4 out of 5 stars The only thing holding it back is the production.......2007-06-29

This is the BEST Malevolent Creation album, albeit not my favorite. The production on this album is horrible. It sounds like it was recorded through a tunnel with you at the end.

With that out of the way, the songs on here are the strongest material they've ever written. The songs chug along with great riffs and good (by death metal standards) solos. The drumming DEFINITELY got better with the addition of Alex Marquez (I'm sorry, I couldn't stand Mark Simpson's drumming) and the drums don't sound one-dimensional.

This is the fastest 38 minutes I think I've ever heard. Most albums I have, I can FEEL the length, but for some reason, this comes and goes quickly, making me need to hear it twice! Great buy!

5 out of 5 stars It Is Rather Sad..........2007-06-02

...that such an album like this just had to have production ceased. Malevolent Creation is a band that has remained active for years and is still going strong. The band's 2nd album, "Retribution", is a classic death metal released in the year of 1992, and it is definitely their strongest point in their career. The music is rather reminscent to bands such as Morbid Angel and Suffocation, as the band like to throw in quite a mixture in there. Whether it would be a thrashy moment like "Eve of the Apocalypse" or "Slaughter of Innocence" to a slower break like in "Coronation Of Our Domination", or even the Death reminscent "The Coldest Survive", MC can deliver it excellent. Brett Hoffman is a vocalist that I can describe as unique. He reminds me of Chuck Schuldiner, but with a lower pitch, and out of all the vocalists MC had, I prefer him, as he IS original. Jason Blachowicz is such an excellent and underrated bassist; he could easily be in league with Steve Digorgio (Sadus, Human era Death) and Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse). Drumming by Alex Marquez is fantastic. Phil and Rob do excellent at riffs and solos. Overall, the math comes to an excellent sophomore effort.

My summary: If you love vintage death metal that originated from the East Coast, by all means do not hesitate to get this album. You might have to download it, as it is out of print, but it'll be great nonetheless. Make sure to also check out The Ten Commandments by this band as well.

5 out of 5 stars Malevolent at there Best!.......2007-03-16

This is the heaviest, brutalist, deadly cd i have ever put on. Its weird like its got its groovy parts in the song which puts these guys ahead of there time. Its like the Pantera groove but in death metal but has Slayer's crushing riffs. This is a keeper for anyone in metal. Its god like with Rob Barrett on guitars. And the drumming with Brent Hoffman's vokills it just flows. A must have cd!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Very good!!!!.......2007-01-31

A death metal milestone!!! This album along with "The ten commandments" and "Stillborn" exemplifies the death metal genre in the pure form. Good guitar riffs, excellent vocals and incredible drumming. A must have for the death metal aficionado. This album is out of print and hard to find but if you find it, buy it!! You won't regret it!!!

5 out of 5 stars Enter the Systematic Execution.......2005-08-13

I'm honestly surprised by how few death metal fans are actually aware of Malevolent Creation. They are one of the best Death Metal bands out there and have existed since 1987. Any Malevolent Creation album with Brett Hoffman on vocals is the perfect place to start. There are few Death Metal bands that stand up to this guy. I like what reviewer Oddity said about this record, in that it is Brett's vocal and lyrical ability that bands like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Etc. lack in their music. Those guys probably sit and write the lyrics in five minutes and tend to grunt the words together. As a result, all their songs the same and you can't take it too seriously (seriousness is something I like in my music) and becomes boring. Where as the way Brett Hoffman growls and projects his voice and the way he write the songs, you can tell, or at least get the feel that he is dead serious about it and honestly sounds like he came from Hell (and I don't say that too often). Also the Drums, Bass and Guitar are excellent. Just check out my particularly favorite song titled Mindlock for proof. If you like Death Metal like Vader then this definitely for you.

An interesting thing about Malevolent Creation is that their lineup practically changes on every album, keeping them fresh. It's sad that Roadrunner decided to discontinue most of their Malevolent Creation albums. Get a copy of this as quickly as possible off eBay or something; you'll be glad you did. Hopefully they will re-release these but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon. This is difficult to find but the search is worth it. It shreds, it pounds, it screams, it kills, it owns. Just hunt down a copy and you'll be one happy head banger.

Interesting Fact: This album was produced by Scott Burns, who also Produced Sepultura's Arise and Beneath the Remains. His great production shines on this record as well as those.

5 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time.......2007-07-21

Old school Death Metal has always seem to stand the test of time more then Thrash (at least that is my opinion) and Malevolent's debut album, "The ten Commandments" is a excellent collabration of old school Flordia Death Metal. Ten tracks, nine of them outstanding, one flutters a bit, but thats an easy five star effort from a band, even that has gone through many changes, are still putting out great music. If you are new to the band, forget The Best of Malevolent Creation, it is basically this album and Retribution. Just get this and Retribution (which isnt as good as this, but close) and you are sure to be a fan of Malevolent Creation very quickly.

    4 out of 5 stars My second-favorite MC album..........2007-06-29

First off, to set the record straight, the reviewer below incorrectly stated the drummer is Dave Culross on this one, it's actually Mark Simpson.

With that said, I know everyone wonders "Why not 4 stars?" The drumming on this album is horrific, but it honestly fits the songs perfectly. I really do enjoy this album. The only gripe is, Simpson doesn't use "blast beats", he more or less hits both the drum pedals with the snare, so it just doesn't sound right; however, again, it fits the music perfectly.

The production on this album is solid considering the date it was created. I love this album, and I still remember the first time I heard "Sacrificial Annihilation". I couldn't tell it was Brett Hoffman. I had heard "Envenomed" first.

I think this is one of the few albums where the intro track actually fills it up and leads it nicely.

Get this classic, it's worth it.

    5 out of 5 stars A killer debut album........2007-03-25

Wow what a great debut album from Malevolent Creation, The Ten Commandments became one of the most brutal and unrelenting death metal releases of the early 90's. Brett Hoffman delivers some viscous and scorching vocals you'll deffenitely feel the hatred and anger in his voice especially in songs like Multiple stab wounds and Impaled Existence where his voice gets electronicaly distorted to sound more evil during the middle of the song not to mention the awesome solo from Phil and great drumming from Dave Colross, the entire band shows alot of technical proficiency and speed on this album with classic songs like Impaled Existence, Multiple stab wound, thou shall kill ect. the whole album's great. The production on this album was quite good and as mentioned by other reviewers it was done by Scott Burns who is very well known among the heavy metal community, this album is very dark and morbid and makes other death metal groups seem pathetic in comparison it addreses topics like dismemberment, torture, the occult and human sacrifice and what makes it more effective is the tortured but clear vocals so you could hear what Brett Hofman is singing about, one of my favorite songs Decadence within he says "why doesn't god hear you PRAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!" as hes imaganing mutilating his victim which is a very scary thought and then the last track Molevolent creation which has got to be one of the best death metal songs ever Brett lets out a huge scream this track is completely devastating and has some thunder and lightning sound fx and nice guitar riffs. This is a true death metal classic from this highly underrated band the follow up release Retribution was just as good so make sure you get both of these albums before they run out of stock on Amazon, this is actually a shame cause Malevolent's entire catalogue should be re-released they have some great stuff that more fans should listen to.

4 out of 5 stars Underrated By The Death Metal Community, Overrated By Amazon Reviewers.......2006-07-14

Ok, so I only gave it four stars, but wait!!! Before all you death metal heads decide to impale me on an inverted cross, know that I believe The Ten Commandments is really good stuff and I totally recommend it to lovers of extreme metal. I just don't give out five stars as easily as many others do. Here's the deal: this album gets an A+ for production and an A+ for performance. My gripe? For an album released in 1991, it has just a bit too much of a "been there, done that" feel to it. Had I never heard albums such as Reign in Blood, Darkness Descends and Pleasure to Kill, I would probably consider this the holy grail of metal history. Alas, that is not the case. But again, don't get me wrong!!! This is a great album that deserves a place in every 'bangers collection. The speed is great, and that drummer is PHENOMENAL!!! Personal favorites: "Thou Shall Kill," "Sacrificial Annihilation" and "Malevolent Creation."

    5 out of 5 stars The "R" is right.......2006-04-12

    To quote from him:

"Malevolent Creation are definitely one of the most underrated death metal bands in the history of the genre. I don't know what it is that causes some people to say negative things about this band. I think it could be one of a few things; people have not heard the correct "era" of the band (Brett Hoffman). People think they have heard them because of their somewhat generic sounding name, or people are generally cretins who think they know a whole hell of a lot more than they know. I feel it could be a well rounded mix of all of the previous three elements.

Don't think of me as biased in my opinion that Hoffman is the best of the three Malevolent singers. It's simply factually true. Symons is not even second as Blachowitz does a better job than the Hateplow vocalist. It is simply ridiculous when I hear a review of Warkult and how people like Symons generic growls more than the screams and groans that Hoffman emits on the 5 albums on which he appears.

More to the point, Hoffman kills it on the first two releases and has his moments on the third, not to mention, comes back to form on Envenomed and Fine Art. This album is definitely worth your first purchase, but Retribution gives it a run for it's money. The speed and death combo on this album is brutal and the playing is tight. The riffs played create a wall of sound that is thick, fast, and heavy, making for a cool twist on typical death metal.

Lyrically, Hoffman is awesome. I feel he has had some of the best lyrics in death metal. What is cool is that he incorporates sophisticated wordplay without getting too technical. I find the lyrics are very impersonal ala Slayer (another band who is lyrically unmatched). He has the ability to describe as a spectator what he is lyrically conveying. While he is not talking about anything you have not heard before, it is really cool that it is not a forum for the opinions of the band and rather a situation being unemotionally described by a nonplussed and unaffected bystander. I find that some statements are to be made with music, but often, death metal may not be the correct circuit on which the sentiment should travel. Hoffman is at his best when he groans for apparently no reason during a breakdown, or screams a hook at the top of his lungs. He sounds totally pissed!

It is a shame that Hoffman has had so much trouble with his drug and alcohol addictions in his life. They led to his being a shell of his former self and his eventual firing as Malevolent's lead singer. He does have a band currently called Down the Drain (possibly a reflection on his career?) which has a site and demos for sale online. But, while I have not heard it, I can bet it is not as Malevolent as his previous vocal exploits.

If finding the first two albums is too hard, pick up the Best of as it is very very good (the Roadrunner, not the other one). Oddly though, Deron Miller of the band CKY (who SUCKS!!!) does the liner notes for this as wells as other roadrunner "Vault Series" albums. He must have done research because it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone who listened to music as good as this (especially when it first came out) to play music as bad as they do. I just have to say it again C gay Y SUCK!!! It's a testament to the fact that if your brother gets on TV (he's on TV grabbing men's balls half naked during creepy homoerotic exploits no less. Man, you guys should have gotten that out of your system while you were on the high school football team!) your garbage band can get play for it. In the words of Curt Cobain "that makes me sad" (wait a second maybe it was Morrisey, or maybe it was Thom Yorke, or was it Keith Caputo? aw hell I don't know).

Anyway, this album is great, and you definitely should buy it."

You're 100% absolutely right about this album, this band, and its history. Brett Hoffman is the best vocalist of the 3 of this band and MC is an underrated but highly talented and superb Death Metal band. I hate it when critics cry hell upon Brett's voice and decide that either Blachowicz's or Symons' voice is better. Either they don't appreciate MC's earliest material or they're just idiots who like the monotone and unimpressive low death grunts that is albeit still predominantly used by most Death Metal bands and the Death Metal bands as of today (yes, that means you Deathz head). Any Metalhead who doesn't like Brett Hoffman's voice is not a true fan of Malevolent Creation.

5 out of 5 stars Classic death metal release!!.......2006-12-28

Malevolent Creation on their peak, period!!! The songs are heavy, not faster than "Ten Commandments" or "Retribution", but really good. The production is not good at all, but remember this album came out on 93', you know... if you are a MC fan like me, this is essential but hard to find and out of print, also check out "The Ten Commandments" and "Retribution", believe me, this three albums are the only worth buying!!

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC MALEVOLENT CREATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-11-14

I LOVE THIS RECORD. I remember in '93 when Stillborn came out everybody hated it? I cant see why. Sure the music is a bit slower but I think its killer. I think the songwriting is excellent. Title track Stillborn is one of the heaviest Deathmetal songs ever composed. Geared for Gain and Ethnic Cleansing are skull fracturing. Brett Hoffman's vocals are brutal as hell. The production is thick, with a lot of low end. Basically Stillborn is a lot like Retribution only the songs are more mid paced. I think Stillborn is Malevolent Creation's finest hour. I know allot of you will disagree but this album just really grows on you over the years. Plus the artwork is killer as well. If you dont have this album GET IT TODAY or you are seriously missing out on a Classic Deathmetal album.

    BUY OR DIE!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars To give ANYTHING 5 stars isn't warrented, but.......2006-06-09

this album does not deserve all the slagging it gets. Stillborn was my first exposure to MC. I was working at a music review mag in NYC in the early-mid 90s, when this cassette came into the office. i was supposed to write a review then. but i only listened to it once and didn't really pay attention... it was death-metal (read: UGH!!).
Anyway, about a year later i was going thru some forgotten music. Stillborn... Malevolent Creation... hmmm. Well, just think about hearing Dominated Resurgency for the very first time. before you've really listened to it? I was big into nyhc in the mid-late 80s, so i'm no stranger to hard-as-nails combat (btw: if you like this album then check out Rest In Pieces - My Rage). all in 1 night's time.
For me, the highlights are DR, Stillborn, Ethnic Cleansing and D o Aborrance. They happen to be the BEST MC songs i've heard to date. I've recently dld'ed 10C and Rtrbtion. I also have Best of and Warkult. Best of really doesn't count, though.
These 4 songs have riffage, groove, changes, synchopation (thanks in large part to Hoffman's lyrical timing).
I think this album is also very well produced, unlike most other people here.
I am not a fan of death-metal as a whole. and there are other types of "metal" that i think are shamefully, pathetically idiotic. I don't know what the heck Everytime I Die is, but i wish they and every last one of those types of sing-songey/screech-fest bands would die. and what the eff is Korn/limpbizkit/i-don't-know-wtf-else. Them and that Phoney, eye-contact/makeup-wearing, poodle-walker of a marilynn-manson.
I mean, wtf? In Flames? Nobody cares anymore. nobody tries. there is no revlolution. we have all been "televized". even the rebelion is wearing clothes from the same chain store, in a suburban mall subdivision. there's the new rebelion age.
I think this album is worth the price just for these songs. and if the others happen to grow on you, then that's good too.

5 out of 5 stars Great Death Metal!!! .......2006-03-17

This is another great release from Malevolent Creation. Before you complain about the sound quality of the album, you have to take into consideration that in the early 90's recording equipment wasn't as advanced as today. The cd has a mono effect to it which works great with death metal. Plus Malevolent Creation probably wanted the cd to sound the way it does. Either way this is a kick ass cd from Malevolent Creation. If you like death metal and are a fan of Malevolent Creation this is a must have cd. Being that this cd is out of print, and hard to find it makes it more a cd to have in your collection.

3 out of 5 stars Damn what happened?.......2005-03-03

The Ten Commandments is like by far the best of all their albums. Then Retribution came along and it wasn't as furious and fast as the Ten Commandments, but still good.

...and now Stillborn. First thing i noticed is the production, it's slower, and.....GODDAMN Hoffman, what happened? vocals are by far unbearable and too mediocre and....dead i say, just dead.

i would rather prefer this album over the fine art of murder, envemoned, the will to kill, and warkult, because those albums suck.

and yes these guys went through some hard times during the release of this album, so i don't blame them

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2006-08-15

First off, I like Malevolent Creation. Envenomed was very good. But to be honest, there's no post-Hoffman material worth listening to. Yeah, there's an image of a tank on the cover and it's heavy and br00tal and anyone who doesn't like it is a mallgoth poser [or whatever], but this album is simply boring. Kyle Symons proves to be one of death metal's most uncharismatic vocalists album after album, and more importantly, the band's sense of creativity and life has seemingly departed. It's easy to string together some chugging palm-muted guitar licks and call yourself death metal, but if those riffs can't serve a higher artistic purpose, it's a lost cause. I gave this album multiple chances, and whenever I hear it, I just hear one-dimensional, generic death metal. Even the awesome Dave Culross couldn't save this one.

4 out of 5 stars An enjoyable album.......2006-06-27

Reviewers have complained about the production of the CD, but I really dont have a problem with it. If you ever liked Malevolent Creation, you will probably like this CD. Their ability to write memorable songs clearly is what puts this band over the top compared to a band like Disgorge or Deeds of Flesh. Not to knock those two bands, but a song like Section 8 or Shock and Awe easily sticks in your mind more than any song by Deeds or Disgorge.

    Recommended !

    4 out of 5 stars A different-sounding Malevolent Creation.......2006-06-01

Warkult is actually Malevolent Creation's most accessible album. However, that is not saying much because not many Death Metal bands have the idea to make their albums accessible. Exceptions to this are Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus, who are the most accessible Death Metal bands (somewhat for Dying Fetus, though).

The music is a little different this time around. Kyle Symons, the HatePlow vocalist who provided vocals for The Will To Kill and a couple of songs in Envenomed, assumes the role as lead singer. Performance-wise, he's actually the worst of the 3 vocalists in Malevolent Creation. His growls are so generic albeit decipherable that he can't even come second to Jason Blachowicz in vocal duties and both definitely can't hold a torch for Brett Hoffmann, who is easily the best vocalist of this band.

The sound production of this album is quite unbalanced. The guitars are too loud and the bass is nearly inaudible. The drums are okay sounding. I can now hear the frequency of solos in this album, a work rarely done in their past albums since The Ten Commandments and Retribution. However, only 5-7 songs have solos. The best song in this album is Tyrannic Oppression. I admit that Symons' performance is above average in that song. Warkult also features a cover track of a highly obscure Thrash/Death Metal band from Australia called Hobbs' Angel of Death. The cover song is quite well done for a Death Metal band.

After hearing all the songs in this album, this isn't considered one of the best that Malevolent Creation has to offer. But they are still an impressive Death Metal band even though they are quite underrated. Recently, I have heard that they are making a new album called Doomsday X and they have brought back the original vocalist Brett Hoffmann(!), Jon Rubin, and bassist/(at times) vocalist Jason Blachowicz while Dave Culross, Gordon Simms, Rob Barrett, and Kyle Symons left the band, leaving Phil Fasciana (who I believe to be the most impressive DM guitarist) to be the only consistent member of the band. This is good news, but without Dave Culross (who I believe to be the most talented drummer in Death Metal in terms of precision, originality, and speed), I don't know if there will be impressive drumming in their next album.

This is not a bad album per se but Malevolent Creation are capable of so much more. If you claim to like Malevolent Creation yet have a strong distaste for Brett Hoffmann's vocals and like either Kyle Symons' or Jason Blachowicz's vocals, you are not considered a true fan of Malevolent Creation (Deathz Head, you're one of them).

5 out of 5 stars they come with all cannons blazing!.......2006-01-14

Malevolent Creation never fails to release a good album. case in point: the "Warkult" album. they gone astray from the path they usually walk on, which is murder, to a new path: war. they managed to cover "Jack the Ripper" by an obscure Australian band, Hobbs Angel Of Death, which definitely made a nice touch on this cd. how ironic, they have a song called "Shock and Awe" which seems to be their program with every album. they don't exactly cause peoples' mouths to drop to the ground (that's Krisiun's job) but they still impress.

4 out of 5 stars Malevolent Floridians of Bad Production Quality.......2005-12-02

This album wasn't that appealing until I listened to it a few times, at which point it grew on me.

It's not as good as their previous album "The Will to Kill," but Warkult is still a worthy contender.

The biggest flaw with this CD is the sound production quality, which is noticeably murky. Not utterly terrible, but the guitars are muddy. This CD would probably get 5 stars if it weren't for this.

The only other main flaw with this album is that the drums are a bit lacking in variety at times than one may like. The blast beats mostly have the same "hit the bell of the ride cymbal for every three you hit on the outside of it" routine, but at least it is a testament to the drummer's skill.

The vocalist, Kyle Symons, also arguably doesn't sound quite as good as on the previous album, but this is being nit-picky and is possibly due to the production quality. It's still an adequate death metal grunt, possibly better than former vocalist Jason Blaschowitz's.

On the plus side, the guitars seem to have more variety than the previous album, as "The Will to Kill" noticeably used the same guitar chords applied to different notes (and somehow sounded varied enough not to be too repetitive.) This album shows a little bit of Malevolent Creation's melodic side too, as the song 'Section 8' throws in a slower, but catchy sounding riff that keeps these guys from being too bland.

If you can get past the imperfect production quality, then this album is more money than the twenty dollar bill you'll use to buy it (note that this cheesy analogy doesn't work with denominations other than twenties or with other means of payment.) A recommended pick for pissing off the rap-listening conformists of this sad age we live in.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best death metal albums ever........2006-11-25

I don't understand why this record fails to get the attention I think it deserves as one of the best death metal records ever. it seems alot of people like Brett Hoffmans vocals better but I think Jason blows him away. His vocals are unique and roaring. The music is blistering. The production is slightly raw but it it add alot to the brutality. It's a powerful recording, and I think it may be my favorite snare drum sound ever. I've been into death metal since 1993, and everything about this record to me is damn near perfect. Buy it!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Unstoppable Eternal Juggernaut .......2005-09-27

Malevolent Creation's fourth studio album, absolutely rocks. Insert any positive thing that can be said about a Death Metal album and you have it here. Shredding solos, dark lyrics and a good vocalist (though not as good as original vocalist Brett Hoffman) and pounding drums from Dave Culross can all be found on this album. After the departure of Brett Hoffman, bassist Jason Blachowitz took over the vocal duties while still playing the Bass marking the only time Malevolent Creation has been a foursome. Although his vocal range doesn't change too often, he does a good job and his growl is easily understandable in comparison to so many other Death Metal bands.

When this album was released, there was a lot of controversy over the song They Breed (which is the racism that the 3 star reviewer speaks of). Despite Jason yelling "You F***ing Ni**ers!" at the end of the song, They Breed is not a racist song. Read the lyrics and it can easily be taken out of context, but here's the real deal. The song is about Scum. The band is not filled with racists (it never was). There have been people with a variety of nationalities and religions in the band over its lifetime. In an interview (it's pretty easy to find it over the internet, Amazon won't let me post the address) the band has a lot of black friends whom they call each other ni**er all the time in a joking manner. Although it may have been best to keep it an inside joke, people decided to take it to the extreme and carve "DIE NAZI!" on the side of their CD Warehouse. Interesting fact though, if you look up the word ni**er in a dictionary, it never says "a black person". Too many people freaked out over this song, which is a shame because it has ended up as one of my favorites on the album.

Eventually however, it was this song and an incident in Germany that led to Jason's removal from the group. After 2 more albums(including Joe Black), He decided to wear a KKK shirt at a concert and this combined with the knowledge of the song They Breed, the crowd booed the stage, merchandise was destroyed, etc. It didn't lead to a riot but it wasn't the friendliest environment (even for a Death Metal concert). As the band retreated to their tour bus, Jason began laughing sending guitarist Phil Fasciana into a rage, leading into a fist fight. Jason left and they haven't seen each other since. (Once again you can find it in that interview I spoke of) This departure allowed Brett Hoffman to return to Malevolent Creation for two more albums before his final departure.

So to clear anything up, the band isn't racist; they are one of my favorite Death Metal bands and never get enough credit for their work. They are extremely talented, there is no filler on Eternal and there is never a moment where I become bored. If you buy Eternal (or any Malevolent Creation album) you will not be disappointed, hoped this helped.

The artwork shown here is a shade of green, mine is a shade of brown, so there may be more than one album cover for Eternal.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome death metal.......2004-12-21

I bought this album because it was cheap. I wasn't expecting anything too amazing, but when i started listening to it i got hooked. I don't know much about this band, and this is the only album i have by them, but it is great death metal to listen to. I would say fans of Morbid Angel (me) would enjoy this ablum (i do).

    3 out of 5 stars eternal.......2003-10-27

ok, i had a more positive review before this one, but after giving it a true listening, its not the best, or even better than STILLBORN, as i said earlier. the vocalist doesnt ever change tone, at all, and only half the album is catchy. the vocalist is not even at all close to hoffman, but the lyrics are quite good, but once again, not as good as hoffmans. now, the guitair work is quite splendid, and the drumming is excellent, but doesnt change up too much, which can get boring. if you are new to malevolent creation, dont make this your first, and if this is your first, and u dont like it, please keep faith, when they come back with hoffman on "the fine art of murder" they come back to their roots, and dominate with true malevolence. peace out..by the way...for the song THEY BREED i take off 2 stars. there is absolutely no need for rascist remarks in heavy metal music. other than that this is a good cd.

5 out of 5 stars Hideous Death Metal Reprisal.......2003-08-20

This is one of my favorite Malevolent Creation albums in my collection. I brought it sometime in late 1995. Years before this, the band was on hiatus. They were going through a lot of problems. Some of the problem were a bad record deal with Roadrunner, internal problems and the bad release of Stillborn which was considered a disaster by some fans as well as the band members themselves. The band also lost lead guitarist Rob Barrett and long-time vocals Brett Hoffman. By the way, the both of them will eventially rejoin the band for The Fine Art Of Murder later on. Anyway, the band was on hiatus and all of this was from 1993 until 1995. They did actually appear on 2 compliation albums called Live Death which was released in 1994 and The South Florida Slammie Awards CD which was realsed in 1995. That was pretty much the only time that the band showed their faces but between Stillborn and this album, they didn't put out a record. The first time I heard about the band releasing this album was when I stumbled across a review for it in a free magazine here in Florida called JAM Magazine. This was the same magazine that gave Deicide's Once Upon The Cross a bad review. Anyway, this album also got a bad review. After that, I should have looked for album and gotten it but I ignored it. Bad mistake. Than, I went on a couple of months without ever thinking about it but when it finally came to my attention, I went to the Camelot Music store at the mall near where I lived and ordered a copy. Than, I got it in a week. When I got it, I took it home and listend to it and it delivered.

Now for my review. I have been a fan of Malevolent Creation for a long and this album is one of the best by the band next to Retribution and In Cold Blood. It's also a new direction for the band. They are on a new labal called Pavement Music (now Crash Music) and Jason Bachowicz (now in Divine Empire) has taken up the vocal duties yet, still maintaining his spot as bassist for the band. Despite the new chances, the band still gives it 110% like always and this album is another example of the band as a musical weapon of mass destruction. It's got everything you would expect from a band like Malevolent and that is awesome, intense, all-out, in-your-face, butt-kicking, heavy, nasty, brutal, apocalyptic, annihilating, devestating, malevolent death metal at its ultimate best. Fans of Divine Empire, Hate Plow, Demented Ted, Deathchains, Nile, Oppressor, Monstrosity, Brutality, Sinister and an old Christain death metal band called Obliteration (who are now Death List) and also unknown Florida death metal bands like Demonomacy, Raped Ape (also Paingod), Amboog-A-Lard, Incessent Torment and Brutal Mastication will love this album. Some of my favorite songs here are Blood Brothers, Infernal Desire, Enslaved, To Kill, Eternal and Tasteful Agony. Buy this, take a listen, brace yourself and prepare yourself because all hell is going to break loose. You've been warned.

5 out of 5 stars "Reginaldi" does not have this title in stock...........2007-02-07

This is a great CD from these death metal kings. To all people who are looking to purchase this CD, I must tell you that Reginaldi does not have this in stock. I ordered it from them one month ago and still haven't received it. When I contacted them, they said it was on backorder and then the very next day, they relisted it. So, if you really want this CD, I wouldn't order it from them because you will never get it. Just a warning so as not to waste your time...

5 out of 5 stars In Cold Awesomeness.......2006-01-20

This is definitely one of Malevolent Creation's best studio albums they've ever made ("The Will to Kill" might be better.)

The drums are excellent. Though not the most technical, the fast blast beats make up for this, as I can only name a few others who can play faster.

The guitars also remain interesting throughout. The fast strumming usually is good enough to please.

The vocals are awesome as well. In fact, Jay Blachowicz's vocals are some of the best death metal vocals I've heard. They're low enough to sound bad ass, yet intelligible enough so that one can sing along if one so desires (something that, unfortunately, can't be said of a lot of other death metal vocalists.)

Things I'd say against this album are that A) it might be a little lacking in variety for some (never really a strong point for Malevolent Creation), but it was enough variety for me at least B) The self-title song isn't that great, and C) Most of the songs are fairly short (between 2 and 3 minutes.) It does have some longer ones though, and that there are 13 songs overall makes up for this.

So in conclusion, this album is so awesome, it's worth more than your life. Get used to it.

4 out of 5 stars Best of the Blachowicz Era.......2003-04-01

    (4.5 Stars if possible)

This is definitely my favorite Malevolent Creation album featuring bassist Jason Blachowicz on vocal duties. Most people I know who listen to MC prefer the album "Eternal" to this release, but I find "In Cold Blood" to be the superior release simply because it is a more frenetic, in-your-face type of album. The songs on this album are, overall, much shorter and much faster than those on "Eternal" and lack some of the technicality. However, what this album lacks in song length or technicality it more than makes up in brutality. All the songs on this album are played at break-neck speeds and are very entertaining to listen to. There are also more songs presented here, and this disc is still more than satisfying to throw in and listen to only a couple quick songs if you so desire or don't have time to listen to lengthier releases. The blasts on this album are great, but the drumming isn't varied quite as much as on "Eternal". However, despite the shortfalls just mentioned, "In Cold Blood" is my top pick of the albums featuring Blachowicz on vocals.

When comparing this to the rest of Malevolent Creation's catalogue, "In Cold Blood" is right up near the top on my list, only clearly surpassed by "Envenomed". If you like this album a lot, I VERY HIGHLY recommend that you check out their newest release "Will To Kill". The new vocalist (Kyle Symons from Hate Plow) sounds pretty similar to Blachowicz and the drum production is some of the best I've ever heard for a death metal band.

Overall, this is a fantastic release and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the genre, whether you're just getting into death metal or want to see what some of MC's material sounded like without Brett Hoffman. "In Cold Blood" is definitely worth your time and your cash.

    Fave tracks:
"Nocturnal Overload", "Prophecy", "Compulsive", "Narcotic Genocide" & "Comdemned"

    5 out of 5 stars Cold-Blooded Death Metal .......2002-02-16

This is one of my favorite Malevolent Creation albums in my collection. I bought it sometime in the fall of 1997 along with a used CD copy of WWF Wrestlemania: The Album. Like with most Malevolent Creations albums, it has always been a pain in the behind trying to get a copy at least within a couple of small amounts of time after an album comes out. If the band ever sets up a lifetime album subscription club, I'll definitely be one of the first to join. With this album, it was tough trying to get a copy but I didn't give up. When I finally found it, I brought along with the used CD's that I mentioned and I took them home. When I got around to listen to this CD, it delivered because like every other Malevolent album, all hell broke loose.

Now for my review. I've been a fan of Malevolent Creation since the days of Retribution and everything they've put out has been nothing more than one devestating album after another. This one is no exception. The best way to discribe it is like a disaster that come as a result of an overdose of endless truck loads of Stone Cold Steve Austin cans of whoop-a--. I mean have nothing in your house except a costum-made body suite on and a sterio with this album in it and brace yourself because all hell is going to break loose. Trust me, this stuff is dangerous to the core. The bass sounds very intense, the guitars are tuned to pure evil and they shred, the vocals are angry and insane and the drumming itself slices and dices like a shredding machine possessed by Satan himself. I mean Derik Roddy sounds like Satan on drums in a very irritated mood. The music itself is aggressive, hostile, skillfully well done, very brutal, very heavy and very amazing. Some of the best songs here are Nocturnal Overlord, Compulsive, Vision Of Malice, Leech, Preyed Upon, Violated and Prophecy. If you like bands like Monstrosity, Brutality, Sinister, Demented Ted, Hate Plow, Divine Empire, Oppressor, Sinister, Deathchains, Gorguts (first 2 albums) and Obliteration (the defunct Christain death metal band who are now Death List) as well as South Florida underground bands like Demonomacy, Raped Ape (also Paingod), Amboog-A-Lard, Incessent Tortment and Brutal Mastication. Get it and prepares yourself for some cold-blooded death metal. Let the slashing begin and the blood spill.

3 out of 5 stars in cold blood.......2000-11-05

MALEVOLENT CREATION's 1997 release "in cold blood" doesnt quite match up to the punch of their previous releases and here's why: for one thing, scott burn's hot-levelled mix is so distorted that a lot of times it's hard to make out the riffs. the bass drums are so thin and lifeless, that its hard to tell them apart from the snare drum. as a fan, i was a bit uneasy about the lack of original members and for a little while it seemed that at this time MC wasnt really a band anymore. this album also showcased bassist jason blachowicz fulfilling vocal duties for the second time, which comes off as very generic both vocally and lyrically. in fact, even musically it seemed that blachowicz was incapable of submitting any quality material riff-wise for this record. this is also evident on the very forgettable DIVINE EMPIRE release, "redemption" which features "in cold blood"'s whole line-up minus phil fasciana. there are some great moments on this CD. phil's material and guitar work are exactly what you would expect from a quality MALEVOLENT CREATION release...the problem is that the mix and lyrical subject matter just don't do it justice. dont make "in cold blood" your first MALEVOLENT CREATION experience...but definitely get it to complete your collection.

5 out of 5 stars The second masterpiece in a row!.......2006-10-09

If you read my review on Malevolent's previous album 'Envenomed,' then you obviously know how I feel about this one. There's no doubt that this is one of the band's best, and like 'Envenomed,' everything is perfect on this CD for an extreme metal album! The one thing that I like most though is the drum work, it's absolutely INCREDIBLE!! The drumming is like a jack hammer going rampant in your head & it's just so clear & precise like all metal albums should have the drums recorded, but not always are. Oh, and as for the "Brett Hoffman's not in the band so I don't like it" people, get a life! You don't know what you are missing!

5 out of 5 stars You Need 7 Copies of This. Now........2006-01-20

I'd argue this CD is possibly Malevolent Creation's best studio album to date.

For one, the vocals don't suck like Brett Hoffman's did (why anyone liked him, I cannot understand for the death of me.) They're not as low as former vocalist Jay Blachowicz's, but they're as good regardless (though certainly different.)

The guitars are the same as they've always been: full of fast strumming and interesting riffs.

The drums are also similar to what Malevolent Creation is known for: blast beats and thrash rolled into an effective combination.

The best songs (to purposely impose my opinions on you) are 'Lifeblood,' 'Divide and Conquer,' 'All that Remains,' and 'Lifeblood' (since its so awesome, it deserves mention twice.) Oh, and I forgot about 'Lifeblood.' Man, who am I kidding? They all rule. Stop reading this and get this CD.

    5 out of 5 stars I can't believe they're STILL getting better!.......2004-03-13

I was kind of bummed out when Malevolent Creation booted Brett Hoffman again, but realistically, you can't have someone around with those problems. I won't state them here, research them if you really want to know.
Kyle definately has a different vocal flavor, but it fits in perfectly with this album. The writing style has gotten more technical and I believe this was the next logical step for MC. Envenomed was my favorite release until this one came out. Right from the beginning you have a break neck pace that stays consistent throughout the album. I can't believe MC is still improving after all this time, but I couldn't be happier.
I saw them live and they are still putting on killer shows! The best death metal performance I've seen yet was weilded by these masters and I know they won't let up soon. Even the loss of Dave Culross couldn't slow them down. And if that doesn't, I don't know what will.
This album is just brutal from start to finish and every song on it is tighter than the last.
Any death metal fan should have this thing. Any other metal fan can learn a lot from this album. And I don't give a sh** about any other type of music fan. They probably couldn't comprehend the raw power behind this.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD (not their best) but still great!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-12-17

Like some of the other reviews before me I didn't think I would like Kyle Symons on vocals (new singer) But he does work with this band.......he's no Bret Hoffman..........but he is good. Rob and Phil sound devistating.....their riffs are so d*mn tight. And the new drummer is very good to. They have suffered from the loss of Dave (the man) Culros......but who wouldn't suffer from the loss of such genius. This album grew on me with time. If your looking for a first or second MC album then get Envenomed.(one of my all time favs) In closing, I believe you should give a new line-up at least a second album chance to get comfortable with the other guys. Just know that phil would not have chose these guys unless they were top notch.

    5 out of 5 stars Crushing!!.......2003-01-19

I used to listen to Malevolent Creation when I was in high school, and thought they were really good. Intro to 2002, where after 2 years in Florida I become acquainted with Rob from Malevolent through my guitar player Jeff, and Rob lets me listen to "The Will to Kill" before it came out. I thought it was good then and now that I have a pressed copy it sounds even better. If you have the chance to see Malevolent, you will be impressed, I assure you. I just saw them in Orlando with Cannibal Corpse and you wouldn't believe how many people were there, heavy music is making a comeback for sure in the States. The new vocalist has a different style and register than Brett so it may take some getting used to for some people. For me, he fits right in there, and I honestly think his voice is stronger anyway. Their new drummer is also solid. To give credit where it's due of course you have to say that Cullross is impossibly good, but it is so hard to find people who can play this stuff, and DiPinto is there. You also cannot overlook living legend James Murphy's contribution in "Assassin Squad", two of the best solos I've ever heard, period. Let's all hope he gets well. Go out and buy this album, and go see Malevolent Creation, support one of the bands who are still true to the ultimate brutality of the heavy music underground. Thats it.

    5 out of 5 stars GREAT CD.......2006-05-15

This is a great cd of all of Malevolent Creation's best songs I think that "stillborn" should be on this cd but it's still a great cd.MC is one of my all-time favorite death metal bands along with Obituary. If you are new to MC buy this cd it's great.

4 out of 5 stars A reminder of when Roadrunner was good and why they suck now.......2005-01-08

Great stuff but they could have fit a few more gems on this disc ("Disciple Of Abhorrence", "Stillborn", "Dominion Of Terror").The music rules but it seems as if Roadrunner is trying to cash in on all the bands they should have, and could have supported more.I guess generic Ihatemumanddad rock makes them more money.

5 out of 5 stars It doesn't get any better than this........2004-03-13

I have been trying to find MCs old stuff for some time now, but Roadrunner has not been too forthcoming with those albums until recently. Regardless, this album was a must have for me trying to familiarize myself with the roots of my favorite Death Metal band. Monster is still my favorite, but every song on this CD is as bone crushing as it gets. These guys are the fastest in metal and this only reinforces that. The song selection was top notch and there's even another Slayer cover at the end! It doesn't get any sweeter than this.

5 out of 5 stars Deron has created another masterpiece........2003-10-28

As you may or may not know, Deron Miller of CKY (my favorite band) made this excellent compilation of Malevolent Creations best music. And this is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Move over Slayer. Malevolent Creation is the best metal band out there. And it's all thanks to Deron. Great album. If you like REAL heavy metal, then buy this amazing compilation of songs from Malevolent Creation. And also check out CKY. Thank you Deron!

5 out of 5 stars Best of Malevolent.......2003-10-07

A classic in my book. Thank you Deron for compiling a sweet all-Brett Hoffman Malevolent album. Also, nice work in the cd booklet, I really enjoyed reading about Malevolent's early career. If you're just getting into Malevolent, or you already know that they are the best of the best, get this album for non-stop insanity.
