This CD is for digital surround sound and will not work without a decoder.
I have tried this CD in every type of player and it will not play. I suggest you buy a version that does not require a decoder.

5 out of 5 stars Esteban...What Else Can You Say? He's Great!.......2005-03-17

I had never heard of this guy until one late night surfing the channels, I saw him on HSN. I thought he just sold guitars and wore a weird hat, but this guy can really play. I've only heard a few people say anything bad about him, but that's bound to happen when you are popular and especially if you're selling something on HSN. Excellent CD, very relaxing and inspirational. If you don't know about this guy, find out. He has a delightful story of courage and inspiration to share about he became who he is today. Highly recommend all of his music and if you're wanting to learn guitar, why not learn from the best? 5 Stars!!!

5 out of 5 stars Bravo, maestro!.......2005-02-23

I think, and I certainly hope so that amazon.com will STOP this Fernando guy writing gibberish about Esteban. Comments like "this is not a guitar", or "Esteban plays beginner-like" hurt only amazon.com to have some insecure person and obviously Esteban heater on their sites. If you listen to Esteban just for 20 seconds you will realize how senseless it is to call him "beginner". It's just ridiculous, even for those who hate him.
I recommend all of the Esteban music to everybody. It will relax you and if you are by chance starting a guitar, motivate you to go on. Esteban is one of the best guitarists. Bravo, maestro!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!! So uplifting I can't stop listening........2004-01-08

I had never heard of Esteban and then my husband asked me for a guitar for his birthday this year. When the guitar came in the mail, this CD was in the box. I was curious and so played the CD. I'm hooked!!! I think he's a master guitar player and he creates a mood so skillfully. This is music that makes one feel good.

I was not sure what to expect when I purchased this CD. I did not know if Esteban was actually able to play or was just someone selling guitars. I am very pleased with the CD the music is great. It is very relaxing and pleasant to listen to. Esteban is a very talented guitarist.

2 out of 5 stars gotta be honest.......2007-04-12

i would be lying if i said i love this cd.
i bought this album based on my connection i had on the first two worship circle records- i LOVE those albums. this cd isn't really in the same catergory- it doesn't have the energy, the uniqueness to it that the first ones did. it's hard for me to listen to this cd straight through- it is very repetitious. the sons just don't catch me and are just too similar.

i reccomend that if you are buying this because you like the original worship cicle's stuff, you should listen to samples on itunes or something first...

5 out of 5 stars Who Needs Pro Tools When You Got Passion?!.......2006-06-02

Let's face it. Ben Pasley has become a modern day David, pouring his heart and soul into Psalms that praise God. What I love best about him is that he takes the faults in his voice and instead of fixing them with Pro Tools, he uses it to emphasize his heartfelt passion (I love it when his voice cracks in "Sweet Forget"). With just a chair and a microphone (and oh yeah, an acoustic guitar), Pasley shows you what praise music is all about. Singing from your heart to the God that saves us and answers us when we call upon him. Ben also has a great sense of community and what it means to be a missionary inside the U.S. His Enter the Worship Circle website offers free guitar chords for all of their songs as well as access to the song's licenses. And he is much cheaper if you wanted to gt him to come to your hometown and play for you than most artists would be willing. While most artists would not be content with this approach to their music, Ben accepts it with open arms and you can hear how genuine he is in his music. And these songs are done in one attempt and the lyrics shine. Highlights include: Pieces, Sweet Forget, Crown Him, Wedding Days, How Precious To Me, and Please Don't Forget. Personally, I think Crown Him has some of the best lyrics I have ever seen. I wish more people knew about this CD. I also hear there is a volume 2 CD coming out soon, but I was saddened to hear that Ben will not be appearing on it. Oh well, maybe on Volume 3. And here are the lyrics to "Crown Him:"

Listen all you unborn children, and those yet to be born again
A seed from the God of heaven... was planted here in the world of men
He grew up only to be broken, He grow up only to be buried
"Hold on," I heard the prophet say, "hold on, that's not the end."

`Cause when the cross went up, the curtain came down
And a hush ran across the stage, but when the stone was rolled back
All the angels came `round, and the earth stood up on its feet to say...

Crown Him Love, crown Him Alive and Well, Crown Him God of Our Salvation
Crown Him Lovely, crown Him Beautiful, He is God and we adore Him...

(At the end): Creation began to speak, here come Jesus
In a purple robe, here come Jesus, like a lovely rose
Here come Jesus Back from the dead
Here come Jesus holding out His hand

5 out of 5 stars Heart felt and to the point.......2005-01-20

Ben Pasley wastes no time getting to the heart of the matter. From start to finish this CD is an ecxellent blend of emotions that any Christian can relate to on the most intimate of levels. Strongly recommended for anyone searching for a present day David singing pslams and hymns about God and for God. It is the lyrics behind the rythmn that I found most alluring. Combined with a passionate Pasley and his guitar, this CD is perfect at capturing the essence of heartfelt worship to a God who is as near as our own heart.

This performance, the only one available in English, is problematic. Best is Yves Abel's leadership of the orchestra, which sounds wonderful, imbuing Puccini's lush score with just the right exoticism and emphasis. But aside from Gregory Yurisch's fine Sharpless, the singers don't please. Paul Charles Clarke as Pinkerton is lacking stylistically and vocally, and as Butterfly, Cheryl Barker sounds under strain and never pretty. While she has the power and feeling for the big second-act climax (the sighting of the ship), she never for a moment sounds fragile or girlish, not even in the all-important early scenes. English or not, this set isn't in the running. Stick with Callas or Scotto in Italian, and follow the libretto. --Robert Levine

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A touching English Butterfly.......2002-03-27

Anyone familiar with Cheryl Barker's Butterfly will be interested in hearing this recording. I have heard her in the role twice - in Auckland and London - and her voice has filled out as the years have gone on. She hasn't a large italianate soprano; the sound is too slender somehow. Yet there is the paradox - it has great carrying power and a decent cutting edge to make itself heard above the orchestral climaxes. What really impresses is the sense of vulnerability and moral strength she imparts, making sense of the big moments of the secong act. The sound in Act one is gorgeous (and a super D flat in theentrance aria) and she differentiates impressively between the child-bride and the embittered woman of the two acts.

She is surrounded by a mixed supporting cast. Jean Rigby is maternal, warm and affecting as Suzuki. Gregory Yurisich makes Sharpless' dilemma more understandable than usual, rather than being completely ineffectual. Paul Charles Clarke perhaps illustrates Pinkerton's arrogance with a degree of vocal swagger, but the sound is rough-hewn and unlovely save for some moments in the love duet. Stuart Kale's Goro is suitable ingratiating and oily.

Abel's conducting is the other chief draw of this set. That he has experience of the score in the theatre means that his pacing is really superb, and the lush orchestration is given its due, the potent intermezzo during the overnight vigil sounding suitably ominous.

This won't replace the classic Butterfly recordings, but in the absendce of any new ones recently, and for acceptable diction in an English version, it is certainly worth the (not very high) price. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A Pretty Darn Good Lohengrin.......2005-04-14

I got this Lohengrin from the local library, and I tried to get a taste of what I was in for by looking it up here on Amazon.com. But to my dismay there were no reviews. And later, to even greater dismay on my part, I found that there is no reason for such a lack of reviews! For this is a solid Lohengrin. While Peter Hofmann is not the most vocally resplendent Lohengrin (he isn't a Konya or a Domingo), he turns is a good performance, and Karen Armstrong is a passionate Elsa who plays the part admirably. The rest of the cast is strong on the whole. But the real splendors of this set spring from the pit - Woldemar Nelsson (of whom I had never heard until I discovered this recording) leads the Beyreuth Festival orchestra in a burning account. They are a truly Wagnerian orchestra (it would be a shame if they weren't), and Nelsson brings out all the Master's colors. The energy of a live performance just pours out. Never have I heard the preludes and prominent sections played with such an intense timbre. It's amazing to hear.

Therefore, though this set doesn't match Kempe, Solti, or Leinsdorf overall, it is a strong alternate set that should not be ignored.
