The title says it all, this is not music............2007-07-04

Thankfully the noise is so loud, you can not make out the lyrics unless you look at the record label for the text to all the songs. But even if you could understand the music, it would make no difference. This is not music, just loud noise. The music industry stopped making music twenty years ago.

The only album better than this one in AC/DC's catalog is Back in Black. Buy them both!

The legend of Bon Scott....4.5 stars .......2007-05-15

The last of the '70's Bon Scott albums, "Highway to Hell" is arguably the best AC/DC CD, save for "Back in Black". What Bon had that his successor does not is an authentic bluesy swagger, and wolf- like howl. When Bon sang it, you believed it. This is real bar brawl music and requires a swig of whiskey and some Camels to thoroughly enjoy. These songs rock from start to finish, and with no dogs, this is just about as good as AC/DC gets. Highly recommended, especially "Night Prowler", one of the best ending songs ever recorded. Nanu-Nanu

In my opinion this is the best of the AC/DC albums. If you do not like all their music you will still find songs on this album you will enjoy.

Man, "Highway the Hell" has to be one of the greatest rock songs ever...I mean c'mon??? The riff, the lyrics, the beat, the production.....just flawless. This song and its accompanying album, released in July of 1979 put AC/DC into the stratosphere. No longer seen as dangerous rock n'roll underdogs, threatening to rape the headliners they supported in tours across the US and Europe over the last three years, they were now headlining superstars. Produced by the infamous Mutt Lange who would twiddle the knobs for 'Back in Black', Def Leppard's best selling albums and spouse, Shania Twain (how many records has this guy produced that have sold over ten million copies!!!!????), AC/DC provided their record company with a multi-platinum sound but kept their raunchy roll. Bon Scott's swan song (February 1980, RIP), there could be no better way to go for this gutter rat who became immortal and should be considered one of rock's greatest frontmen. Young, Young and Scott were not a lawfirm but a trio of short delinqents who crafted an absolute masterpiece of hard rock. "Highway to Hell" has already been gushed about but what about "Night Prowler", as pure a blues as the band ever did and pure malevolence. Why did they get so much crap for this song? Because Richard Ramierez chose it as his personal anthem (imagine if that psycho loved Slayer instead?)In no way should that hurt your enjoyment of any of the manic tunes on this landmark lp. "Shot Down in Flames" is awesome and funny (toss off buddy she's mine). "Girls Got Rhythm" is sort of a mission statement for rock stars...."got that backseat rhythm". "Walk All Over You" is beautifully diabolic with the best backing vocal track the band had done to date! "If You Want Blood" like "Highway" is an ode to the destructive lifestyle of bands who leave it all on the stage including their lifeforce...."Love Hungry Man" is probably the most underated track and "Touch Too Much" may be a bit to poppy (too much Mutt!) but both hold up their spaces on the track list. Pissing off the religious community with a doozy of a cover and title, AC/DC cemented their status as quite possibly the greatest pure rock band to walk the planet, but at the ultimate cost, the loss of their class clown and master of ceremonies. On the highway indeed....

Just About Perfect.......2007-01-25

Ac/Dc is a band that is truly in a class all itself,they have never changed their style to fit what the flavor of the week is. I really respect that. Every release from Ac/Dc is filled with high energy blues tinged hard rock and roll meant to be played at 10! Highway To Hell the release that followed 'If You Want Blood' is just about perfect,this along with 'Back In Black' is what I would play for people who are just learning about Ac/Dc. It has their absolute best song ever,the title cut 'Highway To Hell',it also has one of their most underrated songs 'Touch Too Much'

Let me explain...this CD is absolutely great from start to finish,if you crank this up to 10 you are experiencing hard rock in it's bare ultimate form,all of today's bands should listen to this and take notes,lots of notes. Angus is playing guitar the way it was meant to be played,where every note is filled with emotion and meaning..and the rhythm section is as tight as can be,without excessive stuff that isn't needed...Ac/Dc never needed to show off to prove how great they were at their instruments...and of course there is Bon...Bon was truly one of the greatest rock and roll singers of all time,because he had a distinct style that many of tried to copy but no one has ever done it like him. In Highway To Hell he perfects the art of rock and roll singing

the bottom line - This is one of the 2 albums I'd play for anyone just learning about Ac/Dc or rock and roll in general (the other being 'back in black') Run out and buy this...it's classic ..the donutman says so!!!

Not the best of a great lot!!.......2006-06-28

Firstly may I just begin by reminding all those people who seem to take delight in trying to make out AC/DC as a bad band that without this group Guns and Roses and the rest of the spandex brigade would be nowhere. AC/DC was not a second time around 16 year old heavy metal pleaser (like so many of the second and third wave groups) but they importantly (along with others Black Sabbath. Led Zep etc) created the whole heavy metal genre. To listen to a AC/DC album from the Bon Scott era is as fresh today as it was then. Think 50s rock and roll and add in Muddy Waters with a distorted guitar and your close. It is also important to point out that unlike most of todays groups AC/DC attracted not only new metal heads but also gained the respect of hardcore bikers and the like. AC/DC bites the others only sting.....

Now onto this album. Yes it was the last of Bon Scotts albums and I believe (and I am a total champion of the group) that this album marked the beginning of a more commercial and slick type of production. The producers were changed for this album and an attempt was being made to make the band more appealing to those outside of Australia. It has to be remembered (although today difficult to imagine) that upto this point AC/DC were still very much a Australian band and appealed to the Australians more than the rest of the world. Hence this album starts to make a more smooth production which paves the way for countless other groups who have taken on this sound. What no group (maybe with the exception of Motorhead and the old 60s banns) have been able to do is create a totally new sound. Please remember in the days when the new wave metal bands were still in nappies AC/DC were creating a new sound. One which only latter became known as Heavy Metal.

The album is good but if you want to hear AC/DC at their uncommercial best try Powerage. Its real blues and thats that.

And of Bon Scott. No body and I mean nobody will ever tell me that he was not the greatest rock singer of all time. So dont even try.

The last with Bon.......2006-02-03

Highway to hell is the last album featuring Bon scott as lead singer he died few months after this album came out.Bon scott always knew that Ac/dc would become big it did but he didnt saw it .He probably was on his highway to hell.

The album is a must-own for Ac/dc fans because its the last album with Bon but its one of their best album too.There are some tracks that are more popular than the others and one of the most famous Ac/dc songs is the title track `highway to hell`.But there are many great songs on this album.

Other great songs here are `girls got rhythm`,`touch too much`,`if you want blood you`ve got it`and others that make this album of of Ac/dc`s best.Bon scott was awesome but he died a bit after this he does great job here at the mic and at writting too.

The booklet included in it is cool its got nice pictures and some important facts about the album its a great album with the last of Bon scott so make yourself a favor Ac/dc fans and buy this album in the memory of scott.Highly recomended.

Good Covers Of Druggie Tunes.......2007-03-17

Way back in 1989, the Make A Difference Foundation convinced some (at the time) prominent hair metal and hard rock bands to cover some of their favorite rock songs from bands who had members die due to drug use. Money raised from the project would then be used by the foundation to fight drug addiction. It was a great idea at the time but it's funny that many of the bands on this album were actively using drugs at the time.

None of the covers are that bad. The best songs, in my opinion, include Gorky Park's "My Generation," the Scorpion's "I Can't Explain," and Ozzy's "Purple Haze." Cinderella's version of Janis Joplin's "Move Over" is also excellent. Other bands on the album include Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and Skid Row. There's also a drummer's delight in "Drum Madness" and highlights from a Moscow music festival.

Overall, it's not a shabby album. The live performances are pretty forgettable, but the album's other tunes are worthy of multiple listenings. If you really love hair metal and hard rock like I do, you'll be just fine purchasing this album.

A once hard to find title now easily available!.......2006-05-10

Yep, back in the day - well, pretty much straight after it's release - this was darn hard to get hold of. But now the wonders of the internet blah blah blah allow you to get your your hands on your own copy of this little gem.

But don't get too excited over it just yet. Since nobody else has reviewed the plain jane, non import version of this release, I'll give you a track by track synopsis.

Gorky Park - a bunch of Russians from memory cleaned up and passed off as some sort of 80's hair metal band. These boys were probably totally wide eyed at even getting a look in - some might have expected the Russian band Autograph to get the nod. But luckily for Gorky Park they sang in English. Here they do a take of My Generation. During the late 80's cold war whether they got the irony of this choice is unknown to me. They don't do a bad job if it though Who fans may roll in their graves.

Skid Row - These boys were on a high at the time and give us a rousing rendition of Holidays in the Sun, Sebastian Bach having the right amount of middle finger pull off the trick of taking this track from silly to kicking butt.

Scorpions - Can't Explain. The Scorps deliver here, in fact this track seems to suit them and by keeping it to a somewhat subdued delivery, they actually produce a better result that if they'd blazed away. It's even made 'best of' collections by the Scorps over the years.

Ozzy Osbourne - Yep, the Prince of Darkness was actually better known for his music and weird antics back when this was recorded, as opposed to being on a reality TV style show. Of course his vocals are totally different to Jimmy Hendrix but this track works, weirdly enough.

Motley Crue - A remarkably dumb band. And a fairly lacklustre run through of this cover tune. Any Crue completists out there thinking of buying this album for this track should really think again.

Bon Jovi - BJ were given some hassle even at the time for being particularly unadventurous. So to hear them do a Thin Lizzy track, well it's kinda different. They actually managed to give it 'the old college try', but it's still a fairly average track.

Cinderella - Move Over, the track Cinderella contributed to this exercise, is totally forgettable. In my personal opinion the original wasn't worth much, and their version of it is pretty poor. Avoid.

Drum Madness - By this stage of the disc, if your still listening you'll actually be hearing... well nothing much of worth.

Jam - the jam session at the end isn't bad as it allows us to see our heroes in full flight doing a weird medley of stuff, namely Hound Dog, Long Tall Sally and Blue Suede Shoes. Not my personal faves perhaps, but it's certainly a fun way of bringing the album to a close.

Overall fans of this era should probably buy this disc, it's a kinda cool recorded document to have in your collection. But as there are only a few great tracks on it, you won't find it life changing or anything like that. But turn your brain off and drift away to those halcyon days of the late 80's. And remember, this product was all done in a good cause, so that's gotta be worth something too.

This is a really unique CD. It's got all the great 80's Metal bands set loose to belt out their favorite tunes. A great way to see another side of these guys and to get a feel for what influenced them when they were young and aspiring Headbangers. Some of their picks surprised me. I HAD to buy this so I could have every recording by OZZY. (I even have his funky "Shake Your Head" with Was (not Was) and his duet with Miss Piggy on "Kermit Unpigged".) His choice of "Purple Haze" on this CD was interesting. He nailed it as only Ozzy could. By the way, the correct title is, "Stairway to Heaven/Highway to Hell". Every Headbanger should have it!
