Force of Nature review.......2007-03-23
Force of Nature and Vital Force are the first cds I have purchased by 3rd Force after hearing them on a satellite radio contemporary jazz station. Not a bad track on this CD and I am continually amazed at the variety of music on this cd and the addition of Peter White, Rick Braun and Craig Chaquico only add to it. Of the two, Force of Nature blows me away and is a great choice for anyone looking to add some great jazz/new age music to their library, you won't regret it
9 years later and still good!!.......2004-10-08
Recently picked up some old stuff. This CD is refreshing. It is a blend of new age and contemporary jazz sounds. The tunes move you. The guest musicians include Boney James and Craig Chaquico. Most Boney James fans don't know about his early work. Track 2 - Listen to Your Heart features Boney and is my favorite track. The rest is equally good. Find a good price and pick yourself a good bargain.
A great combination of musical styles.......2000-12-16
This is the first 3rd Force CD that I purchased. I didn't know anything about 3rd Force and was surprised at how enjoyable their music is - it was like getting that unexpected and pleasing Christmas gift. It is a blend of smooth jazz and new age styles, that will fit many listening moods. I have since purchased 2 other of their CD's and intend to purchase the most recent.
Great to listen to for a stress reliever.......1999-11-05
These fellows make the greatest smooth jazz to listento.Hope they continue to putout more great CDs.
Excellent tempos and instramentals.......1999-08-17
This music is a great combination of new age and jazz. The fast tempos and varied instrumentals make it pleasure to listen too over and over again. I particularly enjoy listening during massage. It is soothing, but does not put you to sleep.

Forces of Nature still Going Strong.......2006-04-12
I hadn't listened to this CD in Years.
My boyfriend had his One Man CD in the player last night and it has some nice tracks also that got the Forces of Nature juices flowing. There are some songs on the Forces of Nature Cd that I really do like: Maybe I Deserve, She's A Freak, Slowly, Kill 4, UBounce and Grind...let's just say I like the ENTIRE CD! can't wait to get my vintage copy.
This Tank is Empty!.......2004-10-27
Before pubilcly presenting my feelings on Tank's album, "Force of Nature" I wanted to know what others thought about it. I read all the reviews from CDNOW.com and other reviews online as well as talking to people who have listened to this album. So now I know for a fact that I am not alone, this album is terrible! This is, by far, the worst CD I have ever taken a listen to.
This instrumental arrangements on this CD are bad, the lyrics are simplistic and repetitive, the vocals aren't that great and the album as a whole is barely worth the two stars I gave it. This album sounds like a bad demo. "What What What" and "Throw Your Hands Up" are sorry excuses for party songs. He tries, but miserably fails, to make songs with a good meaning with "Lady on My Block" and "Let it Go". This is not to say he doesn't offer any decent songs on his debut album. "Maybe I Deserve", "Slowly" and "My Freak" are all good songs. After listening to them, you would think he would be able to deliver a good CD, but no. Maybe if Tank gets a decent fill up on Premium or Super, he can bring it better than he did with this disgraceful work he calls a debut. Keep Trying Son.
i had high hopes.......2004-03-08
when i heard maybe i deserve i thought, this guy is someone i will like. he just grabbed me. i couldnt wait for this cd to come out. i ran to the store and bought it.... and i was highly disappointed. no other song anything like maybe i deserve on the whole thing. nothing for me i really do hope that he grows as an artist and holds onto his career because i wanna like his music i love his voice and the song maybe i deserve but i didnt like this cd. his 2nd one (one man) was better, but still not the level i want to see him on. basically i would say dont buy this, maybe buy one man if your curious, but keep your eyes out for this man because i really think with the right material he could be one of my favorites.
not versatile enough.......2004-02-22
unfortunately this album soon grows boring which is mainly based on the fact that the singer's voice is not versatile or emotional enough.
Truly Talented.......2003-04-13
I truly think tank is so very talented, but is just not getting any recognition at all. His voice is so very beautiful and I think he deserves a better record label.
keep up the good work sweetie, and I believe in you

Force of Nature is aptly titled; over three decades into her career, Koko Taylor is unstoppable. The Queen of Chicago Blues is in fine form on this 1993 release from Alligator, from her own "63 Year Old Mama," "Put the Pot On," and "Spellbound" to such blues classics as "Hound Dog," "Bad Case of Loving You," and "Born Under a Bad Sign" (featuring an appearance by Buddy Guy). "Mother Nature," with Carey Bell on harmonica, is a well-chosen opening track; Taylor's earth-shattering voice brings the roof down on your head and shakes you out of your shoes. Sit back and enjoy, but you'll soon find yourself up and dancing around the room. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
Koko Taylor ~ Force Of Nature.......2006-11-03
A strong showing of a powerful blues singer including many favorites as well as some new works.
****1/2 - one of Koko Taylor's finest Alligator albums.......2005-05-15
She is a force of nature, the "63 year old mama". Koko Taylor's big and rough but suitably expressive voice is just about as strong as ever on this 1993 album. It still is, even though she will turn seventy later on this year.
"Force Of Nature" opens with the title track, one of Taylor's best songs for many years. A gritty swaggering blues penned by "Little" Milton Campbell, it burns with intensity and the liquid fire of veteran Carey Bell's chromatic harp, and Taylor roars like a lion(ess) on tough renditions of Ike Turner's "If I Can't Be First", and the supremely funky "Let The Juke Joint Jump".
Koko Taylor's renditions of Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog" and Albert King's "Born Under A Bad Sign" (a duet with Buddy Guy) are good, if slightly too long at 5? and 6? minutes respectively.
"Don't Put Your Hands On Me" and "Bad Case Of Loving You" are excellent, no reservations, and so are the originals "63 Year Old Mama" and "Put The Pot On". The wonderful band includes drummer Ray Allison, pianist Jeremiah Africa, guitarist Calvin Louden and a small, punchy horn emsemble on most of the tracks.
In fact, if the good people at Alligator records would have cut the two or three least memorable songs, they would have had a sure five-star record...the quality of this material is consistently high, and the production by veteran Bruce Iglauer is excellent.
After a very strong start, "Mother Nature" starts to feel a little bit stale and unvaried for maybe ten minutes, but then comes a great, soulful cover of Toussaint McCall's classic "Nothing Takes The Place Of You", and the album winds down with two solid mid-tempo blues, leaving a very strong overall impression.
This is one great contemporary blues record.
This is some Blues.......2004-05-16
Koko Really puts all effort into this album.Good Foot Stompin Blues Music to enjoy in the car or at home or anywhere. This album is a keepers so I reccomend to buy this album for keepers. For a (63 year old Mama) She can tell someone they are a (houndog).
koko taylor force of nature.......2000-06-09
great music great blues great version w/buddy guy of born under a bad sign the main reason i brought the cd
Time will Tell.......1999-05-02
Born a sharecroppers daughter in the deep south, Cora Mae Walton used to play the blues with a piece of barbed wire and washing board . Thus was the beginning of a blues icon. Miss KOKO TAYLOR ,the premiere down home blues diva is a national , living ,treasure ! A life lived on the road in tour buses ,she can teach a few lessons to any younger artist. Koko sings like there is no tomorrow and drags you through the blues as low as it gets. Her recordings do not give her justice, nothing against her in any means , her live performances are simply monumental, almost a religous experience!Time will tell what great masterpiece Koko will do next.

Fine reissue of a classic set.......2006-05-24
Think about the stupidest, most formulaic Hollywood movies you can think of: cheesy action pictures, fluffy, unfunny comedies, big but stiff epics. Now imagine that one of the greatest living composers was working in Hollywood, turning out astonishing, hauntingly beautiful and stirring musical scores for these throwaway movies. That's what you get with this set: music Henry Purcell composed for some two dozen often utterly forgettable plays (trust me--I've read a number of them!) Occasionally, when he teams up with a playwright worthy of his stature, such as John Dryden, Aphra Behn, or William Congreve, the results are even better, but for the most part you can enjoy the music here without knowing anything about the original plays.
This set originally appeared as separate LPs in the 70s and 80s, and has been long out of print. That's a pity, since Purcell spent a good deal of his short professional life in the theatre, either writing the incidental music contained on these CDs, or the music for his larger works, the semi-operas (King Arthur, The Fairy Queen, and the like). Almost all of these works are enjoyable gems; certainly, they represent a pinnacle of English 17th century music. Purcell had a genius for spinning musical gold out of the most leaden lyrics (check out his Odes and Welcome Songs on Hyperion if you don't believe me), and he does the same with the song texts in these plays.
Hogwood and the AAM offer clean, listenable performances, and the sound on these old analog discs has been cleaned up and brightened--although they were pretty good, even in the late 70s. As with most Hogwood, emotional extremes are kept to a minimum, so the "otherworldly" nature of late 17th century music, so often emphasised in more recent Baroque performances, doesn't come across here. It would be interesting to see what a group like The King's Consort would do with this music, but this set fills the major gap in the Purcell canon quite nicely.
My only beef with the reissue, as with many reissues, is that the liner notes are rather thin for a 6-cd set--the lyrics to the songs, for example, are especially missed. Still, it's a worthwhile set, and a must for fans of Purcell, English Baroque music, or anyone who just wants to experience a taste of the last days of the Restoration stage.

Powerful music period!!!! Listen to this no matter what your musical tastes I dare you- you will become a fan!!! .......2006-02-26
This is one of my favorite albums I have ever listened to. It is one of those that actually gets better every single time you play it. The disappointing reviews given by other reviewers simply revolve around the basis of the album not being "traditional bluegrass"- that is not all bad in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I like traditional bluegrass- but let's be honest here: traditional bluegrass never really took firm root by today's standards because all of the songs sounded the same and you grow tired of, or at the very least yearn for something more, listening to the same timing and monotone keyed harmonies. If you understand what I mean, buy this album (or even if you don't understand it buy it) and you will learn why this band is setting the standard for the modern bluegrass revival.
This band has precision, polish, professionalism, excellent timing, vocal harmonies and fire that are unequaled in the music industry today. I repeat- try this album and reward yourself. I will even go as far to say that whenever I listen to this band the clouds part and it actually makes life wonderful no matter what the gloomy situation may be. Very lofty accolades I know, but it happens everytime I play it.
I have taken this to work and shared it with my co-workers and one of them told me that he has since cleaned out his entire CD storage area in his vehicle because this is the only CD he wants to listen to anymore!!!!
Buy this CD and if you don't like it I also guarantee their will always be someone that will want to buy it from you- you can't go wrong. This is one of those deals that is what you might call a "no-brainer".
Spread the word about this great band so that others may have the privelege of enjoying them as well. Have you seen the movie "Pay It Forward"? Share this album and it will make people feel good without it costing you a cent. ENJOY!!
Country not bluegrass.......2005-11-23
I saw these guys live in Telluride this summer (2005), and they were amazing. So I bought the CD, and it is vastly different from what I heard. In my opinion, the songs on this CD are closer to country than real bluegrass. I gave the CD to a friend who also loved their Telluride set, and he just gave it back to me without even listening to the whole thing. Don't bother with this one if you are looking for bluegrass!
Can't Stop Listening!!.......2004-10-29
Bought this after listening to 30 second clips and took a chance. I can't stop playing it. I can't even name a favorite though "Another Day", "Life She's Chosen", "With a Memory Like Mine" and "Soldier's Prayer" are tops on the list. The music is so well put together and the vocal blend is so smooth that I wonder how come I haven't heard of them before, come on people, buy it, listen to it and spread the word. This group needs to play around this country and share their vision. We can all benefit from that. I'd give it more stars if they would let me.
Their Best Album Yet!.......2004-10-12
This band just keeps getting better and better! On this, their latest effort, they broaden the scope of their music with songs about topics in the headlines every day as well as songs true to their mountain roots. Also the addition of Clay Jones adds yet another dimension to the already diverse sound qualities that make up Mountain Heart. The vocals are always first rate, but somehow they seem even tighter and more heartfelt this time around. If you like great bluegrass music without any pre-conceived titles or boundaries then you'll love this CD. It includes traditional as well as contemporary styles of bluegrass while still capturing the Mountain Heart passion and "sound" throughout. A must have for any bluegrass fan or just a fan of great music. Pick this one up!
Good Band Just not True grass.......2004-10-06
I saw this band in concert opening up for George Jones last year and I rushed out and bought the cd only to be disappointed. On their cd they don't play the same energetic truegrass that they did in their show. I reccomend buying one of their older albums instead of this one. This Album is far too watered down for a true bluegrass fan's taste.

Jazz with a strange twist.......2007-05-17
This is one of those albums in which I would strongly suggest you listen to before buying--especially with a purchase price at almost $50. The best way I can describe this music is of the acid jazz genre. Best for background music while you are doing something else. Not really the kind of music you can just sit down and listen to--unless you are smoking something other than a cigarette. There is no rhyme or reason to the music--it just is and is just there. There is no building cresendo taking you somewhere grand. Some songs just abruptly stop. It's the type of music that if you walked into a lounge, you might appreciate the strong beat while you are enjoying the moment, but will be quickly forgotten as soon as you leave.
I gave the album 3 stars because I can appreciate the talent in its production and delivery but ultimately it is not my cup of tea. I guess I am neither hip enough nor high enough to truly enjoy listening to it.
Japanese producer prevails.......2005-12-02
This album is definitly one to pick up. you cant miss out on the jazzy and piano based, with hip hop flavor tracks of this well colaborated music. It one of the best albums Ive ever heard and deserves 5 stars. love it
