2 Great Albums.......2006-02-04
Obituary changed the world of Death Metal. When Death Metal was all fast drumming and lightning fast guitar work, and Black Metal was High Pitched vocals (shrills) and more of the same, Obituary came and slowed it down just a bit, and for some reason if just FIT. What really makes Obituary stand out from the others is the vocal work of John Tardy, who I believe might be one of the best vocalist in Death Metal Genere (second to Chris Barnes) These are classics to have in your collection, and even though I am not happy with the direction RoadRunner Records took over the past few years (the dumped almost all their death metal acts and replaced it with the likes of Slipnot and such) my hats off the the label from giving us the "Two from the Vault Series" Its nice to see that the old school death bands are getting remastered and put out in these collections. Hopefully younger audiences will pick up on these, and ditch their Korn, My CHemical Romance, Slipknot, and other nonsense nu Metal bands and learn something about extreme music. Whats even better is there is another Obituary "Two from the Vault" Series. They were one of the best, and still kick some a** today with their new CD "Frozen in Time" If you don't know anything about Obituary, I suggest you get to know them soon..ENJOY
Good two albums.......2005-07-11
I have to say first off that I liked James Murphy on "Cause of Death" so I am VERY partial here. "The End Complete", to me, is the superior of the two albums but has one MAJOR flaw: EVERY SINGLE solo by Allen West sounds the same. It's one thing if it's like Kirk Hammett soloing where every one has the same scale but this guy is repetitive! The riffs are good, the drumming is excellent and, well, the vocals are what I expect from John Tardy. Unfortunately I can't stand the soloing sooo...I hope that Frozen in Time is a ton better! But, these two albums are worth it, that's why I have both of them!
Obituary Rules.......2005-02-28
I wasn't a fan back in the day, being more into thrash and power metal back then. I picked this 2 for 1 release up because I wanted to hear the band due to the fact that everything I had ever heard about this band was good.
My favorite here is The End Complete. There are not too many vocal parts in some of the songs. It is the technical musicianship of this band that really stands out. The riffs are slow to mid pace generally speaking, then there are some speed changes which lead into the faster sections, and usually an Alan West lead guitar break and solo will come into play around this time as well.
The musicianship is technically brilliant throughout. The drumming is another highlight: fast, accurate, perfectly timed, and used very well to introduce and initiate speed changes. The drums sound very crisp and clean, not like sticks on a trash can lid at all. The overall sound of course is very intense and heavy, but its obvious the band is in complete control at every moment, and totally enjoying it as well.
Another great thing I respect about Obituary is that the lyrics are decent, and inspiring, sort of like apocolyptic poetry. There's none of the sicko CC lyrics or the anti-God rubbish of Deicide, and what a bunch of losers that band are.
Obituary certainly deserve respect for what they achieved. And to hear these classics re-released, and sample the astounding consistent outstanding quality of the music, you know that this was truly a great band. Get into Obituary if you never did before. If you are into class musicianship, this band definitely should be for you
Easily worth your money........2004-07-10
Obituary embodies death metal - tortured vocals, creepy guitars, and blasting drums. At other times, they embody doom metal, with sludgy riffs and a slow pace. Whatever, Obituary are awesome, and this two-fer set is probably the best way to get into them. It packs their best album (The End Complete) with a good album (World Demise), for the price of one. Each album is remastered, and features bonus tracks.
On the downside, no lyrics are included (though the vocal are partially understandable). Plus, the cover artwork is horrible. What's with the cheesy, kinda CG looking hands and crypt, with the bands name looking very out of place? Would it have been so hard to simply have the band logo, and pictures of the albums included?
Anyway, those complaints mean nothing when the music included is this good. Well worth buying.
beauty.......2004-05-04

((_World Demise_)).......2005-02-27
Obituary are a classic Death Metal band. Combining slow death metal riffs, and inhuman vocals. All of these songs are just so perfect. It's hard to fault them.
The album starts off with the awesome groove of "Don't Care". They have a video for this song too, which goes together with the World Demise kind of reality..Because they're playing in a field with dull factories in the background, and black smoke in the air. I especially like John Tardy's vocals on this song too.
The second song, "World Demise" is a little faster. But still has a certain 'groove' to it. (Not sure if groove is the right word here, but i hope you know what i mean..) "Burned In", the 3rd song, is definitely one of my favourite Obituary songs. It just has a powerful riff to it, and is hard to explain. Basically, like i said..I can't fault any of these songs as they're all great.
The bonus songs here on this CD are, Killing Victims Found*, Infected* (Live), Godly Beings* (Live) and Body Bag* (Live)..To hear them Live is great too. I hope someday they come out with an Obituary DvD. I'm sure all Obituary fans are hanging out for that. ..The song, Killing Victims Found, just destroys too, by the way.
Honestly, if you are into Death Metal even a little bit..check this band, and this album, out. I doubt after listening to this, that you could fault it either. It's a classic Death Metal album that, i think, doesn't get enough recognition. It's definitely in my Top 10 Death Metal albums, that I own.
Easily 5/5.
SOLID METAL.......2004-07-01
Obitaury is a solid band with killer guitars, thundering drums and
some good bridges to go along with it all.I'm not to sure if Obituary is still rockin I think they re-unite for a show.I
really get into this band they show alot of talent especially on
this one.GO GET IT.
Excellent Death groove album.......2004-06-22
You wouldn't believe how suprised I was to see "World Demise" and "The End Complete" together on one disk for only 15 dollars. What a steal this was and how amazed I was when I heard World Demise. This is an excellent Death metal cd that grooves hard but crunches heavy.I love the brutality of this album, the singer screams his ass off and the guitar work is simple yet fits right in with their style of music. The lead work is great and they prove they ar worthy of their spot in the metal world along with bands like Cannibal Corpse, Death, and Morbid Angel.Five stars for anyone who likes metal that grooves yet kicks serious ass. Their best album
YEEEAAHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-04-16
What can I say? Obituary's 1994 release "World Demise" is by far a classic. Not to say it's there best work.....because it isn't. This is more of a hardcore death metal than all there earlier albums.
"Slowly We Rot" & "Cause of Death" are the two best. James Murphy played guitar on "Cause of Death" when Allen West left the band for a short time.
"End Complete" was alright to a point. More of a slower album with some cool guitar rifts.
"Back From the Dead" sounded to overproduced and thrashy but still managed to pull it off. And "Dead" was a great live CD with most of there greatest hits.
As for "World Demise" it is a classic and should be owned by every death metal fan out there. Many people I know that own this album say that the song Don't Care is the best song.....I disagree. In fact it is still a powerful song I would have to say the two best songs are Burned In & Lost.

Don't Care.......2003-07-30
Obituary were victims of their own success. With the stunning combination of a legendary debut, a follow up album which many rate better than the first, and a third album which was the highest selling Death Metal album of all time, it was bound to come a little unstuck on the fourth album.
There is nothing obviously wrong with 'World Demise'. It takes the raw brutality of 'Slowly We Rot', the Celtic Frost worship of 'Cause Of Death', and the clinical precision of 'The End Complete' to a new level. Everything Obituary made their name with is here - thunderous guitars, assault and battery of the drum kit and of course Donald Tardy's trademark vomitory death grunt.
Obituary developed a very tight sound, which first became evident on 'The End Complete', and became fully operational here. A lot of the fuzzier, less distinct parts of Trevor Peres' rhythm guitar were sharpened up. Some of the charm of early Obituary was the fact it was recorded primitively, giving it a warm "feel". Crisper production, and improvements in playing technique took a lot of that feel and character away from the band's sound. In its place is a more precise, colder, almost robotic feel, more synthetic than natural. Everything seems exact, deliberate, planned, and faultless. Many former fans were put off.
What better than a mechanical sound for decrying pollution and industrialisation though? Opener "Don't Care" and "Solid State" particularly demand instant respect for exacting execution. Like an automated Orwellian nightmare, they stamp on your conscious mind remorselessly. Escaping the nightmare, "Final Thoughts" explores the last flickers of neurons through the brain before you pull the trigger.
Death Metal can be a very restrictive genre to work within. A lot of fans expect things to be exactly right, with little room for deviation. Obituary tried something a little different here. There are vocal samples mumbling away under a lot of the tracks. Who knows what they are saying, but the almost subliminal effect on the sound is engaging. Also, on final track "Kill For Me", there are African tribal percussion samples. The loop adds an interesting percussive effect. It is unfortunate the band did not explore this avenue further.
Time hasn't been terribly kind to this album. The first three are fondly remembered by most fans, but not this for some reason. It is really a continuation of 'The End Complete'. Perhaps it is because Death Metal had progressed and caught up with where Obituary had been five years earlier.
