Gothfather Peter Steele returns with a new batch of familiar-sounding tracks that satisfy the ache metal fans have long felt for a new Type O Negative record. While Steele and Co. don't reinvent the genre here, the opening breakneck rocker "Dead Again," its Black Sabbath-on-Diamond Head successor "Tripping a Blind Man," and the epically epic "The Profits of Doom" create the metallic trinity of 2007's first quarter. Elsewhere, Steele gives us another gothic, Alice Cooper-esque ballad ("September Sun"), tears up our speakers with a little bit of humor ("Halloween in Heaven"), and comes around once more to slam down the almighty doom hammer ("She Burned Me Down"). Yes, the production's a little murkier than it probably has to be and no there's nothing that strikes as an immediate classic, but as Type O records go, Dead Again is admirable for its strong convictions and solidity. --Jedd Beaudoin
Album Description
Dead Again is Type O Negative's seventh studio album, and after a four year lapse between releases, a much-anticipated return to the sonic bombast that the Brooklyn-based band is famous for. Clocking in at over 77 minutes, Dead Again is a 10-song musical journey through the darkest depths of the human condition. Love, loss, insanity, morality, mayhem, your secret dreams and worst nightmares are all included in the Type O Negative formula created by the self-taught professor of emotional chemistry, Peter Steele. Recorded and Produced by Steele and keyboardist Josh Silver, the sound of darkness is prophetic, the rock is hard and the screams are real. In the words of Grigori "The Mad Monk" Rasputin, whom the Russian nobility unsuccessfully attempted to kill on numerous occasions for his influence on the last family of Czars, "When the bell tolls three times, it will announce that I have been killed...Pray Czar of Russia. Pray."
With past gold and platinum albums under their belts, the bells have definitely not tolled for Type O Negative. Reaffirmed and resolute, they bring you news from a darker place, a place of infinitely organized chaos where the living cannot be swayed from their infinite circle of creation and destruction. We are born, we live, we fuck it all up, we strive to forgive and be forgiven, and we are reborn. Type O Negative are on the brink of a rebirth. But first they are Dead Again!

Very Disappointed.......2007-07-25
I was very disappointed with this release. The reasons is because more than half the album is noisy feedback, and Peter Steele's songwriting shows how jaded he is with life, and the band. The lyrics are very juvenile and uncreative, and musically, just noisy feedback that lasts for 15 minutes a track.
The only song I like off this album is 'These Three Things'. I really didn't even care for September Sun, reminds me of Adam Sandler's song that he sang to Drew Barrymore in the movie "Wedding Singer". This is the first TON album that I can honestly say that I do not like. I only like one song off the album, and even then its not what I call a radio friendly hit.
Sorry Peter and Crew, but your not getting any younger, and the music isn't getting better. Quit while you are ahead so I can enjoy the great music that was once October Rust and Bloody Kisses. I guess this is what happens when you run out of ideas when you are pushing 50.
The Dream really is dead.
Not their best........2007-07-10
Often times when someone hears the terms "gothic" and "metal" they think of girl lead singers with a melodic voice and music to perfectly accompany her. Type O Negative comes pretty close to that but instead of a female lead singer they have a male. Type O Negative sounds somewhat like Sonata Arctica except that Peter Steele has a deeper voice than Tony Kakko. I will admit that when I first listened to Type O Negative the change in voice was startling at first and still is.
I didn't really like this CD but if I had to choose a favorite song it would have to be the title track. I really did like the minor haunting chords but Steele's voice really made me jump back in my seat. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who wanted a change in gothic metal. [..]
WTF!!!.......2007-06-24
OK, so I would REALLY give it 2 1/2 stars, however, since i can't give half stars, it doesn't deserve 3. I would like to say, right off the bat, yes, I too, am a BIG TON fan. However, I will NOT sugarcoat a review or be blinded by what is put out on this CD just because I really like these guys. I just finished it, from womb to tomb, and I have to say this really falls short.
A primer first, my music influence ranges from, my favorite, RUSH, to TON to Celldweller, but I also love stuff like Tom Vedvik and Global Communications, so my interests are not just cemented in Goth Rock, or the likes thereof. And, I too, have been in the music field, so I'll try and put a "professional" opinion on this review.
When I listened to this CD, I was amazed at how much repitition in licks and hooks this album has, not only within itself, but also with their last three recordings. From the begining of Dead Again, with the pick scraping down the strings, to the ending of the song, which sounds just like the ending of "Angry Inch." Now, I can just hear the avid, or rabid, TON fan saying, "But it's their thing, that's what TON is, it's their sound." Well, I prefer to have constant originality and not rehashing songs that sound just like 4 or 5 others before it.
Like one other reviewer wrote, they do have some chick singing in "Halloween in Heaven," and yes, her voice is far from great. In fact, it's rather dull, almost sounding like she had a slight head cold. Sorry if she finds this review negative, but I call them like I hear them.
What is slightly impressive is some of the guitar solos. What is even more impressive, if it's really Kenny playing them, and not having them substituted, like he did on "How Could She." As much as I love these guys, they do fall short in the musically talented arena, compared to the likes of Rush, Yes, and such, as well as second seat players (insert band here). However, TON will also be the first to admit they are not star performers in the given roles, but what they do have, is what it takes to sound significantly different from anyone else, and that's what makes them a star act.
I just wish, after waiting nearly 4 years, is that something a little more "orginal" from this "orginal" band could have been produced. I absolutely loved "Life is Killing Me," "October Rust," and even Peter's least favorite recording, "World Coming Down." Although I found myself taping out a beat hear and there, or just sitting back and trying to focus on the song, this recording offers no real catchy hooks, muscially charged impressions, and no real "POP". ( And I don't mean "pop" as in "pop music") At times the music almost sounds like a ditribe of repetitiveness.
Some people talk about giving it an x amount of times listening to it and then "dreaming" about a song and suddenly falling for this album. I just don't see that happening, and it really shouldn't have to, especially if you really like a band. The really sh**ty thing about this is, watch me listen to this a dozen more times and then start to come over to the dark side. Hmm, doubt it.
I still love these guys, and yes, it will always be in my collection and on my mp3 player. I just hope they get back to thier old ways, soon.
slow deep and hard meets bloody kisses.......2007-06-13
a must have for any type o fan.
Sounds like a demo cd some local bar band handed out.......2007-06-05
I guess I should have downloaded this album first, but Type O was one of those bands I thought I could always count on to at least deliver something moderately enjoyable. When I first bought this and popped it in my car's cd player, I was surprised that the opening track sounded so lame. I stuck with it though and went track by track, never finding a single song that sounded like the Type O that I know.
I gave it two more tries, and each time I just couldn't tolerate it. I put it away for a couple months and tried again today, and I think it actually sounds a bit worse.
OK, let me make this simple; to me, October Rust was perfect. I enjoy the entire cd, every single song. World Coming Down was great, I thought about 70% of it was excellent. Then Life is Killing Me came out and I thought it was rather disappointing and didn't care for the direction they were going in, but I still enjoyed about 30% of it. This new cd sounds like the worst parts of Life is Killing Me stretched out over an entire cd. I guess if you liked the last cd and thought songs like Electrocute, Nettie and The Dream is Dead were lame, maybe you'd like this.

Granddaddy of the Hollywood studios, Paramount Pictures is rightfully proud of its century of contributions to both American cinema and the art of film scoring. But the first disc of this 43-track double-CD anthology merely hints at the studio's musical peaks, blithely skipping through its first seven decades in just 17 tracks. Indeed, the package as a whole seems more interested in marketing its post-'70s catalog of hits and blockbusters than it does in paying real homage to history and roots. Even rarities like Double Indemnity and The Lost Weekend are served up via modern budget-line rerecordings, as is Ennio Morricone's epochal Once upon a Time in the West). Contemporary recordings of Aaron Copland's rare score to The Heiress and Franz Waxman's great Sunset Blvd. fare better, but soundtrack fans may miss the originals. The studio's rich pop-crossover successes in the '60s are documented via Breakfast at Tiffany's "Moon River" and excerpts from Romeo and Juliet and Love Story, while successful franchises like Star Trek and Raiders also get their due. Too often the '90s-focused second disc only underscores some uncomfortable trends in contemporary scoring--orchestral nervous tics punctuated by booming crescendos, treacly piano Muzak--and makes one wonder if the music of The Rugrats Movie and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider are really film music milestones. --Jerry McCulley

Great Movies have Great Soundtracks!.......2007-05-10
If you love movies and movie music, you can't go wrong with this two cd Paramount Anniversary set.
Only Disc 1 Is Worth Anything.......2006-07-19
Normally I have a lot to say in my reviews, but not this time. The main problem with this collection is that all the most memorable film scores are just on one disc, with the second used mostly to play out stuff from the last ten years that, really, musically isn't very memorable and only includes three pieces anyone will recognize just because, like the movies they come from, they're based on old TV shows - The Addams Family, Star Trek, and Mission: Impossible.
And that brings up another problem. With all due respect to the late Jerry Goldsmith, who has provided some truly great classic movie scores, was it REALLY necessary to include TWO versions of the SAME Star Trek march in this collection? This seems evocative of the milk-it-for-all-its-worth attitude Paramount has had lately toward its now-tarnished crown-jewel franchise. Where's James Horner's theme music from Star Trek II and III? If they're gonna put Star Trek on here twice, they should have provided a little diversity. It wouldn't have taken much, I'm sure.
I'm sure that Paramount's had other films with far more memorable music (even Harold Faltermeyer's Top Gun Anthem could have helped on Disc 2). This just seems like a lazy attempt at something that really could have been great.
More of a propaganda CD.......2002-10-30
There are some really great songs on this 2 CD set. However, those really great songs seem to be lightly interspersed amongst a large number of forgettable songs whose main purpose seems to be to remind you of those movies you enjoy(ed) so much.
It seems a little odd to me that out of 90 years of film making the most memorable scores have been largely released within the last few years. I was pleased to find themes from the Godfather, Indiana Jones and Witness. I was perplexed with the inclusion of songs from Rugrats, both Mission Impossible movies (one would have been more than enough) and Tomb Raider (memorable???).
This is my own personal bias, but I do prefer movie soundtracks that evoke a feeling of excitement. With this collection I just couldn't get excited. I kept finding myself being let down by songs that didn't in some way complement the preceeding song.
There are certainly some great tracks here, but overall I was disappointed. My advise would be to look elsewhere.
Great selection of Film Hits!.......2002-09-25
This one was a pleasant surprise! I thought- how could any CD that had "Baby Elephant Walk" be all that good? This one is. Lots of great scores- classics and a few hidden treasures. After hearing the beautiful title score for "Children of a Lesser God", I had to buy the entire soundtrack - very soothing. There are a few that may seem too overplayed ("Love Story", "Raiders of the Lost Ark",), but most are a welcome addition to any compilation. Try NOT loving "Building the Barn" from "Witness" or the "Hymn to the Fallen" from "Saving Private Ryan". Hours of great listening.
Older recordings, main themes only.......2002-08-27
This is a great album concept, but I really wish Paramount had re-recorded these scores as they deserve to be heard. The tracks range from 1944 to the present, and the older recordings sound just like the cleaned-up older recordings that they are.
I would also personally have enjoyed more "secondary" music themes (otherwise it becomes like reading book summaries that always only quote the opening paragraph), and I could easily have done without the "pop" tunes (like Baby Elephant Walk and the Rugrats theme). In fact, it would have been very nice to listen to an album comprised of tracks chosen for their strong musical value rather than apparently for their box office and/or hit song popularity. But, to be fair, that may be precisely what draws some people to this CD set.
Film score music constitutes the single most significant body of classical music of our time. I hope some of these tracks will entice listeners to buy entire soundtracks and listen to some of these works as a whole.

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Packing List for Eternity.......2007-07-15
Friends, when I die, at an absolute minimum, please pack among my provisions for the journey, the following tracks from this album: Torture (1629).
Mercyful Fate - 'Dead Again' (Metal Blade).......2006-10-04
Fairly decent 1998 CD release from the Dutch black metal merchants. Still somewhat amazed they even ever reunited awhile back as they have. Better cuts found here are the somewhat humorous "The Lady Who Cries", "Banshee", the heavy-duty "Sucking Your Blood" and the 14-minute title track "Dead Again". Some have said that every member except for Diamond puts in a full-hearted effort in the making of this record. See what you think.Line-up: King Diamond-vocals,Hank Sherman&Mike Weed-guitars,Sharlee D'Angelo-bass and Bjarne T.Holm-drums. Maybe not a classic, but certainly no sleeper either.
May Actually Be Mercyful Fate's Best Record! .......2006-07-12
Giving you a brief rundown of where I stand, I thought "Beginning" and "Melissa" were good. I did NOT like "Don't Break the Oath." I thought "In the Shadows" defined the term 'major comeback.' "Time" was an interesting gentler side of Mr. Diamond. "Into the Unknown" was an uneven record, but it did have its moments. Well, on "Dead Again," guitarist Mike Denner was replaced with Mike Wead. (This leaves King Diamond and Hank Shermann as the only remaining original members.) While some people will obviously miss Mike Denner, Mike Wead actually fills the spot well, and the truth is, "Dead Again" may actually be Mercyful Fate's best record! This is arguably the strongest lineup Mercyful Fate had and King's vocals are in outstanding shape. 'Torture' is a powerful opener with frightening lyrics and a driving edge. 'The Night' has a dark tone made more prevalent by the guitar work. Songs of lost love are not too common on Mr. Diamond's records, but 'Since Forever' is a frighteningly well put together track that convincingly combines sorrow and rage. (On this song, the team work of Shermann and Wead is really prevalent.) 'The Lady Who Cries' is less intense, but it is still dark and haunting. On 'Banshee,' Mr. Diamond shows us yet again, that sometimes softer and more quiet = more eerie. 'Mandrake' is a good song that releases the tension for a moment. 'Sucking Your Blood' is a surprisingly frightening song that is told from the eyes of a vampire. The real terror begins with 'Dead Again.' Skillfully preceeded by some soft classical guitar, Mr. Diamond unleashes 13 minutes of different types of music unified by lyrics portraying someone wandering through different images of death, and of course Mr. Diamond's unusual talent for organization. As far as Hank Shermann and Mike Wead's guitar work, I can honestly say they may not get the kudos that Eddie Van Halen, Jim Hendrix, or Steve Vai get, but Shermann and Wead are the better guitarists. 'Fear' is an almost thrash song that follows 'Dead Again' as well as could have been expected. The record has a real intense and frightening end with 'Crossroads.' Shermann and Wead again show that this may be the best guitar tandem that King Diamond ever had. And of course King's vocals are unleashed full blast for this final track of terror. Generally, I try to understand the different opinions of others. But I honestly wonder how anyone could call this a weak record on Mercyful Fate's part. The lyrics, the music itself, King's vocals, and King's lineup, are all nothing short of phenomenal on this record. So much so, that not only is "Dead Again" arguably their best record, but it sounds like it was meant to be revenge on alternative, rapp, grunge, and sell outs. Don't be swayed by the negative revews. You will miss out on this record of intense musical terror!
Not their best, but still shreds! .......2005-12-17
All MF albums take quite a while to really get into, but this one took me particularly long. And judging by the low ranking this album gets, many others are not quite there yet and rated this album too soon. Although not as good as its predecessor Into The Unknown and its successor 9, this is still among the finest metal of the late 90s. Production is a bit more raw and dirty than on their other 90s albums and I like that. In The Shadows and 9 are better albums than this one, but they sound too polished. Dead Again has several amazing highlights: The Night and Banshee are among my favourite MF tunes. The Lady Who Cries and Crossroads are awesome too. Some tracks are so-so I admit, for instance Since Forever. For true MF fans however this is an album not to be missed. Better than Time and Return Of The Vampire.
"Dead Again".......2005-09-30
"Dead Again" is a tough album for this reviewer to critique. The legendary Mercyful Fate is up there as one of my top three favorite bands of all time and I must say that this is probably their weakest album. That being said, it still contains some truly powerful moments. "Torture (1629)" opens the album perfectly. A sinister little song about the trial and execution of a "witch". "Banshee" is an atmospheric, slower-paced number and vocalist King Diamond wails beautifully on it. The highlight of the entire album is probably "The Lady Who Cried". The song tells of a crying Virgin Mary statue that houses an evil force within. Excellent lyrics and superb instrumentals make this one a true gem. Another standout track is the highly personal "Fear", which finds Kim Bendix Petersen examining his stage persona, alter-ego King Diamond. Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't hold up quite as well. Songs like "The Night" and "Mandrake" aren't terrible, but they leave something to be desired. "Since Forever" and "Crossroads" are slightly better but there's not alot of magic or originality to them. The real bummer is "Sucking Your Blood" which sounds like nothing more than a demo, and a bad demo at that. And then we come to the title track. The band gets kudos for the experimental nature and stream of consciousness lyrical feel of it, but the tune pretty much falls flat. It's too long and rambling to have much of an effect. In conclusion, it must be said that although I consider this album to be the band's worst, it is by no means bad. To date, Mercyful Fate has never given us a subpar album. Even on the most mediocre tracks, the musicians provide us with some blistering guitar work, pounding drums and of course, marvelous vocals. To be completely honest, the worst that Fate might do is still far better than what's considered the "best" from other bands.

Customer Reviews:
One of my favorites.......2006-11-23
This CD has a mixture of pieces that would have been performed in a domestic setting, from secular/devotional songs to verse anthems, virginal music and viol consort. Many of the vocal pieces are found in Byrd's "Songs of Sundry Natures." I particularly enjoyed the verse anthems 'Have Mercy Upon Me, O God' and especially 'Christ Rising Again' which is probably the finest recording of that well-known anthem that I've ever heard. Red Byrd captures the domestic nature of these pieces, which is nothing like the typical ethereal cathedral boy soprano/Tallis Scholars type of performance that you would normally hear. They have a very earthy sound and the viol consort plays quite energetically. I also am a big fan of historical pronunciation which they use. And of course I can never get enough of Caroline Trevor's fantastic alto voice. As a result, I've bought every Red Byrd CD I can get my hands on. Do yourself a favor and pick up this bargain CD.
One of the best of all recordings of William Byrd.......2005-07-14
William Byrd is regarded by many as the greatest composer England has ever produced, as a kind of musical Shakespeare. He was certainly one of the greatest of the composers of the Seconda Prattica from around the period of the Reformation and Counter Reformation.
The collection of consort music here is simply superb. Pieces like 'John Kiss Me Now' remind us of the fact that variation form began in England around this time. All of the performances are as good as any I have yet to hear of Byrd's music and Naxos clearly scored something of a coup when managing to sign up this group for a recording like this. This would be equally highly recommendable for three times the price. Just look at the list of performers and you will even find Tesser Bonner of the Tallis Scholars listed here. Needless to say she sings beautifully too.
Perhaps my very favourite aspect of this recording is the fact that period pronounciation is used. While some may feel this to be pedantic, the rather quaint and rustic sounding Tudor English pronouciation in my mind only enhances the characterfulness of the pieces. I must say it puzzles me why even the likes of Emma Kirky insists on using modern English pronouciation when singing Byrd.
This is a hugely enjoyable CD and for the price it is a genuine steal that enhances the image of Naxos as a company dedicated to quality music making, that puts the giant multinational recording cooporations to utter shame. For that Naxos deserve our accolade and support.
Absolutely necessary for every fan of Classic music.......1999-02-19

The wonderfulness of Hagen.......2005-08-12
An absolute joy of a soundtrack from one of television's greatest (guilty?) pleasures. Composer Earle Hagen created brand-new music for each of I Spy's three-seasons-worth of episodes ... some 80 hours of television ... an amazing feat when other shows - even today - rely on just a few key musical cues. Here are half a dozen scores on 20+ tracks culled from eps throughout the series run (1965-1968). If you loved this series, or love big band or jazz, go for yourself and grab the CD.

Album Description
Ball of Design is a record full of anger and hope. Much darker, more epic, and undoubtedly more political than their last album, 1:3:1, Ball of Design features a more focused Dufusboth figuratively and literally. Dufus has gone from fifteen members to a fit five: Strictly Beats on drums, Rick on guitar, Marko on bass, Lucas Crane phd on analog arts (probably the best tape deck-ist in the universe) and mastermind Seth Faergolzia on vocals and guitar. This is hippie death metal that is changing the world.
On Ball of Design, Dufus choose to eschew some of their more wacky leaningsno jocks carrying dildos or more girl cops. Nope, this time you, the listener, are asked to forget all you think you know, about music, about your life, to "set aside your idiot for a minute" and pay attention to a great rock record.

Spirited jamming rock for open minds.......2005-03-26
Powerful ideas meld with street-level jamming. Big and chaotic, but still coherent and tribal-intimate. In other words, a fine balance of elements. The epic "Freedom" takes awhile to get off the ground before wielding and sustaining that power, but I take that as a metaphor for the title subject.
Seth Faergolzia is in the lead for this band of brothers, musical rainbow warriors lifting the discourse about what is worth fighting for.
All players bring a powerful presense to the noisiness = This is not randomly-made sound. Choices are made as they open up the performances and themselves to exciting possibilities beyond the performers' control. Sometimes what's beyond their control may at first seem to some ears as noise, but they limit -- or control, if you will -- the amount of what is beyond their control.
To sum up "Ball of Design": Universal themes are given unique expression. The album is like a fine home-brewed spirit that is all the more amazing for not having been mellowed for the larger marketplace.
I'd liken Dufus to what Polyphonic Spree would sound like if they were making a bloody, balls-out and ultimately beautiful racket.
Enhancing the musical experience, be prepared to encounter oddly-spelled words among the lyrics provided: If they were just misspelled, I'd be screaming bloody murder, but they're so persistent they provide a side stained window into Seth Faergolzia's mind. More insight at dufus.tv. And something I almost never experience, I fell in love with the inscrutable cartoons peppered in the album graphics.

Customer Reviews:
Land of the Mountain and Flood.......2001-08-29
"Land of the Mountain and the Flood" is Hamish MacCunn's best known work. The version on this cd is absolutely wonderful. This is one of the few cd's that focuses exclusively on MacCunn. It is wonderful to get to hear a selection of his other work. The cd includes excerpts from his opera Jeanie Deans. MacCunn emerges as an extremely gifted composer. The excessive Romanticism of some of these pieces is a bit alienating for me, but on the whole this cd is an excellent tribute to Scotland's greatest Romantic composer.
