5 out of 5 stars Not as bad as everyone thinks.......2005-11-07

I guess if your living in the 80's still and can't accept a
little change than maybe I can see why you would'nt like it. Dokken was probably trying to fit in with the grunge era but if you really listen to it you can appreciate this album for what it is. The songs are not bad. It's a bit different but keep an open mind. An artist has more than one way to express himself and this is it. Check it out!

1 out of 5 stars Wow, this is bad!.......2005-10-12

Quite simply put, this is not only the worst Dokken record ever made, it is one of the worst albums in my pretty large collection...and this is coming from a huge Dokken fan. Not one memorable hook on this CD no matter how many times I play it just to try and get into it. If you want a bright spot maybe the song "Sweet Life" merits some but on a better album it would still only be mediocre. Huge disappointment after the satisfying reunion album "Dysfunctional." As soon as I need more space in my CD racks this one's disappearing!

1 out of 5 stars Horrible.......2005-05-18

I've been a Dokken fan from the beginning. When I popped in this CD, I had to make sure that an error wasn't made when it was packaged as I could not believe this is Dokken. Of course I have everything prior to this includine Erase the Slate and the other newer stuff, but these songs are absolutly horrible. There's not 1 memorable track that stays with you. This album is depressing as it is disapointing. There is no structure here. I'm all for a band to evolve with the times, but to do a total 180 is simply not that. For this incredibly talented line up to put out such horrible dredge is a slap in the face to a Dokken fan like myself who's followed and supported the band since the beginning. It's almost like they purposley went this route to see if they could get away with it. Horrible, horrible lack of effort.

2 out of 5 stars Dokken meets Soundgarden - weak release........2005-04-22

I've been a big Dokken fan for over 20 years, but I agree with a most of the negative reviews here. There are maybe three songs on here worth a second listen - most of this is pretty old-fashioned and uninspiring filler material. Sounds like Dokken got caught up in the grunge craze that is not their style, and it resulted in this mostly dismal recording (yes, some of it sounds like recycled SOUNDGARDEN). I got this only because I am a completist for Dokken material. I still think their best ever was Tooth and Nail, but anything they did in the 80's is worth buying as is Don Dokken's solo UP FROM THE ASHES. Unless you're a Dokken completist like me, pass this one up. However, if you're into the "Seattle sound" (which I am not), this might actually have more appeal then to those who are longtime Doken fans.

3 out of 5 stars Two Words: Sound Garden.......2004-09-15

Yeah, Soundgarden is actually one word, but you get the point. This album sounds nothing like Dokken as we (the proud "mulletmen" of the '80s) knew it. I had to double check the CD case to make sure Chris Cornell hadn't made a cameo on a couple of the tracks. Surprisingly, after listening to the album once three years ago and tossing it across the room in disgust,I pulled it back out recently thinking "it can't have been THAT bad, right?" Well, it's not that bad. It doesn't rock. But it's not *that* bad. Of course, if I want to hear Soundgarden or Pearl Jam (and I don't, really), I'd simply go Kazaa a few of their tracks. "Puppet On A String" and "Convenience Store Messiah" are catchy but, as many here have already said, a big part of Dokken is George Lynch...and I can't remember a single riff or solo he does on this album despite having listened to it several times now. Compare that to instantly memorable licks like those in "In My Dreams" or "Into The Fire," for example, and it's easy to understand why almost nobody likes this album.
