funker vogt style.......2007-07-30
for the lovers of electronic, and ebm , a very good Cd ; in pure style Funker Vogt !
We are to the same level of previous "Navigator", the best track is "City of Darkness" being involved, with nice lyric and much powerful ! the other track is good and rich of rhythm.

Someone give this band a pillow. They are tired........2007-07-29
I cannot believe half of the reviews for this or for Navigator.
I have been following the bad since the beginnings and thought them to be one of the fresh new faces of the genre. A band that will represent the new generation of "industrial" after such greats as Front 242, Frontline Assembly, Ministry etc.
I think their first two albums were new and innovating. Live they bought the house down and the crowds went ballistic. But I believe the band peaked with Machine Zeit. If anything buy that album instead of the recent two.
I do not understand what others are saying when they say "great production, hasn't left my cd player yet or lots of potential dance tracks"
This and Navigator is nothing but a bunch of repititious rubbish. If this was 1996 this album would be brilliant. Same tired lyrics which some do not even make sense, same beats, drum tracks etc. And the production is horrible or should I say horrible for something to be released in 2007.
Sadly it seems this genre does not know how to get out of the cliches it has built. When bands do tend to go beyond the dark or military lyrics etc they are ridiculed as sell outs.
When Front 242 started to take on that techno sound in 98' people ridiculed them. People just want that same tired formula that made them popular. But at least they took the risk to express themselves in other ways.
I am glad I bought this cd used and am glad there are two so my girlfriend and I can use them as drink coasters as its summer and we are drinking a lot of cold water lately.
For a music that is technology based and technology ever changing I thought when I got in to this music way back when that I would never tire of it. I only imagined what it would be like in 2007. How disillusioned I was.
Aggressive yet melodic.......2007-07-22
I am normally not a huge fan of distorted, gruff vocals in industrial music. I get pretty tired of it within a few songs. This is not the case with Funker Vogt. I actually enjoy lead singer Jens Kastel's distorted vocals coupled with the club-friendly, danceable music. AVIATOR is the band's latest effort. It is as melodic as their last studio album. The first cd consists of original tracks. My favorite songs has to be "Paralyzed", "Child Soldier", and "City of Darkness". The songs had a lot of energy, aggressive, and melodic. The only flaw with the band's sound is that the songs tends to sound alike. The second disc is a few bonus tracks as well as remixes. I didn't care much for the song "Deathmachine". I thought that was the worst Funker Vogt song I had ever heard. The remixes didn't really sound any different to me. Frankly they could have just skipped the second disc and I would have been perfectly happy with disc one. For the most part AVIATOR is a good industrial album but I think it is time for the band to up the ante and do something with their current sound which is a bit repetitious at times.
Niche music for Funkervogt.......2007-06-12
Aviator sits right cozy in FV's niche, just as Navigator and Survivor do. So much that it's really hard to tell them apart from each other. Aviator does have some dancable tracks..and then, so do the others. And to tell you the truth, if I weren't so familiar with the other albums, I would probably be very impressed with this album, for that, I'll give it a 4.
I would recommend for the band to diverisfy a bit - divert yourselves away from that cozy niche you've created for yourselves and take us offguard once again, like you did with Maschine Zeit!
THE CHILD DEVIANT.......2007-05-26
Another great album by the ever so political/Industrial/EBM band Funker Vogt! This edition is a 2CD, both are verry good. I think this is one of thier absolute best albums yet. Great production and lots of pottential club hits for people who like to dance to this kind of music. A good album to buy if your a fan of modern day Frontline Assembly.

While Howard Shore's Golden Globe-winning score offers a masterful orchestral impression of industrialist Howard Hughes' troubled psychic landscape, this collection of pop tunes, swing and le hot jazz musically frames the historical eras covered by Martin Scorsese's acclaimed biopic. The director (always intimately involved in his film's scoring and song choices) delivers a collection that's a shrewd illusion in its own right. Vintage performances by big band icons Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw and eclectic pop, jazz and blues by the Ink Spots, Bing Crosby, Django Reinhardt and Leadbelly are interspersed with contemporary performances that seamlessly replicate the 1920s-40s aura with deceptive grace. Rufus Wainwright playfully vamps the pop mannerisms of the day on Gershwin's "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise" and "After You've Gone" while sister Martha delivers a world-weary "I'll Be Seeing You." Elsewhere, David Johansen keeps his penchant for mugging well in check on the sprightly "Ain't Cha Glad," while fine contributions from Vince Giordano and The Manhattan Rhythm Kings complete the soundtrack's time-tripping musical sleight of hand. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Hooray For Hollywood!.......2007-07-15
This acclaimed film uses original recordings as background music, interspersed with live performances by Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks that are as authentic a recreation as you're likely to hear. You'll not pick that up from the track listings, though, which fail to credit Vince with his full complement of recordings, showing instead the names of the vocalists in most cases. If you love the music of the Roaring Twenties you will not be disappointed.
good movie.......2006-06-27
Some people may not like this movie and think that it is boring, I must agree that certain parts of this movie are boring. The plot of the story is good and very well written. If you like long movies about old times, you should definately go see this movie.
a dance from the past.......2006-01-16
......it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.......
Love This CD And Play It Over And Over.......2006-01-10
Others before me have said what I would have said, most notably The Rocketman and "Gimpy" Peach Johnson, except for one thing. I can't take the last song on the CD done by Leadbelly. Ah, that voice is worse than the horrible sound of chalk squeaking on a chalkboard. I had to get up and turn it off.
Other than that one selection, I love the rest of the CD especially Rufus Wainwright singing "I'll Build A Stairway To Heaven." I can't get that song out of my head. All day long I'm humming it.
Another thing is that it would be tough to find a CD with so many great hits from the past like this one has. If you like this type of music, you'll love the CD, Leadbelly aside.
Bring on the big guns!.......2005-08-29
Enjoyed the movie three times and this brings back all the memories of the flick.

Customer Reviews:
Live album with overdubs.......2005-06-18
This is a live CD that has been overdubbed in parts due to "technical difficulties". It gives the CD a strange sound, like someone playing along to their favorite songs.
This is Steve Earle just before he fell completely over the deep end. Normally, that might not be a bad thing. People like Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan have actually lost thier spark once they cleaned up. Sad to say, but some of the greatest music of all time comes from the drug addicted, including Jerry Garcia, Carlos Santana, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.
But, the problem with Earle is that he may have been too far gone. The other guys kept it under control and let it out in their music. Earle is paranoid and edgy.
Because of the sound problems and the performance, this not a great live CD. I think the studio versions of these songs are much better.
Earle does have a lot to say. But, I'm not sure that I always agree with Earle's good ol' boy, loser, paranoic view that the world is out to get you and that there is nothing you can do. I am also not so sure about his anti-death penalty stance. I don't favor making sympathetic characters out of murderers.
Not one of Earle's best.......2003-10-28
There is a generous amount of music--over 74 minutes which is a lot for the typical Steve Earle CD but you can find better renditions of these songs on his other CDs. Get Guitar Town and Copperhead Road if you want to hear most of these songs done in a studio. Also, I had eagerly anticipated hearing Earle's version of Dead Flowers but it isn't nearly as good as the original by The Stones.
Raw and ragged.......2003-01-03
This is a loose collection of live Earle music circa 1991. The band is just going through the motions and Earle's voice is at its most ragged, but it still remains an interesting time capsule of where Earle's career was at the time and some of the songs really thrive in the live setting. A good summation of Earle's earlier work and glimpse of an artist close to the edge of self destruction. Probably not the best example of his ability but an intriguing look at an artist whose life has had more than a few ups and downs.
Interesting Live CD.......2002-03-15
Recorded during a Canadian tour of the early 90's, this appears to be a fan's dream: a greatest hits package recorded live with Earle and the experienced Dukes performing at their peak-Earle, however, was in the depths of his drug addiction during this tour, so the performances are restless at best. A live reference to an incident in Ottawa points to Earle's growing spirit of social conscienceness. His stellar writing rescues this project, with new tour staples such as the anti-death penalty anthem "Billy Austin," the auto-biographical "I'm The Other Kind," and "West Nashville Boogie," (all from "The Hard Way") providing shining moments. A teasing "Guitar Town" is tell-tale: there are only shreds remaining of the exhuberant 27-year-old laureate who took the country and rock communities by storm only 4 years earlier. Most frightening is a transcending, gut-level version of Jimmy Rogers' "Blue Yodel #9," showing that Earle remembers from whenst he came, but leaving the listener wondering where Earle is going. Or if he'll survive the journey.
One of my favorite live-recordings ever........2001-12-14
This is THE essential Steve Earle recording. The set is stellar and the Dukes just flat-out rock live. Steve may have been a strung-out addict at the time but he sure does deliver. In fact, there isn't a trace of half-assing here. He does it all with heart and the gruffness in his voice gives tunes like "Billy Austin" an even bigger impact. I really loved the live version of "the Rain Came Down" and "Fearless Heart" has never sounded better.
This is one of the first cds I ever bought (I was eleven) and after a decade, it has yet to lose it's charm. The only difference, is now, I'm quite a bit older and the songs have much more meaning.

Martin Scorsese's energetic, visually rich biopic of billionaire industrialist Howard Hughes shrewdly eschews the strange, cloistered existence of the enigma's last quarter century to focus on his exploits as reckless heir, Hollywood playboy and record-setting aviator. The film's pop 'n' jazz oriented song-score colors its era and locales, but this rich, Golden Globe-nominated orchestral soundtrack by veteran Howard Shore explores the complex emotional landscape of its central character. Utilizing an orchestral palate that initially wends from the bright, neo-baroque promise of "Icarus" to the foreshadowing bombast of "Hollywood 1927" before turning ever more angular, modern and brooding, Shore's music increasingly gets beneath the skin of Hughes the man. It's a masterful symphonic portrait of an enfant terrible fighting a losing battle with his own demons, even as he's conquering every realm he chooses. --Jerry McCulley

Missing Song from Hells Angels War Scene & XF-11 Crash.......2006-03-09
There is a song that is not included on the CD, which is first used in the Hells Angels War Scene. It is also used at the beginning of the XF-11 Test Flight Scene before the plane crash. It is:
Composer: J.S. Bach
Song: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565
The part in the movie is actually the Fugue portion of the piece. There is good and accurate version of it on the album Bach Greatest Hits which is sold on amazon.com at:

Enjoy!
This is the SCORE, not the songs, from the movie........2005-09-07
The music is classical thoughout, and is melodic enough for a short listen, but tends to be a bit repetitive. It's important to note that this is the SCORE from the movie...not the songs. I bought it by mistake; thinking it was the collection of songs I had just listened to on Amazon. I ended up keeping it; ordered the correct one, and gave this one to my dad.
Shore does it.......2005-06-02
Obviously, Shore does it. I listen it once and I feel that it is fantastic. Remember, this is the true soundtrack from "The Aviator". Another black covered disc is just the music, not the original music. Keep that in mind.
Recommended tracks: All of them.
Trivia Answer.......2005-05-01
To answer the trivia question: a Golden Globe winner for Best Score, but amazingly left out of the running for the Academy Awards?
According to Daily Variety, there was too much actual music from the film's era incorporated into Shore's score for it to qualify as an original score.
Magnificent film score!!.......2005-02-14
There is no doubt about Howard Shore is one the most creative composers by this times. This score is simply one the best I have ever heard. The Golden Globe Award he received is pure justice. I can not understand why he did not receive an Academy Award for this oustanding masterpiece. Perhaps because he won last year?. None of the Oscar nominees scores for this years is better than this one. When I heard track 4, "H-1 Racer Plane ", I was inmediatelly transported into the movie. If you want to get this score, you will not be dissapointed. A class act!!

Product Description
Guitarist James Karnes and drummer/keyboardist Christopher Pomerenke harmonize like hyperventilating choirboys and are the demon-addled force behind such energized chicanery. They recalls suck noteables as rockabilly's Dex and Crow of Chapel Hill's Flat Duo Jets. The music is entertaining, crazed and frenetic, and doesn't take itself the least bit seriously. It's also tight as a bull's sphincter and funny as a bowl haircut. With a generous nod to Frank Zappa and any of the ear candy produced by the Knack, Les Payne (named after the reigning mayor of Nothing, Arizona) might remind folks of many things -- including half-familiar nursery rhymes, B-movie hooks or Perry Farrell's piercing shriek. The skill behind their shtick is as seasoned as it is abundant. Consider an epic ditty from their self-titled debut on Aviator Records called "At the Rodeo (Fireball)" -- a song that's as much rip-snorter as it is lilting ballad, demonstrating an uncanny ability to juggle not only the technical side of tempo, rhythm and speedy scale maneuvers, but the listener's emotions and expectations as well. It's a big, colorful sound, all right, made all the more impressive by the band's Siamese-twinned lineup. TRACKS: 1) We Are The Monster 2) At The Rodeo (Fireball) 3) Nice To Have You Here 4) Giving Up On Angels' Wings 5) Trippy Wicked Caffeine Buzz 6) Hey, Why Don't You Take A Break
