance-like "Tribe". "Mother" is a gorgeous elegy. Melo's flute and Krystov's dulcimer are so beautiful in accompanying Cyoakha's lovingly bittersweet lyrics and voice. "Witches of Kilkenny" builds to a ritualistic fever pitch. You can just picture the passionate dancing around the ever-growing flames of the ritual bonfire. The CD ends with a unique take on "The End". The Blind's version mixes the feel of an Indian raga and psychedelic space chanting ala Gilli Smyth of Gong. I highly recommend this CD.

    5 out of 5 stars Ordinary Magic.......2001-10-16

Finally got Land of the Blind's latest work "Ordinary Magic" after a long
    wait.
Well two things, it's worth the wait and it's a lot more than "Ordinary".
When I started to write this, I asked myself how would you describe this
    music to someone? I realized I didn't have a clue. I hear other people's
description and I guess the word tribal or trance connects in a muddied way.
The subject matter is diverse, sometimes dark, sometimes light and
uplifting. "Church Of The Holy Trees" a song written for Julia Butterfly is
a spiritual chant celebrating the holiness and sacredness of those
magnificent creatures that bless our existence. I'm so thankful for this
song and it's reminder of the work so many dedicated people all over the
world are doing to heighten our awareness of the sacredness of all species
threatened or not on our planet.
I'm not sure what "Eliza" is about but musically it tingles many of my soft
spots, melody, vaguely Eastern undercurrent, and mystery. "Mary's Hands" and
"A Little More (Monster)" are similar in how they tweak my musical hot
buttons, but are totally different musically and in every other aspect.
"Witches Of Kilkenny" find another weak spot in my armor, this time the
Celtic hole. Now, I understand the chill I felt in my heart as I spied
Kilkenny from a high tower over looking the town...witches, yes.
The last cut "Journey's End" is about 10 minutes long with a Eastern Indian
feel and something eerily familiar. I didn't get the connection until about
6 minutes into the song and recognized the "Doors" famous "The End" song. I
was really impressed by that Doors song when I first heard it, but only now
thanks to the Blind I see it in a very new and unusual light. Great job!

5 out of 5 stars Great Electronica CD-an IMPORT worth the price!.......2002-02-27

... It technically falls into the "Electronica" genre of music and this CD is a compilation of artists that have appeared at Homelands. It is a limited edition and has some great stuff on it.

It includes the Chemical Brothers Unreleased 'Out of Control' Sasha Remix, tracks by Hybrid, Basement Jaxx, Paul Van Dyk, Kraftwerk Art of Noise, Bedrock, The Orb, etc.

This CD successfully avoids the curse of a lot of dance/electronica compilations of having a profane rap song thrown somewhere in the mix just to be "inclusive".

When I buy a techno, trip hop or trace CD I like to get bang for the buck. Basically, I like to buy an album that has tons of great songs for a good price. At the end of the day (1) Does it provide you with social value (2) Does it provide some emotional connection or (3) Does it change your state of mind?...

Two other great Trance/techno CDs I have that I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND (there are others that I don't think are as good on a bang for buck basis) are BT Movement in Still Life & Chicane's Behind the Sun album...
