Brilliant. Power Games is an Opus of Glorious Metal Past. Simply a bygone era of Proto Thrash that influenced numerous Metal genres that followed. this is a worthy purchase. TONS of Music for a great price. Also check out their 2003 release "Run Ragged". jaguar is back baby

5 out of 5 stars Clearly a must have if you are into NWOBHM.......2004-02-15

These guys are amazing. I have had this album for a while, but I noticed that nobody had reviewed this album. This 2cd set covers about everything that the band Jaguar has recorded. The first disc has Power Games, which is a relentless heavy metal opus of early 1980s. The second half of disc 1 and first half of disc two contains the album This Time. This Time is a much mellower affair than Power Games but still great. It has been said before, but it bears repeating, This Time has held up quite well. It is simply softer than Power Games and more melodic- trust me, This Time is not some saucy English album with overt synthesizers and prancing theatrics!

Rounding out disc 2 is Jaguar's reformation album of Jaguar, 2000's Wake Me. Wake Me has a new singer, but this guy is a screamer, great powerful voice. Wake Me was one of the best albums of 2000 for frantic metal. This album is classic, and it often feels like a relentless assualt on the senses. Buy it.

Warning- there are a couple Jaguar cds for sale on Amazon that have been purchased by NWOBHM fans which I do not recognize. The only Jaguar LPs by the Bristol, UK band that I know of are Power Games, This Time, Wake Me and Run Ragged.

This was the finest moment from a band that really had a chance to write great riffs and the songwriting shone through, only on this release however. Including the great onrelease tracks (some of which I spent years wishing to find as the re-issue was out-of-print)In another notes a really great release from JAGUAR,missing in action title is JAGUAR-THIS TIME,I really wanna find it someday like others fans of this great band on CDs too, good luck for everybody.

          4 out of 5 stars Underrated NWOBHM.......2005-01-20

Power Games (1980.) Jaguar's first album.

In the late seventies/early eighties the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) took Great Britain by storm. Band after band shelled out awesome metal songs, but sadly, very few of these bands found success in England - and an even smaller number found success outside their native homeland (Iron Maiden and Saxon were examples of this rare phenomenon.) Jaguar is one of those bands that never got recognized in their native country - or abroad. With a vocalist whose voice was the happy medium between Paul Di'Anno and Lou Gramm, and a heavy metal guitar assault on the senses, these shelled out AWESOME metal songs. And recently, this album was reissued on CD with bonus tracks! Read on for my review of Power Games.

Admittingly, Jaguar isn't really a band that does a whole lot of unique things with their sound, but if you want straight-up classic metal, you've come to the right place! Dutch Connection kicks off the album. This opener is a straight-up, hard and heavy NWOBHM rocker that epitomizes everything we love about the genre. An opening track of an album should always be one that grabs your attention and gets you hooked - and this one does just that! Out Of Luck is basically more of the same, and if you read the review for the previous track, you'd know that that's a GOOD thing. It's songs like this that make me wonder why nobody appreciates this band. The Fox is more of the hard and heavy stuff you got in the first two tracks - but this time we get a heavy yet melodic chorus. Overall, this is - you guessed it - ANOTHER great track! How many other bands can use similar stylings for three tracks in a row and still keep things fresh?Master Game is a little bit slower than the last few tracks. It combines melodic rock elements with hard and heavy rock ones - and does a surprisingly good job of it. They don't call it "Master" game for nothing! With No Lies, the band shells out a sonic metal assault on the senses you'd have to be a fool not to love. However in this track, the VOCALS are the true attraction. Run For Your Life sounds like one of the NWOBHM's many rip-offs of Iron Maiden's Wrathchild (you'd be surprised how many bands ripped this sing off.) However, if you're going to rip a song off, you may as well rip off one of the best!Prisoner is another heavy rocker that is only made better by its great lyrics. Ain't No Fantasy is a slow rocker, but it's still a heavy one - something NOT easy to pull off! As for Rawdeal - Let's see. The vocals are good, the guitar playing is killer - honestly, how in the hell could a person NOT like this song? The closer, Coldheart, is yet ANOTHER hard and heavy rocker. Overall it manages to be a great closer, wrapping up the album nicely.

The CD reissue of this album features several bonus tracks, which only improve the album. The only real problem is that the album itself is hard to find, especially if you live in America. You'll probably have to end up importing it if you want it.

Overall, Jaguar's best-known album is good, but a little bit redundant. Of course, redundancy isn't a bad thing if what is being repeated is damn good music - which this album consists of from start to finish. The only real reason for the three and a half star rating is that I am a very hard reviewer (see how rarely I give out five-star grades?) If you're a fan of NWOBHM (and everyone SHOULD BE), I stronly suggest you check out Jaguar. These guys are too cool to pass up.

4 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD EXAMPLE.......2001-01-12

The already legendary " New Wave of British Heavy Metal" was a spontaneous movement that ocurred between 1979 and 1983/4 in Britain. More than 300 bands tried to make their names in that prolific scenario, from whom only three ( Iron Maiden, Def Leppard - totally transfigured muscically - and Saxon ) survived until our days - without any interruptions, I mean. Mosf of them had already disappeared by 1985. Jaguar was one of them. This album is a landmark of that era. Hard, fast and simple metal songs played with energy, fury and good taste. Amazing album. The singer, Paul Merrell, has an outstanding voice.

5 out of 5 stars Great Solid Hard Rock From Sweden!.......2007-01-12

I first heard 220 Volt when I bought a used cassette of Eye To Eye in the mid 90s. It contained a great ballad called Love Is All You Need! Power Games was actually the last album I got from these guys and I think I saved the best for last. This is one of those great albums that you can listen to from start to finish without skipping a track. The songs range from mostly hard rock to a couple ballads. There are plenty of good riffs, melodic guitar parts, and catchy choruses. The singer, Joakim Lundholm, has a unique emotional and melodic singing style. Mind Over Muscle has a few gems (Electric Messengers rules!) but Power Games is their best overall!

5 out of 5 stars Possibly The Most UNDERATED Album In Metal History!!!.......2005-05-10

Yes!!! The fact that 220 VOLT-"Power Games"(1984) is not one of the most respected metal albums of all time is a travesty!!! 220 Volt SHOULD have made it big. Their first three albums("220 Volt", "Power Games", "Mind Over Muscle") are Euro-metal classics rivaled only by the BEST Accept albums. 220 Volt sounded like a spaced out blend of Judas Priest, debut-era Europe, Torch, and Oz, with absolutely brilliant and classy guitar work... Some of the best metal guitar work of all time! "Power Games" is a classic with an amazing spacy and heavy production. Every song is perfect and the album works on a WHOLE, in a way few other albums(even by bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept)have. 220 Volt's vocalist has an extremely unique style which helps to make 220 Volt sound unlike any one else. And the guitars...wow!!! "Power Games" is a great album to get stoned to and blends up-tempo tracks with grooved-out spacy/heavy songs. I guarantee if you check out 220 Volt you will be SHOCKED that so few true metalheads have ever heard them. This travesty must be rectified, something you can help out with by spreading the word about this classic album!!! PRAISE THE METAL GODS FOR 220 VOLT!!! SWEDEN'S GREATEST EXPORT!!!
