Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Party Songs.......2007-06-26

Very close reproductions to the original artist. Your guests will never know that they aren't listening to the originals because they will be too busy dancing and watching their family and freinds having a great time. This one set filled in many holes in my DJ presentation. A real value. When can I get the next Drew collection!

1 out of 5 stars What a ripoff!.......2007-06-13

I can't believe I didn't read the reviews before buying this piece of "$*#. What a waste of money! Nowhere in the description does it say that these are not sung by the original artist!!! False advertising!! I guess it lists "Drew's Famous Party Music" where it normally puts the artist, but I figured that was the company who put the cd together and not the name of some lame coverband.

We're doing an iPod wedding exactly for this reason, because I want original music and not someone's bad rendition of a great song.

DO NOT BUY THIS!!! Buy a compilation of the originals instead!

1 out of 5 stars please read the reviews before you buy anything...ever........2007-01-30

After a long night of intoxication I wound up buying this cd set. This is for childrens parties, meant for those who either don't know or don't care
about the original quality recordings. If your reputation or pocket book is not at stake this compelation is decent. Save your money for the real thing. Support the original artists it's worth it.

5 out of 5 stars A great set of dance tunes for kids.......2007-01-15

Lots of songs that my teenagers danced to as they were growing up (the Macarena, the Chicken Dance, Electric Slide, etc.). I'm using this as an indoor alternative when teaching physical education to 4th graders.

1 out of 5 stars Fake! Fake! Fake!.......2006-05-01

I bought one of these CD's many years ago and found out the hard way. What a joke and a ripoff. No original artists and nowhere on the CD does it say this. I never bought another one.

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointment.......2007-04-15

I was excited to see all the fun music so I got suckered into buying it. What a let down! It breaks my heart because it had so much potential. I wish I could find this collection of songs only well done by the original musicians or even a good cover band.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-07-21

I bought this cd to be played at my 8yr old daughters birthday party. She decided to have a Luau theme. Great music to go with this type of party.

3 out of 5 stars ok.......2006-07-11

This one was ok, but not my favorite. Try Drews Island Jam, much better.

4 out of 5 stars Drew's Famous Hawwaiian Luau Party .......2005-09-14

It was our first Luau Party and the CD was Great!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Actually Rather Good..........2005-08-09

I know I am "bucking the trend" but I throw a LUAU party every summer and I use this CD as part of my music collection. Everyone really likes it - some ask me to make a copy of the music for them. The songs are very well done in my opinion (not horrible like some of the others said). The originals are better I am sure, but this is an awesome collection ON ONE CD (if you are not able to burn your own with orignial artists). I was really surprised to see the bad reviews. I think they got ticked because they were EXPECTING the real artists. Now I would have been upset if I had that impression going in, but I already KNEW... took a chance - again, people at my party love it - and for the most part people don't notice it's not the original artists. That's my 2-cents (to balance the scale).

1 out of 5 stars Not Original Artists.......2000-05-30

If you were expecting this to be a compilation of your favorite sports jams sung in the way that made them popular, don't order this CD. Although the artists try to sound "just like" the real thing, it's like watching your Mom try to dance to your music -- even if she's good, it's just not right. Unfortunately, the description doesn't tell you it's not by the original artists, and since I don't have a sound card at work, I didn't listen to the cuts. Never again.

5 out of 5 stars Drew's Famous Island Party Jams.......2007-07-08

We had our first Luau and I bought 3 of Drew's Famous CD's. I loved them and my guests kept saying "Great Music." I knew when I bought them they weren't the original artists and just cover songs, but some you will be pretty hard pressed to tell the difference. I now use some of the songs for my exercise/dance sessions. The music is really great and most importantly gets your feet moving and people dancing. I would recommend not only the Famous Island Party Jams, but the Kon Tiki Luau CD and Luau Tiki Lounge Music. If you are looking for some fun you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun!.......2006-07-11

I had a Luau this past Saturday and it was a huge success! The music added to the fun, and this cd was lots of fun. The kids didn't stop dancing along with the adults. Very upbeat.
I liked this one better than the other cd for Drews luau music.

5 out of 5 stars Have loved it and used it for 8 years.......2006-01-21

I've had a home day care for ten years, teen ministry for ten years and been a mom for 19 years. I still play this cd in day care once a week! The kids absolutely love it, and I'm not sick of it. I think that says a lot. I've used it over the years at girl scout game days, toddler play dates, Young Life clubs, you name it. Other leaders have borrowed it, and I like it well enough that I still have it around after all these years.

3 out of 5 stars Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance.......1999-12-29

I bought this for my 3-year-old who loves to do the hokey pokey and the chicken dance. I was really disappointed with the hokey pokey. It is VERY fast and hard to keep up with. I was looking for a CD with the songs you dance to at weddings. The other songs aren't catching for a 3-year-old. I did like the name game. It has a fun beat and my kids love dancing around the house to it.

5 out of 5 stars Sports Explosion.......2005-12-13

Sports Explosion has a driving high energy beat songs include; Come Baby Come; Get Ready for This; I Like to Move It; Mony Mony; Dance to the Music, The Twilight Zone, The Power, Na Na Hey Hey, and More... DJ's Choice does a fine job mixing Sports Explosion and it sounds great with a sub and fine for sports of all kinds including dance.

3 out of 5 stars Not really an explosion.......2005-06-11

I like my sports. Everyday I look at the box scores, check my fantasy sports teams, read Bill Simmons' column on ESPN, use my football phone(free with my SI subscription) to call my friends and I even play catcher in slow pitch softball. With that background, if anyone is going to know a sports explosion, it's probably going to be me. I would probably rate this compilation of songs a sports campfire. The irony of putting a song by the village people on a sports cd almost worth giving this thing 5 stars.

How do I know all of these songs you ask? I attend many sporting events and also run the DJ booth at the softball complex when my team isn't playing. I tend to run a little hot up in the booth like Maverick and have even been called dangerous, but if you want to whip fans into a frenzy at a slow pitch church league softball game, I'm the best option you have. I go with some of these songs as you can't go wrong with "I like to move it" and "Twilight zone" even though the version of twilight zone on this thing is different than the golden earring version I play. I tend to start the crowd off slow with something like "Dancing with Tears in my eyes" by Ultravox in the first couple innings. I then throw on a mix of Hasselhoff, Musical Youth and Catherine Wheel in the middle innings. Nothing throws gets the crowd more pumped up than "Black Metallic", you should try it. Actually, you should read my reviews and emulate what I do to the best of your ability. Things will improve for you in many areas. The late innings are where I tend to rile things up with the standards like "Rock n' Roll part 2", "Footloose" and "Sister Christian". I usually close with "Goodbye" by Hootie and the Blowfish after the game finishes. The umps kind of get mad because the crowd chants for me to keep playing songs like I'm turning out one of my wedding receptions, but I always get on the loudspeaker and say that although I appreciate their worship, the next game needs to start. All in all, I make the ballpark fun for the whole family. This CD isn't a bad one for your collection, but don't just rely on it alone with no backup.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2003-06-15

This is a great CD expect the YMCA song. The YMCA recording on this CD is really chesse sounding.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Haunted House CD I have been able to find.......2005-10-18

Trees surround our house and each year we create a Haunted Gauntlet for the Trick or Treater's to go through. Naturally this requires Good sound effects. We have bought several CD's in the past that were mediocre to just plain hokey. We received this CD yesterday and played it today. WOW! Literally made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck in broad daylight! It is exactly what we wanted-no stories, no narrative, no announcement for each sound effect (YES, we had one that did that and it ruined the whole effect!). This CD is a seamless blend of frightening scenes played out in surround sound to make them even more realistic. Creepy. Scary. Unnerving. It's Perfect for Haunting your House.

5 out of 5 stars Scary and Often Disturbing!.......2000-10-18

This is an excellent blend of sounds and background for a truly terrifying haunted house. The individual tracks follow a theme, but they blend well together. Many of the segments can get almost disturbing! Some of the screams and cries for help will frighten the very young and make the elders a bit uncomfortable. But as far as a "serious" and non-comedic haunted house CD, this is the best I have found.

4 out of 5 stars Great Luau Music.......2007-05-15

Drew's Famous Party Music: Authentic Luau Aloha was GREAT. We used it for our luau and everyone loved the music. I highly recommend this CD for your laua.

1 out of 5 stars A complete waste of money.......2004-06-07

I throw a luau party every summer and thought this would be good to have, but it is unbearable. Truly, I don't know what they were thinking with this one - songs from Jamaica and the Bahamas on a Hawaiian Luau disc, and absolutely pathetic songs at that. It really does sound like a small child, playing poorly, on a piece of crap $5 keyboard. For God's sake, get a Makaha Sons cd, or even the "Lilo and Stitch" soundtrack instead.

1 out of 5 stars Just horrible.......2004-04-25

Don't waste your money on this CD. My mother-in-law bought it for me as a gift on return from honeymooning in Hawaii. I wish I had never opened it so that she could return it. It sounds like something Ross from Friends would invent on his Casio keyboard. I've tried to listen to it three times and have never been able to bear listening to the entire CD. Anyone want to buy it?

1 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2004-01-22

This album sounds like it was written and performed on a Casio keyboard one afternoon for a dare. I not sure what kind of Party he had in mind when writing it, but it will definately be useful if you need your guests to leave.
