Customer Reviews:
Great CD. Why don't they play like that nowadays?.......2007-07-13
This is a great CD, and it is true that after "Hysteria" they have not been the same. I've heard "Yeah" is a decent effort, though I am not inclined to buy it anytime soon. I wonder why they do not play like they used to anymore. Maybe the 80's are over, but I would bet 10 to one that if they made an album like Pyromania or Hysteria nowadays, they would sell millions again. Hey, Elliot, get off your [...], and give us a good album, please!!!
Nifty collection.......2007-05-23
Full points for honesty and integrity on this release. At the time it was put out a sizeable sticker on it proclaimed it wasn't a new album. Which was a nice touch. Also points to the band for having the guts to put this out when many people would of expected just another version of Hysteria - I mean not many bands clear the decks like this. Normally bands foist their 'b' sides and rarities onto fans in some sort of overpriced box set package but the Leps, like Megadeth and a few others, have put out a simple catch all disc.
As to the actual songs I'm not going to do a track by track synopsis but will point out a few salient tracks. Firstly there is the opener Desert Song which is certainly musically the heaviest thing to have come out of the band for a while. Fractured Love moves along nicely and in fact a number of the 'b' sides collected here are pretty handy tunes - Ring of Fire and Ride Into the Sun being two fairly well known tracks among Leppard enthusiasts. Sure, I Wanna Be Your Hero overdoes it on the cheese factor but there are upswings like the cover songs Action and Only After Dark.
Now before we get carried away lets get some perspective in here. And that means being honest and pointing out that yea and verily the ballads are rubbish. Every one of them which is weird given they've written a couple of good ones over the years, evidently the cupboard is bare in this department. Also some of the zest in these tunes would of been welcome on the Adrenalise album.
Brief yet useful liner notes complete this package which along with 1995's Greatest Hits album was a great way for the band to draw a close on the first decade and a half of their career and more ahead with a clean slate. For fans this is good stuff, for casual listeners perhaps the interest won't be there.
If I could give it six stars, I would!.......2007-04-16
Wow. One word for this album - AWESOME!
I just recently bought all the post-Hysteria CD's so I could play catch-up with this old favorite band of mine, and this release is really a shining star. Def Leppard showed with X and Slang that they can blaze forward with the changing trends, but Retroactive is more of a return to their pre-Pyromania sound - but BETTER! The very first track alone - Desert Song - makes the purchase worth it, and there are numerous tracks in addition to that that just blow me away: Ring of Fire, I Wanna Be Your Hero, and the acoustic and electric versions of Two Steps Behind and I Miss You in a Heartbeat.
HIGHLY recommended. I'll probably buy another copy soon as a stand-by since I have a feeling I'll wear this one out pretty quickly....
A must have!!.......2006-11-04
This is an awesome album! Every song is great! Highly recommended!
The Missing Album.......2005-11-04
Wow! I am completely blown away by this album. How I ever missed is it till now I'll never know. It is really, really good. It's one of those albums you put in and right away you know you've got a classic. If your a fan of the Pre-Hysteria Def Leppard you will be thanking yourself for picking this up.
A half a dozen of the tracks rock as hard as any of the music they have ever released. Don't miss it!

Customer Reviews:
bad transfer to digital.......2007-02-20
The songs are great but the transfer to digital form was done poorly. The tracks sound terrible. The volume was jacked up way to high and the low frequencies are overwelming. If your looking for the extended version of goodbye horses, I recommend getting it either on the clerks 2 soundtrack(it sounds great on clerks 2) or spend the money on the original 12 inch single. All the other tracks can be found on their original 12 inch vinyl releases on online auctions for reasonable prices. So in love by Omd is a great song but its sounds terrible on this release. Dont bother buying this cd if you like quality sounding music.
Nice piece for music collection.......2006-02-19
I bought this for one song that was no longer available to buy on it's own. With that in mind, I'm glad to have the other songs too. You know how you get that feeling from way way way back in your mind and things you haven't thought about in years come back? That's what happened when this was playing in the background. Good music from the teenage and early twenties of my life.
As Must Have.......2006-01-01
I must admit I originally wanted this cd because of the ultra rare 12" mix of Love Parade from The Dream Academy. Many if not all are very hard to finds. I could have done without Tears For Fears on this cd but for the rest it's a true find for people looking for the real eighties dance music. A must have for any serious collector.
Goodbye Horses / Hello Euphoria!.......2005-09-24
Attention "Silence Of The Lambs" fans. This CD has the Ultra- Rare Q Lazzarus song (Goodbye Horses) you have been searching for! The hauntingly beautiful music playing while Buffalo Bill struts his stuff is here in all it's glory in a 6 min. 25 sec. extended version! Worth the price of this disc on it's own. However, the rest of the disc will make you want to wax up the dance floor and return to the Synth Pop sounds of the 80's!
Good, but Looking for the original a-ha remix.......2004-11-17
Good to get some of these old vinyl releases I had such as the OMD, Blancmange, and Human League on CD. I was hoping the a-ha would live up to the asterisk and actually be an UNRELEASED version of the song. The Steve Thompson mix of "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." has been available for a long time on 45 RPM Club and Twelve-Inch Club a-ha CD compilations. I hate the droning cowbell and beat. The rarer 12" mix WITHOUT that droning beat is MUCH better IMO, and is still impossible to find on CD. Guess i'll just have to live with the record...

HI-BIAS does it again--some crucial lost 12" singles on CD!.......2006-12-29
Approximately half the tracks on this disc were 12" singles I've been hoping to have on CD for years--and some of the tracks I didn't even know are winners too. A-ha 12" singles have only been available on Japanese A-ha releases...and sell for a FORTUNE. So it is a treat to have hi-bias pulling them out of the vaults. Many Blancmange tracks are also elusive. And a brilliant Japanese compilation of ALL dead or alive's 12" singles was cancelled last year, so it is great to find something other than You Spin Me Round. Just hope they put more of DOA's 12" versions on future releases. The only oddity here is the "howling mix" of She Sells Sanctuary. It was on the "Rare Cult" boxed set, and it's NOTHING like the original, removing all the energy and power.
Some newly discovered treats for me include the new wave ballad "More to Lose" by Seona Dancing (sort of reminds me of "Feels Like Heaven" by Fiction Factory), and the so vocally new wave "Love Cascade" by Leisure Process.
Track times:
1. I've Been Losing You...a-ha (7:03)
2. more to lose...seona dancing (6:03)
3. that's love that it is...blancmange (7:33)

10. love cascade...leisure process (6:22)
11. for America...red box (5:56)
12. she sells sanctuary (howling mix)...cult (8:18)

Customer Reviews:
Not really 100% great.......2007-07-22
One would expect more quality to select tracks not previosly released on CD. One example is to put in the "Popper mix" of Breakaway. Why not the Extended version which is far better then the one they have chosen.
Dub mix of Bananarama's "Cruel Summer". And for the love of our father in heaven why even take a Simple Minds song that is quite ok as a single version and place the 12" version of it on a compilation. After 1 & 2 of Retro Active I feel they quality falls one step further down the ladder for each compilation they release I am affraid. And the sound isn't 100% there are far better compilations out there that offers high quality all the way. And you can even find them here at amazon :)
some excellent choices, and some bad choices.......2005-12-11
This project is excellent! Putting 12" extended versions from the 80's on CD with remastered sound quality is an idea who's time has finally come.
Some of the selections on this volume are exceptional versions of the songs. (someone, somewhere in summertime and one thing for example).
Some of them, however are terrible and should have been passed over for better versions or other songs. The versions of breakaway and cruel summer, in particular are terrible versions of what were two excellent songs.
another hot selection of 80s 12" singles from the series.......2005-04-02
It's especially good to find some gems never before on CD, like the 12" of "Have in Mind" by Cetu Javu (synth pop dance perfection), the 12" mix of "Witchcraft" by Book of Love (although the very different album version is still better), and the 12" of Peter Schilling's "Different Story." Some bad choices include the annoying "popper mix" of big pig's "Breakaway" rather than the slammin 12" extended version, the 89 remix of Cruel Summer, and another remix of When in Rome, since the good mix was on another volume in the series. Let's just hope Hi Bias keeps the good new wave 12" compilations coming, because there's a whole list of stuff i still want on CD. Track times:
1. the promise (6:29)
2. someone somewhere (6:05)
3. breakaway (6:02)
4. one thing (6:08)
5. have in mind (5:34)

9. cruel summer (5:18)
10. take me to the girl (6:35)

13. different story (6:39)

Finally...TIN TIN STEPHEN DUFFY's HOLD IT on CD 1st Time Ever!.......2005-11-03
The rest of the tracks on the latest RETRO ACTIVE CD are nice additions your your 80s 12" collection, but...FINALLY! HERE IT IS! WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION: the first-time-ever-on-CD anywhere - TIN TIN's (aka STEPHEN DUFFY) seminal should-have-been hit "HOLD IT" - while many fans know "KISS ME" or "ICING ON THE CAKE," THIS in my mind is Stephen Duffy's BEST song ever - a perfect, slight synth-pop dance classic - I've literally been waiting for this 12" version to appear on CD for over 20 years! WOO-HOO, thanks Hi-Bias for another carefully, craftily selected CD compilation - I hope more are on the way - do you take requests for rare 80s 12" dance/new wave tracks?
Price high for one disc--find a good price and GET IT.......2005-08-20
The series from hi-bias continues with more great 12" versions. I even found a couple of new wave gems I'd never heard before, like Stephen Tin Tin Duffy's Hold It. I wonder if Hi-Bias takes requests--because I have a list of vinyl only new wave 12"s that could bring them right up to volume 20!!! This disc includes:
1. New Song...Howard Jones (5:33) (this is the B-side to the ORIGINAL US 12" of new song (the a-side was the LP version. It's more like a dub--not full vocal)
2. In Between Days...The Cure (3:58) (an "extended version" that gets to the point. Not the same version as on their "Mixed Up" CD)
3. hold it...Tin Tin (5:53)
4. Burning Flame...Vitamin Z (7:01)(thought this would never make it to CD, but here it is!)
5. Underneath the Radar...Underworld (7:59)
6. This Charming Man...The Smiths (5:34) (how often do you see an extended remix of a Smiths song??? This sure is a collector's dream)
7. Don't Walk Past...Blue Peter (6:16)
8. All That I Wanted...Belfegore (6:06)
9. Wouldn't It Be Good...Nik Kershaw (7:19)
10. A Letter From Afar...B-Movie (8:10)
11. Secret...OMD (6:12)

Volume 10 in the Mood Mosaic series brings us a great collection of groovy-jazz/funk. Sometimes it's hard, sometimes it's jazzy, sometimes it's cinematic and sometimes it's big-band - but it's always good. This is a great compilation and brings together rare funk 45s, tracks from soundtracks and other funky stuff that's only discovered when rooting through charity shop record bins. Stomp. 2006.

Product Description
Seventh Angel was an early 90s English thrash band with a sound similar to that of Vengeance Rising. The Torment, their debut album offers emotion-packed songs with lyrics that promise eternal suffering to the unrepentant (Tormented Forever) and decry such social ills as abortion clinics (Dr. Hatchet). Expletive Deleted encourages Christians to cleanup their language.
