5 out of 5 stars Awesome sounds and vocals.......2007-05-20

This album is very loud in vocals and very clear. The lead singer set a world's record at the time for loudest vocals in decibals. The songs are very good. Awesome 1st album by them. The 2nd album slips a bit, but not bad.

5 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, the most underrated metal band........2006-06-18

Like 80's metal? Then why don't you own this one?

5 out of 5 stars Amazing and Powerful Band... .......2006-05-21

In few words, Steeheart the album, if you gotta own this! This is one of the most brilliant and powerful bands from the 90s, great vocals...this guy can scream, too good.

5 out of 5 stars A diamond in the ruff.......2006-03-11

I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of reviews here. This CD simply rocks. The lead singer's voice was MADE for rock n' roll. It's a shame this band didn't get huge b/c this CD is simply superb. Like many, I first heard "Never Let You Go" on the radio and bought the cassette (back in the day) only to find that every other song on the album was as good as the first.

If this CD doesn't get your adrenaline for great hard rock going, nothing will. It's a keeper. Steelheart is/was a great band.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars.......2005-12-23

this was one of the bands that should have received the airplay -at the time of its release- that all of its related artists were,or had been, receiving . it was all so sudden....radio staions everywhere switched to that mess known as "grunge". Music would never again have style or intelligence or triumph or voice, or magnificence, or all of the above, it seemed. what was it with grunge , anyway....why couldn't that generation come up with anything different and yet ...good ? there are a few talented names/artists from that era, but most of that grunge time seemed like some kind of corporate joke on both the twenty somethings getting the record deals ( -probably made them think they had some kind of contribution to make to music-) as well as the radio audience deprieved now of music as we had always known it to be in this country, despite genre or time : intelligently inspired, assembled , and performed. that this album by steelheart kicked its foot through the door just as someone or something seemed to be closing out all of the good stuff in sound was perhaps all i could have hoped for at that time, though - as the stench coming from all of that grunge quickly dominated - no, the better word is "permeated" -the airwaves.

5 out of 5 stars Hair Metal At Its Finest.......2006-01-12

If you had anything to do w/ the 80s, early 90s hair metal scene, this is a must own. A highly underrated band. Milli can hit notes no one even comes close to. Take the songs "Steelheart" or "Sheila"...it doesn't get any better than this. Screaming like a maniac. If these songs don't get you going, give it up. It was a shame that a concert accident halted the momentum of this up and coming band. A great cd for any collection of the genre.

4 out of 5 stars Steelhearts 2nd album...Honestly not as good as the 1st.......2005-02-04

Because I love this band so much, I'm doing a review for all 3 of their albums (this is the second one, see Steelheart and/or Wait for my other two reviews.)

Album Name: Tangled In Reins
Running Time: 53:34
Band Members: Mike Matijevic- Lead Vocals and Piano
Chris Risola- Lead Guitar
Frank DiCostanzo- Rhythm Guitar and Talk Box
John Fowler- Drums and Percussion
James Ward- Bass

Now don't be mislead by the title of my review. This album is good but its just not as good as the 1st album was. It was the last CD that the orginal Steelheart recorded and i'm glad they did more then 1 album. I only wish it was the pure magic that was the 1st album.

1. Loaded Mutha -5:42- A decent opening track but doesn't seem fast enough for me. The lyrics and the talk box are pretty cool though. 3/5

2. Sticky Side Up -4:32- Probably my favorite track on the CD. Awesome awesome song. The solo along with Mike's screams is capable of destroying buildings. 5/5!!

3. Electric Love Child -6:26- a decent track over all...its pretty good although slightly annoying..The high point is during the solo listening to Mike screaming along with it 3/5

4. Late For The Party -4:17- Cheesy cheesy song. Not bad though the talk box is pretty awesome. 2.5/5

5. All Your Love -6:53- Some people compare this one to "Angel Eyes" but it doesn't do the same for me. But the lyrics are good and its worth a listen 3.5/5

6. Love'em And I'm Gone -5:38- Nice sleazy sex song. Cool bass line and catchy ass lyrics this is one of the better tracks 4/5

7. Take Me Back Home -4:43- Nice catchy tune that I personally like. 4/5

8. Steelheart -5:44- Ahh the self-titled track that KICKS ASS!!!! God this song is so good its like an orgy of solos and screams. Mike hits his highest (YES his highest) high note ever!! 5/5!!

9. Mama Don't You Cry -5:49- Although this song is very cheesy (piano and children singing) I do like this song alot. The piano although cheesy does sound good and the guitar is very nice. 5/5
10. Dancin' In The Fire -3:49- Cool catchy track. nuff said. 4/5

So yeah although its not as good as the 1st the 2nd album is still a good listen. I dunno if its worth 50$ (current price) but if your a die hard Steelheart fan (like me) its worth getting.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Metal For Anybody With An Ear For Anything.......2004-03-15

This album si absolutely amazing. Sans the slight cheezeeness of the piano and the children in "Mama, Don't You Cry," this is one of the few metal albums that can be played from start to finish w/o dissapointment. "Loaded Mutha" starts you out high and keeps you going when you hit "Sticky Side Up," which makes you laugh at Matijevic's sheer cockiness that is so archtypal for metal. "All Your Love" is a ballad comparable to "I'll Never Let You Go." Even though all the high notes aren't there, the harmonies are blended wonderfully. And dude, if you wanna kickin' song that just freakin' rocks, the song "Steelheart" (#8) is just awesome, it's fast, hard-hitting, and he totally rocks a G-sharp for like a year. It's awesome. Get this album, you won't be dissapointed. Matijevic, you're a god!

5 out of 5 stars Steelheart Strikes Again!.......2004-02-09

This cd is most definatly just as good as there first album! The selection of songs on this cd are great i love them all! Not much more to say bout this cd execpt go get it! You'll most definatly get your moneys worth!

3 out of 5 stars Average music from a band that never really hit big.......2007-06-10

Well, here it is "Just a Taste". It's nothing too original. Sounds like a lot of bands music now days. Too bad Miljenko couldn't stay teamed up with Zakk Wilde. That was some awesome music they made for the Rock Star movie. While I'm on the Rock Star movie, how manay times are they going to re-record 'We All Die Young'?? It was on 2000's Wait, the Rock Star soundtrack and now here it is again on "Just a Taste". Come on guys!! The version on the Rock Star soundtrack is the best BY FAR!!

For now, I say if this is "just a taste" I'll pass on the full course...

3 out of 5 stars Steelheart CD.......2007-05-12

I love Steelheart, so I thought I would buy this CD. I must admit I was a little disappointed. The music just isn't up to their usual caliber. While it's not bad, I had expected something a little more phenominal.

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 STARS - DID SOMEBODY FORGET TO TELL THESE GUYS THEY SUCK ?.......2007-04-30

This new EP sounds great! If this is a sample of what's to come I will also be buying the full CD when it's released. I know all of you die-hard fans of the classic Steelheart sound are not going to like my review, but I don't care, 90's Steelheart songs were slightly above average at best. The only thing truly outstanding about 90's Steelheart was Miljenko Matijevic's vocal abilities. Well, not only does this new EP clearly demonstrate his vocal abilities of yesteryear, particularly on 'We All Die Young', but it also shows that Matijevic, and his new band, has wisely moved forward from his 90's Power Ballad sound. In 2007 this is what a 90's Power Ballad band should sound like, that is, if they have evolved, and have any interest in sounding modern and relevant. If you don't like this EP because of the 'new sound' there are still several 80's and 90's Hair/Power Ballad bands that have shown no growth whatsoever, I would suggest buying one of their CD's. Kudos to Steelheart for this EP and chosen musical direction.

5 out of 5 stars RE: Joy Elizabeth Teets Review.......2007-04-22

Let me first start by saying that the "Just A Taste" EP is a great new direction for Miljenko (Mike) Matajevic and Steelheart if you will. Sure I just as anyone loved the old sound and was caught by surprise with the "Wait" album, which after a couple of listens actually turned out to be a great album.

Now on to Joy Elizabeth Teets review. I am confused as to how you can say that "Laughing Out Loud" is about suicide. How rediculous is that.

Some sample lyrics here folks and you decide:

"I've given my heart and my soul to you
Forgive me if I gave too much at one time"

So far so good,right?

Ok...let's see:

"I was a fool to believe in you
forgive me if I burn a little bit of your pride
But I don't want to be around when you go down
I'm goin' on my way before I waste more time"

now the chorus:

"Everytime I give out my heart I get skinned alive
Everytime I give out my thoughts I get pushed aside
Everytime I give out hand I get suicide
Everytime I give out my love I get jealousy
Everytime I give you it thought
I just wanna be livin' and lovin' and eatin' and singin' and f#$kin' and laughing and laughing out loud"

So Joy Elizabeth understand metaphors in songs before you review them.
This song is not I repeat NOT about suicide, may be about a chick may be about the record business.

If you like great music with great vocals you won't be disappointed.
The Zepplin refernces are dead on if Zeppelin was around today I think.
The Most Amazing Voice in Rock Returns.
Unmatched and Untouchable....period!

P.S.
Never ever ,ever was Steelheart a "hair band"! Poison,Tuff,Pretty Boy Floyd,Tigertailz...those are hair bands...what did people talk about the Beatles...their hair...were they a "hair band"? I don't think so.

5 out of 5 stars Why can't bands ever stick to their signature sound which made them awesome??.......2007-03-13

I love Steelheart! Their debut can NEVER be topped EVER!! That being said, the way they change their sound saddens me. I wish bands would stick to what they did best!! Steelheart is a Hair Metal band and should stay a Hair Metal band!

Laughing Out Loud is the worst song they have ever done!! If you pay attention to the lyrics, it sounds like it's about committing suicide. But it's not really about promoting suicide. But the sound and the way Mike changed his vocals is NOT Steelheart!! The Grunge scene is over and I can't believe a guy who once sang about "Never let you go, you're the only one for me, you're all I need" would do a complete 180 and actually sing like all these other bands. This is just sad! And it sounds exactly like Soundgarden.

Twisted Future sounds like there is an orchestra in the background which is cool. But this song sounds more like Dream Theater. I love Dream Theater but again, I'm disappointed that it doesn't sound like Steelheart. The lyrics are not good either but I have to admit musically, this song is a winner on this EP! Not only is it better than 99% of these bands of today but it does have awesome guitar playing.

Buried Unkind is really heavy for a while but then gets slow later in the song. You'll hear a piano and whistling. It's nothing special really. It sounds like any of these bands of today. The lyrics again are totally NOT Steelheart!

We All Die Young is from the Wait album. This is the only song Miljenko Matijvic actually sounds like he did on their debut. His voice is awesome on this song. But the sound is heavier. I do like this song a lot just for the voice. So this is another winner!

So 2 out of 4 songs are good on this EP. And 1 of those 2 that are good, is only good musically, not lyrically. I just cannot believe one of my favorite Hair Metal bands would stoop this low. Singing about being depressed and even the mention of suicide is shameful. I just wish they would do what they did best and Miljenko Matijvic used his voice like he used to on every song. But I love his voice so much that even though only one song has it, I had to give it 5 stars!

It's so sad that they felt they had to sound like all these other bands instead of staying true to their uniqueness!! Steelheart was famous for having this unique sound and Mike using his vocals to the fullest. It's all gone now.

But if you want a TRUE Steelheart album that rocks and has good lyrics, listen to their debut which will always be their greatest, their sophomore album, Tangled In Reins and their last release, Wait. Their new direction is NOT Steelheart!

SONGS: 1. My Anger 2. Seasons 3. Burnt Offerings 4. This Side Of Summer 5. Season Of Madness 6. Did I Know You 7. Farewell To All The Kings 8. You Walk Alone 9. Under A Midnight Sun (instrumental) PALACE OF BLACK is an exciting Metal project featuring vocalist Michael Vescera (MALMSTEEN, REIGN OF TERROR and LOUDNESS) and guitarist Paul Marko (NOVEMBER 67). There is more than a heavy nod to the grandfathers of Metal - BLACK SABBATH on this album. The first riff from "My Anger" determines much of the style of the album from the word go and the playing is skilful if not overwhelming. Vocally Vescera is in fine form songs such as "Seasons" show depth and imagination and strong chorus plus mature song writing. This would set more than happily on any later SABBATH release. Again "Burnt Offerings" retains a crisp driving riff with a melodic chorus passage. Wind down CANDLEMASS a few notches and you will get a sense of what PALACE OF BLACK are trying to achieve. It's nice to find a Metal band that doesn't want to hammer everything into the ground with frenetic riffing and drumming. The almost languid pace at which some of the songs canter along is refreshing as it is appealing. "This Side Of Summer" is a monster ballad that starts slowly and crashes in with a stomping riff. PALACE OF BLACK are firmly rooted in 80's Heavy Metal and are different in that they are not playing million miles an hour Epic Power Metal nor European Melodic Metal. If you fancy a change and a gearshift or two down then Vescera and Marko may well be a welcome respite.

5 out of 5 stars The best singer of all time!.......2005-03-31

Mike Matijevic is, undoubtedly, the best singer of all time. Axl Rose, Sebastian Bach and Rob Halford are little pets beside him! That's why he was chosen to do the vocals for the "Rock Star" movie. Check it out! Don't take this "Wait" project as a Steelheart project, but as a Mike Matijevic project. It's not the same band. It's just Mike and a bunch of invited musicians. Nothing to do with the fast-hard-rock sound of the previous two albuns (Steelheart and Tangled in Reins), but, still, it amuses. Great and criative songs, wonderful vocals. The album shows how Mike is talented and shows his ability to explore different musical styles. All songs are great, but I have to mention the best pieces: We All Die Young, Ahh Song, Electric Chair, Take a Little Time, Say No More and Shangrila. Mike is simply a genius.

4 out of 5 stars Its really only Mike but its still good!.......2005-02-08

Because I love this band so much, I'm doing a review for all 3 of their albums (this is the third one, see Steelheart and/or Tangled In Reins for my other two reviews.)

      Album Name: Wait
      Running Time: 45:51
      Muscians:

Mike Matijevic- Lead Vocals, Accoustic guitar, Piano
      Kenny Kanowski- Guitars and Mandolin
Vincent Mele Jr. (the Griz)- Bass guitar
Alex Makarovich- Drums (except on Wait)
Andy Duncan- Percussion (drums only on Wait)
Derek Austin- Piano and String arrangements
      Kenneth W. Gloffree- Saxophone

      String Section: Ellie Blackshaw- Viola
      Mary Shannon- 1st violon
      Shereen Goobur- 2nd Violin
      Lucy East- Cello

So as you can see its quite a different line-up then the orginal 5 man band once was. It may not be the fast paced glam rock band it once was, but this new Steelheart cd is still good. Despite what some may say about it being terrible, it is far from it. The musicianship is very good and Mike's voice is still soaring although hes not screaming until his lungs explode anymore.

      1. We All Die Young -5:09- This is not the version that was played in Rockstar. However, I like this one a bit more. It is more calmed down but still has that great power ballad feeling. 5/5

      2. Live To Die -4:17- This track is decent I guess. The vereses are lame though because it is mostly whispered and you can't really understand it but the solo is nice. 3/5

      3. The Ahh Song -4:05- Probably my 3rd favorite track. Really cool song but I probably only like just cuz of Mike's Ahh's. 5/5

      4. Electric Chair -4:38- This song is pretty cool. the chorus is pretty catchy and the guitar is good 4/5

      5. Wait -4:31- Probably 4th favorite track. Nice laid back ballad. sounds something out of "Tangled In Reins" 4.5/5

      6. Garden Of Delight -4:53- My 2nd favorite track! The strings are perfect and the song as a whole sounds great 5/5

      7. Take A Little Time -4:00- A bizarre little rock song...doesn't do much for me though probably least favorite track 2/5

      8. Cabernet -3:48- Probably the fastest song on the track. Very cool rocker with a nice solo. 4/5

      9. Say No More -5:16- Pretty good track. Its not my favorite but its still a good song. 3/5

      10. Shangrila -5:14- Ahh my favorite song. Mike really blew me away with this song. A great soft rock song about that perfect place we had in our youth. Really outstanding. 5/5

Even though its not the orginal Steelheart that will always live in my heart as the greatest metal band of all time. This new style Mike tried out is very good and I wish him the best. Alas, its been nearly 10 years since its orginal release. Please don't tell me this is the end Mike. You did such a good job with this album or prehaps you should reunite with the orgianl members! That'd be so awesome I'd pay money to see that! I hope to see another album soon Mike. Your a god.

3 out of 5 stars Not really Steelheart..........2004-07-23

Although this album says "Steelheart", it really isn't the same band that made the first 2 albums. Basically it just Mike Matijevic on vocals. In an interview in 2001, Mike actually described this album as a "solo" project. If you like the other 2 Steelheart albums, then you may be disappointed with this one. It definitely is not the same hard-rock, guitar jammin' music as on the other albums. But still Mike's voice is great and he shows that he has a great vocal range on this album. I thought this album may be similar to some of the songs Mike did on the 'Rock Star' soundtrack, but this album is much softer. And the version of 'We All Die Young' is a much slower and lighter version than the one from the 'Rock Star' soundtrack; it's almost like 2 different songs. All in all, it's not Steelheart, but it has a few good songs.

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best.......2004-05-16

This may be Steelheart, but you have to admit, on this release, it is only Mike Matijevic. The rest of the band is not on this release. On the Rock Star sound track, We All Die Young is the true version of what the song would have been if Steelheart was back together. Mike had been down a long road with tough time's, he lost his mom, and it show's the pain he felt on this release. I hope and pray that Mike will get back into the saddle and once again claim that he is the best vocal's in this industry today, and tomorrow.

4 out of 5 stars different than their old stuff but a kool record.......2004-03-12

I listened to this CD and don't find it to be a disappointment. So the guitars aren't blasting power chords all the time. So Mike Matijevic doesn't blast a high note on every song ... he does show on this album a very good mid-range, which he didn't show before. Mike can't do "NEVER LET YOU GO" every time he puts out new product ... he did this record 6 years later! I dig most of the songs, I think "We All Die Young" sounds more current, and less 'cheesy '80s' (what people say who like to rip hard rock) than the version in ROCK STAR. I also disagree that some say there are Zepellin influences in some of the music ... though it definitely has a different, rawer sound than their debut, from '90. My favorite Steelheart disc is still Tangled In Reins, {the absolute best hard rock album from 1992, hands down}, but all in all after a couple listens this is an enjoyable rock release featuring a singer who is still truly distinct.

        Album Description

Great debut album of German-power heavy metal with some progressive-neo classic metal influences and guitar riffs in a pure NWOBHM style. Rapid Fire is the new band by Antonio Pecere, the Sigma singer. Contains a cover of Loudness ('Crazy Doctor') sung in Japanese. Steelheart. 2005.

        Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars great riffage; vox not for everyone.......2006-05-05

        from Sentinel Steel:
"Very good traditional power metal from Italy that sounds very similar to Australian bands like Pegazus and Black Steel, with a smattering of Dungeon and Running Wild for good measure. Includes a cover version of Loudness' Crazy Doctor in the original language!
        Steelheart/Adrenaline"
        ----------------------------------------
I would agree that the music is very good, but I disagree with the comparisons to Pegazus & RW...but everyone will have their own opinions, I just thought the vox were much too theatrical and sometimes lacked feeling. Wild Obsession & Crazy Doctor are good tunes. And BTW, it's much cheaper on SentinelSteel.com
