5 out of 5 stars APURIMAC ~ CUSCO.......2007-03-09

As a great fan of CUSCO I have most of his music and have just added his three APURIMAC CD's to my collection. I enjoy many different kinds of music but seem to have Cusco on every day more and more. His lovely sounds are so happy and uplifting...a person just can't stay in a bad mood.

4 out of 5 stars Coast to Coast theme.......2007-01-09

I bought this recording to get the Coast to Coast closing theme. I like it very much though the song I wanted "the Inca Dance" is rather short. Oh well. The rest of the CD is okay -2 to 3 stars- kind of pan flute meets stars on 45 ish.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!.......2007-01-05

Heard this music for the first time on Coast to Coast and had to get the CD! I think I played it 3 times the first day I received it!

5 out of 5 stars Good listening.......2007-01-04

Having heard one of the songs as bumper music on a radio show I was pleased to have found it so easily on Amazon and ordered it, deliverie was fast and uneventful. This type of music is not your usual instrumental as it has an electronic sound to it.

4 out of 5 stars A Good U.S. Debut For Cusco.......2005-02-01

Apurimac is Cusco's U.S. debut. This album introduced Cusco's trademark synthesizer sound to an American audience. While each Cusco album is different in its musical direction, each of them display the same, musical sound that is Cusco;heavy use of synthesizers, primarily as synthesized flutes, and full of melodic,high-energy,and dramatic music, with each of their albums covering a certain cultural and historic theme. Here on Apurimac,(the first of 3 in the Apurimac series)the music is focused on a ancient Incan theme, with a Peruvian influence, and full of simplistic, but melodic and enjoyable tunes. While the simplicity of the musical structure makes me subtract 1 star from the rating,it is the beauty and enjoyable experience of the album which saves the album and keeps me coming back to it time after time. The highlights on this album are "Apurimac","Flute Battle","Flying Condor","Fighting Inca",and "Apurimac 2",but the whole album is enjoyable, and none of the tracks are worthy of skipping.A promising U.S. debut for a then little-known group which has now become one of the most popular New Age groups in the world.Listen to this and their subsequent albums and you will see why.If you like this album,I also recommend you try their many other albums, but especially Apurimac 2 and Apurimac 3.They are even better than this album! In the meantime, give this album a listen and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Cusco is a must have.......2007-03-14

I have been a Cusco fan since I first heard about them on a talk-radio show many years ago. At that time, I ordered the cassettes and have played them over and over. You cannot go wrong with a Cusco. When I found out that Cusco had CDs, I immediately ordered what I could and have enjoyed them all over again.

5 out of 5 stars 5-Star Music.......2005-03-10

I grew up to this music...I've listened to it 500 times! And I'm only 23!

5 out of 5 stars More Inca Mysteries Revealed ..........2004-07-06

Cusco reveals more mysteries of the Inca culture with their interpretative music on this highly creative CD. Their imagination soars into inner space - opening up new avenues of listening pleasure. Although my very favorite Cusco CD is the first Apurimac, this sequel is equally alluring. It contains fluid melodies and natural rhythms that bring to life the 'secrets' of the Inca culture. Experience the musical heights of the Andes mountains, glide on the wings of the condor and feel the soft fur of the lamas and alpacas ... This music is joyous and cheerful. Cusco creates New Age music which brings to life the mysteries of the ancient past ... mesmerizing the listener. Erika Borsos (erikab93)

1 out of 5 stars Really Dreadful and Uninspiring.......2004-01-02

When I purchased this album, I was hoping for something along the lines of Deep Forest. I was dissapointed. The songs on Apurimac II all sound alike, not a single track posesses any kind of depth, the sound textures are plastic, and the melodies are trite. The track "Quetzal's Feather", in particular, sounds a lot like a cheesy 1980s TV show theme song. All in all, a thoroughly uninspiring album.

Steer clear -- this is not what new age or ambient were meant to be.

5 out of 5 stars Loves American Ancestry.......2003-05-20

I just love the cusco collection of music. Especially the return to our ancestry cd. It was very uplifting and powerful at the same time. Brings you back into a time where life was sacred and humans were respected. If you love this CD then I suggest "strongly" that you buy 500 Nations which is a muscial journey into the American Indian Heritage; back into another era. This CD is simply put, AWESOME! There isn't one song that will not move you either by body or soul. It came from a CBS televison miniseries. But who would ever have known the songs would be so powerful. The music is by Peter Buffett. BUY IT. If you are fans of Cusco you will not be disappointed with it..I promise.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Been searching for another favorite besides 500 Nations..........2007-05-28

Since hearing "500 Nations" and the songs on a Native American radio station, I'd been looking for another album that appeals to me. A brother introduced Cusco to me, and I liked them. So, when I saw this album, I had to try it. Now, it is my favorite Cusco album. It is more polished than hearing live music at pow-wows, but the rhythm and "feel" of the music is still the same.

5 out of 5 stars YESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-06-08

This album makes my spirit soar!!!!!!!!!

(Ghost Dance is my favorite one.)

5 out of 5 stars Very pleasant........2004-04-18

This cd starts off with Ghost Dance and then mellows from there. It is very pleasant and takes a few listenings to really appreciate the depth of this group's music. I found it very enjoyable and this is one group whose music can be listened to many times without becoming tiresome. I've not found any artists like that since Enya (Carribean Blue) and Loreena Mckennit (Book of Secrets).

5 out of 5 stars As Heard On Art Bell.......2003-05-01

This album can be a little grating as the songs have a lot of similarity in some respects, but the rhythms and flute tones are fantastic. It goes better in small doses than in playing it for a long time, but it's an enjoyable album to listen to while driving. There are a couple of songs that really bring out the feral side of the band!

5 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece!.......2002-01-14

Again, Cusco shows the New Age world what they're made out of! This Cd is the best Native American music out there! Before you buy this CD you must know that this isn't your typical Native American music, Cusco adds their flavors to it and twists it making it all their own sound. Please be open-minded and give this album a chance! You'll love it!
