Crisis are from New York, and they produce a manic hurricane of sound. You've probably never heard another metal band that sounds like this: death metal chopcore with a vocalist who sounds alternately possessed, like Sinead O'Connor, and like Yoko Ono. If the dearth of females fronting death metal bands has ever bothered you, Caryn Crisis's performance on Deathshead Extermination will certainly be the answer to your hopes and dreams. Crisis push the boundaries of this particular genre further than just about any other group I've heard. The songs are rarely predictable, and the production (by Steve McCallister and guitarist Afzaal Nasiruddeen) will flatten you. Just when it seems as if metal has effectively reached all possible extremes, a band like Crisis comes along and shakes everything up. Deathshead Extermination is a brutal, beautiful album that offers another dimension of head-splitting chaos and noise. --Adem Tepedelen

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.........2004-06-08

"Deathshead Extermination" is one of my favorite albums, & was my first taste of Crisis. Karyn's vocals were unlike anything I'd ever heard; so raw, and ravaging, intense, and full of emotion. Crisis is like pure musicial carnage, which ironically leaves me with such a great feeling. If you like this, you should check out their other albums, especially their newest, "Like Sheep Led To Slaughter"!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing..........2003-12-16

Its amazing that a band with this much talent and originality, not to mention style, are as seemingly unknown as them. Starting with Karyn: not just the best extreme metal vocalist, she's one of the best vocalists of any genre, period. It doesn't matter that she's a woman, she's still incredible. The guitar riffs are catchy and inventive. They create atmosphere as well as drive the songs. The drums never miss a beat, and never fail to give the song a pulse. The lyrics are grotesquely beautiful. Over all, you can't be disappointed with it.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Best Creative Band.......2003-11-15

This band has amazing sound and unbelievable vocals. The singer will change from a whisper to a shriek to a growl to a scream- in 5 seconds!! Lyrics are awesome, and their style is very unique- will recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of metal and female vocals. Listening to their songs brings visions of art and pain, love and mistrust. It's entertainment for your soul.

5 out of 5 stars Ah, the days back when..........2003-07-15

Not so much a critique as a personal experience:

i saw Crisis on their tour supporting this album. i was demolished. i remember my jaw falling open and staring like an idiot as Karyn took stage and proceeded to rip my brains through the top of my skull. Yes, melodramatic, but i clearly remember this. And i bought the CD at the show and got Karyn to sign it. We talked for a few minutes (with my buddy who knew ahead of time what was in store but let me be surprised) about the music, the artwork, and at the time she was working on a graphic novel (anyone know if it was ever completed/released?). This CD was in heavy rotation for me for a long time. It still gets a well-deserved spin pretty often.

5 out of 5 stars This deserves 10 stars out of 5.......2002-04-19

Karyn Crisis is the most brilliant and origional vocalist that has EVER existed! She has a wide variety of screams, growls, and roars. Her origionality blows me away! Buy the Cd that features the most origional vocalist that has ever existed!
