Baby Monkey - User Experience Self-log:.......2004-10-21
0:06 into Track #1... Am I loosing my mind, or is this a moby styled loop?
2:15 into Track #1... At this point this point I think we all know its Moby for sure.
Track #4... Ok Im ready to start Dancing now.... Energy building, and... 3:25, nice break... very nice! [in case the person reading this is Moby] ;) YES!!! Starts up again!... 6:43
Track #5 Definitely different... I think I hear some old skool Moby here
Track #7... At first this sounds a bit Icey-ish but more trancy. A fresh sound from Moby.
Track #8 1:58... Ok where is my copy of Early Underground?
"Its Party Time!..."
Like the man said- it's just good, straightforward dance.......2004-09-27
Okay, i like experimental stuff, creativity keeps electronica as a whole alive. But now and again, it's nice to have a good artist who simply comes down to earth and gives us some good music. This is GOOD DANCE. (Except the last track, which is good except it NEVER ENDS...). As such, this is a good, all-around CD for whenever. It's not mood specific, triumphant, melancholy, whatever- it just is. Moby has tremendous capacity for experimentation, but when you get off the hinterlands and come back to the main area- you see that the experimentation is based on, well, good, straightforward music.
A gem .......2004-08-08
Since Moby's carreer began, his musical style has matured and evolved. Especially with the releases of Play and 18. His music has evolved into almost poppish electronica. As Voodoo Child, he gets back to his original roots from the early 90's. This album sounds a lot like "MOBY: RARE B-SIDES" the superb 2-disc set released by Moby a few years ago. The music in this album is earlier Moby mixed with newer Moby. You can tell it's the "newer" Moby 'cause of the drumwork. Every musician has a favorite chord and style of music they like to use in their own productions. Moby is no different. Since the release of Play, I have noticed simularities in all the tracks he's done since then. That's not a bad thing. It's not repetive. And it takes true skill for that. Most artists sound the same each and every track. I do the same. I'm a electronica musician. And you can tell it's me every track because I usually use the same softwares and stuff for my drums and synths. And I have a set chord reference for most of my tracks. It's my brain at work.(...)
So is this a good album? Yes. It's one of the finest. And I hope Moby releases more albums under the name Voodoo Child.

good stuff but nothing extraordinary (except tracks 4 and 12) if i should try to express what i'm expecting from real dance music i would put down only one group which stands for the best dance maker. in my opinion, guys from "chemical brothers" with their skils really got it (nothing new, of course). and the difference between moby and ChB??? how simple, if you take the ChB's best dance song of all times - for me : "sunshine underground" (Surrender) - from the beginning to the end you can hear the developement, which i would compare to the developement in the built-up of drama works - thesis, synthesis...climax, apocalypse. This is what makes me feel the excitement, the tension which is constantly run up until to the climax of the song...and that's what the majority (moby inclusive) of so called dance-songs lacks. i'm sorry Moby, as you said you did only "simple, straightforward dance music".
Smart and Sexy.......2004-02-17
This is great, classic-sounding electronic music. I don't know much about Moby, but I can tell you that this album is intelligent, funky, and it pulls off being ethereal without even remotely resembling trance.
Moby throws together some House and Techno (but not only that), all overlaid by that beautiful electronic keyboard- very 80's, but I mean that in a good way. My favorite tracks so far are 3, 4, and 5... very hot! Some tracks are more techy than sexy, but nonetheless... this would be lethal on the dance floor. I will dance much to this CD. Yes.

A decent, and temporary, change of direction for Bulletboys.......2005-08-25
This album was the fourth studio release by the Bulletboys and came a couple years after they lost their major label contract with Warner Brothers Records. Fan reviews have been mixed on this release, but 'Acid Monkey' is a very loose and relaxed release by the band. Be forewarned, there is nothing here that will remind long-time fans of the three previous albums by Bulletboys (or either of the ones that followed this). However, the change of direction was probably necessary to prevent all their creativity from drying up.
The fact of the matter is, at the time, the Bulletboys were relegated to an indie label in the middle of the grunge era. Only two out of the four original members were left (lead singer Marq Torien and bassist Lonnie Vencent) and morale was probably a little low. For these reasons, this is probably the best album that the group could have made in 1995, given the circumstances. The original guitarist, Mick Sweda, and the original drummer, Jimmy D'Anda, are not present here. The replacements are unknown, but competent, musicians who turn in capable performances. Ted Templeman, who produced the first three Bulletboys records, is not behind the controls on 'Acid Monkey' but the slight dropoff in production quality does not ruin the whole listening experience.
Bulletboys show off their range by experimenting with a few different styles on this album, mostly mid-90's alternative music. 'Acid Monkey' is not any heavier, or lighter, than the other Bulletboys albums, it is just different. "Weazal" is a punk track which opens the album at breakneck speed with a ton of attitude. "Surf Dog" is done in a surf-punk style and doesn't quite measure up to the opener, but the snotty vocals are a highlight. "Diss" is a downtuned 90's rocker, with shrill vocals from Marq Torien. A couple of the guitar riffs sound ever so slightly like Stone Cold Steve Austin's wrestling theme, before he was using it. The soft acoustic number, "Thorn", obviously borrows from Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots.
"Alien" is as good as anything else on here and certainly wasn't ever going to be a radio single. This ambitious track features heavy bass lines from Lonnie Vencent and Marq Torien sounds like he has lost his mind the further the song goes. "Toy" sounds like a song that was geared for a radio single and thus, it is the most accessible piece of music here for mass consumption.
"Terror Ride" is my personal favorite, featuring the strongest verse and chorus, overall. Marq's vocals are most passionate on "Terror Ride", even if some words are hard to decipher. "A.P." is actually Don McLean's "American Pie." Purists won't be pleased to hear that some verses and a whole chorus is missing, the track is much shorter than the original. However, it is as good of a cover of "American Pie" as you will ever hear. It sounds very much like the Bulletboys just walked into the studio, hit record and started playing an impromptu, acoustic jam. Listen to the tasteful drum sound, which starts up partway through the song. The Bulletboys did a number of cover songs in their career (including three of their biggest singles) and more often than not, they were done well. That was the case this time with "American Pie." Before you know it, the album is over.
'Acid Monkey' was issued on Swordholio/Perris Records in 1995 and quickly went out of print, though negotiations are in progress to reissue it. The album gets a high score for doing something a little bit different and actually possessing fewer filler songs than some other releases by the Bulletboys. There are members of the Bulletboys fanbase who may want to listen to this before picking it up, because of the drastically different musical direction. However, regardless of what you think of the songs, the group shows plenty of signs of life throughout this collection of songs. Unlike other 1980's rock acts who tried a more contemporary sound in the mid/late 90's (Babylon AD, Dokken, LA Guns, etc.), the Bulletboys actually brought a pretty good collection of material to the table for 'Acid Monkey.' The songwriting was fairly strong, throughout. Marq and Lonnie knew there was nothing to lose and this wasn't going to get radio play, anyway. As a result, some of the most interesting work from the Bulletboys catalog was produced on 'Acid Monkey.' This is an album worth searching for but until it is reissued, the price may be a little steep. By the time the Bulletboys headed back into the studio to do a follow-up in 2000, the original lineup was back and the sound explored on this album was totally scrapped. Too bad.
Nice Price.......2005-06-22
Don't buy the copy that someone is selling for almost $80. They are reissuing this cd and you will be able to get it for under $10 soon.
