5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

It seems that all one has to do in R&B is maintain the status quo and the fans will open their hearts and wallets. Critics might yearn for innovation, but as song after song parades by in a blurring montage of predictability, it would appear that simply coloring within the lines is what the public wants. Into this realm walks Dru Hill as singer Sisqó with his maiden solo effort. Arguments will now be heard about how a solo record from the lead singer of an otherwise anonymous group differs from a record from said anonymous group. Who cares? Sisqó can sing and work the emotional heart out of the songs on Unleash the Dragon. We're talking getting the job done right and within those confines Sisqó does that, with an appealing growl and love-man swagger. --Amy Linden

3 out of 5 stars A Successful Solo Effort That Fueled A Craze For Thong Underwear (Thank You)!.......2007-06-20

Sisqo's solo debut entitled "Unleash The Dragon" was released on November 30, 1999. Though album sales sold moderately at first, as songs such as the infectious "Thong Song" and the melodic "Incomplete" rose up the charts, "Unleash The Dragon" exploded in popularity and ultimately fueled a craze for thong underwear! This album contains more than just a popular spring break anthem, however, there are a few songs that could be considered "fillers." Below, please find the rating for each song individually:

Unleash The Dragon (Featuring Beanie Sigel) - 10/10

Got To Get It (Featuring Make It Hot) - 10/10

Is Love Enough (Featuring Lovher) - 7/10

How Can I Love U 2nite - 6/10

Your Love Is Incredible - 7/10

So Sexual - 6/10

Thong Song - 10/10

Incomplete - 8/10

Addicted - 6/10

Enchantment Passing Through (Featuring Dru Hill) - 6/10

You Are Everything (Featuring Dru Hill & Ja Rule) (Remix) - 10/10

4 out of 5 stars A very solid product. He made the transition from group to solo artist smoothly!.......2007-06-20

And after the slump that was Enter The Dru, Sisqo comes back as a solo artist and does wonders.

I'll do a song by song rating. Hopefully, I'll keep it short and sweet.

1. Unleash The Dragon Feat. Beanie Sigel - This is a good way to start off the CD. 8/10

2. Got To Get It Feat. Make It Hot - This song is really good. Even the rap from Make It Hot fits well. 8.5/10

3. Is Love Enough Feat. Lovher - Ever since the first time I heard this song, I loved it. It's my second favorite song. 10/10

4. 2Nite (Interlude) - It's pretty damn good for an interlude. Sometimes they're pointless but this one leads into the song, How Can I Love You 2Nite perfectly. 8/10

5. How Can I Love You 2Nite - I love this song. And the chorus is good and that's a big part of the song because it's repeated. It doesn't get annoying at all. This is definitely my favorite here. Slow and sexy jam. 10/10

6. Your Love Is Incredible - This song is solid. It's not as good as the last song or Is Love Enough and it seems a bit on the filler side but I promise, it's not bad. 8/10

7. So Sexual - This song rocks. No filler material here. Like the guitar towards the end. It adds a bit of latin flair. Chorus is a bit repetitive but not overly so. Third favorite song. 9/10

8. Thong Song - This song was so damn popular in 2000. I thought I was going to puke the next time I heard it but I didn't. It's still a solid song. 8/10

9. Incomplete - I like this song's message. Fame and fortune aren't everything to Sisqo. He tries to get his point across that he needs a special woman in his life; without, he is nothing. 8.5/10

10. Addicted - Real nice filler. It flows nicely but never takes off. 8/10

11. Dru World Order (Interlude) - An interlude dedicated to the group, Dru Hill. It's not bad...It fits, I guess. 7.5/10

12. Enchantment Passing Through Feat. Dru Hill - This song was written by Elton John! Anyway, it's not bad, but it doesn't really fit with the other songs. The weakest track here but Dru Hill sounds amazing. Decent filler. 7.5/10

13. You Are Everything (Remix) Feat. Dru Hill and Ja Rule - Nice beat. Solid track. Decent note to leave the album on. 8/10

It makes my heart sing to know that Sisqo, or Mark Andrews had a part in writing most of these songs. I plan to be a singer/songwriter and I find it inspirational when others do it for themselves.

This CD is pretty good. 4 stars and highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars A Successful Solo Effort That Fueled A Craze For Thong Underwear (Thank You)!.......2006-06-24

Sisqo's solo debut entitled "Unleash The Dragon" was released in November of 1999. Though album sales sold moderately at first, as songs such as the infectious "Thong Song" and the melodic "Incomplete" rose up the charts, "Unleash The Dragon" exploded in popularity and ultimately fueled a craze for thong underwear! I can personally assure you that this album contains more than just a popular spring break anthem; from start to finish, this is a solid R&B album. The highlights of the album include: "Unleash The Dragon," "Got To Get It," "Thong Song," and "You Are Everything (Remix)" featuring Ja Rule.

Warning: this album does include some baby makin' music!

5 out of 5 stars The man, the myth, the legend!!.......2006-01-20

Formerly of Dru Hill, Sisqo is taking America by storm, proving he's much much much more than a one-hit wonder. Get this fantastic solo debut. Don't miss, or you'll regret it.

4 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD ALBUM........2005-12-23

Sisqo is a great entertainer and he doesn't have the best singing voice, but he surely knows how to make a song his own. Besides his voice, he knows how to dazzle on stage. As one of the lead vocals for the famous group DRU HILL, Sisqo always stood out from the rest and he was never was hated being the lead singer like Beyonce. UNLEASH THE DRAGON is a great solo debut and Sisqo captured everyone's attention with songs like "THE THONG SONG" and "INCOMPLETE". Suprisingly, Sisqo fell off the map and has disappeared for a long time but he's coming out with a new album in 2006. Be prepared for THE LAST DRAGON which will blow everyone away.

Album Description

Neo-classical rock guitar legend Yngwie J. Malmsteen returns with Rising Force with Unleash The Fury, a guitar shredder's dream album! From the opening riff of "Locked & Loaded" to the 4 instrumental numbers, Malmsteen and Rising Force (Dougie White - Vocals, Patrick Johansson - Drums, Joakim Svalberg - Keyboards), produce an album that excels in every facet of musicianship. Two of the instrumentals ("Fuguetta" and "Paraphrase") are both variations of themes composed by Bach, while "Cherokee Warrior" allows Malmsteen to show off his vocal talents as well.

A former member of Steeler and Alcatrazz, Yngwie J. Malmsteen turned the music world on its heads when his Rising Force album was released in 1984. The album hit #60 on the Billboard charts and earned him a Grammy® nomination. His next album Trilogy would continue to showcase Malmsteen's high standard of excellence, which continues to this day.

Yngwie J. Malmsteen is one of rock's greatest guitar heroes. He continues to be a featured draw in every guitar-oriented magazine on the planet. With a mix of technical playing, appreciation for classical composers, and hard rock edginess, Malmsteen is one of the most respected players around. He performed in the G3 tour in 2003 with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

5 out of 5 stars Unleash the Fury - Ingwie Malmsteen.......2007-03-15

Ingwie Malmsteen is one of the best hardrock guitar player.
Phantastic technic and music quality! Me like very.

5 out of 5 stars His best metal CD to date.......2007-03-08

Not one bad song. Not one cheesy ballad. Just pure metal and pure Yngwie.

3 out of 5 stars A surprise (almost) return to form.......2006-11-16

OK I gotta admit, the level of expectation for this album even from long timr devotees such as myself was tiny. And at the time of this albums release (2005) Yngwie had all the profile of an ant on the metal scene radar. But this album ain't half bad. Sure, after the horrific tryptych of Alchemy, War to End All Wars and the abominable Attack! the sound of a surgeon sawing your leg off would probably sound OK, but this album starts to recall the mid to late 90's second purple patch for the Swedish fretboard burner.

The opener Locked and Loaded (rips live by the way) gets down to business with few prissy pretensions and the second tune of Revolution is also a bonafide rocker. In fact this album is a touch like Attack! in that the majority of the songs are straight ahead rockers. Except the quality here is a vast improvement. And Yngwies production job is more in the mid spectrum of the sound range which means not everything is high pitched white noise which is an impression that's stuck in my mind in regards to War to End All Wars.

Other points to consider are the 18 tracks which would normally stunt an album but the feel of this album isn't half bad. It doesn't feel plodding when you listen to it from end to end. A few obligatory instrumentals do help to break things up a little though none of those here really grabbed me. I'd far prefer to the rockin' tune Cracking the Whip than yet another pretentious solo with a latin/muso name like Fuguetta.

Still playing wise the guy still has it and here there is a real sense of passion and urgency on this disc that has been missing from some of his recent albums. And some of the tunes do show some mobility, for example Winds of War (Invasion) which has a start reminiscent of the ballad come rocker Final Curtain from the Fire & Ice album only to swerve into a slow and weighty rocker. A number of other tracks here are also heavied up by being slowed down - not that it works for all the tracks it's tried on but this is something Yngwie has started to do a little more so it's nice to see some belated development from the guy.

Lyric wise this is the same sort of stuff Yngwie always blathers on about. Cold Scandinavian concerts totally in keeping with his history and gothic leanings. Though at least by not dealing much with issues or real life he can't exactly date, though there is some loss of human connectivity with such an approach.

I like this album. Can't give it more than three stars though as it IS a touch naff lyrically in places, slightly overlong and he hasn't gotten fully into stride again but for longtime fans or lapsed fans this is a good buy.

By the way - the enhanced section of this CD isn't much to write home about. Get yourself one of his tutorial videos for greater insight. But at least he's trying to add a little extra value and keep currenty.

And Yngwies band this week - Dougie White on vox here sounding vastly more comfortable and part of the team, Joakim Svalberg (keys) and Patrick Johansson (D).

3 out of 5 stars Really Just More Of The Same.......2006-11-08

I cut my teeth technically as a guitar player on the Rising Force and Marching Out albums so I'll always have respect for Yngwie for giving us those 2 albums. At that time his technical ability and style were novel and us guitarists took note. However, I agree with most of the lukewarm reviews here. Yngwie does recycle the same old diminished runs, harmonic minors runs and scalar patterns over and over and has done so on every album since those 2 aforementioned. It would be refreshing to hear him do some soloing in a major key for instance...I know he can do it...he almost never does though. This style of music needs to have alot of refreshing nuance, tempo changes, and scale variations and arpeggios to be interesting...Yngwie doesnt seem to want to explore new musical areas...he needs too...Having said that this album isnt horrible...its simply just more of the same.

5 out of 5 stars Muy parecido a los discos ochenteros.......2006-08-21

Tambien recomiendo Attack!!! y Concerto with electric guitar in E flat minor

I ordered Speedsleep II approximately two weeks ago. It arrived promptly and I have used it nearly every day. I am beginning to feel more energy, find myself making better food selections, and am now able to get up earlier everyday and exercise. I am very impressed! As a family practitioner, I have referred many patients to a local hypnotherapist and have seen good results. I also have had hypnotherapy with good, but temporary, effectveness. Your product has been so successful for me because I have been able to repeatedly use it. Thanks!
As a physician, I would rather recommend a CD to a patient
with ineffective sleep habits that write a prescription.

In the three years since his last CD Revolutions in Sound, Garth's label Grayhound, has had its catalogue swell to over 50 singles.

Unleash The Hound features exclusive Grayhound material, selected and mixed with love by label founder and director Garth. For optimum fidelity he used all vinyl and an Urei mixer. No edits.

In the ten years since he has produced 40 records as Rocket and Wicked including remixes for The Glimmers, Perry Farrell, Yabby You, and A Tribe Called Quest. When not running the label from his hometown San Francisco he's a regular guest at London's Fabric, Yellow in Tokyo, and Sullivan Room in NYC. 5 out of 5 stars Absoluetly amazing!!!.......2007-06-29

To be honest, I never expected it to be anything like this. In a way, reminds me so much of Jeno!!! It is an amazing album. Very deep wicked sound. I have all his tapes and CD collections but this one is so different. Garth just takes you back to the old times (old wicked community parties) with a new sound. All the tracks are great but some are just too good that makes me sick. Tracks such as Busted, Back Breakin, Machine Life, 2 Bullets (amazing old sound which will make anyone stand up and give respect), Carlton Hotel by Charles Spencer, Say something by Nectar, Beats and tings by Charles again. Charles is just amazing!!! he has some crazy, sick tracks. He is certainly one of my favorite producers. Overall, great job Garth!!! and thank you for taking me back!!! I mean way back. If you love deep wicked sound, don't wait, get this because it is a very unique sound.

3 out of 5 stars Suffers the North American airplay syndrome.......2006-06-07

This was a first North American release in a long time.

It suffers like Innocence is No Excuse and Rock the Nations in wimping out in a number of songs in order to get North American airplay, or increased sales.

Not as good as previous recordings like Dogs of War, Solid Ball of Rock, where there was no such pressure.

I bet you, the cuts that did not make the recording, would have if not for this North American airplay syndrome, and made it comparable to such non-North American recordings

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Saxon Album.......2004-07-02

During the 1990's when heavy metal had lost some of it's popularity and was seen by many as a style of music that belonged to a decade past, Saxon stood tall as champions of the genre and continued to provide us metalheads with what we wanted to hear.

Saxon started the '90s with "Solid Ball Of Rock" which is exactly what that album was, followed by "Forever Free" in '93. 1995 saw the release of another of their better albums in "Dogs Of War", but it was "Unleash The Beast" in 1997 which was their best album since the early-mid '80's.

Doug Scarrat made his debut with the band on this album, replacing original member Graham Oliver on guitar, and whilst it is always sad when an original member goes, Scarrat fitted in perfectly and injected a freshness to the Saxon sound.

Saxon started to build a more aggressive, harder sound in the '90's after their more commercial sounding late '80's albums and with Dogs Of War this was most evident. Again they took another step in the harder direction with Unleash The Beast, and I think they hit it right on with this album.

The album has a great dark gothic picture on the cover, and mirrors the album perfectly, which starts off with the intro "Gothic Dreams". The album has a darker tone than previous Saxon albums, and the band experiments more with their sound whilst still maintaining that classic Saxon sound all us fans love. Following the intro is the great opener "Unleash The Beast" and this is exactly what Saxon have done. After a big intro of crashing drums and Byford's scream the guitars rip in and the pace picks up, with this being one of the faster tracks on the album. The next track "Terminal Velocity" keeps up the pace, with that classic Saxon guitar driven rock, and Byford getting a slightly more aggressive tone to his vocals. This song really pumps in the style of past songs such as Solid Ball Of Rock.

"Circle Of Light" again is dark and aggressive, a song about a person's life in the balance, when the next world beckons and the next few seconds will decide which path is taken.

The next song "The Thin Red Line" is my favorite song on the album, and one of my all time Saxon favorites. Perhaps only the great Iron Maiden can do battle/war songs as well as Saxon, but this is a great one to sing along to, with that classic Saxon melodic chorus. It also has a quieter moment in the middle of it when the guitars die down and Nibb's base just pumps along, before a great guitar solo breaks in. This conveys the calm before combat or during a lull in it, and builds again into the clash of warriors in battle.

"Ministry Of Fools" picks up the pace a bit again and also has a great chorus. It also gives a much-deserved slap to those supposed "respected" people who hold positions of authority in society and influence our lives.

"The Preacher" is another song with a dark undertone, but also a great intro that builds into that guitar driven rock sound.

"Bloodletter" is more frantic and aggressive, the fastest paced song on the album with great guitar work.

"Cut Out The Disease" again has a dark tone but also has a more experimental sound with timing changes, acoustic guitars and quieter moments, and great crashing heavy guitars. It is a different type of song to the classic Saxon of the past, but it is a great song that still has that unmistakable Saxon sound.

"Absent Friends" shows the band experimenting again, this time with a more mellow sounding acoustic song reflecting on the unexpected passing of friends. It has a good guitar solo in the middle, and it's mellow sound adds a good variance amongst the other heavier tracks.

"All Hell Breaking Loose" finishes off the album in the rapid fire, fast paced Saxon way. It's a good album closer.

To summarise, this is perhaps the most consistent album Saxon has ever recorded. There is not one bad song on it. It sounds dark but fresh, hard and aggressive with great guitar work, and Biff Byford's voice sounds just as good as ever (if not better).

This album is a must have for all Saxon fans, or if you just appreciate good classic sounding metal (real metal). Saxon has released many great albums and fantastic songs, but of them all "Unleash The Beast" is my favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Return to Glory..........2004-05-16

This was the first Saxon album I had purchased since the 1990 release of "Solid Ball of Rock" (which had me losing interest in Saxon, as that release sounded one dimensional and lacking any emotion). This album oozes energy, fire and captures the soul the boyz had back in the early 1980's. There is not a bad song on this album, and a highlight here that exemplifies the Saxon that hooked and solidified me as a fan with "Denim and Leather" and "Strong Arm of the Law" releases, is the song "Thin Red Line." The guitars are strong and forceful here, and foreward the rapid fire energy of the early days. Biff Byford has never sounded better, and the songwriting is very professional and entertaining, losing the corny subject matter representation of the last few albums. For fans new to Saxon, this is an excellent place to start, and then pick up the newer release, which is a more groove oriented hard rock opus, "Killing Ground." THEN go back and experiment with the roots stuff of "Wheels of Steel," "Denim and Leather" and "Strong Arm of the Law." There is such a tremendous history.....but don't purchase all of the stuff (unless you are a Saxon Metalhead like me), as the group really has not veered much from the formula that has made these five albums successful.

4 out of 5 stars Saxon - 'Unleash The Beast' (CMC International).......2004-04-10

Glad to see that Saxon STILL exists to this day.I've debated with other fans that 'Unleash...' is just as good as their 1990 effort 'Solid Ball Of Rock'This disc has three original/classic members: vocalist Biff Byford, drummer Nigel Glocker and guitarist Paul Quinn. All cuts here are good, but the best include the brief intro "Gothic Dreams",the title track,"Terminal Velocity","Thin Red Line" and "The Preacher".The last three I listed DEFINITELY have the classic feel of old Saxon. You know what I'm talking about...it makes you feel like dumping beer over people's heads and causing a disturance in the AM hours.Like most Saxon albums, this one features a nifty ballad,"Absent Friends" which,of course showcases a mellower side of the band.Nice scary cover.

5 out of 5 stars best one since power and the glory!.......2004-02-25

4 out of 5 stars Old-school. You know the routine. Time to go........2006-02-17

This is a neat little EP, and I had the luck of seeing Soman perform live on the VNV Nation Formation Tour in the US. And damn if I don't listen to this EP more than I listen to all of VNV now.

This is old-school sounding electronica for industrial fans. The songs were tightly-knit, extremely well-produced, and as cool as hell. The beats are absolutely relentless, which each song containing MANY, MANY different drum sounds and motions. The mainstay of these songs is the 4x4 beat, but there is so much drum activity going on you won't care. Distortion abounds, and it is wonderful!

The synths follow their own little runs without too much progression, but enough to keep the songs on-track and interesting.

Many of the songs use build-ups and break-downs to great effect. This is music to play LOUD. It's exciting to listen to and it really gets your blood flowing. If Amazon ever posts samples, I wouldn't necessarily decide whether to buy based on them. You can hear Soman's work in remixes of "Chrome" by VNV Nation and "Shelter" by Combichrist. If this quality of songwriting gets put into album form, you be sure that it will be an album to remember.

If you like Sisqo this is the cd for you. Every song is great. The thing that parents don't like are the lyics in "Thong Song" and a few other songs. Otherwise you will listen to the Cd all day. This Cd goes great with "Return of the Dragon."

4 out of 5 stars One of the best debuts of 2000........2001-09-24

Well, I guess I should say solo debut since he was with Dru Hill before, but still, this is good. I own Sisqo's first two solo albums and I definitely think that this one is better. It has arguably the greatest summer anthem of all-time in "Thong Song", a couple of great rap songs in the title track and "You Are Everything" feat Ja Rule, and some nice R&B songs in "Incomplete", "Got to Get It", and "Enchantment Passing Through" feat Dru Hill. I think that one of the big reasons that adults are put off by this album is simply the lyrics in "Thong Song". If you sit and listen to the rest of the album though, he only has a couple of other tracks where he says anything even remotely bad. I think that one of the other reasons that I like this album so much is because since he made this, Sisqo has sort of sold out. When this came out though, he wasn't as big as he is now yet, so the songs were more original.
