5 out of 5 stars A good value.......2007-05-17

I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.

4 out of 5 stars The Sound Track Since Bernard Hermann.......2006-07-25

This collection is bound to capture your heart and evoke a tin ear on successive tracks. I found much to like and some duds - easy to skip over.
Very good value.

4 out of 5 stars Good mix of film music.......2006-07-02

Good mix of films!
I'm a big fan of this soundtrack music and will be looking for more CD's like this.

4 out of 5 stars A mixed collection of movie music.......2006-02-23

For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Uplifts your soul, takes your mind into the heavens.......2006-01-06

I have been listening to great scores for many years and this collection is truly inspirational in so far as the choice of different scores takes you on a journey of listening pleasure matched by only a few collections. The price is incredibly reasonable for hours of listening pleasure. Don't pass this one up

2 out of 5 stars A real dead one for sure.......2006-04-26

The band sounds like they're just going through the motions most of the time. If I saw a video of this I'd half expect them to glance at their watches from time to time, wondering when they can wrap it up and go home. The sound quality is terrrible too, the bass is far too heavy and the treble is too piercing. The album does however contain a very good version of Sancutary. A Real Live One was much better than this.

4 out of 5 stars Better than Rock in Rio (four and a half stars).......2005-12-05

This and "Live at Donington Park" are better than the "Rock in Rio" CD. Rock in Rio is really good but the sound quality in the mixing is not the same. It is ironic to me that people would comment that the sound quality on Real Dead One and Live at Donington are not good and that Rock in Rio is the better. Dikinson's vocals come through clearer on most of the songs than they do on Rock in Rio and the mix has more bass. Also, Janick Gers does not butcher the solos. He plays them slightly differently, and while Adrian Smith may be the more technical and good with the Michael Schenker style pentatonic scale, Gers is a faster player overall and has a cleaner tone. I even like this and Live at Donington over "Live After Death". I find the songs are played faster and Dickinson's vocal come through clearer in the mix and he sings better in the early 90's and even today than he did in the 80's. I am like the above reviewer, I have all the Maidens and these two are like rare gemstones. If I had to pick one of the two I would likely give the nod to "Live at Donington", however, because this has Transylvania and Where Eagles Dare, I would pick this up also.

5 out of 5 stars Scream for me Helsinki!!!.......2005-05-08

In my opinion, this is Maiden's second best live album, (Live After Death is the best). Even though there's no Adrian Smith, the basic point is that you're getting all early material being performed in various cities during the FEAR OF THE DARK tour.

My favorite aspect of this cd is that you get Bruce doing Paul DiAnno songs on "Prowler," "Running Free," "Remember Tomorrow," and "Iron Maiden." You also get a fast live version of "Transylvania," which has nasty solos all over the place performed by Dave Murray and Janick Gers. The high point is "Hallowed be thy Name." I've been a Maiden fan for a long time, and I think this is the best recording EVER of this song. Bruce holds the 'low' from "The sands of time for me are running low"...he holds that note for an eternity and Dave Murray tosses in a subtle 'hammer-on/pull-off' run during it.

The mix on this recording is also top-notch. The guitar harmonies are right on, but unlike other live Maiden, both guitarists are loud when it comes time to solo. There's other live Maiden, namely "Maiden England" that has a bad mix and one of the guitarists ends up getting drowned out by the other.

If you're new to Maiden, I definitely recommend this disc for an introduction to early material. If you're already a fan and you don't own this, then shame on you!

i thought this cd was pretty darn good, the sound quality was decent,a little raw at times but that added to the live sound, i really enjoy the songs that were selected for this cd they are pre 1985, a nice companion for the live cd "a real live one" which is also really good

4 out of 5 stars STOP PANNING THIS ALBUM!!!!.......2007-02-02

Okay, I'm going to make this short and sweet. No, this is not Maiden's best live recording. No, this is definitely not Dickenson's best performance. But you know what? They have so many friggin' live cds, it's hard to be the best and this still sounds good enough for me. Why would you give a 1 star to a maiden album with all their classics just because it's not perfect? This is just dumb to review it at that. With all this said, this is a great recording but probably is only for die-hard maiden fans like myself. If you really only want 1 live Maiden album, I would go to the Donnington CD. You can't go wrong there.

1 out of 5 stars A Real Bad One.......2005-07-07

I bought this CD, and after hearing how bad the sound quality was on this live recording, I got rid of it. The argument about this being a live recording is paltry at best. Just because a band records a live album does not mean they should release bad sound quality. Anyone who knows anything about music knows that live recording is about the band performance, recording mix, and the final mastering done in the studio. I've heard audience recordings sound better than this mess released by Maiden. To coincide with Bruce Dickinson's final tour with Iron Maiden, the band issued two live recordings, A REAL LIVE DEAD ONE, and A REAL DEAD ONE. In fact, the two "Dead One" live releases have the worst sound quality of any released live recording by any band, and this is from a band that released "Maiden Japan" and "Live After Death." The band doesn't sound as inspired as it does on its previous live collections.

5 out of 5 stars Hype from Live After Death too tough act to follow.......2005-06-16

This album is underrated and Iron Maiden is awesome. Bruce Dickinson sounds fine, so does Janick Gers and the sound quality.

5 out of 5 stars A great Maiden set! .......2005-05-25

I've read a lot about how the sound quality is poor and the singer isn't singing up to par etc etc, but I have to say, I'm extremely pleased with this CD. I love live CDs in general, and while this CD set isn't polished, it doesn't really have to be. It's live. Part of the fun of listening to a live CD is escaping the overproduced sounds of studio recordings for something more raw, but still enjoyable, and I think A Real Live Dead One fits the bill.

The track list is good, despite missing a song or two that I'd have liked to have had on here, and despite what others might say, I think the music volume is blended nicely with the vocals. This CD really gives off that live show aura while providing good quality to the songs we know and love.

Don't be closed minded about this CD... give it a chance!

5 out of 5 stars The best maidenalbum ever...........2004-12-03

A real Dead one was the first livealbum from Maiden I ever listened to. It was a cheap EMI-tape that a friend of mine lend to me. At first I was confused, 'cause I could hardly make up anything from the songs. The sound was so rough and so unlike what I was used to from maiden (Fear of the dark was the only album I had at the time). But contrary to all those who hate this rough sound I still love it up to this very day! The demolike touch gives this band the opportunity to prove that their songs are actually better live than on the record. This is not some metalband gone pop (I know you'll hate me for this, but maiden produced a lot of albums with a damnright "popfeeling"). Bruce's voice sounds angry, ripped up even, the guitars are sharp and play a f*cking lot faster than on any maidenalbum, Steve Harris put his bass up-front during the mixing, which gives the sound a full and darker touch than ever before. Just listen to "where eagles dare"! This sounds better than anything they've ever put out, or listen to the melancholy in Bruce's voice during the refrain of "2 minutes to midnight"? I've never ever heard a better version of this song either.

A real live one left me with pretty much the same feeling, more metallish, stronger, angryer, etc...

A couple of years ago I bought myself "live at donington" and "live after death", but recently I've sold them all, together with all my other maidenalbums (I had their entire catalogue), but there's no way, I'm ever going to sell "a real live on" or "a real dead one", and you lucky [...] can buy these beauties in a 2-cd set, get your hands on it I would say!

4 out of 5 stars Maiden Rocks!.......2003-05-10

This first CD blows my mind! It is a better line up than Rock in Rio!! It has a real live sound to it. Yes it sounds different from studio recordings, but it's supposed to. I think this first CD and all its hits are greatly played...better than the studio recordings. The second CD is a littly sketchy. Some good songs on there like "Be Quick or Be Dead" and "Fear of the Dark", but i think they could've added a little more taste to it. A Real Live Dead One shows Iron Maiden's heavy metal side, but its weaker side( the weaker side be very small). I am a HUGE Maiden fan...trust me if u liked Rock in Rio...you'll Love this!

3 out of 5 stars Not Great ,Not Louzy,Just prety Good........2002-01-06

This CD has the same tracks as "Donnington" with a few extras(read track listing).I wish thse guys would put out a live record with dome different songs, one's they have not released yet like "Caught Somewhere in time" and "T.L.O.T. Long distance Runner." Alot of people Have a problem with the production on this CD but I dont.It sounds fine to me but it could be these THX Speakers though (lol). My problem is that it is just a bunch of live songs recorded at different dates. It does not flow like "Donnington" and "Live After Death." Plus they mess with your mind by Putting a photo from the "seventh Son" tour on the back with adrian even though Adrian does not pick one note on this entire record. Not that I'm one of those Janick Gers Bashers,But I do like adrian better when I am listening to CD's Janick has a better stage presence than Adrian no doubt about it."Live after Death" and "Donnington " are better but this is not bad,and you need it to finish your eddie face...Up The Irons!!!

2 out of 5 stars Could have Been alot better........2001-10-30

I like the CD because it has a few songs that are not on on "Live after Death" But The production is poor...The drums are drownded out you can realy only hear Nicos Snare when he is playing beats. It is like he has no bass drum,You can barley hear the rest of the kit when he does fills.THis was very disapointing to me because Nico is one of my favorite rock drummers...the bass is way to loud as if Harris was trying to say "watch me play"...and Even Bruce's VOX seem a bit off.Gears Butchers Adrians solos...he just plays too fast.It is just not the same live experence that the great "Live After Death " is....but it does have a few tunes that Live After Death does not have...so I guess this CD is worth picking up....I guess :(

3 out of 5 stars Half good, other half...well..........2001-08-25

I see that this is being sold as a two CD set now. I bought these two as individual CDs when they first were released. "Real Dead One" has a different cover, a Derrick Riggs "Eddie" as a DJ at 666 Studios or something. Anyway, for years I've always felt that "Dead One" rocks and "Live One" falls flat. "Dead One", despite the title, is much more lively. The band sounds more energized, the song selection is much better, and the production is even (slightly) better. Granted, it's no "Live After Death", but it's a worthy addition to any Maiden fan's collection. "Live One", on the other hand, it downright bad (as in NOT GOOD). The song selection focuses on No Prayer For The Dying ("Tailgunner", "Bring Your Daughter") and Fear of the Dark ("Be Quick", "From Here to Eternity", "Wasting Love", etc.), probably Maiden's two weakest albums. The band sounds very tired on "Live One". The only saving grace of "Live One" is the live version of "Fear of the Dark". Not only is it one of Maiden's best later-day songs, this version actually rivals the studio version. Overall, if you could buy just "Dead One" alone, it wouldn't be a bad deal, but having to buy "Live One" too sinks this package considerably. 3 stars for "Dead One" and the song "Fear of the Dark".

1 out of 5 stars [BAD] LIVE ALBUM.......2001-07-25

I don't even know how EMI let these albuns to be released ... Steve Harris mad one of the worst ever productions jobs for a heavy metal band. The sound is atrocious, the songs seem to be played by a garage cover band. Janick is in his usual low form, nothing new here. The suprise came with the inclusion of "BRING YOUR DAUGHTER.." ( what on Earth Maiden' musicians saw in this awful tune ??!!?), the terrible mixing, the lack of energy from the band ( or maybe the mixing didn't capture it, I don't know), etc, etc. Thanks God Adrian Smith is back !!

Check it out! He actually hits the notes in Run to the Hills!
It's rough in spots (Bruce forgets some words in Where Eagles Dare) but it's not a bad CD. It's good that they separated this one from the Real Live One, because his voice isn't as good in that CD. Real Iron Maiden fans will enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars get over it.......1999-10-13

ok if you want a great album buy a studio recording but if you want a raw rocking alubum then you get live not studio ok so if you think that it sounds crappy get over it go listen to kid rock you wannabes

4 out of 5 stars Raw, Live and Loud....Maiden fans could not ask for more........1999-07-16

This release is not as bad as what the previous reviewers wrote. It has classic songs that every one remembers. Check it out, you should have no complaints.

5 out of 5 stars its really good.......1999-04-23

no one should diss this album because its simply wut it is..a "raw" live recording. its presents maiden with a certain "rawness" that makes it great. it lacks some of the classics...but it carries many of the essentials. some of the recordings are even better than "live after death" which isnt really maiden @ their best anyway.

2 out of 5 stars A Real Crappy Recording.......1999-04-02

As the last reviewer said, there are some great songs on this CD, but the recording quality is really bad. If you want to hear Maiden live, get Live After Death. This CD is put to better use as a frisbee, however. I suspect that when vocalist Bruce Dickinson quit the band, the rest of Maiden decided to milk him for all he was worth to delay hiring a new singer. This album, along with the other live album released around the same time, A Real Live One, was the result. It's actually an insult to the fans to release a low quality recording like this, so don't waste your money on it.
