like no other group. GOLD is the best essence of ABBA. It has the best of the best sans Summer Night City, which is on the subsequent More Gold. Their only pop rivals in sales were The Bee Gees and the enormously huge pop/disco group Boney M. Relative unknowns in the US. Check them out. Not so much Abba sounding, but if you like good melodies and irresistable hooks, great purchase. Another big, but short-lived pop group was Clout. Much more like Abba. Highly recommended.
Better music.......2007-06-27 I have tried to get some of thier CDs for some time but this CD was worth the wait, sounds are great and are a "sing along with" mode, great CD.
One of the best Swedish imports.......2007-05-24 Abba's Greatest Hits lives up to its title. This is an excellent comp album. All of the hits are here [I am just old enough to remember Abba's heyday]. This is a very good, very well-rounded collection of Abba's recordings. There's not a lame song on here. The album can be listened to straight through without ever being tempted to hit the skip button. Simply some of the best pop music ever, not just from the 70s. Abba was a bright spot of the 70s, countering a bad presidency and wicked gas prices. Hmmmm, we have those back again, come to think of it. Where's our Abba?
Make sure this is what you're looking for........2007-05-16 Abba was a pretty prolific and popular group in the 70s. For those of us familiar with ABBA, this album is great. Those who aren't might want to give this a try. You've probably heard some of their tunes before without even realizing it was ABBA. Note that there is another greatest hits collection called the Definitive Collection. It's a 2 disc set that contains everything on this album, some lesser hits and a remix or two as well. For the die hard fan you might want to check into the Definitive Collection (or the Complete Studio Collection for you ABBA freaks out there). For the passing fan like myself, all of the great stuff is here.
Awesome.......2007-04-12 This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by ABBA. It starts off with a great 1-2 punch of "Dancing Queen" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You". The hits just keep on coming, "Waterloo", "Gimmie a Man After Midnight", "Voules Vouz", "Fernando", "SOS", "I Had a Dream". There are a couple songs I wish were on here like "People Need Love", "If It Wasn't for the Night" and Frida's solo hit "I Know There's Something Going On".

On the cover of Foreigner's newest collection, the letters that spell out Complete Greatest Hits are cut out from world currency. For example, there's an A from Antarctica, a T from Trinidad, an M from Mongolia, and so on. At least the drive behind this third greatest-hits compilation (fourth, if you count The Best of Foreigner Live) is clearly admitted. Still, if anyone deserves your money, an argument can be made for guitarist Mick Jones and singer Lou Gramm. They've been through it all, and along the way, they've written a slew of songs you know well enough to perform at karaoke (but never as well, admittedly--Lou has a hell of a voice). Whether you liked them when they rocked ("Cold as Ice," "Hot Blooded," "Juke Box Hero") or preferred the power ballads they were credited with inventing ("Waiting for a Girl Like You," "I Want to Know What Love Is"), this album makes it feel like the very first time again. --Laura Etling

Kind of Cheesy.......2007-07-04 I was just a so-so fan but thought that buying the collection might make me into an avid fan. Not so. The tunes are original and kind of catchy, but frankly the production quality is low. My 10 year old said, "What's wrong with the music?" because it just doesn't have the quality of current recordings. So I would stay away unless you are already a really big fan.
Solid Rock and Roll.......2007-07-03 Great compilation of Foreigner's stuff and just a great album to listen to. 1 1/4 hours of good rock. Even though it's pretty long, the listener has no trouble just putting it in the player and letting it go. No boring fill anywhere at all.
Fantastic Foreigner.......2007-05-25 This CD takes you back to the days of riding around in a car full of friends, circling the same old parking lots over and over looking for hot guys / gals and even hotter parties. Gotta love those early 80's...we were all HOT BLOODED!
Outstanding recording!.......2007-05-15 If you like Foreigner like I like Foreigner, than this collection is a must for you! The sound is clear, crisp and direct. The vocals are excellent and I find this CD enjoyable many times over. A great buy!

lton's hit singles, from three labels, in one collection. It once would've required at least four CDs to own the best stuff here. Many think the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-'70s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970's "Your Song" through 1977's "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" remains mighty impressive. But in retrospect, as they're presented here, '80s hits like "I'm Still Standing" and "Sad Songs" add much to an already amazing legacy. Three Disney tunes, the lush "The One," and two from Songs from the West Coast, which was hailed as a return to those '70s golden days, represent the later years. Collectively, these tracks reinforce the notion that, despite Michael Jackson's later proclamations, John was once the closest thing post-'60s music had to a genuine king of pop, respected by hipsters and the mainstream alike. --Bill Holdship

Good compilation........2007-07-28 This is a really good compilation of Johns'hits, but a great compilation should include several more 70's songs, as previously said by some reviewers.
There are just to many really great songs from Elton John's 70's period. Just to name a few not included: "Mona Lisa And Mad Hatters", "Tonight", "Sixty Years On", "I need You to Turn To", "Madman Across the Water", etc, etc.
Nevertheless it's a great introduction to Elton's career. But if you want make yourself a treat, please buy "Elton John live in Australia", it's maybe his best CD released ever, all of his hits backed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Live In Australia With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Now that CD is just brilliant.
PS: in disc two, where is Blue Eyes?! Great song.

Dollars and (common) cents........2007-06-12 I'm going to rate this CD based on a $1 per song cost to total cost for the entire CD (Apple and Rhapsody charge $1 per song).
Elton John is good. This CD is even better. I was disappointed to learn that he didn't write a lick of his own lyrics (Bernie Taupin did). Elton John just wrote the music. And I guess we need to hear great music before we'll listen to the lyrics of a song.
Amazon is currently selling the CD for $15. The good news is that there is $20 worth of great music on it. This CD is worth ever dollar and them some. The essential Elton John songs are: Disc 1 - Tracks 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15 & 16 (and I guess Candle In The Wind). Disc 2 - Tracks 1,3,4,5 & 6.

A great greatest hits.......2007-06-05 I got this as a birthday present and it's fab! It has all the songs that Elton is well known for and a few you maybe have forgotten about. It's easy listening and great for singing along to. Big thumbs up from me!
Elton lovers rejoice.......2007-05-06 I've got lots of old Elton on vinyl (yes, I'm old) and was delighted to find 37 Elton tunes on CD for such a great price. This is a wonderful collection with some newer songs I didn't have. And I can play them in the car! (vinyl is not so good for that).

The 70s... The Bee Gees... There's no one without the other.......2007-07-05 I cannot imagine my life as teenager in the 70s, without a reference to the Bee Gees music. These guys are great composers and surely, one of the best vocal groups of that era!
This collection has (almost) all of their greatest hits... The most romantic and even the "Disco" ones (how can you mend your broken heart, without dancing 'Stayin' Alive' once again? Come on...!!!)
I suggest you to get this one, unless you're so lucky to get that wonderful 4-CD box collection issued some years ago...

Though none of their subsequent albums matched the drug-crazed genius of Appetite for Destruction, they did, as the Greatest Hits reminds, have their moments. From the bloated Use Your Illusion I & II came ultimate rock ballads "Don't Cry" and "November Rain," along with the primal rage that was "You Could Be Mine." Buy the originals you'll thank me in the long run........2007-07-18 If you want the real deal from GNR just go out and get Appetite For Destruction.During the 80s there was GNR and Metallica two of the biggest bands in metal and if you know the legacy of Metallica you would sure understand that thats quit a feet to be alongside the most publicized metal band ever. if you like AFD then get the EP entitled lies which is a raw extension to AFD and then when your in the mood for something more toned down get both use your illusions cds. Sorry guys this album is mediocre at best and you can't cheat yourselves by getting a half hearted compilation go out and get AFD and Use Your Illusions 1 and 2.
Okay, but please read!.......2007-06-17 I love GNR. They remain one of my favorite bands. They put so much feeling into their music and lyrics (even those that are about drugs and sex). This was the first GNR CD I bought, and at the time I was in love with them. Years later I was pushed by a friend to buy Appetite for Destruction. I said to him, "I already have their greatest hits." But he replies, "No you don't. Not really." So eventually I bought AFD, and I was blown away. It is one of the greatest albums ever written. It's absolutly astounding. I am shocked to see that this greatest hits collection only had three songs from AFD. I no longer listen to this collection. Songs like Nightrain, Mr. Brownstone, My Michelle, and Rocket Queen weren't included. They certainly are better than some of the Medicore songs on here like Yesterday, Since I don't have you, and Such Fun. How were they hits, they were cover songs that did little to elevate the bands success. Where's It's So Easy, Coma, Estranged, and Garden of Eden. (even their underrated songs just mentioned are better than some songs on this track). If you want GNR's best, buy Appetite for Destruction and Use your Illusion I & II. If you want one CD then just get AFD.

Guns And Roses - A Decent Compliation.......2007-05-01 Talk about a band that had it all and pretty much threw it all away. Guns And Roses is the classic example of a band that came from nothing, hit the big time quickly, and then flushed it down the drain in a sea of drugs, alcohol, greed and general vice. The fact that they treated their fans like [...] did not help matters either. Showing up hours late at concerts or not showing up at all. Having hissy fits in the middle of shows and walking off the stage. It is really amazing to me these guys have maintained the audience that they have given the way their fans have been treated. This is a band that could have been the biggest hard rock band in the world, but basically blew it. Still, there is no denying that they produced some great rock n roll. The band really only put out 4 studio albums, so most people who are big fans of the band probably already have most of what is on this disc. As a compilation it is a decent collection. Naturally there is a lot of material from "Appetite For Destruction". The two "Use Your Illusion" albums are both well represented as well. My all time favorite G & R tune is probably "November Rain" which is here in all it's symphonic glory. Several covers are also here including Bob Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door", Paul McCartney's "Live And Let Die", and The Rolling Stones "Sympathy For The Devil". All in all this is a decent collection if you just want to get the band's best known songs.

He's sold millions of albums, filled arenas, and hobnobbed with George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, but Tom Petty's driving heartland rock has often been taken for granted by the same critics who hail John Mellencamp as a genius. Greatest Hits is an airtight argument for Petty's own greatness. Starting with "American Girl," the rollicking, Byrds-inspired single from Petty's first album in 1976, this compilation presents a chronological overview of the guitarist-vocalist's career with and without the Heartbreakers, also chronically underrated as one of today's best bands. Every one of the 16 older tracks is a well-crafted gem, full of solid guitar hooks ("Here Comes My Girl"), arresting images ("Don't Come Around Here No More") and simple but poetic lyrics ("The Waiting").
Petty isn't an innovator; he's a talented craftsman with impeccable taste and a strong sense of rock history, internalizing influences ranging from the Beatles' psychedelic masterpiece, Revolver, to the best of '70s punk. (It's interesting to remember that early efforts such as "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That" first won Petty attention as a New Wave artist). With his Dylanesque vocals and chiming 12-string guitars, Petty is more often linked these days with the sounds of the '60s. dn't be as rich, or rewarding. This is what the whole thing is about. And I've found that I'm allegic to clown wigs. I'm sure the tabloids will have a field day with that.
This album is a testimony for the faithless, an alimony for the penny-less, a contrition for the heartless, and just plain shock treatment for the synapse-less. And, you heard all that first right here from your informative Metamorpho.
I listened to this loud and it shakes and kicks the fibers of your soul into some outer-metaphysical place beyond human comprehension. It is rock, for sure, but such a damn near perfect addicting form of it that it's hard to explain- or comprehend, for that matter. Most of the subject matter centers around relationships - which are nothing new in the rock arena. But, it's what Petty and his fine band of musicians have done with it. They've molded it into generous hooks and alluring melodies that extend beyond the reach of the beautiful and cutesy. This is rough and hard rockin', make no mistake. Petty has never sounded more impassioned than on most of these songs. Listen to his vocals on "The Waiting". Pleading and insistent. But, with his Dylanesque and McGuinnesque influences, he's molded and found his own, unique voice. And swagger. Listen to his warning on "You Got Lucky" and his urgent, gutteral plea on "Refugee". Petty is giving us buckets of his emotions into these songs. The greatness lies in him, and a superbly competent band that knows exactly what to do - time and time again. They are true treasures of rock. It gets my aged Seer's blood flowing once again. Something I haven't felt since the dragon got loose in my castle. It was a good thing I had garlic at my disposal.
Most of these songs are so well written that it makes your favorite Seer's Seer hat do somersaults. It is so incredulous. Everything has a place and a place for everything. No grandstanding here. The band flows - effortlessly - giving us true gems at every turn.
I must admit, I have a certain affection for "Don't Come Around Here No More". The same haberdasher made my Seer's hat as well. But I am not mad.Even if my guides debate that point.
So, the end of this petty tale is that this is certainly a very fine representation of a true, American rocker. Succinct,sonorous,satisfying. Tom Petty has rocked since this offering, but, I feel, never as hard and spectacular as he does here. But he is mega in rock music. Give a listen - then send accolades to me in care of my scottish castle.

Good one-disc compilation.......2007-03-25 This is the best single-disc compilation of Tom Petty that you can find. It's got all of the hits and no filler. Of course, there are more comprehensive compilations out there, but this does well for a single disc. It is definately a very good overview of Tom Petty and the great artist he is. The sound is also very good. I would definately recommend it.
