Very interesting live album we have here..........2006-07-23
Live Undead is Slayer's first live album. It was recorded with 50 of their best friends in the audience, which explains why you can hear them so clearly. Despite the lack in decent sound quality, the band itself is in tip-top shape, especially Tom Araya; his voice sounds amazing here.
For a seven-song EP, I could not have chosen better tracks to be on this CD. The standouts are Evil Has No Boundaries, Show No Mercy, and Die by the Sword, but all of these songs sound great and are actually performed a little better than on Show No Mercy/Haunting The Chapel due to a faster tempo and Araya's sharper vocals.
I am taking one star off for the price offered by Metal Blade here. $17 for a seven-song EP? No new songs? Sorry, but you might as well buy this used and make sure it's in good condition; I bought my copy used for $10 and everything's in pristine condition.
If you should get one live Slayer album, get the double-disc Decade Of Aggression that spans throughout their best years musically and features far more songs in better sound quality for only a slightly higher price. But if you are a fan of their early works and want to hear them live near the top of their game, go ahead and pick this up. Recommended.
Not really essential, but well...it's Slayer!!!.......2006-06-30
This live album was released in 1984 straight after the Haunting the Chapel EP. As far as I'm aware, it was released by the label without the band's permission. As the band had only released one full-length album and the aforementioned EP before recording this live album, it's rather hard to justify. Yet this is Slayer we're talking about, so when you look at the 7 tracks included, you realise you're in for a treat. "Black Magic", "Die by the Sword" and "The Antichrist" are all fantastic tracks and there really aren't any fillers to speak of. The performance itself is perfectly acceptable with each track being played as well as, if not better than the original. Tom's vocals sound very similar to the albums also, which displays just how great a vocalist he is.
It's worth noting that this was not recorded in a normal live environment. It's simply a rehearsal which appears to have had a rather vocal mob of fans in attendance. They sound as if they're enjoying themselves, yet I find that I don't really get the feeling of a live set when I listen to this album due to this fact. Also, the actual sound is not really that great. Everything is perfectly audible, yet when compared to the fabulous "Decade of Aggression" double live album that would come out some years later, well...there really is no comparison.
When I take these flaws into account, add the fact that the running time is under 25 minutes and "Chemical Warfare" was not included on the remastered version I have, I'd have to suggest that this is certainly not an essential Slayer release. It's one for completists like myself that figure too much Slayer really isn't enough, particularly material from their prime 80s period. You know if you fall into that category!
Its not "Decade of Aggression," but its still great........2006-05-04
The sound quality is a little bad in this live album, but other than that, this is f***ing good. Every track on here gets 100 out of 10, but my favorite has to be "Black Magic," as it sounds so awesome live.
If you're gonna get "Decade of Aggression," pick up "Live Undead" with it.
True Slayer fan.......2006-04-22
I own every Slayer cd and I find everyone of them enjoyable. They really dont have a weakness in there career, and even Paul Bostaph was incrediable drummer. This live cd is great sound quailty and very intimate. I love early Slayer because Tom says some pretty funny stuff. So if you like Slayer, get it. If your just a fan of Regin in Blood, skip it.
It's okay..........2005-10-03
This technically is a live album, but it just wasn't performed in front of a large audience. I value any releases from this era in Slayer's career, because it was a very special time in metal.
Unfortunately, the sound quality is pretty awful, and the only tracks that really excite me here are 'Evil Has No Boundaries,' 'The Anti-Christ,' 'Die By The Sword,' and 'Show No Mercy.' They all sound better than their original counterparts. The other tracks are worthy to be skipped over, though, and if you want some 5-Star Live Slayer, check out the 2-cd set, LIVE DECADE OF AGRESSION. 'Live Undead' is worthy to pick up if you want to own all of Slayer's releases, but it is not essential.

This album is pretty much a live version of Dawn Of The Undead, well worth the $15, it also includes The Undead's version of Bullet.

Why don't you already own this?.......2004-11-25
Kim Nekroman is the kind of frontman that is so captivating, one cannot help but stare at him during the Nekro's entire set. The guy puts on a hell of a show. When you're listening to this album, picture Kim moving around onstage with that coffin bass like he's making love to it. Correction *like he's F*cking it!" This album is great. Nekrophelia sounds great and the addition of Zombiesax on two songs creates a creapy vibe that they should use more often. The Nekros fly through their set a 100MPH only stopping to pump up the Danish crowd in between songs. The albun starts out a little choppy with 'Nice Day for a Resurection' (not the LP version) and then rolls on in perfect Nekro fashion
Get on your knees and kiss the coffin.......2004-01-23
I didn't find Nekromantix, they found me. Psychobilly infection filled my veins and i was hooked. The first psycho album i bought was Return of the Loving Dead, and this was the second.
As far as live albums go, this is one of the best I've ever heard. The between-song banter is all in german or danish, can't really tell cause I speak neither, but if you can get over that, the rest of the record is english. This was recorded in copenhagen, denmark, hometown to the nekro's, and they play SO well live. This isn't one show, as near as i can tell, but it might be a few different shows put together. If you play bass or guitar and know all the nekromantix clasics by heart, then get ready to be shocked: this is different.
My favorite track and favorite change was made to Howlin' at the Moon, which now has a saxophone. Amazing.
The insert to the CD has some notes from Zorch of the Meteors.
