Night Ranger's career was certainly buttressed by MTV, which made the San Francisco Bay Area group a video staple in the early '80s. "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" stands as a fine piece of '80s hair metal, with bassist Jack Blades chunk-a-chunking his pickups to create that rock-locomotive sound. The band slows things down with "Sister Christian," a not-so-powerful power ballad that gave Night Ranger another significant single. Packaging a select portion of their catalog under the Greatest Hits banner is a bit of a stretch, though. Blades didn't even stick around for long, breaking away to join former Styx guitarist Tommy Shaw and Ted Nugent in Damn Yankees. For true devotees of '80s metal, Night Ranger's Greatest Hits is a must-have; for everyone else, enjoyment will last as long as a Night Ranger video. --Steve Gdula

Customer Reviews:
Good Rock, Great Ballads.......2006-09-30
Night Ranger had some likable rock songs, but they especially had some great ballads. This CD has both. Some of their best-known (and highly recommended) rock songs are "You Can Still Rock In America" "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" & "Secret Of My Success." On the lighter side, one has to appreciate "Sing Me Away" "Goodbye" and their biggest hit "Sister Christian."
Lead singer Jack Blades does especially well to not be too whiny or too screechy on the ballads, which can be a downfall to a number of other hard rock ballads from this this time period. This is the best of what the band has to offer and these are some good offerings.
Great Cd Classic Sound.......2006-09-14
This is a CD that should belong on any music lovers list. Night Ranger is one of he best bands of all-time. With songs like "Sister Christian", "Goodbye", and "When You Close Your Eyes" as well as many other classics. This is a great CD it has been remastered very well so the sound quality is great. I highly suggest that you buy this CD today.
Night Ranger: Good Time Music, Man!.......2006-07-14
Night Ranger is one of those good time bands that are best represented by a Greatest Hits collection. The songs here are all great with the exception (for me) the awful David Foster produced "The Secret Of My Success."
Sing Along, Now!
1. (You Can Still) Rock In America
2. Sing Me Away
3. Goodbye
4. When You Close Your Eyes
5. Sister Christian
6. Don't Tell Me You Love Me
7. Sentimental Street
8. The Secret Of My Success (UGH!)
9. Restless Kind
10. Four In The Morning
11. Eddie's Coming Out Tonight
12. Rumours In The Air
Good Stuff! It's not meant to be earth shattering or life altering. It's meant to be fun!
As a end note....Both Night Ranger's 1997 "Neverland" and 1998 "Seven" are worth a listen.
Rocks like soggy toast.......2006-01-08
These guys have to be the blueprint for all the hilarious cheesy songs the Southpark guys use on their TV show and in "Team America". You can't find much rock n' roll music that is weaker than Nightranger. And to think this is the greatest hits! Horrible, horrible music. Back in the 80's when everyone was listening to this instead of the Replacements it was laughable. 20 years later it's even more laughable and shocking. The ONLY way anyone could enjoy this would be listening in a nostalgiac sense. If you were 12 in 1985.
When You Close Your Eyes..........2005-08-14
Well, I suppose I might be biased, since my father actually *wrote* 'When You Close Your Eyes'. yes, that's right. Look at who the lyrics are by, it's says Jeff Smith, and I, am his daughter, Kendall Smith.
Anyhoo, aside from my little brag-fest (MY DAD WROTE IT!) this is a great album. All of the songs are catchy and fun, it's not the best 80's rock, but still really cool and AWESOME! I give it 4/5, plus one star because I love my Daddy. ^_^

Best live CD.......2000-06-17
I love this Cd! Only thing i wish was different was that "sentimental street" was not just Kelly with the piano. Don't get me wrong this sounds excellent on this Cd but i like the "7 Wishes" video version a little better cuz of the guitars by Watson ang Gillis. Sing me away is my favorite song and glad they put this on the Cd! Get it everyone!
Night Ranger never sounded so good!.......2000-03-25
I could not believe how incredible this live cd sounded the first time I heard it. It is incredible! Just look at the track listing! This is one of those cd's that you have to crank, or you won't get the full effect. If you are curious about Night Ranger, or are just looking for a great cd to listen to, here it is! Highlights are: Touch of Madness (rocks!), Sing Me Away, and the acoustic set consisting of Sentimental Street and Goodbye.
Night Ranger in your living room........1999-08-06
Great album! The sound is crisp and clear with no distortion or feedback, like in a lot of live albums. It sounds so good, you'd swear the band was live in your living room, or you were up on stage with 'em! The selection of songs is superior to their old "Greatest Hits" album, since it includes some of their more recent hits. I considered giving this 4 stars simply because I loathe guitar solos on live albums. However, after several listens to the album, I realized that the solos fit well into the context of the concert. They are also mercifully short! Nice to listen to some good, catchy, guitar-driven rock for a change, instead of the drivel being produced today. These kids today don't know what they're missing! If you miss the thumping, fist-in-the-air rock of the 80's, you'll love this album. I highly recommend it (if you can find a copy!)

The Best Power Ballad Mix I've Heard!.......2007-03-29
If you can't get enough of the eighties and nineties, you will love "The Greatest Hits Power Ballads" CD. Whether you grew up in this era, or are just discovering it, you will love this mix of sweet ballads that will bring a tear to your eye, and make you remember your first love. This CD is packed full of some of the biggest musical artists, and includes 12 of the top songs from the eighties and nineties, plus 5 bonus tracks.
The first song on the CD is "Is This Love" by Whitesnake. This beautiful song about finding and loosing love, which everyone can relate to, made it to number two on the charts in 1987. Whitesnake captured our heart for years, but this song will always be one of their best.
Next, is "High Enough" by Damn Yankees. This band was one of the best of its time, and rightfully so, with its array of talented members including Ted Nugent from "Journey", and Jack Blades from "Night Ranger." This song is full of amazing vocals and exciting guitar riffs.
One of the best songs of the decade was "Heaven" by Warrant. Lyrics like, "And the sparkle in your eyes, there's a color deep inside them like a blue suburban sky" will paint a wonderful picture in your mind. This song was number two on the rock charts, and will definitely be in your top ten favorites.
"When I see you Smile" by Bad English will live forever as one of the best love songs. With already successful artists, Bad English topped the rock and pop charts in the late eighties. This song's wonderful music compliments its amazing lyrics, and is sure to captivate your heart.
The eighties and nineties were packed full of innovative artists that changed the way we view music today. Their talent and ear for music created songs that will be remembered for decades to come. "The Greatest Hits Power Ballads" CD contains many other artists such as Poison, Scorpions, and Mr. Big who are sure to excite old memories or create new ones. This is one of my favorite CD's, and it is sure to become one of yours in no time.
