Perhaps his most celebratory recording, Out of Silence is Yanni's second release and is well-stocked with some of his most uplifting works: the sparkling "Sand Dance," for instance, and the cinematic, chest-swelling "After the Sunrise." Two of the most riveting selections found on Live at the Acropolis had their origin here: "Standing in Motion" and "Within Attraction." While a selection such as "Point of Origin" might bring Tangerine Dream to mind, this release is probably the most John Tesh-like of any of Yanni's recordings, and that's intended as a compliment. (Tesh, in fact, once performed in Yanni's backup band.) The closing track, the pulsing "Paths of Water," is outstanding. --Terry Wood
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-01-27
One of my all-time favorite works of music. This album started my love of electronic music as a teenager, and I later became a pro musician as a result. Still a strong influence.
Musical Genius.......2005-10-06
On long road trips to visit my grandmother, I remember my parents insisting on playing our casette tape version over and over -- often times at the requests of my brother's and I.
We all grew up on it and literally played that tape to death.
Needless to say, I now own my own CD version of this fabulous music and enjoy listening to its soothing melodies.
Yanni truly is a modern day musical genius in his ability to create music that has a way of taking you to lands of wonder.
Although all of Yanni's albums are equally intriguing and miraculous, I find myself drawn to this one more, probably because so many memories are attached to it.
I strongly urge anyone searching for a new and enjoyable artist/album to give this one a try.
Another collection-item for Baywatch-fans !.......2004-08-12
Also for Baywatch-fans this CD from YANNI is
a worth recommendation to their collection.
The CD contains two beautifull full instrumental
titles (Point of Origen, After the Sunrise)
that were used for the Baywatch-episode:
The Chamber (1991).
If you are interested in songs that featured
on Baywatch, you can buy here on Amazon.com the Book: "Baywatch - Rescued from Prime Time".
This book contains all credits from songs/artists
(like YANNI), that you can buy here on Amazon.com.
Get up and Go Music.......2003-02-13
This is what music should be. This is my favorite Yanni album. I have gotten more people introduced to Yanni with this album. The tracks are Yanni and Charlie {the drummer} at their best. I liked this album so much, I named one of my Arabian horses after track five....Within Attraction. It is get up and go music like no other. The album is higher than 5 stars but since thats as high as the rating goes......well you know. This album makes Yanni in concert also. When I saw him in concert {in the front row} he played 7 of the 10 songs on this album and the crowd loved it. I cannot single out one song over another, but to just say this, you will want to know where the repeat button is on your CD player. Enjoy!!
Out of Silence.......2002-07-24
Over the past few years of my life one cassette tape that has truly enspired me has been Yanni-Out of Silence.
It is most undoubtedly one of Yanni's greatest yet and I have had to replace my old cassette tape with a CD...it's that good!
It is a great buy and worth every penny.

Album Description
Silence is the fourth studio album of the band A.C.T., whom consists of five eager and ambitious young musicians from Sweden. With their 1999 debut album, Today's Report, A.C.T. have won the hearts of rock fans the world over. Their fresh and energy-laden mixture of melodic prog, rock and pop comes across entirely convincing and recently won them an opening slot with the legendary Saga on their recent European tour. Silence contains over 60 minutes of pure listening pleasure and is packaged with a multimedia section that offers a live clip serving as witness to their spectacular live performance.
Customer Reviews:
Solid mix of prog and pop.......2007-03-30
Silence marks the debut of Sweden's A.C.T. on Inside Out, and expands on their classic pop-driven prog heard on their previous efforts Today's Report and the more intriguing Last Epic. The album consists of two parts -- the first ten songs being the independent pieces, marked by the Saga-like vocal harmonies of "Puppeteers" and "This Wonderful World", the latter decorated with a sweet classical arrangement in its ending. The fervent bass opening of "Out of Ideas" suggests the band are going to launch into a rocking song, but it quickly takes on a symphonic vibe, with lush keyboards, a gentle string attachment, and a neat guitar solo behind Ola Andersson's Jon Anderson-styled vocal delivery. The album does offer a heavier approach with the arrival of the anthemic main riff of "Hope", a song that is right up there with the material Asia offered in the early 90's. Touches of Supertramp, ELO, and Queen come in and out of the songs in the blink of an eye, but what they keep intact throughout is the use of gripping vocal harmonies, supported by symphonic and vintage keys, and melodic guitar effects.
As is the case with previous A.C.T. records, the second half of the album is dedicated to a lengthy piece, simply titled Consequences. This epic-scale composition contains three independent stories: the heavy, more intricate opening of "Silent Screams", complete with wide-open strings, ties in with the delicate acoustic intro of "Introduction" -- according to a recent interview of the band, this is sort of like the storytelling of a Quentin Tarantino piece. "Joanna", one of the high points of the CD, is drenched in a tense synth patch, as a driving bass line carries it into a more rocking domain. The interlocking guitar theme sounds quite interesting and does a nice job depicting the tragic story of a young lady who gets killed in a car accident after having a fight with her boyfriend. The repeated piano melody during the slowed-down section is really beautiful and I love how it transforms back into the mammoth arrangement it is as they weave heavy bass and guitar rhythms into the mix. Also, the vocal melody of "A Father's Love" is truly moving. The third and last mini-concept of the album starts with "The Diary, examining the confusion of a lost little girl who is mentally deranged. The state of her mind is excellently captured with hook-strong vocals harmonies that alternate between innocent whispers to psychotic bursts of drama, with the addition of a wide range of sounds. Perhaps the most Asia-meets-Saga type of composition, it also boasts nice instrumental interplay between bass, guitar, and keys respectively.
The production was done by Andromeda keyboardist Martin Hedin and is to be praised for its use of space and transparancy. A.C.T. have delivered a fine record, but something inside me says, their best is yet to come.
Falls Just Short Of Their High Standards.......2007-01-14
It was three years between albums, but at long last the 4th A.C.T album, "Silence" has been released. The Japanese release was on June 21st of 2006, and the rest of the world had to wait until October. This particular item is the Enhanced CD which includes the bonus video of A.C.T performing "Mr. Landlord" in concert. With three strong CDs already to their credit, this fourth release is hoped to propel the group onto the international stage.
This CD returns to the format of their first two CDs where they have a number of individual tracks, followed by a longer work made up from shorter pieces or movements. There are 10 individual pieces, including some very solid tracks such as the opener "Truth Is Pain", "This Wonderful World", "No Longer Touching Ground", and "The Voice Within". The longer piece is called "Consequences" and is made up of 9 tricks, including several strong pieces such as "Joanna", A Father's Love, "Memory To Fight", and "A Wound That Won't Heal". Overall, in many ways this is the most accessible album that A.C.T has done, but it also falls a little bit short of the previous three.
The band A.C.T includes members Jerry Sahlin (synthesizers, lead and backing vocals, vocoder and deck of cards), Ola Andersson (electric and acoustic guitars, lead and backing vocals), Peter Asp (bass guitar, synth bass and bass pedals), Herman Saming (lead and backing vocals), and Tomas Lejon (drums and percussion). On this album they have as guest musicians "The Acting Orchestra" which includes Tomas Ebrelius (violin 1), Hanna Hajslund Hansen (violin 2), Catharina Holm (viola), and John Löfgren (cello). In addition, Kenny Sahlin provides additional lead vocals on "Puppeteers" and Martin Hedin is the angry customer on "Call in Dead".
I have listened to this album repeatedly since purchasing it, and as with their previous works it does get better each time, but it does lack the great tracks which the prior CDs had. So, while this CD will probably earn the group a larger audience, the long-time fans are probably going to prefer their earlier releases. I would put this album at around 3 and ½ stars, but as Amazon doesn't allow that I have to round down to 3.
Super Cool Album!!!.......2006-11-12
This is an incredible album to listen to. Unlike its predecessor, Silence is soft, soothing, catchy, melodic and most importantly SUPER COOL! I found ACT just a few years back when Last Epic was released that was just an eye opener for me as ACT is band of multi musical genre blending progressive elements with aor melodic rock. At times it was heavy and technical but on the other hand it was also, soft, soothing to the ears and playful indeed with reggae feel. It was just so cool to listen to them. Now with Silence the album title matches with the overall feel of the album.. At first it was like oh my god this sounded like pop music but once it grows in you, you'll be singing all day long!! Still there are progrssive elements thrown into the mix but it is just on the softer side. If you just want to relax and enjoy something cool this is it!! Highly recommended! It never surprises me that it is the Sweds that did it again. Get it!
A.C.T.-Silence.......2006-10-18
Many secrets surround the Swedish quintet A.C.T, who are about to release their fourth studio album "Silence". What does the abbreviation A.C.T actually stand for? "We won't tell you", says Keyboardist and vocalist Jerry Sahlin, "it's up to the fans to guess". What about the album title "Silence"? "Well, it's good that this word has so many meanings..." Okay, let's move on from this. It's also a mystery as to why the band are still only considered a "hot tip", despite their extraordinary song material and strong tour supports for well-known acts such as Fish and Saga. With "Silence" however, their first release for InsideOut Music, this all looks set to change.
The band's music, which the protagonists themselves call "Melodic/Prog/Rock/Pomp/Pop", has become much more mature and concise with each album. The band's skills are not just limited to impressive solo spots but can be best appreciated in their ensemble playing. There are some stand out examples on the new album such as the guitar and keyboard interplay in the middle section of "Hope", or the bass and keyboards working together in "No Longer Touching Ground". The first half of the album is a collection of individual songs, while the other half tells the tragic story of Joanna, a young woman desperately wanting a child, who ends up experiencing a tragic turn of events. It is in this second half of "Silence" where the band really shines and captivates the listener with its finer tones and complex song structures. Each listen reveals something new in the music without ever taking the magic away from it. How the band achieves this will probably remain A.C.T's biggest mystery.
Full CD comes with bonus live footage of this exciting band.

Album Description
Silence Of Another Kind is the third album by Swedish band Paatos. The band around the charismatic singer Petronella Nettermalm describes their music as "melancholic post rock" with influences of Björk, Can, King Crimson and Portishead. The new release is somewhat heavier than the previous albums and will please fans of Opeth and The Gathering. Silence Of Another Kind is a cool mixture of outstanding melodies and vocals. The cover artwork was done by the famous artist Hans Arnold who worked with ABBA and Spiritual Beggars.
Customer Reviews:
A Great Addition to Their Discography.......2006-09-16
Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with Paatos' previous album, "Kallocain." It was just missing that certain something that lured me into this band that I found on "Timeloss," and sounded a little more commercialized and "poppy." "Timeloss" had that unique, magnetic, hauntingly beautiful, nostalgic feeling. "Nostalgic" is always a weird word to describe brand new music, but seriously, when I first heard "Téa," for instance, I was convinced it was recorded in the 1970's (Even though I was never alive in the 1970's... but that's beside the point).
Well somehow, they got that old sound right back on this album and have explored and expanded upon it better than I could have ever imagined. This album is so polished and crisp. There is a vast spectrum of emotions from very gloomy and eerie, to tranquil and keyboard-heavy, and to much more upbeat and joyful. It consists of many sweet guitar melodies, lots of keyboards, bass, cello, viola, violin, and a little saxophone. Not to mention Petronella Nettermalm's voice is astonishing and ultimately soothing, weather she is delivering more powerful style vocals or not. Also, many of the band members do backing vocals.
"Is That All?" is probably my favorite piece, beginning with the most heartfelt and serene guitar melody, introducing a heavier, distorted guitar chorus, and beautifully intertwining the two styles. As the song progresses, Petronella starts to cry "Is That All?" in the most emotively gorgeous melody, more and more powerful each time, as the music parallels her, getting louder and the drumming getting crazier towards the end.
"There Will be no Miracles" is a much more upbeat rock song. It's simple and catchy but it works well here, especially between songs with a drastically different feel.
Fans of White Willow, particularly their newer work, should adore this, as should fans of Landberk, King Crimson, Anekdoten, and Anglagard. Paatos is a young, ambitious young band with a lot to look forward to.

The beautifully captured reverberant sound of the acoustic space is matched by gorgeous choral balance, precise diction, and definitive interpretation. In spite of the contemporary style of the compositions - Rorem doesn't shy away from crunchy dissonances - this is a very enjoyable collection of Choral music with many beautfiul moments.

Album Description
Out of the Silence immediately seizes your attention with the haunting title song, then carries you through a series of introspective, soul searching ballads, love songs, and metaphysical explorations. This recording transcends style categories and age groups with a unique diversity in style, ranging from contemporary folk to light rock. The music is energetic, upbeat, playful and romantic. The inspiring lyrics offer Jamie Fota telling the truth of her experiences as a woman, in an endearingly direct style that touches the hearts of her listeners.
Customer Reviews:
Good album, it's unique.......2006-11-29
Hard to describe this album. My favorite is Let Her Power Through, which is a lovely song about a Pagan Rite. I also like Out Of The Silence. Another good one is Litany. This album should appeal to anyone who is a Pagan, a femminist, or a Lesbian.
Awful album.......2003-01-25
JUDY MENKE's cd is the worst lesbian creation ever.
The best CD you've never heard of!.......2000-04-25
I only know of Jamie Fota because she's a local musician here in Cincinnati. If you aren't from around here, you've probably never heard of her, but if you care about music that has something to say, are you missing something! It's hard to describe what style the album is in, because it's so original and the tracks are so different from each other. There are romantic love songs, but also songs about protecting the earth and about working for change; there are songs about spirituality, songs of empowerment. There's a wonderful song (From Within) about taking care of your inner child--I know it sounds sappy to describe this way, but the song is devastating and uplifting all at once, and far from sappy. The music will touch your heart and your soul and there's a go out and party song too!

Customer Reviews:
Highly enjoyable power rock.......2006-09-02
This album, first of Dare's, is an odd combination of metal and power rock with synths, and Dare paid for this by being mostly ignored. I only bought it as a bargain on the strength of the rather stylish cover!
To make matters worse, after this very good first album they tried to make a second "guitar hero" plain rock album (Blood from Stone) and lost all the unique features they offered. By their own admission that was a mistake, and they've since returned somewhat to this style.
If you like big choruses, good keyboards in combination with solid guitar, and interesting serious lyrics, give this a try. I love it. Played it over and over, and haven't got sick of it.
Standout tracks:
Abandon, Into the Fire: two good rock songs with a great full sound
Under the Sun: bittersweet with a lot of feeling, starting and ending quietly and sadly. "Nothing lasts forever ... especially the things you always wanted to... Method to their madness, or so they say before they throw away the key..."
The Raindance: most synthy song with an almost dancey feel
King of Spades: a song with apparently a more personal touch from Darren.
All the musicians are what I would call solid: talented, consistent, professional, without being superstars and pushing themselves to the fore. This is a real band rather than a collection of musicians, and not afraid to have a full, rich, layered sound - no basic rhythm guitar+bass+drums here - thank goodness, there are now thousands of such bands, indistinguishable except by marketing.
ADDICTED TO MUSIC.......2005-08-20
This is simply the best mix of AOR and Hard Rock you will hear. Great album, great songs .
excellent.......2004-01-03
This is one of the best album to come out of the 80s.The hauntingly brilliant voice of Darren Wharton.( Thin Lizzy) is chilling to the bone. His tribute to Phil Lynott in The King of Spades is a song that i play over and over again,It is sung with such amazing feeling that it ALWAYS makes me cry. This is a MUST have for ANY metal fan that enjoys good honest fantastic music. Why Darren was ever in the background of Thin Lizzy was a crime. With talent like that he should have been up front. He pens such fantastic lyrics and then sings them so brilliantly he is truly a 5 star guy
