Voivod has always been one of the most bizarre metal bands in the universe, incorporating cyberpunk concepts and futuristic rhythms in its songs years before Keanu Reeves even heard of Johnny Mnemonic. Negatron continues the band's crusade to discover strange new worlds. Even without original psycho vocalist Snake, who seems to have slipped into a black hole, Voivod furiously combs the galaxy, creating atypical space metal that burns like rocket fuel. Negatron is equally abstract, but slightly more melodically cohesive than the band's past offerings, allowing Voivod to rope in curious newcomers without losing its stranglehold on its weird and devoted following. --Jon Wiederhorn

Voivod Kicks it hard and heavy.......2007-06-30
I never knew who these guys were until I heard Angel Rats.I think that cd stinks but some fans think it's great.I happen to like what these guys do here, great drummer man.
Good riffs.Fast, hard and punchy.Nothing more to say man.Except,under-appreciated masterpiece and band.
Voivod sounding like Exodus? .......2006-04-28
I gave this record a few listen and unfortunately it was not to my liking. This album is NOT what Voivod is supposed to sound. Eric Forrest brought in a "death metal" like voice into the band, Piggy and Away composed most of the music. This album is kinda like a re-hash on 'War and Pain' with all the "death metal-esque" vocals and has very poor mix. The mix sounded like all the guitars, bass and drums are overlapping Eric Forrest's vocals. You can bearly hear him singing. This album is pretty sloppy to my liking. Eric Forrest's singing is unlike Snake and his bass techniques are unlike Blacky. His techniques are not bad, but not great either. It's NOT what Voivod should have sounded like on this album. True Voivodians would be disapointed.
Powerful and very dark.......2006-04-03
This is as close as they get to sounding like Killing Technology, and with them doing this without Snake is amazing as hell. I've seen VOIVOD on this tour and they were not that well promoted. This album had the makings of one of the best that VOIVOD produced because this was showing all the newer bands how it was done. They took what Pantera did and made it better than what Pantera did -- and PANTERA was influenced by VOIVOD with the loud guitars. Piggy had some fun with toy ray guns for some of the effects. I got to check out his new band and if you like the Negatron-era VOIVOD this new band of his is just as good and sometimes has the heavier tendicies. INSECT if given to the right crown would induce one of the most violent mosh pits. I heard Eric rip into Killing Technology live and that was an amazing rendition. I could imagine Snake coming in and doing these tracks if Eric came on stage with them, I would love to see both eras of VOIVOD actually tour together. Blower stepped away from hard thrash but hearing Eric -- it made VOIVOD go to a newer level and made them a pissed off band. This album was one of the most pissed off they've done.
Not their best, but still recommended........2004-07-19
Upon first listen, I was ready to write this one off. However, repeated listening has raised my opinion of it. Voivod are a band that has always changed from record to record while always managing to maintain their unique qualities. This album is a return to the raw aggression of their early albums, but without neglecting the textural craftmanship which they mastered in the interim. The song structures are simple and direct on the surface, but with subtle off-kilter elements twisting and turning beneath. This is probably the most dissonant, industrial-sounding album in Voivod's history. Forrest's vocals are VERY different from Snake's, but once you accept that, you realize how well they fit in with the material. Give it a chance, it'll grow on you. The multimedia extras that come with the cd are nice as well (I've always loved Away's art).
Thrash/Experimental Metal.......2004-04-19
Yes, it does sound like (Thrash/Experimental). I don't see a problem if a band were trying new different things, "as long as the new ideas are good!!".
The music is atmospheric, very heavy and original. The band does not go by rules or badly want to belong to roots of metal music. (...).
I think fans of indie/noise bands like The Jesus Lizard, Big Black, Shellac..etc would enjoy music of Eric Forest-era Voivod.
Too bad Eric had broke his back in a tour van accident the band had when they were touring and now they had their original singer back.
