Those who don't know any better are apt to dismiss Deborah Cox as another R&B/dance diva determined to cling to the spotlight by whatever means necessary, including a giant genre-leap. Those who've been listening carefully, though, will check their doubts at Destination Moon's door. On this, her fourth disc, Cox sidles up to jazz--the jazz of her role model Dinah Washington--with subtlety and surefooted grace; along the way, she makes something of a masterpiece. From classics such as the title track to lesser-known but deeply felt compositions such as "I Don't Hurt Anymore," she avoids the temptation to rub a modern sheen over these songs and settles contentedly into the mood Washington carved for them instead. "This Bitter Earth" gets the "mm-hmm" treatment Dinah delivered so well, and "Misery" and "New Blowtop Blues" don't dream of belying their blueswoman roots. Best of all are the more delicate tracks: "Look to the Rainbow" captivates with a contemplative sadness, and "Blue Skies" is a natural wonder as beautiful as a dose of pure azure on a cloudless day. --Tammy La Gorce
Album Description
Platinum-selling recording artist Deborah Cox reinterprets the classic songs of Dinah Washington on her Decca debut, Destination Moon. Destination Moon thrusts the R&B/dance diva into whole new territory, showcasing her range and scope as an artist capable of tackling jazz, blues and "big-band" with ease and confidence. Deborah Cox's first exposure to Washington came very early, when she was a little girl. "I first became aware of Dinah when I was growing up, when I was about 8 or 9 years old" she says. "A lot of jazz was played about the house. I heard my mother playing a 45 of "This Bitter Earth" -- this first song I had ever heard from Dinah. It was the richness and the tonality of her voice that I gravitated to." For the arrangements and the production, Deborah turned to the highly-versatile New York-based music man Rob Mounsey, whose credits with such diverse performers include Paul Simon, Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin and Tony Bennett to name a few. The record was made live in the studio, with 40 musicians in the same room with her, playing and singing in real time under Mounsey's direction. "I'm doing this to broaden people's awareness of what I can do and also for the sheer love of her music." As a result, Deborah's homage to Dinah Washington does not lean overwhelmingly toward one particular style. It was designed from the beginning to be a compendium of several of Dinah's idioms - the big-band swing of "All Of Me" and "Destination Moon," swaggering R&B ("I Don't Hurt Anymore)," the blues that earned her the misleading nickname "Queen of the Blues" ("Misery," "New Blowtop Blues"), the lush ballads that put her on the jukeboxes of Middle America ("What A Diff'rence A Day Made," "This Bitter Earth").

Sensually, The Next Unforgetable.......2007-08-03
This past year, there just haven't been so much but only hype with female recording artists. It is sad and unfortunate, because it seems like the sound of the music doesn't deliver well. With acts like Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce' who've made records, they just missed a little something to deliver to everyone, especially in R&B and standards too. For Deborah Cox, the past several years have been a bit difficult for her. After her departure from BMG and Arista, she did bounce back by performing in the final production of Elton John & Tim Rice's Aida in 2004-2005. Now, she also returned in a whole new way by bringings that standards back in real soul and R&B. however, does this album click, or fall down, it shines very bright.
Deborah Cox's 2007 Destination Moon, is her debut on the acclaimed Decca Records. The album pays a sensual tribute to Jazz songstress Dinah Washington, and delivers. The mood from Deborah's voice, delivers the more seductive and sensual performance she has made ever, and makes the mark well. The album includes great standards, and even some surprises that also made the record work. The orchestral feel mixes in tune nicely, and in such a way that it hasn't been heard this elequently since Natalie Cole's Unforgetable With Love. The album includes the title track Destination Moon, as well as the Jazz rendered Squeeze Me, Blue Skies, and a stirring rendition of a song that was more well known from the 50's group The Platters which Washington also recorded during her era, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes. Every track feels like it is a special treat, and something Deborah Cox shines in very brightly. My only gripe about the record is that is is just a bit too short, leaving listeners really going wild for more from Deborah's beautiful voice. But it is much better than most other albums released this past year, and 10x better than standards albums from Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart that surfaced a few years ago.
All in all, I really hope Deborah Cox keeps making great records like Destination Moon. I really love this record so much, it delivers from an angel. It is a great buy for die hard Deborah Cox fans, and fans of the classic Jazz-like Soul style from years ago that hasn't been heard on the radio for years. This is definitely so far the best album of 2007, and something that looks to the rainbow nicely.

Fantastic CD.......2007-07-21
I was so totally impressed with her voice and her style. Jazz is definitely Deborah Cox' forte'!! I bought two and gave one to a friend who feels exactly the same way. Hope to hear more from her along the "Jazz" lines....

Love her voice.......2007-07-18
I guess I'm a big sucker for souful, strong, powerful voice. Me loving this album proves it again. It's all jazz standards, nothing new. In the past year, getting new albums from Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, it's like one disappointment after another. So when I heard this new album, I was more than happily surprised how good it is. If you're a fan of jazz standards, I bet you'll like this one.
Deborah Shines.......2007-07-05
From her self-titled debut, to One Wish, to The Morning After to Destination Moon, Deborah's albums are like mini-greatest hits compilations, and Deborah scores again with her interpretations of Dinah Washington's songs on Destination Moon. Deborah has the best voice in contemporary music today, and this album continuously showcases her incredible range and talent. Personal favorites will include the title track, "Misery", and "This Bitter Earth". The album's best songs are "What a Difference a Day Makes" and the closing "Look to the Rainbow". Flawless from start to finish, Deborah again creates a masterpiece.
Jazz & Blues with Deborah !.......2007-06-25
Deborah takes the less is more approach with her first collection of standards. With a restraint that gives the arrangements plenty of room to breathe, she croons beautifully, showing us different facets of her vocal personality.
While her hits have generally called on her to be very angry or very sad, these classic songs allow her to be at turns gentle, sassy, reflective, happy and wry. The productions and arrangements are reminiscent of the golden era of era of Billie, Sarah, Dinah and others, but contain enough surprises to keep them from sounding old-fashioned.
Deborah - who shifted from pop siren to Broadway star with Aida, further expands her range to include jazz, blues and big band. Cox and her backing musicians were recorded live in the studio, playing and singing in real time. The effect pays off as Cox accurately renders each song with her own textures.
No one expects Cox to abandon the dance-floor (she just released a new dance track with Tony Moran), but her latest offering "Destination Moon" allows her to explore another musical landscape with glowing results.
Deborah takes the jazz route on "Destination Moon", a tribute to one of her all-time heroines, Dinah (The Queen) Washington. Whether you view it as a tribute album, a jazz debut or just a collection of good music, this album succeeds on all levels. From the swinging big-band to piano-voice ballads, Cox captures the essence of Washington, yet adds her own touches. Washington's milestone recordings are here. Cox gives "What a Difference a Day Makes" a mid-tempo turn with strings, getting the Queen's innocent voicing, but injecting more feeling into the lyrics.
"Baby, You've Got What It Takes" comes at us as a fast shuffle. Cox fills "This Bitter Earth" with Washington tics - the up-speak at the end of phrases, the self-satisfied "mmh-hmmm" after a line. Washington first made her name as a blues singer, and Cox lays the blues on in "Misery" and "New Blowtop Blues", that classic mean-woman lament where she sings of her run-in with a jealous ".45-packin' mama."
On "Destination Moon", focusing on Washington, the jazz singer, dishing out several of the standards most closely associated with her career, Deborah also wraps her powerful pipes around gems like "I Don't Hurt Anymore", "September in the Rain" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
Producer/arranger Rob Mounsey pulled out all the stops for these sessions, surrounding Cox with a 40-piece orchestra that laid down a gorgeous foundation for her to build on. And she did just that.
In an interview conducted to promote her new album, , Cox said she recorded this record for two reasons -- to pay tribute to an artist who had so inspired her and to show that she, like Washington, was capable of doing a lot more musically than some people might have expected.
She succeeded on both counts. It's very nice work.
Think long, rainy afternoons, dinners for two and early mornings on the patio.

Album Description
On February 2003, Virginia Beach, Virginia introduced the world to the charming quintet collectively known as Mae. Not only was their debut album, "Destination: Beautiful" an instant success with audiences, but their live show proved their talent moved even past just writing alluring hits.
Customer Reviews:
Great CD.......2007-03-21
I love Mae, so I appreciate anything they put out. However, I think I prefer "The Everglow" a bit more than this album. But with that said, "Embers and Envelopes" makes me smile and sing along each time it pops up in my play list.
Every emo band is the flippin same........2006-12-12
So I WILL say that Mae is my favorite band and they're not the same. This has been in my top 10 most played list on my iPod for over 2 years now. They are far more musically tight than any other "emo" band I've heard. And I've heard a few. I would buy this CD twice, I loved it so much. I'm definitely not emo--even remotely, but Mae takes the cake. Combining matters of life with matters of love, their lyrics are simple, yet deep.
If this band makes you feel depressed, get a prescription for Prozac, buy some clothes with colours and get some exercise. Flip.
Destination: Beautiful... wow!.......2006-08-02
I came across Mae some months ago as I was searching for new bands to listen to here in Amazon, and I've read a lot of positive feedbacks regarding the band so I quickly wrote them under my list of bands I wanted to check out (and I also saw that their cd cover was really nice... I admit it was one of the reasons why I was drawn to this cd). Fortunately, my friend had a cd of their album, Destination: Beautiful and I got so excited that I listened to it right away.
After hearing some of the tracks, I quickly understood why this cd has collected a lot of high ratings from people. Mae's songs are lyrically (for me, there is a certain magic to their words) and musically (the notes and words fit just right, and the music captures the essence of the lyrics) beautiful. The vocals are also soothing as it will make you think and daydream of good things. The lyrics are catchy (although I don't really know their songs word per word) in the sense that you'd easily remember them because of their catchy tones. It won't be long until you find yourself alone singing to their tunes. It won't be long until you find yourself alone just wanting to hear their songs, or a part of their song. Their songs will really leave you wanting to hear them again and again.
Some songs that I really find nice in this album are All Deliberate Speed, Summertime, Giving it Away, and my favorite, Sun. I find all of their songs nice... some just stand out. If you're looking for cd's to check out, put Mae's Destination: Beautiful in your list now!
Breath of Fresh Air.......2006-06-11
Honestly, when I first picked up this cd I liked rwo songs on it: "Embers and Envelopes" and "All Deliberate Speed". The rest were just boring. But one day it just clicked. Now I think this cd is wonderful. The songs just have a clean and crisp sound that remind you of spring weather. The singer's voice is soft and easy to listen to. Nicely written lyrics, too. I recommend this!
Stand out tracks:
Embers and Envelopes
All Deliberate Speed
Last Call
Goodbye Goodnight
Another album-on-a-whim gone right........2006-05-24
The first time through I found "Destination: Beautiful" an unremarkable album with catchy pop hooks, but not much more; the second time through, it blew me away. While Mae will never be entered into the annals of innovative pop/rock, their first effort is innocent, earnest and optimistic. From the sincere and wistful "All Deliberate Speed" to the sugary but lovable "Soundtrack for Our Movie," Mae provides music that maintains interest and just generally feels good. Easily one of the albums that would make the soundtrack of my life.

Unwind with this..........2007-03-26
Smooth, sensous, soothing, and sultry. A couple of cuts a little on the "loungy" side but overall this is an excellent CD that delivers exactly what you would expect from the title. The quality of this stuff is definitely a cut above a lot of the other budda-lounge wannabes.
A maverick New Age/Eastern hybrid classic!.......2005-03-25
I am absolutely taken into the beauty and harmony that is the album "Hotel Tara". I first heard this at an independent CD store recently and after finding out who it was, I instantly bought the new album and I am proud of my choice of buying it. This album reminds me very strongly of the Earthtone collection series from years ago. After the apparent and unfortunate demise of the Earthtone label, Sequoia Records seems to have taken the torch and "Hotel Tara" is a powerful CD. "Apollo 13" is a highly eclectic track that incorporates voice effects of a NASA space mission with a gorgeous jazz/New Age groove. "Govinda Hari" is an electrifying song with haunting Eastern Indian voices and a very entrancing melody. This is such a wonderful CD and I highly recommend this.
Blissful Eastern Chill.......2005-03-10
Nothing less than superb ! This new titles from Sequoia Groove is a blissful voyage into the very best of Eastern influenced downtempo chill-out music. A provacative follow up to Sequoia's Buddha Lounge series. This album really transports the listener into some very exoctic and sensuous musical landscapes. I especially love the Jaya Lakshmi track "Govinda Hari" and "Apollo 13" by Joe Werineck which incorporates actual original recordings from the space mission into a lushly textured background of slow and sultry electonica. This is a great addition to any downtempo musical collection. If you like, Buddha Bar or Hotel De Costa you will love Hotel Tara.
The Ultimate Music for Sacred Lovers.......2005-02-10
David & Steve Gordon have done it again ! Just when you thought it could'nt get any better, these musical visionaries deepen the mix even further. Hotel Tara bills itself as "The Intimate Side of Buddha Lounge" and it certainly delivers on that promise. This is an exotic and enticing blend of traditional Eastern music with the very best that Western downtempo-electronica has to offer, featuring an superlative assortment of the very best Sequoia artists and some absolutely alluring new artists. Likely the most noteable being the lead track "L'Heure Verte/The Green Hour"from Artemisia, the new Steve Gordon solo project with it's distinctive tabla beat, exquisite tamboura, sensuous guitar and luminous vocals provided by Jaya Lakshmi whose "Govinda Hari" also graces the album. David Gordon's new solo track "Floating" is also fantastic, melding chill-out and smooth jazz effortlessly into this delightfully transcendent tune. My wife and I have now found our new favorite CD for our intimate encounters and Tantra sessions. These Sequoia Groove titles just keep getting better and better and this one is perfect suited for the the Sacred Lover. Keep them coming. Absolutely delightful.

It's appropriate that Destination Anywhere is an album by Bon Jovi the solo artist as opposed to Bon Jovi the band. For while it contains the requisite number of catchy tunes and the right amount of romantic drama, it varies from the band's output in two important ways. First, much of the material on Destination Anywhere is more low-key than the band's high-octane anthems, offering intimacy, if not exactly introspection, from Jon Bon Jovi himself. Too, there's an experimental edge to the music, with sound samples, programmed drums, and keyboard washes that are as distant from the group's albums as California is from New Jersey. Eurythmic Dave Stewart, ex-Hooters Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian, and perennial hit maker Desmond Child kick in some help on "Queen of New Orleans," "Midnight in Chelsea," and "Ugly." The album-closing "August 7, 4:15," meanwhile, is a dramatic rocker about the murder of Bon Jovi's manager's child. Overall, Destination Anywhere is a solid effort, with Bon Jovi flexing some of the same muscles he's building with his budding acting career. --Daniel Durchholz

The Low Point, But Still Some Moments........2006-07-10
2 stars would probably be more accurate. But since a mediocre Bon Jovi record is better than none at all, I'll be generous. Like "Blaze of Glory," "Destination Anywhere" was made without his band. However, while "Blaze of Glory" would make it seem that Bon Jovi could hold his own and that the return of his group was optional, this solo record "Destination Anywhere" would make it appear that the reunion of his band was essential to his survival. Most of you know they did regroup afterwards to make "Crush." Well, onto the subject at hand. The first thing you will notice is that Bon Jovi does NOT really sound like himself on this record for the most part. Sadly, the change does not seem for the better as Bon Jovi slips into a grunge type tone. If you like old school Bon Jovi, chances are you will not like the first several songs on this record. In addition, Bon Jovi always seemed to be able to prevent his clicheish songs from sounding so. But that does not seem to be the case on this record. But even this mediocre Bon Jovi record does have a few moments. The record gets 1 star for the title track: "Destination Anywhere." On this track Bon Jovi starts to sound like his old self again, and rather than just sounding like a radio tune, this song does reflect effort. It sounds like a track that would have been on "Keep the Faith" or "These Days." This record gets a 2nd star for 'Little City.' While this song is different from anything Bon Jovi has done, this is a case where different seems to work. It's a low key song, but a good one. Finally, like on his "Crush," Bon Jovi saves the best for last. The 3rd star is for 'August 7, 4:15.' This track really saves the record. This song reflects the tragic death of the daughter of Bon Jovi's manager. This song is done tastefully and with dignity. In addition, on this track Bon Jovi really does sound like his old self again. The power of this track falls somewhere between that of "New Jersey" and "Slippery When Wet." To Bon Jovi's virtue, he does two good things with this song. (1) He gives his old school 80s fans one song. (2) While this song does have a tragic story behind it, we really do get the impression that Bon Jovi honestly feels for this girl and that he is NOT trying to just make another song. Being perfectly honest, this is quite arguably Bon Jovi's weakest record. But do be warned. If you skip it, you will miss out on one good song, one great song, and one phenomenal song.
Jon Bon Jovi...where were you?.......2006-05-13
This is a masterpiece! It has left me gobsmacked a lot of times. I received this CD in 1997 from a friend and I just hated this CD! I thought this was, well...darn awful of Bon Jovi to come up with wussy songs like these...So, I had put this album away until a few months later, out of sheer boredom, I played it again...This time, I kept reading the lyrics as the song was played out. I have never stopped listening to the songs since. I think it has something to do with the lucid and easy-to-remember lyrics, and ofcourse, you give Jon Bon Jovi a nursery rhyme and he will make a song out of it.
Its 2006, and I just bought my second copy. I had lost my earlier copy in 1999.
That has to say a lot for the genius that this guy is...
ABSOLUTLY AWFUL !.......2006-04-13
Is this for real? It sounds like John Tesh or Harry Connick Jr.
I just got this CD and it put me to sleep. It should be called Destination down the tube.I'm a diehard Bon Jovi fan from New Jersey and I cannot believe he released this tragedy.I love all the CD's from Bon Jovi but this solo by Jon sounds like elevator or nursing home music. And for Richie,Bryan and Tico, please don't let Jon out of your sight again.
A Neglected Gem.......2006-01-18
I bought this cd when it came out, and loved it right away. I still listen to it regularly, and continue to be amazed that none of the tracks were ever released as singles. "Midnight in Chelsea" and "Queen of New Orleans" are just two of the many great songs that are better than a lot of the junk that makes it onto the airwaves, so the lack of attention to the only solo release from such a major talent is inexplicable.
Plagiarizing the Foo Fighters..........2005-12-17
"Queen Of New Orleans" = "Hey, Johnny Park!"...listen to both songs (the latter one being from the Foo Fighters) and it's EXACTLY the same guitar riff...Bon Jovi released his album a month later than the Foos..."Midnight In Chelsea" is good though

The debut release by this Canadian duo could easily have been billed as the latest from Ron Sexsmith, who writes all the material here and sings all the leads. Yet the harmonies of producer Don Kerr, a frequent Sexsmith sideman, are more than background vocals, as the two strive for a brotherly blend reminiscent of the Everlys and the Louvins. The arrangements are largely acoustic, the melodies often folkish, from the mandolin-driven "Listen" that opens the CD through the country strains of "Reacquainted." Poppier fare such as the dreamy "Chasing Forever" and "Counting on Time" pay homage to the brothers Davies of the Kinks, whose reveries of sunny days and village greens find kindred spirits here. Few can match Sexsmith for melancholy, and the lovesick "Only Me" reflects his bittersweet best. --Don McLeese
Album Description
Destination Unknown is a seriously stunning release, offering a welcome 21st century answer to the Everly Brothers. Together, with Ron's band, the two have toured the world, sharing the stage with the likes of Coldplay and Elvis Costello, who along with Paul McCartney and many others, count themselves among Ron's fans. Sexsmith & Kerr's camaraderie is showcased with the lilting, gorgeous harmonies of Destination Unknown. Ronboys. 2005.

A modern day Everly Brothers kind of tone to the CD.......2007-01-24
Most songs are beautifully orchestrated, as Sexsmith is known to do.
Wonderful! Ron Sexsmith fans rejoice!.......2006-12-09
Ron Sexsmith has been a brilliant, stellar exception to the dull and shopworn landscape of popular musical artists for a long time now, and continues his streak of gorgeous, masterful music on this disc. Not only is Ron in his best form, perhaps better than ever before, he also has teamed up with an artist, Don Kerr, who's so compatible they may as well be twins separated at birth.
Ron's heavenly voice is there, as are the soaring, tuneful and memorable melodies, and lush, rich guitar work, all to complement lyrics that are at once sweet, gentle, insightful, and bitterseet. The music flows like a river of diamonds from start to finish. Not one track or moment is less than lovely.
If you have been liking Ron Sexsmith, rush to get this outstanding work of art. If you have never really tried his music, this is a great place to start, with Don Kerr's voice complementing Ron's so beautifully. And if you fall in love with this disc, which you likely will, get the rest of his music. It's all of piece, all beautiful.
Regards,
Tom B
A beautiful album from one of the world's best songwriters.......2006-08-27
It's incredible how astonishingly consistent and prolific Ron Sexsmith has been over the past decade. I keep worrying that the pace at which he puts out albums is going to dilute their quality, but it certainly hasn't happened yet. Everything he's put out since "Ron Sexsmith" is worth owning, and each contains at least a handful of masterpieces. How an artist this accessible and talented hasn't found more than a cult audience is beyond me. Anyway, Destination Unknown is one of his loveliest albums. Even the songs that don't rank with his best have inched their way into my consciousness, and the great ones -- to my ears, One Less Shadow, Raindrops in My Coffee, Diana Sweets, and Tree-Lined Street -- are genuinely timeless. Maybe a few others could belong in that list, depending on my mood. The few that don't do as much for me are still melodically inventive and worth listening to, but the lyrics tend a little bit towards sentimentality and self-pity; I'm sure, however, that other people feel differently.
I tried to get one of my hipster friends into Sexsmith, but something seemed to put him off. I think he heard the surface prettiness and assumed that Sexsmith was somehow a safe bland coffeehouse kind of talent, who couldn't possibly have anything exciting to offer. But daring goes beyond throwing in distortion and computerized skronks, or spouting lyrics that express shopworn alienation; it also means looking deeply into yourself and caring enough about your craft to keep working until you cast that state of mind into something permanent and honest. A bubbly tune like Diana Sweets, for example, is actually a hard look at the simultaneous pointlessness and irresistibility of nostalgia. It takes a great deal of courage to look inside yourself and pull that out. Perhaps Sexsmith will never have a large audience -- although I certainly hope he does, because he deserves it -- but anyone that really listens to these songs closely will carry them around for a lifetime. Buy it, you lucky few, and enjoy.
A Lovely New Set from Mr. Sexsmith.......2005-10-15
I've been enamored with Sexsmith's work ever since the classic "Blue Boy" and bought every one of his albums, over time, from the moment I heard that album.
This is not to say that every one of his recordings has been as packed with exquisite melodies and thoughtful lyrics as the above-mentioned treasure, in Sexsmith's albums there have always been beauties to relish but not quite another album which held my admiration from beginning to end.
That said, this collaboration with Don Kerr -Ron's longtime companion on the road and in studios- may be the one that reaches such heights.
Although the instrumentation here is far more spare than in "Blue Boy," consisting primarily of guitars, an occasional cello and some drums, the quality of the writing is impeccable and the mood the two voices conjure up will remind you of his signature romantic touch.
The songs, by and large, are tunes originally written for "Retriever," this album's predecessor, and the idea of recording them as a duo grew out of playing and harmonizing them while traveling from concert to concert. As far as the general feel given to them, it is mainly the result of Sexsmith's admiration for the Louvin Brothers and the Everly Brothers, which will bring memories from both famous groups without ever making you suspicious of plagiarism. Sexsmith is a remarkable composer and singer in his own right, and Kerr provides the perfect vocal counterpoint.
It is hard to single out songs because the compositions are consistently good and the performance throughout is quite faithful to the influences I alluded to before. Still, "Tree-Lined Street," "Counting On Me," "Only Me," "Raindrops In My Coffee" or "Chasing Forever" are sufficient proof of this album deserving a place in your collection.
So, if you already like Sexsmith and you could use some beautiful music early in the morning, before the world revs up to break-neck speeds, this may be just what you've been waiting for.
Lovely music, where "lovely" means beautiful, tender and unconcerned with what people might think of the plain joy of singing pretty songs.
Great Songsmith.......2005-10-11
This is the first CD from Ron Sexsmith I have bought, and it will certainly not be the last one. Accompanied by two guitars and some occasionally drums, the result depends heavily on the voices and the songs. And I must say they are both beautiful. I hear influences, like Paul McCartney, Everly brothers, Louvin brothers and even an early Nils Lofgren. But the songs stand on their own, and it is typically a CD you play when you want to hear something beautiful and timeless. Highlights for me are 'Counting on time' and the absolute killer....'Only me'.

Holy Mother Of Mae.......2006-03-16
i listen to alot of music from Panic! At The Disco To N'sync and the top band or group i listen to is by far mae.........this is one of their best cd's because you see the bands creativity come alive......personally my favorite track on the cd is "giving it away"....i think whoever you are you will enjoy this album.....check this album out i pormise that the results in buying and or checking it out are rewarding!
Great songs, short cd........2005-12-05
I was very pleased and very devastaded with this album at the same time for two very simple reasons: #1 they released this album too early for a b-sides album so it turned out short and #2 they put suspension (which was to be on "the everglow") on here. What they have on here is amazing but its whats lacking that i have a problem with.
Yet another awesome album by Mae!.......2005-10-15
This album has a lot of re-mixes and live songs off their debut album, Destination: Beautiful. This Time Is The Last Time (Wave Remix), Sun (Acoustic), Giving It Away (Acoustic), Goodbye, Goodnight (S.M. Remix), This Time Is The Last Time (Live) all originally where introduced in Destination: Beautiful. I really enjoy the acoustic version of Sun... its very awesome.
Their music has mature a lot since then, and musically it sounds a lot better and just runs smoother.
I loved Destination: Beautiful, but I have to say I like this album even better. A must have if you're looking for something to listen to that that is soft, yet not boring.
That being said, some of the beats are a bit repetitive, like in Destination: Beautiful.
Pure Art.......2005-09-24
this is definately very different from all of the other Mae cds. while i love everything by Mae, this is abslolutely AMAZING to say the least. my ultimate favorite song on the cd is "awakening". its really one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard!! the song has alot to do with hope and strength and the listener can't help but get drawn into it all. thats goes for all of the songs on Destination: B-Sides...they touch you in a way that only beautifully composed music can. do yourself a favor and get this cd...its beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding music!!!.......2005-05-14
This is the first CD I've ever had by Mae, and I must say...I thought to myself..."where have they been all my life?" Melodically wise, they are amazing, the guitars in this band are phenominal. The singer has a really different, school boy cute voice...if that can explain it. My personal favorite song is "Tisbury Lane"...listen to that one, and if you love that song, you will love every other. I'm gonna go buy out all of the Mae CDs now...so I gotta run...

Erik Wollo's works are overlooked gems of modern instrumental music. From his home in Norway, Wollo's been sending out missives of mood and ambience since the mid-1980s with albums like Silver Beach and Solstice. Last year's U.S. release of Guitar Nova explored the acoustic-guitar side of this musician in multilayered, overdubbed soundscapes that retained the ambience and structure of his electronic works. With Wind Journey, he returns to synthesizers but keeps his electric guitar at hand for some gloriously heroic solos, especially on "Dream Line." A subtle, tugging ostinato pattern builds into layers of keyboard orchestrations topped by guitar, which starts out in a pastoral, acoustic mode but segues into a soaring lead solo that recalls Steve Hackett during his Spectral Mornings era. Wind Journey is centered by Seasons Suite, a 10-part sequence of moody vignettes. Erik Wollo's roots in progressive rock are clear and he uses them to articulate a cinematic music. While Wollo lives in a country with some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the world, he composes much of his music in a basement studio. The worlds he creates are strictly from the imagination, and what a vivid imagination it is. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Ambient music that takes me far, far away!.......2003-04-24
I have purchased cd in the summer of 2002. Back then, all I could think of doing was listen to 88.5 on the radio and hope that they will play music from Erik Wollo. The first song I heard was "Dream Lines". The music didn't seem familiar to me at first. I didn't consider it really ambient but it turned out that it was. After listening to it, I was into it very much. I never heard such a song played like that before and I knew it was something I would like. Wollo plays the guitar in a way that the sound echoes in my head and makes me feel like Im somewhere far and distant. In a short time, I heard "Wind Journey 1". That was amazing. After I listened to it few more times, I was into it so much that I couldn't help buying it from Amazon.com. Just about every beat and sound seems to echoe as if it was played outside where nothing surrounds you and where the music can travel and be heard. Listen to the samples and decide. Buying this cd is something to consider.
What a surprise and completely different from the last CD.......2001-09-27
The last Eric Wollo CD featured wonderful virtuoso guitar, most closely akin to a "fingerpicking" style. Each piece was different, almost like a "best of" CD. This CD is completely different in that the artist uses the guitar as part of a series of thematic atmospheric tone poems based on the idea of wind and its forms and effects. The overall feel of the music is very ambient, with the guitar used less as a melody-maker, and more as a symphonic, electronic instrument, almost like a timescape. The orchestration includes atmospheric electronic soundscapes within which the artist creates mood music of the highest quality. I was absolutely fascinated by the CD on first hearing it, and it only gets better with each re-playing as I discover new nuances to the music. What a master of the guitar this man is. I highly recommend that you take a listen to this CD, and take a journey into the wind with Mr Wollo. This is a thinking person's delight!!!

Beat-licious and Bold...!.......2006-02-08
Take smart, well-timed beats and some sexy vocals and you get one of the best compliation Lounge CD's I have ever heard. No joke!
Peter Malik feat. Norah Jones opens with 'NY City', filled with smooth drums and organs. Norah Jones smooth voice carries the beat to the end. The biggest surprise was Aya's 'Uptown'. A classy, almost early '90's sounding beat. Her sexy voice blends this into a beautiful and complex song. Metro Area's 'Strut' sounds as if Kashif was at the helm: Big moog sounds accompanied by drums - nice! Other bests are Tourtured Soul's 'I might do something wrong', Blue Six's 'Music and Wine', and Soldiers of Twilight 'City Life' (Nice song!!!).
This CD come highly recommnded, It will not dissappoint!

Thanks Bomp.......2001-08-01
Since most of these artist's LP's are out of print, it's nice to have a least one song by all these great overlooked bands. It's a shame that only big record company bands/artists are allowed to be heard on radio. If half these Bomp bands/artists had the big budgets behind them to promote them and keep them working and fed, we would have a ton of classic records flooding our record stores. To bad Greg Shaw (founder of Bomp) wasn't a very rich eccentric with and endless stream of cash to keep Bomp artist in the forefront of popular music. I'd much rather hear The Things and Miracle Workers new records every year (if they were able to afford to keep recording I'm sure there would be new releases from them ) than have to deal with new boring trends and lame bands to go with these boring trends every few years. The Things 'Everytime' still makes me wish they were still around making records. A GREAT band on a great compilation. Thanks Bomp!!
Bomp keeps rock and roll alive.......1998-10-19
Greg Shaw has pretty much kept the rock and roll flame alive with his Bomp label. This 2CD set is a great overview of the labels history. Power pop, gagare, psych-noise, its all here. Listening to this, you will discover what the essence of Rock and Roll is. Its charming, innocent, fun, simple yet complex. Hell, this is my favorite compilation after the great Nuggets album that Elektra put out in the 70's. In fadct most of these groups are highly influenced by that release. I say buy it!!!
