5 out of 5 stars The best Danzig!.......2007-07-18

If this album were just one song, it would be a must have for any true Danzig fan (or metal fan for that matter).

Left Hand Black is one of most intense songs of all time. Its vocals are terrific and the actual music is flat out insipring.

Of course, their are other great songs on the album. But Left Hand Black is potentially one of the greatest songs of all time!

5 out of 5 stars old.......2007-05-25

This album is so frickin old, kiss your career goodbye in the next 3 definately 4 years.

5 out of 5 stars another classic .......2007-02-18

This album is one of his best. I reviewed this once before, but it never showed up here. So here I go again.

First off, this was released back in 1992. I don't remember alot of the music from the time being particularly memorable. Some of it was. This was when grunge started to become all the rage and I would have sold my arm to hear something else, anything else.

This album, though not a million seller, was virtually ignored. This really deserved a wider audience.

Anyway, to the songs. Godless is one of those dark songs that caught me instantly. The opening drums and the guitar riff are just amazing. The song then slows down a bit being punctuated with great chords and little drum fills. The lyrics to this are not as sacrilegious as the title suggests. The spoken words at the end of the tracks are more like poetry and a bit spooky.

Anything is a great mix of light and heavy and remains one of my favorite tracks. It's written and sung very well. Bodies is a bit annoying for me. It is a great song and the lyrics are very dark, but something about it doesn't feel right to me. Maybe its the production. I don't know

How The Gods Kill starts out very quiet and once again the dark lyrics bring many images to mind. This gets nice and heavy in the middle and ends as quietly as it started. Dirty Black Summer is one of the best songs here. I love the spooky, windy type sound that starts this track.

Left Hand Black is lyrically one of the best. I wish the music were a bit different though. It sounds to me like it could have used a little quiet part in the middle, but instead it just has a little section of bass and drums playing instead. Heart of the Devil starts with just Danzig's voice before the music kicks in. This has a good vibe to it and his voice is in fine shape here.

Sistinas is a nice slow song that never really gets heavy. Almost any heavy band out there can produce a song like this. This almost sounds like a love song, but careful examination of the lyrics reveal it as something much darker. I'll leave it to you to figure out. Do You Wear the Mark is another of my favorite tracks, the lyrics and music working very well together.

When the Dying Calls is the ending track here. I don't like this as much, but it's still a decent song. The lyrics are well written, but compared to the closer on the previous albums still one falls a bit short.

One more note on the cover art. I am a huge fan of HR Giger and this painting for the cover was a very good idea. Alot of his work is like this so if you're interested at all just Google his name and look up some images.

This is five stars. There are a few weaker songs here, but no bad songs. If you're into Gothic type rock you should already have this. If you're interested in goth rock and want to know a bit about it, this is a great place to start.

3 out of 5 stars Dont read reviews by Justin Paxton.......2006-11-29

I couldnt hold my tongue any longer...any reviewer who thinks Metallicas Master of Puppets sucks and gives The Geto Boys a rave review has no frigging business anywhere near metal. This bonehead hates Bob Dylan, I guess he never took the time to read any of the lyrics to some of the old gems. Im sorry but dude just stick to reviewing rap albums and save us the negative bull****!

5 out of 5 stars One of my alltime favorite albums.......2006-08-23

Basically this is one of those albums that even though is different from the traditional metal and punk style it still come out great. This album is basically a throwback, to the beginning stages of metal in the 70's, and some thrash elements from the 80's, along with some blues and some some satanic songs and you got top notch album. Glenn Danzig has a crooners voice which sounds melodic but the raspiness of his voice gives a scarier edge at times that could give a haunting voice at times.John Christ's guitarring is great from crushing, melodic riffs and great solos, almost Iommi-esque style. Chuck Biscuits drumming actually has grown on me, here he nessesarily overuses the double bass drum but he still came up with great drumming patterns. EErie Hun, bass is audible, and sometimes adds jazzy style bass licks at times.

Many songs here are dark, gothic like and satanic at points, the slow tempo of some songs are haunting and then kick up steam. Some almost feel like a thrash assault. Basically this album is hard to find one bad song, because I enjoyed the whole album, but my picks on Danzig 3 are Left Hand Black(fav track) Dirty Black Summer, Anything, Bodies, How the Gods Kill, Do you wear the Mark, Godless and Heart of the Devil. Pick this album up, ypu wont be dissapointed.

The band has always made the solemn pledge to create original music that is louder than hell and stronger than steel. The long standing lineup of vocalist Eric Adams, guitarist Karl Logan, drummer Scott Columbus and bassist Joey DeMaio is truly a force to be reckoned with in the studio and on stage. The new album Gods Of War is Manowar's first entry in a cycle of concept albums; each a tribute to a different war god. Gods Of War brings out the greatest of Manowar's musical attributes by utilizing both epic song structures and dramatic narratives. Much like Ragnarok - the final battle at the end of the world - when listening to Manowar's epic saga, the earth will shake, the walls will crumble and only true fans of metal will remain standing, heads held high, with the triumphant glimmer of a battle well-fought in their eyes.

Gods Of War features brand new cover artwork by the world's leading fantasy artist Ken Kelly, as well as a scorching mix done by the unparalleled Ronald Prent.

Besides the normal Jewel Case version, Gods Of War will also be released as a limited edition in an embossed metal slipcase containing a high grade mediabook bound in leather.Furthermore, this limited edition will feature a bonus DVD with unreleased material about the making of this album and some special behind-the-scenes footage. A double-vinyl LP in a gatefold sleeve will also be available.

In their career Manowar has released 9 studio albums, two live albums and 5 DVDs with sales of over nine million records worldwide, as well as silver and gold records and numerous other industry awards. 5 out of 5 stars The Book of Gods is writ. Shall you heed its call?.......2007-07-30

Hark! Open your ears, and listen. Is that the sound of distant thunder? No. That which approaches is more powerful than any storm. It is the coming of a great engine of war you hear, led by four kings: kings so mighty that their very steeds are made of steel. They are riding back out of Glory, whence they rode long ago.

Look! Open your eyes, and see. Lose the scales that obstruct your vision and perceive the world as for the first time, like the newborn babe.

Cast your gaze to the east. A new dawn is rising. And Manowar is the sun.

For is it not written in the Book of the Warriors, chapter 8, verses 18 and 20: "We said we would return, and here we are again... we are the hammer of the gods." Again the words of the prophet have been fulfilled. Amen.

For indeed, they have returned. And this time, they have brought an army with them, and it is a new thing, and a thing by their enemies not expected: an orchestral and narrative sound integrated with the metal. No longer do the hammers of the gods make war upon the unbelievers alone (though never have those hammers been found insufficient, as surely unbelievers everywhere have learned). Now they are joined by the swords of the gods. And may the gods have mercy upon us all.

Yes, this is new, and yet, not new: for was it not Manowar who first wore this Crown and this Ring, and spoke this Warrior's Prayer, so long ago? Is it not known to all that every symphonic, epic, fantasy, Viking and power metal band ever to exist owes its very life's blood to Manowar, for is not Manowar the very Fountain from which all these good things flow?

Here, then, are paradoxes to vex the philosophers: since Manowar metal is, by definition, perfect, how can it possibly be improved upon? Manowar, being archetypal, is eternal, and therefore changeless. And yet, it is written (in the Book of Hell, chapter 1, verse 26): "We are the undefeated, we're not living in the past."

And so, if Manowar has almost become a modern symphonic fantasy metal band, can it truly be said that Manowar has changed? For how could Manowar, being Manowar, be influenced by anything other than Manowar?

Are we not the Immortals (so called in the Book of England, Chapter 5)? Is it not our wont to ask these things? For there are riddles here.

Can an omnipotent god make a rock so heavy that even an omnipotent god cannot move it? If two great weapons of that god, one a great hammer made of the heaviest metal, one a great silver sword made of Wagnerian orchestral music, are struck together, shall both of them be rent asunder - and shall the force of their rending liberate the universe? (And was it not prophesied in the Book of Triumph, chapter 6, verse 26: "they will know the power of my sword"?) Can the irresistible force that is Manowar be stopped by the immovable object called...Manowar? And lastly, this, though it may seem like sacrilege: is there something, somewhere, that could possibly transcend the power of even Manowar?

Now, at last, we have learned. With Gods of War, Manowar has solved the riddle. The answer: Manowar. Manowar, and Manowar alone, can make music so powerful that it is more powerful than Manowar. Only through Manowar can a way be found to sound more like Manowar than even Manowar. And so now we know. Manowar has taught us Wisdom.

Surely, Kings of Metal is the greatest of all metal albums; the number one album in metal history. And yet, hearing Gods of War, can there be any doubt that this is, indeed, the best of all metal albums? This seems a strange geometry. Are our calculations amiss? No. For one plus one equals...Number One, when one factors in a certain common denominator. The answer: Manowar (see The Book of Hell, chapter 5, verse 14: "We were born to win, number one").

And is it not written in the Book of Kings, Chapter 2, verse 23: "We are the kings of metal". And again, chapter 4, verse 16: "High and mighty, alone we are kings." Kings, yes, but more than this. For surely these be messengers not only from the Gods of War but from the very Gods of Metal, come from some high hall to bestow their blessings upon the valiant of this, our lesser sphere. (See The Book of the Hammer, chapter 5, verses 7-8; and The Book of Hell, chapter 3, verses 9-12).

Riddles there are, indeed, for us to ponder, but remember: some things are not for us to know. The prophet shall reveal in its season all that which, for now, may surpass our understanding. Time changes all things; Manowar alone is eternal. In the meanwhile:

Look to the east. A new dawn is rising. And Manowar is the sun.

Hail thou, and kill.

Amen.

3 out of 5 stars Gods Of War??.......2007-07-23

Warriors of the World
Their last album 'Warriors Of The World' was MUCH better. Production wise and sonically this album was very good, but it had no rythmic 'catches' or 'hooks' to make you want to listen to it again. The story-line of this concept album is like the book of Revelation from a Satanic point of view. I think Joey DeMaio really beleives he is a warrior for Wodin (commonly spelled Odin). I think he has lost his mind.

1 out of 5 stars Horrrr..Horrrr..HII! Pardon!!.......2007-07-12

I am a Manowar fan for more than a decade and this is the worst album to date. Like a Sleep medicine.

The songs are nothing new. They are sleeping, because they sound exactly like the other (last 2-3) albums. Enough!

When the start doing some good music?

This album is a shame !

3 out of 5 stars Kings of Metal?.......2007-06-22

Pretty much most of the reviews here say what I was going to say...So I will save it. But I will say...King Diamond. Concept Artist..Great Albums every one(except The Eye), he doesn't need or have 9 minutes of classical nonsense. Classical is good, I like it...But not when I want to hear METAL!! The actual METAL songs on this CD (few) are good, except for that last cheesy Bonus Track...CORNEY!!. I've been a fan for a while, but ever since Louder than Hell they got less a less metal...So Less filler.......MORE METAL!!!

4 out of 5 stars An Epic opus that has fans torn - I like it! .......2007-06-17

Metal has had some great concept records in its nearly 40 years existence. Seventh Son of Seventh Son, Nightfall in Middle Earth, Operation Mindcrime, Helstar's Nosferatu, Savatage's Streets, most King Diamond etc.

However when the gods (er kings) of metal decide to do the same thing, people run the other way.

Why I must ask?

In their 25 years as a band, Manowar have never been adverse to taking risks, its just that they kept these risks under a relatively stable umbrella in hopes of not alienating their fanbase. Symphonies, choirs, instrumental solos, all these elements have been featured on previous records to much aplomb.

With Manowar's 2002 opus, Warriors of the World, the band changed their sound a bit. It wasn't a far cry from their early work, MIXED with the elements of Kings of Metal. The "triplet gallop" rhythm was brought back (think Hail to England the song), the choir vocals brought back, and even a lower guitar tuning were brought in to make a more "epic" focus.

I loved Warriors of the World, in fact, with its more complex (than anything since before fighting the world) melodies and even the Elvis cover (!) I thought it was their best since Sign of the Hammer.

Now that Manowar has been very influenced by Rhapsody (though a little simpler and less ponderous), they come out with an album that leaves their modern fanbase scratching their heads. Its with this I say that it took me awhile to have Gods of War grow on me, and when it did, it grew like a fungus. The acapella parts, the symphonic parts, are just much catchier than Rhapsody (now called Rhapsody of Fire) in my eyes. They're a lot more refined and simple, and this might have something to do with it. Also, there is plenty of METAL to be found in this record, from the title track to the very cheesy "Die For Metal" bonus track (which btw, is not very musically similar to Kashmir, despite the similar rhythm. Musically on guitar its closer to the Clarivoyant by Maiden, other than the rhythm itself).

I don't think the narration is at all engaging however, and the sequel to "A Warrior's Prayer" definitely leaves me cold, as well as the usual "touching" Manowar ballad. I probably prefer Warriors, but I still love Gods of War. I think as a whole they succeeded, though I think songwriting wise its a small step down from Warriors of the World.

"Swords in the Wind" from that album is probably in my top ten Manowar songs of all time.

All I say is, give it a chance!

Triumph Of Steel seems way more ponderous than this in ways, and also way oversimplified.

I wouldn't say it belongs in the top tier of metal concept albums, but I think people have to view it as a concept record or "rock opera" to enjoy it more.

My top five Manowar (not neccesarily in order):

Into Glory Ride

Sign of the Hammer

Kings of Metal

Warriors of the World

Gods of War.

4 out of 5 stars Epic, but . . . .......2007-07-04

I'll take you through this as I experienced it, starting with the purchase.

The first thing you notice - other than the nearly-thirty dollar price tag - is the metal cover. It's not shiny plastic or cardboard with a film over it; that's real metal. It's startlingly heavy, too - when you pick it up the first time, you'll heft it automatically just to get a feel for it. The metal case wraps around a black-bound book that contains the Gods of War CD on the left, the booklet in the center (bound to the book, not loose) and the DVD to the right. The artwork on the discs and the booklet are a bit more racy than the usual cover you see - there are undressed fantasy-style artwork women adorning all three, so fair warning if you're touchy about that. Not that most Manowar fans would be, I'm guessing.

The booklet is written entirely in what is known among scholars as the Elder Futhark runic alphabet. I've studied it for some time now on my own and was startled to see it used for this, but pleased. There's a definite pro-and-con to this - the runes really amp up your feel for the Viking atmosphere for this album, but there's no English translation for non-rune readers. They include a guide in the back, but you have to translate it yourself. I'm fairly accomplished at reading them and it took me a while, so the casual reader should be aware that this will take them a long time. It's mostly a bit of a history lesson about Odin and the Aesir mythology anyway.

In the interest of being thorough, I should mention that they take liberties with the runic alphabet; EF doesn't use some of the letters our alphabet does (no C, Q, V, X, or Y) and actually has three runes which represent pairings of letters - NG, TH and AE (the long E sound). Some of the substitutions they use make sense (K for C, Y for AE) but they use the NG rune for Q and the TH rune for X. So if you're a real scholar of the runes or if you're trying to really learn the runes from this, you might want to look at other sources for information so that you don't get confused.

On to the music - and here's where I got my slight sense of disappointment. I enjoy orchestral music as well as metal, and I'll be the first in line to say that having an orchestra back a metal band can really make a truly epic sound. The problem is that at times it's more like a metal band backing an orchestra. There are some great songs on here - King of Kings is amazing, and Sleipnir gets looped constantly on my CD player - but there's also a lot of, well . . . pomp and pretension. There's times when there's no doubt it's Manowar blowing you away, and then there's times when you just can't believe that it's Manowar putting you to sleep. The Army of the Dead tracks are a bit different; they're not heavy, but they set mood successfully - I get the feeling that they meant several other tracks on here to set the mood but succeeded only in sounding sad. While anyone familiar with the story of Ragnarok and Odin's destiny would say that it is indeed a sad story, you don't pick up Manowar to feel melancholy. And if you do, you get Swords in the Wind - which manages to get a truly epic feel while being sad.

Speaking of which, I can't understand why they didn't put Swords in the Wind on this album as a bonus track - and why they DID put die for metal on. While I like the song, it doesn't make any sense to put it on an Odin-themed album. It's very much out of place and frankly a poor choice by the band.

Overall, I'd give the album itself three stars, but the excellent packaging and my love of the subject matter will get it another star. For anyone looking for typical Manowar, this isn't it. For casual fans or for those who just like Viking-themed material, give it a try.

The DVD is frankly pointless. I had hoped for music videos or maybe live concert footage, but it's mainly ads. Ads for their guitars, their printing company, their photographer . . . there's a brief bit where the band talks about the Manowar philosophy of making an album. Oddly, Joey DeMaio never makes an appearance for that. Just the other three. In fact, you only see him briefly in the photography segment, and only as he poses with the other members. If you're thinking of buying this version because of the DVD, forget it - get the cheaper regular version.

4 out of 5 stars Why?.......2007-06-14

Is more than half the album/CD soft metal? I realize that the songs kick in eventually but this is a bit of a dissappointment. And I don't usually put down Manowar. I still want to hear and see them live.

5 out of 5 stars GODS OF WAR UNITE US ALLL!!.......2007-06-12

First off, to anyone reading this review, disregard the naysayers or opinions of other reviewers on here who give this stellar work of genius anything less than five stars...
That being said, this is in my opinion their best work to date since the timeless classic. "Into Glory Ride". Integrating elements of that record with the bombastic, Wagnerian overtones of this one, conclusively, I can say that Manowar have created the perfect balance. I LOVE the inspiration from themes of Norse Mythology (coupled with the homage to the mighty Norse Gods) juxtaposed with the narrative effects present throughout the album-I am glad to see that Manowar has incorporated and championed the pro-Viking theme with a fair amount of dedication! The use of orchestral effects that pervade the album are brilliant and help create the mood and atmosphere in terms of what the mighty Norseman stood for. Take that with the thunderous, crushing riffs, one can visualize the imagery all powerful Thor as he swings Mjollnir (the hammer of Thor) across the sky, beckoning the "sons of Odin" into battle. Buy this record no matter what..It sure beats the faceless stream of garbage oozing from the sewer pipes of MTV and of our trendy, commercialized, pop culture. To Victory or Death!! See you in Valhalla!

5 out of 5 stars Manowar returns and it was worth the wait........2007-05-15

Manowar has returned after many years with a great new studio album and it was worth the wait. At first listen I wasn't blown away by it, but the more I listen the more I like it. The album is a grand concept done in a Manowar way, orchestrations, narration, choirs, and heavy metal. All hail Manowar.

5 out of 5 stars Manowar...The Soundtrack.......2007-05-13

At first listen you might think have I purchased the right cd. There is no Manowar, it's all classical music. the cd has a soundtrack feel to it. There is also a narrator who has that Orson Wells touch to it.

the cd booklet is all written in Norse. They give you a guide to translate. Once you translate the 10 pages you can happily say you can read and write in Norse. I know I can.

Overall if you love Manowar, you'll grow to love this cd. Oh by the way, this is the first part of a trilogy. This is also the heaviest cd I have ever purchased.

5 out of 5 stars Music to sit by the pool to........2006-02-03

This music is the kind of stuff that you grab a beer, sit back, and take it easy on a summer afternoon. It rocks all through the disc, and the bass player is one of the best of all time! Grab this CD before it is too hard to get, you wont regret it.

5 out of 5 stars The Deaf Gods Are Back.......2005-06-01

Deaf Gods of Babylon is the first of what is now four Lord Tracy albums (or CD's as they're called these days) and contains an assortment of songs ranging in style from arena power ballads (Chosen Ones, Foolish Love) to speed metal and thrash (Pirahna) to rap (3HC) to straight ahead, in your face rock and roll (Out With the Boys, East Coast Rose, and Submission). Produced expertly by Mark Dodson, Deaf Gods of Babylon accurately captures the energy and attitude of the band without the added layers of slick manufactured gloss that made so many of the 80's "hair band" releases sound so formula and predictable. In fact, the album is anything but predictable and will catch you off guard with humor and excitement as you move your way through it. Sadly however, following its 1989 release on the MCA label "UNI Records" it never got the promo and support it needed (UNI folded shortly thereafter) and the stress of trying to carry the entire weight themselves led to the band fracturing apart while touring in early 1991.

Fast forward to 2004. After burying all the old hatchets (and much to the delight of an extremely dedicated fan base) Lord Tracy reforms with all four original members and over the course of the next year releases three new CD's.

The first, "LIVE", was recorded at The Basement in Dallas, Texas in December of 1989 and contains most of the songs from the Deaf Gods of Babylon album. Fans of the old Z-Rock radio network may remember this as it was broadcast nationwide as part of the Coast to Coast Concert Series.

The second of the new releases, "Cull None", contains a mix of songs ranging from stuff on their 1986 demo "Moo Over" to oddities, outtakes and outright derangements captured during the Deaf Gods recording sessions. Cull None would have been a fan club only release in the middle of 1990 had UNI Records survived.

The third and finest of the new releases is simply entitled "Lord Tracy 4" and contains much of what would have been on their formal second album. Like Deaf Gods of Babylon, Lord Tracy 4 shows an incredible range of musical abilities.

All of the Lord Tracy albums, and especially Deaf Gods of Babylon, are thoroughly enjoyable and well worth owning if you can find a copy.

      5 out of 5 stars heavy raunch-n-roll texas style...........2005-04-09

i first heard lord tracy as a deejay for an east texas rock station back in 1989. when i heard the whole cd, def godz of babylon, i likenend it to a southern fried texas version of david lee roth era van halen--lots of great guitar and very tongue in cheek sexual inuendo. these guys were just fun to listen to, and they really, REALLY rocked!!!this cd is a must have for the sheer music alone, and, for pantera fans, you will notice that lead singer and guitarist, terrence lee glaze, was the original lead singer for the texas quartet before phil anselmo joined the band. this cd is worth whatever you have to pay for it in any condition. defineitely check it out. the good news?, after a decade long hiatus, lord tracy is back with a vengeance and performing live. they also have new music for purchase from the band at their website. lord tracy will make the pubic hair on your nuts stand up, so get a copy and enjoy the show--raoul duke

4 out of 5 stars This CD rocks and is funny as hell in places!.......2005-03-05

I am not sure how i got this cd but i love it.

Chosen Ones & Foolish Love are similar to other 80's power ballads

3HC is as funny as AC/DC's Big Balls

Shes a bitch is a perfect song if your ex wife (like mine) is a real big bitch. The chorus consists of the men in the band shouting Shes A Bitch.

East Coast rose is decent as is Out With The Boys.

All in all a solid effort. I wish they had done a follow up so they had a second chance to get big

5 out of 5 stars Add This To Your 60's CD Collection Fast!.......2006-08-08

This album is an excellent piece of British psychedelia. An original VG+/NM 1968 UK stereo pressing on EMI/Columbia will run you over $400.00. This CD really grew on me fast with some wonderful melodies and catchy arrangements that really stick in your head like, "Farthing Man", the hard acid rock of "Misleading Colours" and the breathtaking "I Never Know". Nice two part vocal harmonies that are soulful at times, decent Hammond organ and Mellotron work from a young Ken Hensley (Uriah Heep) and the guitar work is not too shabby either with some nice bluesy leads and overdriven guitar tone to die for that give The Gods a somewhat heavy sound. Weird sound effects like in the "other room" in Pink Floyd's "Bike" try to simulate a psychedelic DMT dimension with little creatures (maybe Gnomes) speaking in, for lack of a better word, computerized-like voices and geometric shapes that segue into most of the songs. The album has a tight production for a debut and is highly recommended. Sound quality on this import CD reissue is superb and sounds like it was remastered from the original analog studio tapes. The 4 bonus tracks are very good too taken from their 45rpm singles I believe. Play it loud!

5 out of 5 stars URIAH HEEP FANS!!! .......2004-09-06

I purchased this because I am a huge "Mark I", Uriah Heep fan; personally, I feel Ken Hensley was the heart and soul of the original band. When I came across this album and read Ken Hensley was in the band, The Gods, it was a no brainer purchase. However, I did not expcet much from the music. Boy was I wrong. This album is a great blend of late 60's British blues, "psych", hard rock and even soul; Hensley's ultra-heavy Hammond organ right up there in the mix. Uriah Heep and future Ozzy drummer Lee Kerslake also is in the band. Add four bonus tracks and you have great sounding, long lost gem for any Uriah Heep fan.
      I highly recommend this album.

5 out of 5 stars The gods of psych blues.......2000-05-29

This band is awesome. I don't like Uriah Heep (keyboardist Ken Hensley formed Heep right after The Gods disbanded), but the sonority of the two bands is pretty different. They played a marvelling mix of psychedelia, blues, hard rock and progressive music. And, the best of all: the previous two singles are presented here: "Baby's Rich"/"Somewhere In The Street" and "Hey Bulldog"/"Real Love Guaranteed". Buy it and play at the maximum volume.

5 out of 5 stars Marilyn Manson must have, for me at least........2007-07-16

Here we go as simple as possible,

      Track
1: The nobodies (against all gods mix) Same as original version.
2: The nobodies (burn 69 mix) Awsome acid-techno fast paced version, end has different keyboad mix.
3: The nobodies (stephanie k mix) Mid paced guitar screech dub-loop all the way through, ambient lounge in small portions of song, repetitious.
4: Personal Jesus (rude photo motor mix) More like an "extended version" of original, simplifed parts showcase vocals. Good if you like original.
5: mOBSCENE replet (mea culpa mix) Striped down to showcase vocal with only manson singing chorus instead of "girl in spirit of oscar wilde", mansons voice is more canned sounding with a constant thud thud thud beat.
6: New *hit Invective (obiter dictum mix) Pounding, slightly faster and very digital mix, nothing too different other than this.
7: This is the new *hit (sergio galojan mix) Great remix, guitar dub work floats around in parts, pounding very percusive chorus.
8: The Not So Beautiful People (from japan bonus disc) Great rockin mix if they would have left out the sample of a guy saying "nowhere" all
      through it.
9: The Fight Song (slipknot remix) Possibly the best remix ever in my opinion, give me chills as it blows the roof off.Love the sirene.
10:Tourniquet (prosthetic dance mix) same as on "remix and repent" I never cared much for the original version but this an slight improvement, not a lot different though.

The Personal Jesus (rom) is out of this world gothic glam with the whole band in whiteface and girls riding as four horsemen of the apocolypse but it should have stated it was computer rom.

4 out of 5 stars Ever So Slightly Disapointed.......2005-03-25

I love Manson to death and am fickle about owning everything he releases. This import is pretty damn good. There are a few good remixs on it, and a few boring ones as well. If you love Manson then you have to own this CD. Even if you dont like any of the remixs (Which I highly doubt) it's kinda cool having an import with japanese text all over it in your collection of Manson memorabilia.

The only problem I have with this CD are the videos. Now I had to buy this because the Personal Jesus video was not on the Lest We Forget DVD, but this is not a CD/DVD, it's like a CD/CD-ROM or something. My XBox, PS2, and DVD Player will not read it as a DVD :( so I have to watch them on my crappy computer > <

On top of that, the Manson site exclaimed that this CD would contain a NEW Nobodies video, but the video is basicly the same thing as the original, there are like 2 or 3 things he changed, and any normal person would think they were watching the same exact video.

So the visual aspect of this CD is tainted (for me anyway) but the remixs are solid and worth the money. I reccomend this CD to any devout Manson fan.

      Happy Hunting Mansonites!

2 out of 5 stars is this the best?.......2006-02-01

I've really enjoyed the other Nuclear Blast compilation series but this was a letdown. Perhaps one shouldn't expect the best songs in compilations but if you want to highlight your bands and get people interested in buying the band's CDs, then this compilation is not going to help encourage this. Overall I felt it was weak.

the only songs i like are emperor, dimmu borgir, cradle of filth, agathodaimon, covenant, dissection, dismal euphony, naglfar, and gehenna is ok. i think satyricon, immortal, mayhem, and the abyss is just mindless noise. and i think bal sagoth and enslaved are laughable thay are so silly. especially bal sagoth, what with the fake trumpets and all.

      Amazon.com

It seems crazy to cover definitive metal songs such as "Highway to Hell," "God of Thunder," and "Screaming for Vengeance" unless you are trying to redefine heavy metal, which surely isn't Iced Earth's intention. For their many young fans, however, Tribute to the Gods is a crash beginner course in headbanging history. In the early 1980s, these same Judas Priest, Kiss, and AC/DC songs first spun Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer into a vortex of metal mania. Now, his version of Iron Maiden's classic "Hallowed Be Thy Name" will surprise those who think Papa Roach only borrows riffs as a last resort. Strong on dueling midtempo guitars, the band tackles Blue Öyster Cult's "Burnin' for You" with finesse. There's a lack of energy, however, on some of the simpler songs. Inadvertently, Tribute proves Iced Earth belong with imitative second-wave bands like Accept and Helloween. --Ian Christe

      Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Mostly good but..........2007-08-02

there are a couple songs here, most noticably "Number of the Beast" that Iced Earth totally butcher to hell. I think on these they tried to make them their own and something new but in this case, that isn't a good thing. Number has a great riff on it and you can't even here it. It's less melodic and the only good part is Barlow to be honest. I don't know what Schaeffer was thinking here.

Outside of that though, it's mostly a good tribute. The standouts to me are the Kiss tracks because to me, Barlow has an unbelievably similar voice to Paul Stanley which is something I never really realized until this album which I find quite interesting. The other standouts are the final two tracks that are "Black Sabbath" and "Hallow be thy Name" probably because they're epics and Iced Earth is known for their great epics.

Overall, I recommend this cd. While it is definitely not Iced Earth's best or the best tribute CD I have, it is worth it, just be warned about hearing some butchering on a couple of tracks.

5 out of 5 stars What the Gods deserve.......2006-04-29

When I listened to these covers I couldn't believe my ears. Iced Earth presents tributes to the biggest bands ever. The idea of playing covers is to give them a particular touch given by the band that plays the tributes. That's why the songs don't sound the same as played originally. But still, Iced Earth respects the name and history of these musical groups like Kiss which is the band I love the most, and I know for sure that the highest band in the world is honored.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty damn good cover album!.......2006-03-27

I have to say that rarely will I check out a cover album, yet alone buy one, but this one I wish I got sooner!! Iced Earth covers mostly 70s & early 80s tunes but they give these tracks a modern day heavy & raw sound which is nice! They are not trying to perfectly copy the original version of the songs & it sounds like Iced Earth playing them! Definitely cool if you want an upbeat metal album that also gives you a musical history lesson!

2 out of 5 stars ICED EARTH KICKS SERIOUS ASS.....BUT.......2005-08-29

THESE SONGS THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO COVER ARENT ALL GOOD....THE IRON MAIDEN AND PRIEST IS GOOD, BUT THE REST JUST ISNT.

1 out of 5 stars Not very good, unless..........2005-08-11

Not very good, unless you like that low growl voice that doesn't seem to take much talent to generate. At least this singer is able to get most of the lyrics across in an intelligible manner, but it's a disservice to these songs to growl them out. Your own stuff, OK, but not these classics.
