a trip back to my college days.......2007-07-16
In the late 60's, I got tickets for the Fillmore East in NYC to see my favorite group, The Jefferson Airplane. Quess what?? The opening act was "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown." I will never ever forget that evening, and have been an Arthur Brown fan since then. I also own a still-sealed vinyl version that I will NEVER open. One of the BEST from the psychedelic Era.
definitely of its time but also timeless.......2007-03-15
The All Music Guide review states "it's a little over the top, but...". Of course, the "over the top" qualities are precisely part of his appeal, as are his amazing voice and range, and his creativity. This is his first album and also his best by far. Of course it's totally of its time (1968), and there is no shortage of psychedelic silliness (I love it!), but the songwriting and performances are great, and Arthur Brown himself is a true original who sounds like no one else! On most of the songs he sings in his natural English accent, and was one of the first British rock singers to do so. He was very theatrical in his stage shows, but his singing style is also very theatrical ("I Put A Spell On You").
People who know "Fire" from the oldies radio stations will be baffled by stuff like "Spontaneous Apple Creation", but behind the strangeness is very solid music. People who, like me, like music that pushes the boundaries will certainly find plenty here to interest them.
This album is brilliant. I've had it on LP for a long time, and only recently bought the CD. I'm glad to say that it stands the test of time very well. Highly recommended!
Pure Classic Sixties COME AND BUY.......2006-07-28
Having met Arthur twice during his concerts in Cardiff over the years, this was his first album i listened to and the one that launched my appreciation of his music.
This is a very sixties HIPPIE era kind of album, the sort of music you will either love or hate.
If you are into the present day nonsense such as rap or garage then this album is certainly not for you.
For those who grew up with King Crimson - Captain Beefheart- Frank Zappa etc then you will certainly enjoy this sixties spell of nostalgia but be warned some of it is an acquired taste.
If you really like his style of music search out these other Arthur classics
Gallactic Zoo Dossier - Journey - and his very unusual STRANGELANDS all released when he had formed his very experimental Kingdom Come.
His first album though will lead you on a special adventure when music was music and not the nonsense we are dished out today.
It's a crazy, crazy, crazy world..........2006-06-09
'The Crazy World of Arthur Brown', originally released in 1968, features Brown's only hit, 'Fire', which reached number two on the pop charts in September of that year. Trying to make the most out of what clearly stands as his finest composition, Brown structured the first side of 'TCWofAB' as a suite of songs resembling a modern-day musical update on Dante's 'Inferno'. Unfortunately, only 'Fire' truly works, and Brown might have generated more sales had 'Fire' consumed an entire album side, ala Iron Butterfly's 'In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida'. He could have easily killed off several minutes with a timely drum solo, a diversion many people consider straight from Hell anyway!
'TCWofAB' is an organ dominated disc (the band did not feature an electric guitar). The next most noticable feature of most tracks is Brown's falsetto wailings, sort of like Frankie Vallie on a wicked concoction of steroids and amphetamines. I'm not sure why the mono versions of the first album side are offered up first here, but unless you want to hear the mono and stereo versions back-to-back, you'll have to skip ahead at some point. I skipped the mono versions and headed directly to track six to pick up the stereo version of the album in its entirety. You'll have to trudge through a prelude and a fanfare (both setting the groundwork for the main course with verses like "there's only one way out... bathe yourself in fire...") before getting to the meat of the disc on track three, Brown's one trick pony... albeit a great one... 'Fire'. Following the 'Fire'-works is 'Come and Buy', a mid-tempo continuation on the Hell and damnation theme ("the price of your entry is sin") and the slow-down dirge, 'Time/Confusion'.
Side two of the original vinyl abandons the 'Fire' concept, offering two covers and the two nominations for 'Best Song After Fire'. An organ dominated version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins 'I Put a Spell On You' is the opener, certainly more sinister but less bold than Creedence Clearwater's take on the same track. While 'I Put a Spell On You' fits Brown's occult demeanor to a tee, the second cover features another Brown's (in this case James Brown) composition, 'I've Got Money'. Arthur Brown's vocals come off as a David Clayton-Thomas wanna-be, distinguished only by his trademark, manic wailings. Another throw-away is Brown's 'Spontaneous Apple Creation', a pseudo-psychedelic contribution on the order of 'Incense and Peppermints' with soulful sound FX aplenty. Next to 'Fire', tracks 13 and 15 are the finest on the disc. Brown's vocals on 'Rest Cure' are David Bowie-ish, and the track is led by a catchy thumbing bass riff (with a tempo reminicent of The Rascals' 'Groovin') which provides a welcome respite from the non-stop organ leads. The last track, 'Child of My Kingdom', is a seven minute endeavor (the longest selection on the album) best described as mixed-tempo boogie-rock featuring a little bit of everything, including a honky-tonk piano and a segment of whistling.
Despite Brown's rather unique, vibrant, and extreme persona, the biggest drawback to this album is lack of diversity in sound and imagination. Too many tracks simply sound alike, and the first album side fails to deliver a coherant message on Hell, evil, and damnation (I'm not entirely sure if Brown is glamorizing the Devil or damning him... but either way he's accorded plenty of respect!). Perhaps it's meant more as a non-judgemental musical documentary. I think a listen to 'TCWofAB' is essential for any fan of circa-1970 rock and roll (certainly Brown was breaking ground for artists such as Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath here), but I don't believe the album, rumored to be Brown's best, warrants repeated playtime.
Arthur Brown - 'The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown' (Polydor).......2006-01-21
Originally released in 1968,as this was the debut record by Arthur Brown.Total of fifteen cuts. There are both mono and stereo mixes of "Prelude-Nightmare","Fanfare-Fire Poem",the unforgetable "Fire","Come And Buy" and "Time/Confusion".Sort of also liked "I Put A Spell On You" and their gritty cover of James Brown's "I've Got Money".Never knew it before I listened to this CD,but Atomic Rooster's Vincent Crane(R.I.P.)was the organist here.Nice lp reissue to have.Best described as zany psychedelia.Might appeal to fans of H.P.Lovecraft,Syd Barrett,Love,The Seeds,Fifty Foot Hose and West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band.

Beautiful album.......2007-03-08
i was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful songs and they are not stereotypical native american musc as on reviewer suggested. my toddler chills to the album before he goes to bed.
Uninteresting.......2007-01-07
Like another reviewer stated, it sounds corny and fake. I must agree. Some of it is ok, but it sounds like commercialized North American Indian music, which I suppose it is.
Good, but Lisa Gerrard repeats herself.......2006-05-19
Dead Can Dance's former singer, Lisa Gerrard, sounds good (like she always does) on this album, yet she repeats herself, coming accross a LOT like she did in "Whale Rider". The oceanic-like quality to her music plays a central role in this soundtrack, and makes me a bit doubtful about future efforts, unless she begins to experiment a little more, like she did in her DCD days.
very relaxing.......2006-02-24
i heard two cuts from this album on a recent 'music from the hearts of space' broadcast last december. needless to say, lisa gerrard's vocals, and here combined with various indigenous north american arrangements, are stellar. i recommend this for those who are looking for ambient sounds to wind the day down. a subtle, powerful, modern collection of soundtrack compositions that is rooted in tradition. quite nice and i do plan on catching the short film next time i'm in DC.
Corny, fake sounding Native American music.......2005-12-17
I am a soundtrack fan, love a good soundtrack, and found this to be incoherent...the music sounded stereotypical and unoriginal. I love Lisa Gerard's contributions to the Gladiator soundtrack but here, her voice is lost in the music. I find this cd to be kind of irritating to listen to, rather than beautiful. I'm trading it in at the local used cd store asap.

Excellent!.......2005-07-21
I had this cassette several years ago and wore it out. When the weather got hot this year, I remembered how much I missed listening to this "summer music". I immediately ordered the CD, and when I put it on, it was like listening to an old friend. This music is really a love song to South Africa, with all the sadness of the apartheid days. It is also relevant to any place where people are fighting to be free of oppression. The lyrics are beautiful and the African rhythms guarantee you will be humming the music even when not playing the CD.
Cruel Crazy Beautiful World is Johnny Clegg's best........2005-07-07
Funky, fun and imbued with all the passion of South Africa just prior to the end of apartheid, this album deals with love, hate, parenthood, freedom, marriage and war always with a winning combination of powerful beauty and enthusiasm. "Dela" later became the funky love song everyone recognized from the movie "George of the Jungle". This is simply a stunning work of art.
My favorite album of all time!.......2004-07-23
This was the first album that blew me away on first listen. From the opening tribal chanting of "One (Hu) Man, One Vote" I knew I was in for a musical journey my ears have never heard before. This album perfectly encapsulates the era of its time (the cautious optimism of 1989-1990 when communist regimes were falling in Europe and apartheid was heading in that direction), but manages to relate to current events as well, nearly 15 years later.
The song "Jericho" could very well describe the conditions at Guantanamo Bay, the recent Abu Ghraib prison scandal, and the wall being built in Israel: "standing at the gates/this is Jericho/and the walls reach up to the stars/and outside we were singing psalms/such a strange, strange place/for we are the prisoners of the prisoners we have taken/and the prophets' dreams are now forsaken."
In "One (Hu) Man, One Vote", Johnny sings, "the west is sleeping in a fragile freedom/forgotten is the price that was paid/ten thousand years of marching through a veil of tears/to break a few links in these chains/these things come to us by way of much pain/don't let us slip back into the dark."
Its not all politics, though. His catchy, danceable love song, "Dela" is guaranteed to get your feet and body moving. It was featured in the film "George of the Jungle" and remains one of the best love songs I've ever heard.
My personal favorite song is "Woman Be My Country", for its beautiful melody and lyrics, sweetened by a saxophone. This song is for anyone who feels like a stranger in his own country, an ex-patriot who disagrees with his government as it relates to the world. When we feel powerless to change the cold, impersonal bureaucracy, we seek refuge in the ones nearest and dearest to our hearts: "woman be my country/'till my country can be mine/hide me deep inside your borders/in these dark and troubled times/remember me my innocence/before I drown in a sea of lies/woman be my country/'till my country can be mine."
In short, this album is Johnny's most moving, brilliant, and best work. It is emblematic of an era in history, a soundtrack to the times, that transcends its era to represent relevancy in current situations. It is quite simply, Johnny Clegg's own "Sgt. Pepper" or "Pet Sounds". On top of that, the album cover is also one of the best ones I've seen and perhaps the best one of nearly 25 albums of his. Highly recommended, especially for any fan of world music, anyone who wants to hear a different sound than they hear on the radio, or people interested in the politics of Africa, the developing world, the Cold War, or the remarkable years that 1989-1991 were.
The Best Johnny Clegg Album.......2003-11-04
Johnny Clegg is a man caught between two worlds. On one hand, his music is so infectious that you can't help but get caught up in the sheer joy of Savuka's masterly blend of Zulu sounds and western pop. On the other hand, there is the dark heart of politics that informed Clegg's life as a white man leading a multi-racial band in South Africa during the clashes of that nation's violent struggles in change. This not a lightly made statement, Clegg lost a band member to street violence and close friends to political assassinations.
It is that friction that informs "Cruel Crazy Beautiful World." As soon as the insistent chorus of "One (Hu)man, One Vote" pounds out of the speaker, you can feel the urgency that beats behind it. Yet the heart that wants to find a better world for his children in the title song right after "One Vote" moves the urgency from the head to the heart and feet. In fact it's hard to not swing or dance while this album plays. It's like a challenge Savuka issues to your spirit and your social conscience. You need to think while you listen to "Cruel Crazy Beautiful World." And more than that, you need to dance.
Infectious.......2003-09-07
I, like many, stumbled onto Johnny Clegg & Savuka! In a bar in San Francisco of all places. This CD came on the sound system and stopped my conversation! It was so infectious that I asked the bartender who it was, and bought the CD the next day. It became one of my favorites, and remains a jubilant and transcending collection of music!

Pure Gershwin was Michael Feinstein's first album, and it remains one of his best. It may not have the production values of his later Gershwin tributes, Nice Work if You Can Get It (1996) and Michael & George (1998), but it simply and directly presents Feinstein in his piano-bar days, singing to his own tasteful accompaniments with occasional contributions from bass and drums and a second piano. Establishing the patterns for his later albums, he sings unjustly neglected verses to familiar songs, uncovers some never-before-recorded gems ("The World Is Mine," "What Causes That"), and provides song-by-song notes. Longtime friend Rosemary Clooney guests on "Isn't It a Pity?" --David Horiuchi

A Wonderful CD.......2005-05-19
PURE GERSHWIN is just that, pure!. Feinstein interprets Gershwin the way it was meant to be performed. This is pure delight!
Quiet and elegant.......2003-04-20
Michael Feinstein's thin voice is compensated by his apparent enthusiasm for the material and a spare arrangement of piano, bass, and drum that gives this recording the ambiance of an intimate piano bar. Before hearing this disc, I knew only Gershwin's biggest hits, so many of the numbers here were new to me and increase my appreciation of that great American composer.
Disappointed.......2003-04-10
I bought this cd because I am a huge Gershwin enthusiast and am always on the lookout for versions of one of my favorite pieces, "Liza". I'd heard a lot of buzz about Feinstein and the supposed wonderfulness of his Gershwin interpretations, so I thought I would give this album a shot.
I was extremely disappointed. Feinstein seems to suck the life out of Gershwin's compositions, a feat I would have previously thought impossible. Though I concede that vocalists are free to reinterpret songs (many to a great success, as in Louis Armstrong's and Ella Fitzgerals's enjoyable versions of Gershwin), I think Feinstein's lazy tempos "loungy" voice make the tracks on this album boring and annoying.
I have loved to listen to and sing these songs my entire life. I just wanted to warn listeners who perhaps, like myself, enjoy George Gershwin's music for its beautiful clarity and energy (as easily experienced through Gershwin's own recordings, early interpretations by artists such as the Astaires, and even recent broadway "Crazy For You") that they will not experience any feeling of the sort from Michael Feinstein.
Amidst all the gushing that has recently been done over him, I found Michael Feinstein to have attempted to murder "Liza" and the other songs on this album. He merely displays a very unexceptional voice and poor interpretive taste. Fans beware, Feinstein proves that it is possible to make a bad cd of Gershwin songs. I'd recommend listening elsewhere.
they can't take that album away from me.......2002-05-09
they say the third time's a charm, but in this instance, it is the first time -- michael feinstein's first gershwin album -- that is the charm. this album is by far better and more listenable than the next two -- "feinstein sings gershwin" and "nice work if you can get it".
the listenability of this album may stem from the fact that it is a bare-bones arrangement, with two pianos, a bass and drums, a la a jazz trio, with no embellishment, so michael feinstein's then sincere and unsophisticated voice is the featured instrument.
i heartily recommend this album, as every song on it is a gem and feinstein's voice is more appealing than on the two later albums, when he jazzed it up with what sounds like an echo chamber and other electronic enhancements and he seems to be doing the songs by the numbers.
feinstein's version of "liza," slowed down to ballad form and plaintively phrased, is the best i have ever heard. the duet with rosemary clooney on "isn't it a pity," again brings out the best of feinstein's then-new voice and shows why george's (clooney) aunt is rightfully considered a jazz legend.
the combined "he loves and she loves/how long has this been going on" is another melodic/poignant highlight, while the album's finale, "someone to watch over me," is a stirring anthem to wanting and needing someone and is done with vocal and instrumental passion; it brings this collection of songs to a fitting crescendo.
for a lawyer's kid from columbus, ohio who started out cataloguing gershwin estate material for the reclusive ira and then began singing the songs for family and friends, michael feinstein has done all right for himself. he has become the recognized interpreter of the gershwin legacy, sort of the same way his pseudo-cousin, john, jr. feinstein, has become the recognized interpreter of the bob knight legacy... .
michael feinstein may have hit a home run his first time up with this album, and it may be his best, as it is the purest and most joyful celebration of gershwin tunes, while the others are fancier, more jazzed up and ponderous and less appealing.
the other albums are certainly not bad, though, and i recommend buying them to fill out a feinstein or gershwin collection, but this one is by far the best one to get if you are only going to get one as a sample of either's work. it is nice work, and you can get it.

Winds Of Change Blow For Scorpions.......2007-01-20
There are unfortunate, and fortunate, things about this album. The unfortunate part is that once you're at the top, like Scorpions were through the mid to late '80s, there is no where to go but down. Fortunately with 'Crazy World', they don't drop very far. Their first album of the 90's still brings some hard rockers, plus the ubiquitous ballads that have become synonymous with the success of Scorpions. "Don't Believe Her", "Kick Between The Eyes" and "Kicks After Six" prove that the band can still rock as hard as ever, while the ballads "Winds Of Change" and "Send Me An Angel" went to the top of the charts. It's obvious that perestroika and the end of the Cold War had a profound effect on the songwriting, much more so because of their geographical proximity to the Eastern Bloc.
CRAZY WORLD ROCKS.......2006-12-12
I LOVE THE SCORPIONS WHO ARE AMONGST THE GREATEST HARD ROCK GROUPS OF ALL TIME.CRAZY WORLD IS A REALLY GOOD ALBUM WITH SOME GREAT ROCKERS AND BALLADAS.GET IT TODAY AND ENJOY
The beginning of the end.......2006-10-01
Ok, as a big Scorpions fan, this album still confuses me. The overall sound is horrible, I can't understand how Scorpions couldn't achieve a cleaner production.
Some of the songs are good, but if you wanna hear a better version of them buy "Live bites". There you have a rescued Tease me, please me; Hit between the eyes and Crazy world. I never realized how these tracks really rocked until I listened to them live.
Don't believe her started the tradition of boring No.2 tracks (which continues until now) for Scorpions albums. Yes, Scorpions biggest hit appears here, the so called Wind of Change. I remember how exciting was to first hear this song on the radio and say: "Wow! It's Scorpions! It's on the radio!" and then just hate it for hearing it every second, everywhere. It was just too much. Besides, this is not Scorpions best ballad, Walking on the edge or Lady starlight (just two examples among many many others) deserve much more attention than this one. Ok it was the symbol of the perestroika generation, but it's so sappy that I can't listen to it again. Besides, it also started a generation of Scorpions "love and peace" songs (Under the same sun, Does anyone know, White dove) that I just can't begin to like.
Anyway, this record represents the first flaw in many many time for the Scorpions, and the beginning of their 90's evident decadence.
A solid outing that scored big on the charts........2006-08-23
This is the Scorps first album of the 90's and isn't a bad piece of music at all. But truth be told it is a little bland. Sure tunes like Hit Between the Eyes and Tease Me Please Me race along quite happily and Kicks after Six cruises along propelled by Klaus Meines vox but much of this album just doesn't quite have that elusive X factor. It is a little sickly smooth and even the power ballads seem a little dull, and that's pretty much what the band was becoming known for at the time.
Money and Fame show the Scorpions could still spit and snarl with the best of them if they chose to but there is precious little display of bared fangs elsewhere on the album. The ballad Send Me an Angel, tacked onto the end of the album like some sort of bonus track actually became a hit in a number of territories. Not sure why but hey, nobody asked me!
The real saving grace for this album is the fact that it produced Wind of Change. This monster of a hit would not of struck gold at any other time, it was written and released at a time when certain historic events were taking place. There truly was a Wind of Change going through Europe in the couple of years after this album was put out and that's why heavy rock fans of a certain vintage will always 'zone out' when they hear this song on the radio. Which you often do as it transcended metal or hard rock, it captured the zeitgeist of the moment to perfection, encapsulating a feeling of optimism that fluttered and die in Europe a few years later, and then in the US a few years after that.
BUT - as towering as that song is, and as solid as a few of the rockers are this is not an essential album for the casual Scorps fan unless you pick it up 2nd hand cheaply. For the casual hard rock fan I'd suggest you get yourself a few other releases instead, those being Virgin Killer (1977), Tokyo Tapes (78) and maybe even Best of Rockers and Ballads (89) - the latter two particularly being a good taste tester for this bands product up to the end of the 80's.
Wind Of Change .......2006-04-23
This is their album containing the famous and wonderful " Wind Of Change ", I also like the Tease Me Please Me,To Be With You In Heaven and Send Me An Angel but the other songs are not that great.Overall the album is not as necessary laudy, noisy and hard for a metal album.

5 STARS AND THEN SOME !!.......2006-02-10
Oh Julie, the songs you sang on this CD are superb. I wish you could still give us that joy. If you can only sing in the low registers, give us jazz!! You can do it I just know you can!!
Pretty Sad, .......2005-10-27
Hollywood veteran Julie Andrews has had a glorious career, but not without its downsides. Her legend is built on "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins" and other glorious roles. Her abilities as a singer were never impressive or great, her voice often sounded weak, but she always knew how to sing around her very limited vocal range. On this collection she performs some of the greatest Broadway tunes ever written and even though she does a good job, her voice just doesn't hold up against many of these tunes. Her warmth is felt all over the album, in "Here I'll Stay" she wraps her gentle, but narrow, voice around it and in "My Funny Valentine" she sticks to the lower register of her voice. However, in the re-recording of her classic "Sound of Music" and in "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" her voice fails her, it often sounds thin and airy and it's actually quite sad to listen to. When all is said and done Julie Andrews remains a great talent, and most of that talent is largely due to her amazing capability as a performer and her genuine warmth.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH JULIE ALL OVER AGAIN.......2005-06-25
As a young kid growing up in the Philippines I remember my Dad playing his state-of-the-art Aiwa tape recorder back in the 60s and hearing Julie Andrews' voice - truly the voice of an angel! Now, hearing these songs again with adult ears I fell in love with her voice all over again !
A Great Julie Andrews CD.......2002-01-27
If you are a fan of Dame Julie's and musicals, this is the cd for you. It is a compilation of songs from prevously released albums; The King and I, The Music of Richard Rodgers, Here I'll Stay, and Victor/Victoria, Original Broadway Cast Recording.
I found the material to be very well put together giving the listener selections from My Fair Lady, Camelot, The Sound of Music, Victor/Victoria and others. What more could you want?
As for Ms. Andrews, she is superb. There is simply no one like her. I have heard comments that prior to the infamous throat surgery she was unable to handle the difficult material and hit those high notes. This is just not true. All you have to do is listen to these songs recorded in the early 90's to know that she still had a marvelous voice. Lets hope that one day she will be able to sing and record again. If not, these may be her last recordings so treasure them.
The My Fair Lady suite is wonderful and Ms. Andrews definitely hit the high note at the end of "I Could Have Danced All Night".
Her version of "Edelweiss" and "The Sound of Music" are lovely.
Also worth listening to is "Living in the Shadows" written for the Broadway production of Victor/Victoria so you won't find it on the movie soundtrack. The lyrics are by Leslie Bricusse who also penned "Crazy World", which is another great selection on this cd.
Overall this is a cd worth having in your collection, so buy it today. Otherwise you are missing out.
Climbing Every Mountain with Mary Poppins.......2002-01-22
Julie Andrews and her music have been an inspiration to me
every since I stepped into a theater and watched Mary Poppins
(many years ago). I admire her talent and her voice on this CD. I know it is not as clear a voice as she used to have but I still enjoy listening to her. I listen to this CD when I want a "pick me up" and am proud to have it as part of my collection.

Great Bay Area Band.......2007-04-25
Stained Glass 66-69, one of the better bay area bands. 2 LP's never took off, likely due to the huge number of other bands being showcased in the bay area. Saw them many times in my youth. The Whatz it club, Contentental Ballroom, Very tight band, formally known as the Trolls. Jim Mcpherson the bass player went on to play with Cooperhead after Stained Glass broke up. They sounded like a mix of Beatles-Springfield-Cream. Lot of earlier 45 stuff also on this CD. I give it high marks.

Product Description
The long-awaited new album by Corrinne May "Safe in a Crazy World" features 10 new songs from the pianist and singer-songwriter. The album has more of the touching piano ballads Corrinne is known for, such as "Safe in a Crazy World", "Everything in its Time" and "Every Beat of My Heart". There is also a Birthday Song for those who dread the thought of growing older, simply titled "The Birthday Song" However, the standout track in this album is one simply titled "Free". A lovely gem of a pop song with a serious anthem of a chorus.
Customer Reviews:
Corrinne's songwriting is as beautiful as her voice.........2007-05-27
This is the cd I turn to when I've had a bad day, when I need a pick me up, or when I just want to relax and here a beautiful voice sing amazingly heartfelt lyrics. Corrinne will truly make you feel, "Safe in a Crazy World"
She just gets better...........2007-03-17
With her angelic voice, Corrinne May's second CD is just as wonderful as her first. I am looking forward to more from this great artist!
A Zen Like CD.......2007-01-19
First time I heard Corrinne May I was on a Singapore airline flight. I fell in love with her "Every Beat of my Heart". I had just fallen in love and was traveling with my love, my MAK. Every word of the song, every beat of the song, synchronized with every beat of my heart and kept me in my heart which was filled with love for him, for the love that was consuming me, for the love I had for every moment of my life and for the love I felt for everyone & everything. I synced his music player with mine and when Corrinne sang:
"Cause I don't know
Where your journey goes
Or how long it will take to unfold
But as long as we keep this moment shining in the dark
I will be watching over every beat of your heart"
I'd put my hand on his heart and feel the tenderness and fragility of his heart in my heart. I knew with certainty that the tenderness and fragility in my heart had made a connection with tenderness and fragility of his heart when I was filled with ecstasy and grace.
As I listened to her other songs, I noticed that I like them as well so I decided to buy the CD. It took a while to find her CD (not in stores in US) and even longer to order it. My soul searching is very intense lately and that might be why I now find heart drawn to another song on this CD, "Everything in its Time".
"Sometimes I wonder what lies ahead
How long till my hunger is fed
They say it's hard to make it in this part of town
So many people on this merry-go-round
Some folks try astrology
Some turn to crystal balls
To find an answer
To get through it all
I just fall on my knees and I try to pray
In the silence I can hear him say
The river runs and the river hides
Out to the ocean and under the sky
I promise you, the answer will come
Hold on to patience and watch for the sign
Everything in its time
I often feel like I'm two steps behind
Somebody must have moved that finish line
There are a thousand reasons
Why I should give up
But I'm stubborn in the things I believe"
Her songs talk to me because she writes from everyday life material and sings from her heart. That is why as I go through my life, I relate to different songs of hers. Of course, this greatly influences how I rate the CD; how it connects to me, how it warms my heart and Not the sophistication of the music, the voice, the arrangement, the quality of the recording, etc. Still, I am sure my holistic experience would not have been so great without the quality of all aspects which make this a great CD. I plan to give it as Gift to those whom I hold close to heart.
not as good as her first.......2006-01-27
When I got this album I was a little disappointed. Most of the songs on here are generic pop. There just isn't that many beautiful songs on this album as on her last one. It is more upbeat than the last one though. I was hoping for more pretty songs though. The best songs on here are 'Angel in Disguise' and 'Safe in a Crazy Wolrd' in my opinion. The other songs arn't bad but they don't suite my taste. The lyrics on most of the songs are good and meaningful, that's not the problem. I think the music itself sounds a little over processed and a little too much like regular pop. I think the cymbals(drums and percussion) are over used, In my opinion they ruins some of the songs such as 'The Birthday Song' and 'Every Beat of My Heart'.
Still it's an ok album and personally I think it's worth it if you can get it used on Amazon. It just isn't as special as her first one. Listen to longer samples at CDBaby.com .
Exquisite and honest.......2005-12-17
Corrinne's voice is crystal clear and gentle. With this most recent cd Corrinne has truly evolved into a sensation. The tracks on this cd are each individual, lovingly written vignettes of life.
She does not force her voice toward you yet the result of hearing her music is indelible. She complements her vocal clarity with her accompished piano in waves of emotion. Corrinne's music is hers and when she sings the whole experience of listening is honest. Her melodies here are hardly ephemeral, they're quite memorably lovely but it's her warmth that you carry with you once you've been struck by her music.

Album Details
Digitally Remastered Double Anthology of the Pop and Soundtrack Composer from the 50's and 60's. Perhaps his Best Counterpart of Today Would Be John Williams. A Film Maker Could Always Rely on Mancini to Deliver a Composition that Hit the Mark for a Film and Conveyed Exactly What was Required and More. He also Filled the Role of an American Mantovani, Recording 'muzak' Versions of Popular Hits. He was Handsome, Personable, but Most of All, Well Respected for his Craft.
Customer Reviews:
not enough Galway.......2003-10-02
There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.
Too Good to Last.......2000-03-03
I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

Fantastic choice for Galway & Mancini fans!.......1999-03-08
For those who are fans of Galway or Mancini, (or even those who are not) this is a fun, upbeat CD that will bring back a lot of movie memories. This combination of the talents of this pair make for a great listening experience. I have had this work in my music library for a long time, and am grateful that it is still available since my ex and I both wanted custody of it!
awesome!.......1999-01-02
Galaway has awesome talent! This album isn't just for the classical type. It has a lot of fun, up-beat familiar tunes that everyone will enjoy. It's definetly one of Galaway's best. If you don't have it, go buy it now!
