Album Description

Fickle Pickle were a North-West London-based studio band, made up of sundry producers, engineers and sessionmen, including a couple of ex-members of the legendary '60s Psych combo The Smoke. In August 1970 they cut an opportunistic cover of Paul McCartney's `Maybe I'm Amazed', the most radio-friendly song on Macca's debut solo album. Although it failed to register in the UK it made the charts in Holland, as did their follow-up, the self-penned 'California Calling'. On the back of this unlikely success they were encouraged to cut an album, and the eccentric, wildly eclectic Sinful Skinful duly appeared in The Netherlands in 1972, on a tiny local independent label, Explosion. Laden with memorable hooks, mellifluous harmonies, soaring strings and lyrics of cynicism, wit, and wisdom, This expanded edition comes with 14 bonus tracks including various contemporaneous 45s, outtakes and demos. Castle. 26 tracks total. 2006.

This album amazed me! All of the songwriting is very strong here, and the arrangements are at times very creative. The other reviewer complained that this was not psychedelic. He is right, it is not. But who ever claimed that it was psychedelic to begin with? Just the fact that they cover Paul McCartney's "Baby I'm Amazed" should tell you that they were probably not going to be psychedelic, or acid rock! If you are a fan of Badfinger, Wings, or even The Move, then you need to hear this, because these guys sound like a combination of all of those bands, with just a touch of 70's art-school pop thrown in! It is a real tragedy that these guys suffered the fate that they did, because they could sing, play, and write strong hooks. They really deserved much much better.

    Product Description

    Almost everyone who ever liked Angel has a story to tell about Edwin Lionel Meadows, better known to the rock world as Punky Meadows. The legend goes that he was given a sound thrashing by his mom for sneaking out of the house to see an Elvis Presley movie (were not sure from her response whether Mrs. Meadows hated rock or just loved movies). Meadows most famous outfit started off as Sweet Mama From Heaven, but that was not a band name made in heaven, so the quintet soon adopted Angel as their moniker, taken from the Jimi Hendrix song of the same name. Angels whiter-than-white polyester outfits were intended to give the band a sort of counterpoint to their labelmates Kiss more, um, flamboyant, stage wear. And, in a way, the group was never able to emerge from beneath the shadow of Kiss. Sinful, the bands fifth album, followed closely on the heels of their biggest commercial success, 1978s White Hot, which had contained a hit cover of the Rascals Aint Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore. Unfortunately, Sinful didnt contain any breakout singles, and the album only managed to make it to #159 on the pop album chart. Sinful is just a plain old fun kinda romp. If you long for the days when Headbangers Ball seemed to run on MTV three times daily, spandex was the material of choice, and bands like Poison and Winger ruled the airwaves, youre gonna love Angel, the spiritual grandaddy of them all.

    Angel's last album Sinful is just full of
    great guilty fun songs that rock! Why they
    didn't have 5 hit singles? I believe the
    look had turned a lot of guys off the group
    but these guys rocked. Songs like LA Lady,
    Can't buy love, Bad Time are killers. The
    entire album even the love songs are good.
    The production is slick but it sounds like
    what all the arena bands were doing at the
    time so I don't get it! Punky Meadows was
    a great guitar player, Barry Brandts drummer
    is incredible and the rest of the band are all
    talented as well. This is one of the best pop
    metal albums of all time. Get it!

    This is a fun 70's Glam Band. The music isn't the best or the worst. I do think that the band didn't get propper attention for its efforts though. It is a very solid 3-1/2 stars kind of a thing. If you like to listen to "The Sweet" you'll like this stuff. Their other albums fair about the same...good but not great.

      I listen to this album often. It feels so fresh and authentic! The first song, "Sheep, Sheep, Don't You know the road" is inspirational: I'll be tapping the rhythms on the computer keyboard or table before the end, and it's a great song to sing with the little sheep in my life. And I have purchased two additional copies of this CD as Christmas presents for friends to share with them the sweetness and warmth of Vera Hall-Ward's "No Room in the Inn" as she tells the story of the birth of Jesus to her Sunday school children. The fiddling music is superb, as well: Neil Morris and the recording engineer briefly speak after "Corn Dodgers" and for that moment time vanishes. You are there. I could go on. Every one of the sixteen cuts has something to recommend it. This is a extraordinary collection for those of us who love American traditional music.

      In this techno age where the music has about as much soul as a rake lying in the backyard,CD like this one help to remind us of a time before Brittaney and the top boy bands. I highly recommend it and think that anyone who wants real conviction and spirit in their music should give it a thousand listens.

          This album was put together good. The tight beats by Big Hollis and the tight raps by young fierce and the perfessional producing by luni-corleone. It's like a good recipe with the write ingredients. If you like under-ground rap you need to hear this album. THIS ALBUM IS REAL!!! WE NEED MORE REAL PEOPLE LIKE THIS IN DA GAME SO THE REAL CAN STAY TRUE AND ALIVE!!!
