The Saint: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack [Soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This '90s update of the classic U.K. television series of the '60s was roundly criticized for its murky, convoluted plotting and quirky performance by Val Kilmer in the title role of Simon Templar. But its soundtrack--a typically market-driven collection of modern pop--is actually one of the better efforts of the '90s. Leaning heavily on electronica influences (Orbital's conservative rendering of Edwin Astley's TV theme, Moby's driving "Oil," The Chemical Brothers' "Setting Sun," and others), The Saint at least holds together as a cohesive musical statement, something many similar collections can't claim. Also includes songs by the Sneaker Pimps, Duran Duran, David Bowie, Everything But the Girl, and Duncan Sheik. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favourites (and I own a lot of music)........2005-07-11

I bought this album when I saw the movie in theatres ... it's brilliant from the diversity of the music to how great all of the songs are. It comes with me any time I travel a long distance ... and living across the pond this makes it irreplaceable in my collection. I must say that the greatest find, unbeknownst to me before hearing this, were Dreadzone. "A Dream Within a Dream" is a track that moves me to this day. If you like good techno mixed with a little bit extra, this album is for you.

5 out of 5 stars A superb album!.......2005-05-29

This is one of the best soundtrack albums on CD. Every track is a classic - a superb album!!!

4 out of 5 stars Near perfection but alas puzzle pieces missing.......2005-04-13

the saint was a truly terrific take on the hit 60s tv show starring Roger Moore. The soundtrack really captures the essence of eastern europe chill music with 6 underground and Dream within a Dream. if it werent for the missing tracks from the Carrs and the Smashing Pumpkins this soundtrack would be literal gold.

5 out of 5 stars Dream within a Dream!!!.......2005-03-18

Track #11 is what this soundtrack is all about!!
I can listen to this song over and over until I fall sleep and have my own weird dreams. But this soundtrack has a great collection of late 90's techno and fast tempo songs. It also has a great amount of the music that helps the movie along.
The last three songs are really what makes this a good album though.!! Loved them.

4 out of 5 stars where are "The Cars"?.......2004-10-07

great cd, but missing "You're all I've got Tonight" by The Cars. This song plays when he is smugly smiling after a slick getaway. Too bad it's not on the soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Must Have .......2005-12-29

Cabin in the Sky is an excellent, excellent black film. Very entertaining and a movie that projects the power of a conscience. I first saw Cabin in Sky on the AMC channel with my dad when I was 15 years old. I am now 32 years old and every time I watch the movie it is as if I am watching it for the first time. This is a great movie and I can't wait for the DVD version.

5 out of 5 stars Perfectly remastered classic.......2001-09-18

I have to give this CD 5 stars since it provides americans the only chance to listen to the fine voice of Kenneth Spencer. It's worth buing the CD just for the one track he's singing.

5 out of 5 stars Louis, Lena, Ethel, and Eddie in a classic.......2000-12-13

CABIN IN THE SKY is one of my favorite films, and the soundtrack does full justice to the score and the performers. 5 extended versions and 4 outtakes are welcome additions to this entertaining CD. The combination of jazz and inspirational tunes surpisingly come together very harmoniously in this mixture of fantasy and reality. The sound quality is fine, though a stereo remix was not possible. From the opening "Lil' Black Sheep" to "Taking a Chance on Love" the score is full of gems and anyone who loves musicals will be inspired by this soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK.......1999-07-31

Duke Ellington, Ethel Waters & Lena Horne, what else could a musical ask for. Three giants of jazz & blues, who show us a small portion of their great indvidual talents on this soundtrack.

Duke Ellington's , Going Up, Lena's version of Ain't it the Truth, and the wonderful swinging vocals of Ethel Waters. One of the african-american divas that was there when blues and jazz started, and one of the earliest to be recorded. Makes you wonder why more musicals were not made with these great artists.Reccommend also all of Miss Waters recordings reissued on the Classics Label from 1921-1940. This cd is a must for anyone interested in jazz or blues.
