Loathesome.......2007-01-08
Seriously, people like this? This album is part of the "better off not heard" section of 80s hardcore.
Production credits.......2006-04-28
Sorry to all you guys that love Primus so much, but the Lester Claypool that produced this album is not the same guy with the big bass. that of course doesn't change the fact that this record rocks the house- turn it up and listen to just the into for "a little each day" and see if your heart rate doesn't jump up!
A Blend of Hard Core and Thrash.......2006-03-09
I picked this album up in the mid eighties and it took about two listens to really get into it. I can say that it is probably the only hard core I've ever liked. This album is more thrash than anything and that is what I liked about it the most. They blended the thrash with hard core and a sort of rap vibe and this is the only time I ever liked that rap vibe except when Anthrax did "I'm The Man" as a goof. I guess it is the phrasing of the vocals that gives me that impression, not so much that he actually rapped.
There are some great cuts on this album and though I haven't listened to it in many years, I can still remember Join The Army and War Inside My Head.
Never got to see them live but saw them a few times on Headbanger's Ball before it sucked.
The sound is raw, loud, and aggressive and I highly recommend it.
might be a bit generic, but still awesome........2005-04-10
of course, this is not the hardcore punk of the wonderful debut, this is more of a thrash attempt than hardcore punk.
the solos are just fantastic and the guitar and bass are sharp
fav song? war inside my head.
Suicida Tendencies Best Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-04-23
If you don't have "join the army" and you like S.T. then you should stop reading this and get this amazing blend of hardcore and trash metal.
Best track for me: Join the army, a little each day, the prisoner, war inside my head, i feel your pain, possessed to skate, no name no words, looking in your eyes.

Very Impressive!!!.......2007-03-16
Some people are never happy with what comes out for newer metal. You will always have the people who say it's not original and it sounds like everything else, I think these people are the ones who are becoming bored with music all together nowadays. I admit there aren't too many bands out there that grip me start to finish anymore on new releases. This was one of them though. This band has it all going for them: Perfect production, catchy riffs, ability to slow down and still make powerful engaging music that traps the imagination and drives the inner beast to come forth. This is what I look for in music. So many genres of metal out there and I say this is just really good Melodic Death Metal. I am a huge fan of In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Norther, Nightrage.... I could go on forever but again in a lot of those bands few of them have the diverse ability to captivate the listener and keep them interested. This CD keeps me interested. I tried to find it in a store and couldn't even find a store that could order it so I broke down and bought it from here. This is well worth the money and anyone who does not like this album is not a true Melo-death fan. There is not one flaw beginning to end on this album. Buy it you won't be dissapointed!!!!! I promise!!!
Middle of the road, so-so, average, etc. .......2006-06-12
I had this album pegged two minutes into the first track. This is what I like to call a guilty pleasure. It does not disappoint in any direct fashion. One Man Army gives us some well-played, head-bangable thrash played like so many others have played it, but with a heavier, more grove-laden twist (which is the only `unique' aspect of this album). The album starts to falter about five tracks in when everything starts to sound the same. Nothing stands out, save for a catchy riff here or a notable drum fill there. Take The Haunted, Nightrage, At The Gates, Forsaken, or a hundred other melodic euro-thrash bands, half the tempo, beef up the mids, and you get this album. Like I said, it's a guilty pleasure. I enjoy driving with it blasting on the stereo, because it never fails to get my head moving (for a few songs, at least). This is the project of the singer from The Crown, the now defunct speed/thrash band that, while not doing anything new (seems to be a trend with these guys) at least were willing to up the ferocity and the edginess of their music. One Man Army, however, has taken the easy path and rehashed the already rehashed. The short and long of this album is that it's boring. It's catchy, it's well produced, it's well performed, but it's boring. I am as guilty as the next person for listening to 'unoriginal' bands but there comes a point when the music is so overdone, so trite and familiar, that I can't go without saying something (arguably 90% of today's metal bands have roots in a small handful of bands playing 10 years ago). If you really, really crave the melodic thrash, as I do, and you need a new band to fill the coffer, pick this up. Otherwise, keep investigating the back catalogues because there are definitely other bands you haven't heard that are doing the same thing better.
Quality thrash/ death metal from ex-crown's members!!!.......2006-06-08
I really like this album, with incredible production. The drums are the particular sound here, reminds me a "Black album" Metallica's era. The rythm section is wayyy good, with a solid solos and technical edge. Also, Johan Lindstran vocals were strong.
.......2006-06-04
And here we have more At The Gates worship in the form of One Man Army and The Undead Quartet (wait, it can't be a quartet since there's five people in the band...). Had this come out 10 years ago, it probably would have created a buzz in the underground. But listening to it in the year 2006, you can't help but think how many times this style of Swedish Death/Thrash Metal has been done to death already. A few interesting solos and the quality drum work is what kept me listening to this, not to mention the crystal clear production that gives the music the room and ambience it needs to flow. Unfortunately, the music is just ordinary. Oh yeah, they have Johan Lindstrand of The Crown on vocals if you're interested.
Corny name, cool cover.......2006-02-25
This is some really good mid-paced thrash. Focus is on the riffs. The singer is from The Crown and does a good job.

30 years later, Riot continues to shine..........2006-12-17
Riot has gone through many different musical styles and line-up changes throughout their 30 year career. They have combined at one time or another elements of power rock, speed rock, hard rock and on their last few efforts more of a melodic hard rock sound. The current Riot line-up has been stable the past four cds(other than former Virgin Steele drummer Frank Gilchrist coming aboard) and it shows on "Army Of One". The band gels effortlessly and powerfully with a melodic yet hard rocking intensity not seen before on a Riot cd. This is their best effort in years and the disc hasn't left my cd player in quite some time. Unfortunately true Riot fans know that "One" will not catch on here in the states but die hard fans will appreciate this amazing disc. Founding member Mark Reale continues to impress on guitar and dedicates "One" to original singer Guy Speranza who died in 2004 from cancer. Guitarist Mike Flynz shines as well creating a tour-de-force guitar sound with Reale. Bassist Pete Perez and the aforementioned Frank Gilchrist offer the listener a heavy and astounding rhythm section. The highlight of the cd though is the continued growth and power of vocalist Mike Dimeo who has come into his own on the past two Riot cd's. I'm sad to say though that Dimeo is leaving Riot for Masterplan so this might be it for the current line-up. I'm sure Reale and the boys will reinvent their sound once again for their next effort but enjoy the beauty of this cd now. It will impress even the casual listener of melodic, hard rock.

Album Description
U.K. natives Intense stand for stomping Power Metal in the vein of their American counterparts. Brutal double-bass attacks, heavy guitars, and powerful vocals, as well as excellent songwriting and cliché-free lyrics, distinguish the band from the norm. Anyone with a preference for solid, thrashy riffs, glorious melodies and genuine Metal will not be disappointed. Be prepared for neck-breaking, head-banging ecstasy that brings back memories of Iced Earth's glory days. Bang your head!
Customer Reviews:
"Long live The New Flesh".......2007-04-27
4.5 stars. After their ambitious "Second Sight", which was loaded with great songwriting but in serious need of a production overhaul, I was hoping for a vast improvement with "As Our Army Grows". I am thoroughly impressed with the leap forward in both the production sound and maturity of songcraft. While this album is packed with excellence I still become a little crestfallen when I hear the repetitive choruses as on the songs "You Die Today" and "Fear is not Enough". But the occasional flaw is really nothing when compared to the overall improvement of Intense as a whole. The great guitar work is still there, though it is a bit flashier on "Second Sight", and the vocals are now up front and more explosive than ever before. This band comes across as a mixture of Iced Earth and Evergrey, with the driving force of the former combined with the fluid arrangements of the latter. In fact, this lead singer frequently reminds me of the great Matt Barlow (formerly of Iced Earth); though without the upper register range his vocals still carry a lot of power behind them. The final three songs, "Chronicles of the New Flesh Trilogy", comes across as a tribute to Iced Earth's "Something Wicked Trilogy", albeit with a Sci-fi bent to it. It is an exceptional way to end this incredibly solid Progressive Power Metal endeavor. Running time: (57:03)
1. ANGER OF THE ANCIENTS (4:14)
2. MIRROR SHROUD (4:08)
3. OUR LAST HOPE (7:09)
4. YOU DIE TODAY (6:29)
5. INSANITY'S CALL (6:11)
6. TEMPTRESS (5:48)
7. FEAR IS NOT ENOUGH (4:53)

Customer Reviews:
Great !!!! But it's not the best work that they can do.......2001-12-23
They're awesome talented musicians and have a good job on many tracks on this album very close to their first album and considerable better than the second (Planet Earth).
Mother's Army have a lot of incredible talent musicians including the man of the 8 tapping guitar style, the awesome guitarist Jeff Watson, and the legendary Drumers Carmine Appice (From the first and second album) and Aynsley Dunbar from this release. Fire On The Moon is really "ON FIRE" and it's a good adquicition but is not at the level of the first and selftitled production with Carmine on Drums, and so much Jeff Watson skills.
One Great Rocking Album.......2001-06-06
This album has some incredible talent that brought together makes some of the most exciting rock music I have ever heard. One correction to the title above, Aynsley Dunbar, the incredible and gifted drummer from Whitesnake, Journey, Zappa, Jefferson Starship and many other incredible bands rips it up on this CD. I don't know where they got Carmines name from. It is worth the price just for his mind-blowing talent which I have been a fan of for a long time. If you like good rock n' roll like that of Rainbow, Deep Purple, Ozzy, and Whitesnake, you will love this album. Cheers!

Great melodic guitar-driven rock.......2004-04-23
This is quite the album. After hearing the great playing and super tunes on this disc, it makes you wonder what became of the brothers Gurvitz. This album has the drive of Grand Funk combined with the jazzy tunefulness of Traffic. Exceptional.
Early 70's hard rock for collectors.......1999-05-05
The first album by this power trio was released in 1971, and sounds like other hard rock bands more well known at the time. Like Budgie, this band has it's own unique sound, and features some fine guitar work. The songs are riff oriented but not as heavy as Zeppelin or Sabbath. The only problem is the overly repetitive nature of most of the album.

With this compilation Paul Gurvitz has pulled off a real coup by bringing together a balanced mix of very different songs and moods, which clearly revives all of the band's strengths. This journey back in time is both wistful and very enjoyable. The songs are so good that you're almsot left wishing that its creators could have released them back when they were recorded. On the other hand it is a pleasure to listen to them today with such superb quality. After hearing 'Three Man Army Three', it's a shame that this excellent group never recorded any more albums.9 total tracks. SPV. 2005.
