A Musical Blessing.......2007-07-06
The music of Tim Janis' album 'Flowers In October' is the most beautiful I have ever heard. "Isles of Shoals" brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it, and continues to move me. Tim Janis is an incredible composer and musician and his music is a gift we are blessed with.
Touches your soul.......2007-03-11
Bought this music to listen to while I read before bed. It is so beautiful that I kept finding myself listening to the CD and not reading the book. Highly recommend this CD.
Absolutely breathtaking.......2006-09-09
I just purchased this two volume set and was I ever amazed! At first I thought "cool, two CDs". Then I realized that one of them was actually a DVD. When I slipped it into my computer, I was treated to some of the most breathtaking nature scenes along with some of the most gorgeous music. I love the way Tim Janis makes each song a theme for the awesome visuals that take you away to places you've never been. I would recommend this set to anyone. It's wonderful!

Composer Tim Janis has long straddled the line between contemporary instrumental and classical music. With An American Composer in Concert, he further blurs that line. The first nine tracks of this disc were recorded by the Tim Janis Ensemble in the composer's studio. They're short, majestic, and relaxing instrumentals named after nature themes ("Cape Elizabeth," "The Fallen Leaves of Autumn," "Pacific Wind"). Things pick up slightly during the 10 live tracks that make up the second half of this disc. Recorded at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center with the American Symphony Orchestra, these tracks feature luxuriant strings, the occasional pennywhistle solo, and one vocal track (a take on "Amazing Grace" with sweeping orchestrations). As with most Janis efforts, there's nothing groundbreaking here, just soothing music and pleasant melodies. --Jason Verlinde

December Morning.......2004-10-17
It is just so soothing. I've had the opporturnity to see him in person (sort of) on QVC shopping channel. I can just see his face as he places along with the rest of the group. He looks so peaceful and serene. And that is how I feel listening to his music.
Splendid Live Performance from Modern Composer Tim Janis.......2003-04-24
Tim Janis's latest CD is split into two sections; the first 9 tracks feature new works, and the latter 10 tracks are taken from his live performance at the Lincoln Centre (USA) earlier in 2001.
The new tracks are a little repetitive in sound, but there is some quality music within them. Where the CD really takes off, however, is in the live section, which features renditions of his favourite pieces ably supported by the American Symphony Orchestra. Stand-out tracks include "Twin Lights", "Water's Edge" and my favourite of all, "Amazing Grace", featuring the powerful voice of Gwendolyn Leathers supported by some fabulous orchestration.
"White Mountain" deserves a mention of its own for its sheer excellence and beauty. Stunning penny-whistle playing!
These live tracks are taken from Janis's previous releases, including the excellent "Water's Edge" and the now unavailable "Flowers in October".
At over 70 minutes in length, you get a lot of music for your money.
If you enjoy melodic, soothing instrumental music played by a symphony orchestra, this CD may well be the one for you.
Highly recommended.
Very good but not excellent.......2002-11-22
When I first heard Tim Janis on our local PBS station, I was memerized by his music so I had to get the CD. I'm glad I did but I have to admit when a friend pointed out that all his songs pretty much sounded the same, I had to agree. Maybe as he gets older there will be some more variety, I hope so. He's a very talented young man.
An outstanding CD that leaves you wanting more.......2002-03-15
"An American Composer in Concert" is another outstanding CD from Tim Janis. The lush mixture of ensemble and orchestral songs truly transport you to a better place emotionally and mentally. Tim Janis composes the music I've been waiting my whole life to hear, though I didn't know it until I heard it. I'm much more at peace with nature and myself after listening to his music. On this CD, "Blue Hill Bay" is probably my favorite of all Tim Janis' songs, but all the songs on this CD (with the possible exception of a vocal rendition of "Amazing Grace" that doesn't seem to belong) are great. If you haven't heard Tim Janis' music, you owe it to yourself to get this one and listen to it. Since I've found his music grows on people, I guarantee if you listen to your CD 5 times, you'll be hooked like I am and explore his other CD's as well. Enjoy!!
Incredible music from an incredible evening..........2001-11-23
I LOVE the music of Tim Janis and this CD is a truly wonderful CD. This CD has georgeous live tracks and extra bonus tracks to make it completely full of breathtaking melodies...I would truly recommend it to anyone who wants to have some beautiful music around the house!

Customer Reviews:
Simply Amazing!.......2006-05-31
I got this CD when I was very little and never really listened to anything but the first song "Isle of Shoals." I thought this song was gorgeous even when I was five but as I grew older and finished listening to the whole album, I was astounded by the haunting and mesmerizing melodies that poured from my stero. I feel so many emotions listening to this CD. For instance I feel happy listening to "Isle of Shoals" and "Ocean Ledges." I think of so many memories listening to "Cathedral of the Pines." I also feel slighty sad listening to "September."
But the thing that amazes me most is the fact that the music can capture majestic mountains, quiet fields, and things of that sort. I have always loved the views of beauty that nature provides us with. But because I live in an area that doesn't provide me with much nature, this music brings out the views I try and create solely with my imagination.
I think this is the perfect music for any emotion and I hope Tim Janis continues to provide the world with his music.
It is the best music ever........2001-11-29
Tim Janis Flowers in October is one of his best performance ever.
It is a peaceful and relaxing type of music with a sense of relaxation to it.
I would encourage anyone to get this CD.
What wonderful music!.......2001-08-30
I happened to luck out and hear Tim Janis live one day and bought "Shores of Acadia" as a result. That was so good, I bought all of his other CDs. "Flowers in October" is the best in my opinion. I've found the first time or two I listen to a Tim Janis CD, it sounds good, but the more I listen, the better the music sounds. It really grows on me. The lush, inspiring sound really stirs the soul and is a great stress reducer. I would rank this the best CD I've ever heard. Try it and you'll know.
Serendipity.......2000-01-18
I had been visiting my sister, had been feeling a little tired and stressed out, and I decided to get my hair styled as a treat to myself. I was sitting in my sister's hairdresser's shop in a mall in Attleboro, Massachusetts and I noticed that the shop was playing the most lovely music with a slight Celtic or Gaelic flavor. I asked the hairdresser if she could tell me what tape it was, since I was hoping to buy a copy. She smiled and said, "Oh, it's a live group, and they're outside!"
When I was through, I stepped outside and saw the Tim Janis Ensemble playing. Several of their CDS were available. I bought this, and my sister bought December Morning.
The music is just as lovely in the recording as it was live, and just as haunting. The tonal qualities are splendid, the emotion well expressed and compelling. As one who lives within sight of the Isles of Shoals, I find the music wonderful. I cannot recommend this CD highly enough - it has about it all that is good in classical music and all that is good in contemporary music. No cliches, nothing cutesy - just splendid, lovely music.
Unforgettable music that fills the soul.......1999-10-30
I purchased the CD in a little shop in Bar Harbour Maine. My wife and I make a yearly trip to Maine and as I heard the CD playing in the store, I knew that I had to take it with me. I have played it over and over again and I use it every time that I study. I can only compare the music to that of the classical masters and I am planning to get the rest of Janis' CDs. I would recommend this CD to anyone that wants to escape to the world away from the hustle of everyday living.
