Customer Reviews:
A good live production.......2006-10-02
You got to have this if you're a real Maiden fan. It's a great live production with the main hits and some others like Heaven Can Wait etc. Of course, it can't compare with Live After Death..but then again what can?
Makes You Feel Like You're There!.......2006-05-21
From the moment you hear this album, it flat out rocks! THe raw energy of Iron Maiden is still there, even if they had a depressing last two albums. (Which are actually some of their best albums. Maiden never had a low point.) The exitement of this live performance makes you feel like you're actually in the crowd that night. Not only that, but the song list is everything i've wished for, (but not better than the set list in A Real Dead One. You can't beat that.) But overall this is a solid live album, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
UP THE IRONS!
A very enjoyable live disc.......2006-01-31
This is a very enjoyable live album. All of the songs are nice to hear, the only problem is: Bruce Dickinson doesn't seem to get to the right heights on some of the songs. He can't sing as high as before. That's why he let's the crowd sing, I guess. What is funny is the talking during the songs, nice accent :P. My favorites of this live album are Hallowed Be Thy Name, Heaven Can Wait and Bring Your Daughter... ...To The Slaughter!!!! I recommend this album to people who already have some experience with Iron Maiden on a live album, Live After Death is better if you want your first live album.
Keep On Rocking!!!
I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHY........2004-08-08
I just do not know why everyone hates this one. I personally don't find anything wrong with it. By this time Iron Maiden matured in their playing and Janick Gers is about as underrated as the Grateful Dead.(the best band ever) This one even has better sound than A Real Live Dead One which is about as underrated as Paul Di'Anno.(Maiden's best singer). When I first got into Iron Maiden, this is the first album I wanted, but when I was in Walmart (CURSE THAT NAME FOREVER) I could'nt find it so I had to settle for Number of the Beast. I've heard that the enhanced version of this album even has about 4 or 5 videos on it!! Get this, Up the irons, and tell others how it's so underrated or I'll sick EDDIE on you!!!!!!!

An excellent concert. Timeless overtures........2003-12-27
It's a waste of time being harking on about this CD too much, but one of the greatest guitarists ever, Uli Jon Roth shows all the speed and heartless players how the guitar is mean't to be played. Pure bliss.
Michael Schenker Is On This Album !!!.......2003-05-10
How much would you pay to hear Uli Jon & The Mad Axeman duel it out on the UFO classic "Doctor, Doctor"? Whatever your answer is, it's not enough, because much of the music on this disc is priceless. If you have the Scorpion's "Tokyo Tapes" & UFO's "Strangers In The Night" on vinyl then you know where I'm coming from. Come on....you add Jack Bruce, Phil Mogg, Pete Way & the previously mentioned Schenker and what else would you expect.
Uli Jon's guitar switches gears from Hendrix inspired playing on songs like "Little Wing" to Clapton's riffs on "Sunshine Of Your Love" without breaking a sweat. The quality of the recording is really very, very good; all the instruments and vocals are very clear throughout. The only minor beef I have is Uli's playing on some of the UFO tunes; he assumes the role of rhythm guitarist with very little lead playing. After listening to those songs numerous times, however, my personal opinion is he just can't keep up with Michael (and not many can). But holy cr@p, when this album gets to the last few tracks, you better have at least 200 watts of power to do this recording justice.
If your a fan of 70's metal and remember how rock music used to be played, you owe yourself this cd.
Classics are timeless.......2002-12-07
When listening to this fabulous live album, i realize how sad and mediocre the present music panorama is. When classics do their best, there's no possible comparison... No present musicians make you feel like this album, in which there're superb moments, not of guitar heroes being the fastest fingers, but of truly artistic top moments. Guitars mix of Roth and Schenker in Doctor doctor and the final jam are absolutely awesome, along with Cream's, UFO's, and Hendrix's classics. One of the best live albums in the last years...
legends of rock kick a**.......2002-12-06
the cd recorded live at donnington is a classic cd of songs from jon uli roth and jack bruce and ufo. uli plays on every cut on this cd. having uli and michael schenker playing together on ufo classic "rock bottom" and"doctor doctor" are intsant classic live recordings . my fav track is uli doing along the watchtower nad the amazing ten min ute jam with michael schenker and jack bruce called fireworks jam

Customer Reviews:
Not the best place to start with Saxon.......2006-06-10
Good points- It captures Saxon at aruably their very freshest point, after the Wheels Of Steel album.
Bad points- the sound quality is so bad that frankly I'm a bit surpsised that it was releasewd in this state. To anyone not familiar to Saxon the songs might just seem like a muffled nosie coming from the stage a lot of the time. I have a high end hi fi and even with headphones it's sometimes difficlut to make out exactly what's going on, especially on the closer Machine Gun. I's such and intnese song on the album, and it must have been incredible onstage at Donnington, but it sounds like someone brought a cheap tape recorder to the show and recorded the set with the tape recorder stuffed under 5 pillows.
I give the bands performance 5 stars, but sorry, this CD itself has such a poor bootleg quality that I can't really recommend it and I give it 2 stars.
A true lost gem of the 80's new wave of heavy metal........1999-02-22
Saxon at Donnington is a great representation of the new wave of british heavy metal that began in the eighties. There is no doubt that Saxon, along with other bands (Motorhead /Iron Maiden), led the way and influenced a generation that followed. To see Saxon live was a breath taking event that I personally witnessed on several occassions. They are the unsung metal heroes of the eighties that many bands, such as Metallica, even credit as a very important influence. The quality of this release is marred only because it sounds as if this recording had been shelved for so long. Obviously forgotten and that is unfortunate for listeners. It would have been worth the expense for the label of this CD to have spent a little added time to clean up this recording with the convience of modern 1990's technology. Otherwise this is a stellar performance by one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time. If you are a true metal fan you should own this for the point that it is Saxon! The oddity of this disc is a track called "Bap Shoo Ap" which, as far as I know, is not on any Saxon album from that time period. Also, track 10 indicates "backstage interviews" but curiously there are no interviews. My guess is this CD might have been rushed, which explains sound quality and fair packaging. But any true metal fan will still appreciate the passion in Saxon's powerful performance.

One of the best Heavy Metal LIVE album ever!.......2007-01-19
"Live at Donnington" is one of the most greatest live album in Metal History. The sound is perfect and the whole atmosphere places you between the fans in the frontline! Raw power!!!
A superb performance by Iron Maiden with exceptional tracks from their greatest period that they don't use to play anymore.
"Live at Donnington" was first released as bootleg but soon became classic and the band was actually forced to officially release the album!
Rock, Metal (and not only) fans should NOT miss it! Top quality!
Maiden in top form to a home crowd.......2006-04-20
Yep, this is Maiden at their best. Though by this time they'd released a few dud studio albums this band were still one of the flagships of metal, their heritage not totally destroyed (they'd do that from here on in themselves).
In short, the first disc is utterly vital stuff. The second disc isn't so flash and the formula starts to wear a little thin. I cannot bring myself to point out too many of the awesome tracks on disc one but Wrathchild and Number of the Beast are so great that they have to merit a mention.
Bruce is in fine voice, the band rip and the English crowd, at a Monsters of Rock gig no less, really adds to the atmosphere. As an aside to this review - the video of this gig ain't half bad either.
The only bad points would be for those punters who don't like live albums or who have some of Maidens other live discs. And yes Steve Harris' bass sound running roughshod over everything is a little grating on some of the tracks.
Any Maiden fan should buy this album. Just stop reading this review and place your darn order!
Another live album from maiden..........2004-09-07
This album is one of many live albums from Iron Maiden, personally I think they are a great live band, and Im sure many people agree and thats why they have put so many live records on the market. This one in particular is not their best, the sound is not good, Bruce doestn sound as good as he really is and the songs they play are the ones they always play live. The interactive section is cool, and I would have to agree with the other reviewer that this is what saves this album. If you only get the record for the music, then its not worth it, at least the artwork is great, it comes with many pictures and also with the lyrics, but in the end not Maidens best work, they shouldnt have release this one.
Disc two saves album.......2002-09-09
Live at Donington is a twenty track, double disc replica of the limited edition vinyl collection. It has some great songs such as Iron Maiden, Run to the Hills, The Number of the Beast,Fear of the Dark, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Heaven Can Wait, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Tailgunner, and Running Free. I'd normally give this four stars at max. because its hard to hear Bruce singing among the wailing guitars, but the multimedia section is really cool. It has ful length vidoes of, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Iron Maiden, Hallowed Be Thy Name, and Heaven Can Wait. It then has three other videos that cover excerpts from Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast, and Be Quick or Be Dead. If you don't have the requirements for the viewing the multimedia than you might want to buy this at your own risk
