Product Description
Majestic Vanguard have their roots in the early 90's. Andreas Andersson, and later his brother Samuel Andersson joined up with a rock outfit from Falkoping a small town in the south of Sweden. The drummer in the band was Daniel Eskilsson. This was the first meeting between them. Some years later, Daniel, Samuel and Andreas were meeting accidentally in Falköping. They felt that their passion for "metal" was still burning, and decided to begin to play together again. The following years, they had to fight pretty hard to survive for private reasons. In September 2004 Johan Abelson joined on second guitar, and they decided to change the band's name to Majestic Vanguard. "Beyond The Moon" finally was recorded between March and June 2005 at Studio X in Falköping, Sweden, and produced by Daniel Eskilsson. Metal Heaven. 2005.

Queen of Songs.......2007-07-29
I received this CD 'San Fracisco and other Jeanette MacDonald Favorites' a few days ago and have listened to it carefully several times. She is about a generation before my time; so far I have seen only two pictures of her: 'San Francisco' and 'The Merry Widow'. In San Francisco, I discovered she can also sing opera successfully to some degree As for The Merry Widow, I much prefer the later version performed by Lana Turner and Fernando Lamas although Turner didn't sing by herself in the film and Lamas is a lot more convincing than Maurice Chevalier as a Casanova type beau; to be truthful, I can't stand grandpa Chevalier. I beleive I also saw another of her movie which she played quite late in her career because she played mother to Jane Powell, this one I saw in the theater in my teenage days, for your information, I saw almost every MGM musicals in those heyday years. Unfortunately though, I don't quite remember the story of it, but I do remember vaguely that MacDonald sang Un bel di from Puccini's Madama Butterfly and when she sang she formed her mouth so beautifully that one could forget it if she didn't sing well.
One thing I can assert with confidence is that MacDonald is a very beautiful lady oozes with glamour, and is very classy. Classiness was a very prominent and widespread quality of female stars in that era, Lana Turner who played the wealthy merry widow was just one case. If I were to make a list it would occupy a full page, nowadays, it would be impossible to name just three or four female stars with class, no offense, please. Now let me come back to the main subject that is MacDonald's art of singing. Well, she certainly has good vocal technigue, her high note is firm to the very top and she is able to sustain it for a considerable duration as she has displayed quite often in this disc. The voice itself is delicate and sweet, just like her person. However, she tends to sing with monotone which make her singing sounds bland, like no. 4, Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life, may be if she move a notch down the scale it would sound more pleasant. Songs My Mother Taught Me is just about the only song she successfully sings with feelings. Here, I would like to point out that a few songs are worth repeated listenings: Ciribiribin, The Donkey Serenade, Italian Street Song, and of course, Songs My Mother Taught Me.
Songs no. 16 to 22, I'm sorry to say that they are not up to my standard, I have been listening to opera singing for over thirty years you know. I must mention here that MacDonald's French seems very good, I don't know French though, nevertheless, I can tell just by listening
Queen of Songs is a title crowned her by the Chinese people in that time, she was indeed highly esteemed.
Jeanette MacDonald Favorites.......2007-05-13
This CD is an incredible testimony and celebration of an American Master Singer.
A must have for all. An introduction to quality and good taste for a new generation of music lovers.
A MUST for any Jeanette fan!.......2006-04-25
This CD is a gem! The songs included on it are beautiful and show off MacDonald's incredible voice. The best part of this CD, however, is the sound quality. Unlike many of her other recordings, and those featuring her with frequent costar Nelson Eddy, the sound on this CD is pristine, and you can barely tell the recordings are 50+ years old!
Jeanette MacDonald Was Unique.......2001-03-12
It really doesn't matter whether or not she could sing; Jeanette MacDonald was unique. On these old recordings, her voice sounds thin and watery, and contemporary tastes do not respond so readily to the sentimentality and predictability of her movies. But she was a gracious lady and glittering presence on the silver screen. These film songs do suggest the excitement she generated when her movies first appeared. And how many truly major singers she inspired! Joan Sutherland recalled meeting MacDonald a few years before her death. Said Sutherland: "I still had stars in my eyes."
An excellent demonstration of Jeanette MacDonald's artistry.......1998-12-18
The highlights of this Jeanette MacDonald CD include her excellent singing of Delibes' "Les Filles de Cadiz," the Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria," and the "Jewel Song" from "Faust." A much-underrated artist, MacDonald proves here that she can handle a wide range of music, from concert songs and opera arias to familiar tunes from her operetta films. Particularly fine are her renditions of "Only a Rose," and Herbert's "Romany Life" (in spite of an amateurish male chorus). Highly recommended not only as a tribute to filmdom's first lady of song, but also to listeners who enjoy both opera and musical comedy.

AWESOME.......2006-11-11
I got this for my grand daughter and decided to open it un and listen it to it before I sent it to her. I loved it so much that I kept this copy for myself and bought another one for her. I also bought one to give as a baby shower gift! The songs and music on these CD's are just so nice! I find them VERY relaxing and peaceful. I think this should be a must for every baby. My grand daughter loves it. It immediately calms down a fussy baby. You can't put a price on that!
Calming and Soothing for your little love.......2005-05-19
I love this CD collection. My son loves to cuddle and listen to soothing and dulcet tones of the author reading the story. By the second track he is getting drowsy and by 5th one, the eyes are closed. It's the only CD that keeps him entertained till he falls asleep in the crib. The other CD's are great at stopping cranky moods. I don't know what it is about this collection but it's just made for little ears!

Customer Reviews:
"Eloquent, Exquisite, Exciting".......2004-08-18
"Dreamer" is unquestionably the finest recording of original songs by black composers available today. The singing of tenor, Darryl Taylor is superb and demonstrates a vocal beauty, musicianship, and interpretive sensitivy that is rarely equaled. The selection of poems of poet laureate, Langston Hughes is first rate, and even more important, the songs themselves are original, varied and well written. I think every listener will find "Dreamer" an exciting musical experience, and I predict for Darry Taylor a distinguished career as an interpreter of art songs. For the Naxos price, buy two albums and give one to a friend!
A Gem!.......2002-10-17
This collection is a gem! Langston Hughes was a very "musical" poet who was inspired by a variety of forms, from jazz to classical. His poetry in turn inspired a whole generation of composers, thirteen of whom are represented here in fifteen art songs. Additionally, eight Hughes poems are read by William Warfield.

Intelligent mood music........2006-03-29
For some reason, the ambiance of this album is what stays with me the most. It gives you the feeling of a cool drive down the western coast, nights in the mountians, misty mornings or (ironically an often venue for James) a hip coffee shop. Although it is appropriate for any occasion. James' great imagination is definately on display. The Sun & The Moon is ever-filled with James' flourishes of atmosphere and story. I think James' guitar mastery has been spoken for but the key highlight on this album is his acoustic guitar work but most of all, emphasis (as usual) on the songs. And great, finely-tuned pieces they indeed are. We get off to a great start from the delightful opening track, to the... well, dreamy "In my Dreams." I personally adore "One Man Woman" (I challenge you not start tapping or snapping) it is irrisitable. I cannot comment on "One Fine Day" since the spouting of such positive sentiments would cause my bitter little head to implode. Okay, I kid. That would be an inside joke. "One Fine Day" is a tune that one cannot stop playing... when they're in a GOOD mood is all I'm saying. "Whisper" is an NPR-played well-known classic seen on the previous album, although the production is much more clear on this one. The wonderful eccentricity of "London Bridge" (Freebo on TUBA!) The romance of "You and Me" and wistfulness of "Time Will Fly." Another highlight for me is the powerful yet subtle "Together" all wrapped up tightly with the sentiment of "Here and Now." James truly takes you on a journey. So take a nice drive and pop in this CD, I can't think of anything better.

another high quality melodic metal release.......2006-03-21
My title just about says it all. If you are into Sonata Artica, without as much sonic speed, Edguy, or even Rob Rock solo albums you will like this. Crunchy riffs, melodic breakdowns, a singer who can hold his own and production that is not too slick. They are signed to Rivel Records which is owned by Chrisian Rivel of Narnia and Divinefire as well as others so you know you are getting quality. (you should be checking out Divinefire now!) A good start for this band, let's hope they can continue to improve from here.

The beauty of subtlety in density.......2006-04-15
A blizzard is conjured, a crystal sheet penetrating the darkness, glistening with strength. The strength of your ancestors, your people, as you and they become one with the Earth. You are a warrior, and you will die honourably, at peace with yourself and with your world. You will wait for the storms.
Ah, this is a beauty - one to which I can't hope to do justice with mere words. Ambient, pulsing rhythms reminiscent of a ship rocking on stormy seas. Folk-tinged melodies vary subtly against a blanket of white noise which dominates the CD. Rhythmically driven by the drums which throb broodingly in the background. Vocals aren't prominent either - deep, lengthy growls, adding an extra layer of darkness and rhythm to the music. The album closes with a reflective Celtic tune which is very aptly named "Celtic Harp Solo", having opened with an ominous piano piece. In addition, the production is excellent.
In a way similar to the very best of Burzum and Sacramentum, Aeternus succeed at disconnecting the listener and transporting them to an unexplored world with endless possibilities.
Powerful, dark metal.......2002-10-05
A very solid, individual album. While I certainly wouldn't call it "black metal" (the band calls themselves "dark metal"), it is certainly along the same lines, with the average lyric being a rather deep deathy growl, on occasions rising to shrieks. The atmosphere changes from song to song, and they actually play some songs in a major key, which I must say is a novelty with most of the "darker" metal. Definitely a solid buy for those looking for something different than your average black metal album, but still retaining the same rough feel. The celtic harp solo at the end is great touch too, I might add.
Aeternus' Debut, "Beyond the Wandering Moon".......1999-09-26
"Beyond the Wandering Moon" is the Aeternus' first studio full length album, a follow up to their extremely rare to find ep, "Dark Sorcery". "Dark Sorcery" is the band's classic first appearance, however, this album is a vast improvement in all areas including song writing, vocals, production, and so on. There is a greater similarity between "Beyond..." and "so the night became", therefore my suggestion is to pursue both these titles equally. Probably the most magnificant composition of "Beyond.." would be track 6, "vind", a gripping and enpowering tribute to one of the four most dear forces of nature. Guest backing vocals are provided by Svartlav and are a fitting antithesis to Ares' lower pitched roars. This album concludes with the typical Aeternus ending, an enchanting acoustic passage, entitled, "the Last Feast" which is technically a cover of a thousand year old celtic song. I emplore you to obtain this album....
