Aaron Gillespie is a man obsessed. Whether he's out in front of The Almost, his new, eagerly anticipated rock-based project, or behind the drum kit for Underoath, the Clearwater, Florida-bred songwriter/musician can't help but throw himself into everything he does.
With Southern Weather, The Almost lets Gillespie put a different, more melodic side of himself on display. Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his idol Dave Grohl, who stepped out from behind his drum kit to capture the rock world's hearts as one of the genre's most visible frontmen, Gillespie has begun a metamorphosis.
The disc's commanding opening track and first single, "Say This Sooner," introduces the album with an attention grabbing, percussion-driven anthem. "I grew up in the Deep South," Gillespie says of the urgent, hook-fostered opener. "Like anyone, I've had struggles along the way. But I am very much informed by Southern values and I think the songs speak to that."
Between his own duties out in front of The Almost and Underoath's touring and recording schedules, Aaron Gillespie is fully committed until 2008. For now, he's a firm believer in his ability to balance both. "Underoath is extremely special to me," he says of the group he co-founded in 1998 which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Album Chart with June 2006's Define The Great Line.
"Southern Weather has got a much broader scope," he continues. "From a 12 year old listening to her iPod on the school bus to a 38-year old guy commuting on a train, I'm excited by the fact that this album can find an audience with a lot of different people."

Underoath without the screaming.......2007-07-06
Very similar to underoath but only singing. The great thing is that my wife will actually listen to this one with me.
Souther Weather- The Almost.......2007-06-27
The first song of the album is great and is probably my favorite song. The first couple songs are great, but i have to say I got a little bored during the middle of the album. I think the last couple of the songs are great though. It is not what i expected. It was just okay. I suggest you try the band Underoath also because the singer of The Almost is the drummer/singer in Underoath.
The Almost are almost there........2007-05-20
This is a good debut for Aaron and company.I got hooked on these guys after I saw Say This Sooner on the tube, and I bought the the album as soon as it was released.Almost all the tracks are great but my favs are Say This Sooner,I Mostly Copy Other People, and Stop It.Can't Wait to see what these guys release next time.

(kids review because i dont have an account)
Wow. This is a great album. go on their myspace and listen to "say this sooner" and trust me you will not be dissappointed. if you like that song you will definitely like this cd. it is very creative, and it breaks from emo and southern rock and alternative... its very tough to define the genre because it really has a fresh sound. the best songs on the cd are "say this sooner" "southern weather" and "call back when im honest". its a pity everyone is so skeptic about this cd just because the frontman is the underoath's drummer. whatever, the guy has talent, i give it up for him. 5 star cd.
Good Christian Rock.......2007-05-14
I'd like to see a little more variety in sound from an album, but overall a good christian rock album.

Unlike most emo bands that merely offer a laundry list of personal hardships over the sound of loud guitars, the members of Anberlin know that they can seek salvation in a higher power, so the songs on Cities aren't so much about self-pity as self-preservation. It's a refreshing twist on the formula, especially when paired with the industrial-strength hooks the spiritual Florida band knocks out on tracks like "Dismantle. Repair." and "Godspeed." On the latter, the group's frontman Stephen Christian lashes out against the bad habits of his secular counterparts: "Tell them who you were, who you really were/Kill yourself slowly over time, fashion statement suicide." --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
Instant classic.......2007-07-29
The reviews here speak for themselves. This is great, great stuff. Anberlin is able to successfully and continually mix energy, emotion, and creativity. They have a style all their own and at the same remain completely original. They really nailed it with this release. NTFP was really good I'm sure we all agree. But this is another level. The only word to describe "Fin*" is epic. One of the most incredible songs ever written in my books. Lots of variety here too. Disgustingly good album by a great band. Give me more Anberlin
Best CD of the year, so far.......2007-06-28
The best album I have purchased this year. The catchiness never lets go for the whole cd from (Debut) through (*Fin).
Tracks of particular interest are:
A Whisper & A Clamour, the first track I heard (on local radio). It grabbed my ears and made me listen.
The Unwinding Cable Car, something about the melodies and harmonies on this track really gets me.
(*Fin) Probably my favorite track. This is an epic piece of music that closes the cd with greatness. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for boy choirs.
If you like emo music that's not simply emo music and is even a bit positive at times then go right ahead and click this cd into your shopping cart. You will like it.
Rock and Roll Heaven.......2007-06-20
On their third release, Anberlin has more than come of age. Once again teamed with super-producer Aaron Sprinkle (Kutless, Hawk Nelson), the band delivers arguably their best work yet. Lead singer Stephen Christian has one of the best voices in rock, in my opinion. On this disc he also delivers very introspective musings in the lyrics. The album kicks off with the frenetic, hard-rocking track "Godspeed." Pop-friendly cuts include "A Whisper And A Clamor", and "Adelaide." The band slows it down a bit on "Inevitable", and on the acoustic gem "The Unwinding Cable Car." Another highlight is the powerful chorus of "Dismantle.Repair.", one of the album's strongest cuts. The last song, "Fin", gives the album a rousing ending, starting slow and speeding up to an emphatic conclusion. If you buy the special edition, there are three bonus tracks and a DVD documenting the making of the album. The three songs alone make it worth the extra money. Also, if you download the single for "Godspeed" on iTunes, it comes with a bonus track "Haunting", which is amazing-worth the $1.98, and should have been included on the album. The band is very entertaining live as well.
A Great Comfort to Me After I Found Out my Friend Passed Away..........2007-06-19
I purchased this CD on Itunes and I had found out that a friend of mine had gone to be with the Lord. I had been planning to buy this for a long time so I did. When I listened to the songs I was feeling very sad.
The songs that comforted me were "Alexithymia", "The Unwinding Cable Car," and "A Whisper and a Clamor". The lyrics of "Alexithymia" reminded me that I really need to live my life because I don't know how long I have even though I miss my friend a lot.
This CD is very uplifting and encouraging. Not to mention it really has great songs on it. This is one of the few albums out there that every single song on it is a great one.
Anberlin, although disliking the label of "Christian Band" because of the stereotyping it brings, are still Christians in a band who write from their experiences. I've liked their stuff since "Never Take Friendship Personal".
if you love good alternative music and if you like good Christian music, Anberlin's stuff is a must buy for a music fan. This is going to be on my Ipod for a long, long time, and in a way, I'll never forget my friend Justin Skaggs, because I'll always think of him when I listen to this music.

Project 86 turns Gothic.......2007-08-01
I rated this CD with 4 stars because musiclly, lyrically and in certain songs ("Put Your Lips To The TV" for one) they have the feel of a good P86 CD but a lot of the songs have the feel of some gothic bands of the 80's and 90's. The first song "Evil - A Chorus of Resistance" and "Ill" sound like it came off of the group "The Sisters of Mercy's" CD "Vision Thing". "Molotov" is classic "The Mission UK". "Normandy" gave me a feeling tht I was listening to "Fields of the Nephilim".
There is enough classic P86 styled songs to keep hard core fans happy and it would be a good add to your collection. I will keep my fingers crossed for their next CD and hope it is as good as "Drawing Black Lines", "Truthless Heroes" and "Songs to Burn Your Bridges By" otherwise P86 might start dropping in my standings.
...and the rest will continue to follow...........2007-07-03
Project 86. Long time listener, long time review writer. To put it bluntly this band has a butt that just won't quit. The band has taken me through a surge of rabid emotions through their long career. They have surprised me, bored me, and come back to win me over time and time again. I enjoyed "..and the rest will follow" but something was missing. It seemed to pale in comparison to the emotionally charged "Songs to burn your bridges by." Rival Factions took me completely by surprise with its electronically charged synth beats. Andrew's blatantly melodic vocal rhythms. Its almost as if this was the record "truthless heroes" aspired to be. A more accessible sound that didn't sacrifice so many of the bands excellent sounds.
The band is comforable with their new found ability to go almost anywhere at this point. You can always count on Andrews deeply meaningful lyrics which range from political, sarcastic, humerous, and allegorical. With every listen this record is villianously infectious. It's guilt free 80s inspired dark synth metal for the masses as only Project 86 can bring it. The perfect record for new fans. Even for a band on their 6th release.
Not your typical P86 CD.......2007-06-29
First spin around, and I was like "WHAT, WHO, WHERE, WHEN, WHAT (again)"
Second spin around, and I was like "WHAT, HMMMMMMMM"
Thrid spin around, and I was like "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
All, that I can say is that I love this album. I would put it #2 or #3 in the list. I still love Drawing Black Lines first, and this one is fighting with Music To Burn your Bridges By for second.
All, I know is that I cannot wait to see them in concert again. The energy on the CD is the same as the stage and that is awesome.
Weird and I like it..........2007-06-27
I was surprised like everyone else (no one saw this coming believe me) when I heard some of the new tracks and the samples. After listening to the cd one time through I discovered how creative, catchy and intense the songs were. It was still Project 86, but totally evolved. Things that you hardly hear in other Project albums such as lots of synth, guitar solo's, alternate vocals (lots of singing but also high pitch screeching which I have never heard Andrew Schwab do, awesome).
Here is my appreciation of the songs individually:
Evil 10/10: The first time I heard this songs I thought I was listening to Queens of the Stone Age, and apart from the synth solo it it is reminiscent of their sound. The groovy rythm and atmosphere of this song are wat make it really good. If you listen to it too much, believe me it will not leave your head. What works really well is that in the chorus you hear two vocals: one singing the melody while the other voice shouts the lyrics.
Put your lips to the TV 8/10: After the deceptive and cheesy piano intro (did I forget to add that there is a lot of humor on this album and it's not only in the lyrics ;-)) the song kicks off with an old-school guitar riff, followed by a more typical Project 86 verse after which the incredibly catchy chorus grabs you by the throat with beautifully desperate sounding vocals from Schwab. To top it off we hear a solo from Randy that sounds pretty basic but works very well in the song as a bridge.
The Forces of Radio have thrown a viper into the rythem section 10/10: This song is awesome lyrically and musically. The things that stand out on this track are the drums, they build up really well to the different parts of the song and Andrews vocals are the best on the album, including aggressive gnarling and snarling in the verse and gut wrenching vocals in the verse.
Molotov 7/10: This song is good although it is not my favorite on the album. The coolest thing about the song is the 'Truthless Heroes-esque' lyrics that criticize modern culture for being all about the party and less about what counts in life. The keyboards play a big role in this song and are always haunting in the background and sometimes on the foreground. The song has a cool ending with Schwab adding extra vocal layers over the melody giving it a very full sound.
Slaves to Liberty 9/10: The lyrics are incredibly positive and kind of remind me crazily enough of 'Lean on Me' but the rock version haha. Again we have a very retro-rock intro riff. I especially like th driving bass on this one. The best way to listen to it is driving on the highway at full speed, you will not be able to stop. Lots of energy and groovy rythm are the signature of this song.
Pull me closer, Violent Dancer 8/10: Think "My Will Be a Dead Man" but then with synthesizers. The vocals are creepy in this song and the synth effect in the chorus sounds like they ripped it off of a classic horror movie. I love the way the synths and guitar blend into a melancholic and dreamy cocktail. The synths are the highlight of this song all around.
Illuminate 6/10: This song is not bad in fact it's really catchy, but it does not possess the intenseness of the other songs. I wouldn't call it a filler but it is the one song that I'm still not incredibly excited over although it does grow on you.
The Sanctuary Hum 9/10: The verse of this song sounds like something that fits well into the Truthless Heroes era, which I really liked. The opening riff actually reminds me of Projects first cd a little. The vocals first sound like what Schwabs voice evolved to on ...And the rest will follow. The verse has Randy and Schwab dueting to a very mellow and dark background. This song is about abuse, church and truth an explosive mixture but then again Project 86 is never afraid of venting thir opinions. Expecially the lyrics in the chorus are very provacative: "God save us, from your chosen ones" It srips in sarcasm and yearning for justice. Beautiful.
Caveman Jam 10/10: When I first heard the name of this song I thought it was a joke, but when i saw it on the actual tracklisting I freaked. Now a little while later it is my favorite song. The fuzzy guitars, the sarcastic lyrics, the high pitched synth building up just before the chorus and erupting into a sonically eery sound, the rythmically hammering vocals in the verse. I'm not a dancer but I can easily see a room go crazy on this vibe and at the same time I could see a rockers rocking out to it, it's that versatile.
Normandy 8/10: This song is again very different from the other songs. The lyrics are some of the best on the album. It is very melodic and not really in your face. It is a cool closer and very fitting for the album.
Verdict:
If you are a closeminded hardcore fan then don;t buy this, but if you like music and are open to innovation you will like this because it is a product of craftmansship. It is a little on the short side but the catchiness and groove of the songs compensate that. The album on the whole has some outstanding songs on it and despite some songs not being perfect the album is because they fit so well together.
This is retro-rock meets hardcore meets synths meets 80s.
New Taste, Same Great Project 86........2007-06-26
Six albums into their career, and Project 86 show no signs of slowing down. Consistently touring, and putting out new albums every one and a half to two years, you have to admire their work ethic. And yet, with each album, they still come through with sincerity and a sense of importance intact. "Rival Factions" is possibly the band's most experimental and unique album to date, which some might view as them changing their ways to find a home on radio. But to throw around such lofty accusations is a waste of time. You won't find any semblance of emo or noisy metalcore with Project 86's newest. Just a new take on the groove heavy, ultra melodic sound we've come to love from our favorite hardcore Christians.
If "Truthless Heroes" or "Songs To Burn Your Bridges By" weren't enough indication, Project 86 are truly the most politically charged Christian band on the scene today, and aren't afraid to stand out from the pack. The great thing about this album and each one before, is that even if you don't follow their faith (I don't) you can still appreciate their message and understand the fire that drives them. From the suggestive packaging to the blistering "Slaves To Liberty," Project 86 have yet to ease up on the themes established early on in their career. If anything, it's at least more exciting than 2005's "...And The Rest Will Follow," which felt like a Project 86 re-run.
Longtime fans may feel turned off at first by the slight change of style for this album. Fact of the matter, the songs are much catchier than before and capitalize on the grooves that used to give way to some of the band's heaviest moments. "Pull Me Closer, Violent Dancer" is a stunning example of how they make a new style work gloriously in their favor. For the moments that the band shifts gears into 80's gothic-dance inspired territory, they still don't let up their signature sound, cryptic lyrics and infectious hooks. Take a listen to the synths on "Illuminate," and yet tell me this isn't just as good as what they've been doing their whole career. It puts a new spin on a tried and true sound. The only thing that truly hurts this album is that it is but a mere thirty five minutes long. It makes for one breezy listen, which is good because it's going to take a few for you to appreciate it, but one can't help but feel that the album ends just as it's getting good. But then again, you know they'll be back in another year and a half with another album, so all is well.

Album Description
Coming full circle in their illustrious career, MxPx has rejoined forces with Tooth & Nail Records after over 10 years since their first release. As well as partnering once again with producer Aaron Sprinkle (Anberlin, Emery, Demon Hunter) who was responsible for the bands early career, manning the controls on their very first LP "Pokinatcha." Their return to their roots promises to be an invigorating and dominate release that will be a capstone on who MXPX was, and show to the world what this band has become. "This record has something for everyone, the fun, fast pop-punk we all love about MxPx, as well as a more artistic and progressive angle, that shows the bands immense talents and skills" says A&R Jonathan Dunn "This record will put MxPx back on the top of the music world, and re-introduce them to loyal fan base, as well as expand them well beyond the limits thought possible with the band." Secret Weapon is poised to be this summers blockbuster.
Customer Reviews:
Still Going.......2007-07-29
A long time fan, I have purchased every album, EP and recording I could get my hands on. I think Secret Weapon is a nice return to their roots, but I don't think they are going to win over legions of new fans. I think this album may bring back some of those who left when they signed with a major label and softened their sound in the search for radio hits. This album is solid all the way through. It does sure more maturity and style than their early albums. I don't hear anything that will be a hit on the radio, but I doubt they are even worried about that. This is a strong album, and if you have been away from MXPX for a while, this is a nice way to get back to the band.
Awesome Album!.......2007-07-23
This is a great pop-punk album. I love it!! Since I'm a newer MxPx fan, I didn't buy "Let's Rock" until just recently, and I was disappointed. I was sincerely hoping that "Secret Weapon" would be better...and it was!! It differs a lot from their older stuff, but I was glad for that...who wants to hear the same thing over and over again?
Could This Be The End For MxPx?.......2007-07-19
MxPx has been around for years, but the group has never gone platinum. There is a sense that Mike Herrera secretly hopes to go platinum when he sings, "Everybody wants to be a big celebrity / Everybody wants to win the lottery / From the bottom of our hearts to the top of the charts." Every band in the world thinks the future of the band is selling more records, but what people sometimes forget is sometimes the future is now. MxPx tried to make it big with A&M Records, but the band was unsuccessful in some regard because it failed to record singles that could sell records. But what that experience with A&M showed was that the band is more about albums than records and that the group continues to have a loyal fanbase. Despite not going platinum the members of MxPx have made a living making punk CDs for 15 years and that is something few bands ever accomplish.
"Secret Weapon" is the latest punk offering from Washington's favorite pop punkers. Songs like "Top of the Charts" reminisce to the days of touring with Good Charlotte and "Before Everything and After". Other tracks like "Bass so Low" remind listeners of bass riffs like "The Theme Fiasco". It seems as though we've heard this album before, but then along come fresh tracks like "You're On Fire" and "Drowning". Overall, "Secret Weapon" isn't the earthshaking album that MxPx was looking to make, but it's a solid release that the group's loyal fans will pick up and enjoy. As for whether this will be the group's last album, it's anyone's best guess.
MXPX roars back with Secret Weapon!.......2007-07-19
MXPX is back with a fast-paced punk rawk masterpiece! There is not one bad song on the record and the band members are playing better than they ever have before. It truly is their best work. From the opening of the song "Secret Weapon" to the end of "Tightly Wound," the band manages to keep each song unique and worth listening to over and over again. I have no complaints with this album at all and you won't either! So click that button on the top of this page to buy this masterpiece (or two) and get ready for the explosion of MXPX's Secret Weapon! The album of the century!
It's about time!!! Woo Hoo!!!.......2007-07-18
Thank you MXPX for finally putting out a good album. I am one of the few MXPX die hards from the old days. I stopped listening becuase the last few albums were just horrible. This new album is great. MXPX put some great effort into this album and it really shows. A MUST BUY!

There's only one word that comes immediately to mind when describing Anberlin's Never Take Friendship Personal release. The word? Amazing. This is one of those truly remarkable releases that is so refreshing, so defining, and so well done, you will feel a need to let every know about it. Much like Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown and D.C. Talk's Jesus Freak, Anberlin's second release captures the musical styles of the day but recasts them in a unique and exciting way. Much credit up front should go to producer Aaron Sprinkle, who never lets the music overshadow Steven Christian's emotive alto vocals. Joseph Milligan's guitar work is nothing short of phenomenal and propels such blistering tracks like "Paperthin Hymn," "Runaways," and "Feel Good Drag." Let's not forget the rock-steady rhythm from drummer Nathan Young and bassist Deon Rexroat that continually lays down a concrete foundation. Also worthy of note is the intelligent songwriting that prevails throughout the release, showing that Christian-based bands don't always check their brains at the studio door. Moody at times, exhilarating at others, this is a giant leap forward for a relative newcomer in Christian music. It's also a release worthy of widespread acclaim and a breath of fresh air in a genre that is sadly growing all too predictable. --Michael Lyttle
Customer Reviews:
This album is just amazing.........2007-06-12
I just got this album a few days ago, so i have yet to determine my favorite songs or even the names of songs. This cd has yet to leave my ears. When I'm driving..Never Take friendship personal..on the computer..NTFP..even at work..NTFP. I bought Cities before i bought this cd and this cd is even better than Cities..some how. This cd is incredible it mixes every single great part of rock into this cd. Extremely catchy breakdown, powerful, emotional vocals, great lyrics, and choruses and verses that are almost too addictive. There is honestly nothing to hate on this album if you like any genre of rock. There's an amazing slow rock ballad, fast-paced songs with some guitar solos..and that's just the beginning. Some songs that i remember singing in my head constantly are Paperthin Hymn, the feel good drag, a day late, and dance with... I also love the song start the revolution (i think thats what its called) Buying this cd will be the best decision you will ever make and it is worth every penny...oh yeah and see them live if your the slighest fan of anberlin..which i know you are
Solid album, one of my favorites!.......2007-03-08
I had not heard of Snow Patrol until I heard "Chasing Cars" on the radio, and I bought their cd on a whim. I must say I was not dissapointed. The only reason for 4/5 stars is that a couple of the songs seemed a little off to me. But that is only a couple of songs. You will love this album.
Absolutely stunning!.......2007-03-06
This is IMO, Anberlin's strongest album. The only average song on this album, ironically, is the title track. Every other song is stunning and single worthy.
Best CD I've ever heard..........2007-02-19
To start with, my music tastes are quite different from a ton of people out there. Most trendy music these days I find to be absolutely horrible - i.e., pop, rock, and rap. My favorite music genres are videogame soundtracks and techno/electronica, probably because they are generally free of lyrics. I also tend to like anything instrumental due to the same thing. This said, I also am a fairly large fan of classic rock, Pink Floyd, Foreigner, Journey, The Police, etc.
Now that I've conveyed my general musical interests, you have an idea of where the review is coming from. My friend made me listen to yet another band in his car one day and I sighed and said "whatever". About 20 minutes later, I wanted to know the name of the band that played "that song", which happened to be "We Dreamt in Heist" from Anberlin's first CD (Blueprints for the Black Market). I proceeded to check out the entirety of Blueprints that evening and shockingly discovered that a mainstream rock band had taken my musical tastes by storm! Anberlin's sound is so amazing, and for some reason so unique from other rock artists out there these days, and it really hit the spot.
A few weeks later, I got my hand on this CD, Never Take Friendship Personal, and at first I found myself going back to Blueprints for the Black Market. However, a few months later here I am, and I have decided this disc is my favorite not only of Anberlin's, but of any collection of music I have ever heard.
I highly recommend this CD, and in particular Dance, Dance Christa Paffgen. If at first you don't love these songs, listen a couple more times and I guarantee you'll be singing them in the shower. ;)
Great Album.......2007-02-09
I really like this cd a lot and I am looking forward to seeing them live.

MxPx Return with Solid Album.......2007-07-26
I have followed MxPx through all of their albums, and as stated previously by others, this is in some ways a return to edgier and more energetic tunes from this great band. I love that they are back on Tooth and Nail and recording with Aaron Sprinkle. Sprinkle's production is tight and the songs are well constructed, upbeat, and easy to listen to. The material is mature, and definitely up there with some of their best albums like "Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo" and "The Ever Passing Moment").
At the same time, as much as I really like this album, I did find myself wishing they had pushed themselves more beyond the standard pop-punk idioms into some more unique (and less "poppy") song structures (and less "ahh's," "hey's," and "yeaaah's"). Similarly, the production is a little too shiny at times for my taste and could benefit from rougher edges and more dynamism. Lyrically, this album is on par with their other more recent releases, reflecting hopefulness alongside angst. My only complaint lyrically is that Mike Herrera too frequently mines the band's record-label-trauma angst, as he did in the album Panic.
I purchased the special edition (with DVD), and found the "documentary" and the minimal other bonus features to be pretty lame. To give you an idea of what I mean, one of the bonus features trails the guitar tech for five minutes or so through the grocery store while he purchases spaghetti for a band meal. Um, yeah. Another feature shows Mike Herrera walking around the band's purported apartment, which shows nothing of the apartment itself. The documentary itself is basically just Mike, Tom, and Yuri in the studio hanging out doing nothing and occassionally saying a few words in an interview or recording. Pretty boring. In short, I definitely do not think the special edition is worth the extra three bucks I paid for it.
Overall, this is a strong release from MxPx that old and new fans alike will celebrate. Pick up the CD, but leave the Special Edition version on the shelf.
MxPx keeps it going.......2007-07-20
There's been a lot of hype leading up to this release, specifically about the band's return to their old style (basically, their second and third albums). In my opinion, Secret Weapon is more in line with Panic than any other of their albums. The lyrics have evolved since the days of Teenage Politics, obviously, since the band members are practically thirty. Musically, the band seems to teeter between the faster-paced rocking songs like from Life in General and the carefully crafted and lyrically poetic songs from Panic. But if you're expecting Mike to be spitting out lyrics like in "Doing Time" and "Want Ad," you'll be disappointed. He goes for a more polished delivery, even while shouting, like that of their most recent recordings. Still, their obvious effort to rock harder is apparent in many of the songs: the beginning of "Punk Rawk Celebrity" (the middle/end of the song slows down and almost had me convinced they were Green Day singing "I Don't Care" off American Idiot), "Contention" and "Chop Shop." These songs and a few others must be the reason critics have been comparing Secret Weapon to their earlier stuff, and at moments you can see parts of the songs as more polished versions of old songs, complete with BGV "hey!"s.
The three extra tracks are good. "The Hoo-Ha Jangle" fits in with the rest of the album, nothing new there. Madcap Scheme is my favorite of the three extra tracks, and if they picked up the tempo of the instruments and lyrical delivery, it would fit in just fine next to "Southbound" and "The Wonder Years." The last extra track is "Throw Your Body In The Air" which is decent, and includes a hidden bonus track that reminds me of "Yuri Wakes Up Screaming" off the Renaissance EP, since it's a joke song, but is pretty clever and entertaining.
The DVD is basically a bunch of 1-2 minute clips of "day in the life of..." stuff and provided minimal entertainment. The reason you're buying the DVD is for the behind the scenes look at how they made the album - a 25 minute feature. It's good, but not anything special. If you're a real fan, pick it up, but don't expect anything comparable to "B-Movie." I would also recommend the Let It Happen Deluxe Edition with a DVD of all of their music videos; certainly worth buying the album a second time, plus you do get three "new" recordings.
All this said, I've really enjoyed the album after getting over a bit of diappointment in my expectations. It's a testament to the group that they have been making music for 15 years together and are still able to come up with fresh material that has fans and casual listeners giving them great reviews (see non -D/DVD comments). For the price here on Amazon, it's worth the extra few bucks, especially if you're a collector.
Beyond amazing.......2007-07-18
As a long time fan of the band, of my expectations of this cd were high. Not only were they met, but in the end I felt like an idiot for even thinking I might not be amazed. This cd, as many people have stated, has brought back the MxPx that so many people love. At the same time though, it still delivers some incredibly unique songs that any long time or new to the band fan will fall in love with. I do not have one negative thing to say about this cd. Make sure you buy this special edition because, besides the awesome behind the scenes dvd, you get three extra new songs that are three of the best Mxpx songs written in close to ten years as a bonus. Enjoy!

Album Description
Here's a quick TFK refresher course. Somehow, somewhere, you know this band. The Toronto, Canada natives have sold over 200,000 copies of their previous hit album Phenomenon. Along the way, they've won several major awards in their native country and the U.S., broken through on active rock radio, shared the stage with today's leading alt-rockers (Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, The Donnas, Switchfoot, etc.) and even created the first great sports anthem of the 21st century with 2003's adrenaline-fueled hit "Rawkfist" which has been heard everywhere from sports stadiums to commercials! We are here to reassure you that it's OK to simply ROCK again. As in, straight-forward, aggressive, melodic rock'n'roll. And Thousand Foot Krutch is the band that's going to lead the way. "This is a rawk record," explains TFK frontman Trevor McNevan, who was up until the very last moment spending 15-plus hours a day in the studio with acclaimed producer Arnold Lanni (Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan, Finger Eleven) finishing the band's latest and greatest album, "The Art of Breaking."

Good Music.......2007-05-15
When I first got this cd I did not enjoy the music at all.
After a couple days though I really started to like it.
The first 3 tracks on the cd are great and Move is good also.
I highly recommend you to get this cd.
Great Album.......2007-05-12
Unlike a lot of artists out there, Thousand Foot Krutch have made sure pretty much every song on the album is worth listening to and capable of becoming a personal hit for a few weeks, even months. The songs differ enough in melody to seem new one after the other, and despite being a Chistian band, the lyrics are not preachy.
A great listen and a great band to support-definitely worth buying this one. Keep up the good work, TFK.
Great CD! Great band!.......2007-03-09
TFK is one of those great bands that I would recommend to any serious rock fan! They have great sound, great style, and their songs are danceable.
My personal favorites are Absolute, Move, Hit the Floor, Art of Breaking, and Breath You In. I keep those on the top of my iPod playlist! It's a great CD for any rock fan, and I'm loving it!
TFK's Best Release To Date.......2007-02-18
If you weren't a fan of this band in the past, do yourself a favor and check out The Art Of Breaking. It reminds me alot of Trapt's first cd, with rhythmic vocals and big hooks in every song! Their last cd was pretty tight, but i don't listen to it anymore. The Art Of Breaking blows it out of the water, and I can't imagine ever getting sick of it at this point. Word on the street is that TFK are recording new material, and if they stay in the direction of The Art Of Breaking, they've got a fan in me for life. Buy IT!!!!
Their best yet.......2007-02-02
Phenomenon is great, this one's even better! A must have for all TFK fans!

Album Description
On February 2003, Virginia Beach, Virginia introduced the world to the charming quintet collectively known as Mae. Not only was their debut album, "Destination: Beautiful" an instant success with audiences, but their live show proved their talent moved even past just writing alluring hits. Now two years of non-stop touring and collectively over 150,000 album sales later, Mae have released, "The Everglow," their widely anticipated sophomore album. Complete with both compelling and introspective lyrics along with beautifully developed musicianship, Mae prove flawlessly why they've been turning heads for years!

More than a CD.......2007-07-12
This CD is absolutely fantastic - I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone.
I haven't been listening to it long enough to write a more detailed review but yeah, it's fantastic, and yeah, you need to get it.
A Great Experience, Though Not Perfect.......2007-07-10
I'm tempted to give this album a classic rating, a title I don't hand out lightly, but I'll have to withhold given the perfect ten to "Mae: The Everglow" on the simple fact that only three songs really stand out. But the packaging, the booklet, the music itself is just so above average, that it irks me that I can't deem it a classic. Thing is, while the music is always very good, the majority of it sounds the same.
Half "The Never-ending Story", half piano-driven emo rock, this album molds to suit the listener. You want to relate to some great lyrics, you've got it. You want an intriguing, illustrated story of a young boy on a fabulous adventure, you've got it. The lyrics are poignant to both stories, both the story of the man who wrote it and the story given in the inner booklet. The booklet is illustrated and contains the lyrics as well as illustrations, made for you to follow along as the albums plays out, telling a fantastic story of self-discovery. The songs can only be truly appreciated with the booklet at hand because, like I said before, only three of them really sound different. However, with the booklet, you can read along to the lyrics and see how the pictures mingle with the songs to tell a coherent and uplifting tale.
The three songs I'm talking so much about, the cream of this crop, are "We're So Far Away", "Someone Else's Arms", and "The Sun and the Moon" with "The Ocean" getting an honorable mention. These songs are all classics and (not to demean the other tracks on the album, as they're not bad) happen to be some of the best piano-rock I've ever heard this side of Something Corporate. The vocals are pleasantly smooth, the lead singer crooning his emotional lyrics without hitting that whiney note that bands like Dashboard Confessional (who aren't bad) do. The piano and other instruments blend in perfectly with the rest of the band, sounding like it was meant to be in the band as opposed to when a piano-line sounds unwelcome and simply inserted there. Everything in this album blends well and, though I can't give it a classic, the sheer quality of the entire product compels me to give it full marks.
9/10
"Our hearts are on the Everglow.".......2007-07-04
Honestly, this kind of music doesn't quite do it for me anymore. It's completely pleasant, never irritating, has some real emotions in it, and is fairly good technically. But my tastes have shifted away from decent pop punk/emo and towards more original stuff. There's nothing wrong with The Everglow, I enjoy listening to it, it just doesn't grab my attention as much as I'd like. I like the vocalist, he has a nice voice that fits the tone of the music very well. The album has a concept behind it, and it plays out like an audio storybook that's accompanied by the drawings in the booklet.
The main problem is the lack of recognizable tracks. Only a few songs stick out from the rest of the pretty standard rock sound. It's all guitars and drums, except for the first and last songs which are more piano-focused ballads. My favorite song is "Someone Else's Arms". It's a good genre song and I love the way it enters the chorus. "Suspension" is a pretty decent single, although not terribly interesting musically. "Painless" is another standout with the picked intro, piano-driven verse, and recurring wall of sound. The title track has a really catchy chorus, and I also like "Anything" a lot. If you're into the general scene Mae inhabits, you'd probably enjoy The Everglow.
Anything..........2007-03-12
I have my favorite song in this album: "Anything". Short but very effective with nice lyrics this is the top song in this album, in my opinion. Overall, all songs are pretty good and you can listen to this album without getting bored over and over again.
Interesting to note that what they have done at the beginning and end of the album is copied by Killers.
Go ahead and buy it. You won't regret your decision.

Great CD.......2007-03-21
I love Mae, so I appreciate anything they put out. However, I think I prefer "The Everglow" a bit more than this album. But with that said, "Embers and Envelopes" makes me smile and sing along each time it pops up in my play list.
Every emo band is the flippin same........2006-12-12
So I WILL say that Mae is my favorite band and they're not the same. This has been in my top 10 most played list on my iPod for over 2 years now. They are far more musically tight than any other "emo" band I've heard. And I've heard a few. I would buy this CD twice, I loved it so much. I'm definitely not emo--even remotely, but Mae takes the cake. Combining matters of life with matters of love, their lyrics are simple, yet deep.
If this band makes you feel depressed, get a prescription for Prozac, buy some clothes with colours and get some exercise. Flip.
Destination: Beautiful... wow!.......2006-08-02
I came across Mae some months ago as I was searching for new bands to listen to here in Amazon, and I've read a lot of positive feedbacks regarding the band so I quickly wrote them under my list of bands I wanted to check out (and I also saw that their cd cover was really nice... I admit it was one of the reasons why I was drawn to this cd). Fortunately, my friend had a cd of their album, Destination: Beautiful and I got so excited that I listened to it right away.
After hearing some of the tracks, I quickly understood why this cd has collected a lot of high ratings from people. Mae's songs are lyrically (for me, there is a certain magic to their words) and musically (the notes and words fit just right, and the music captures the essence of the lyrics) beautiful. The vocals are also soothing as it will make you think and daydream of good things. The lyrics are catchy (although I don't really know their songs word per word) in the sense that you'd easily remember them because of their catchy tones. It won't be long until you find yourself alone singing to their tunes. It won't be long until you find yourself alone just wanting to hear their songs, or a part of their song. Their songs will really leave you wanting to hear them again and again.
Some songs that I really find nice in this album are All Deliberate Speed, Summertime, Giving it Away, and my favorite, Sun. I find all of their songs nice... some just stand out. If you're looking for cd's to check out, put Mae's Destination: Beautiful in your list now!
Breath of Fresh Air.......2006-06-11
Honestly, when I first picked up this cd I liked rwo songs on it: "Embers and Envelopes" and "All Deliberate Speed". The rest were just boring. But one day it just clicked. Now I think this cd is wonderful. The songs just have a clean and crisp sound that remind you of spring weather. The singer's voice is soft and easy to listen to. Nicely written lyrics, too. I recommend this!
Stand out tracks:
Embers and Envelopes
All Deliberate Speed
Last Call
Goodbye Goodnight
Another album-on-a-whim gone right........2006-05-24
The first time through I found "Destination: Beautiful" an unremarkable album with catchy pop hooks, but not much more; the second time through, it blew me away. While Mae will never be entered into the annals of innovative pop/rock, their first effort is innocent, earnest and optimistic. From the sincere and wistful "All Deliberate Speed" to the sugary but lovable "Soundtrack for Our Movie," Mae provides music that maintains interest and just generally feels good. Easily one of the albums that would make the soundtrack of my life.

"Extremely catchy" by BJ.......2007-03-29
As soon as I heard Hawk Nelson at the 2007 Winter Jam Tour in Mobile, AL, I knew I just HAD to get one of their CDs. A couple days later my dad picked up "Smile, It's The End of the World" for me, and since then my sister and I have been blasting this CD on her stereo almost daily! Every song is extremely catchy, especially "Everything You Ever Wanted", "Zero", and "Head On Collision". At times the band could start to "scream" instead of "sing", and some of the songs sound almost non-Christian, but the album is still better than average. When I say that some of the songs are almost "non-Christian", I mean that they turn into almost "love" songs. Also, this album ISN'T for adults or young children--I think only teens will enjoy this one.
However, all in all this CD is still one of my favorites--and Hawk Nelson seems like Stellar Kart's twin!!
Not the End of the World for This Band..........2007-02-26
From the first time I heard "Every Little Thing" from Hawk Nelson's first CD, I have loved this band. Fortunately and unfortunately, they have greatly matured from their first album to create Smile, It's the End of the World. While traces of their old style remain, this album sounds much different than their last one. While it is still as "unfocused" as their past work, this album is on a different side of the pop/rock spectrum. Fans of the old record might be appalled by the change of style, as was I, but will most likely be quickly converted. Every song has something to offer. Some are happy and poppy, others edgier, and some even throw in a little Gospel flare.
Overall, this is a CD that does what it does right. No matter the atmosphere of the song, it is communicated effectively, and ultimately catchy. No one who enjoys this genre should miss out on this one.
It's OK.......2007-02-02
This album has a light, fun sounding feel to it. It is intended to appeal to teenagers and seems to have a sound that they like.
It is rather meaningless lyrically. It is full of fluff and little meaningful content. Hawk Nelson is purported to be a Christian band, but I heard nothing in this album that would validate that. Some of the songs are boy-girl love songs. Some others are hard to tell what they are even about - mainly nonsense.
In spite of the fairly trivial nature of the lyrics, there is nothing offensive about them. This is not an album that parents would need to worry about being a bad influence on kids.
There is one song that sounds pretty good: 'Everything You Ever Wanted'. A couple of others are kind of catchy.
Overall, it is an ok album. It is not one that I particularly enjoy, but I'm sure it has some appeal for its intended audience.
Not really a kid, i just dont wanna get an acount....well actaully im 15 but..........2007-01-19
ok, whoever said that fall out boy is a poser band, you should do some research before you say something like that. Just so you know, they had THREE albums out before they got popular, and, ever think that maybe people listend to them when they "sucked"?? Just because the band got popular DOES NOT mean that they are posers, are people who were listening to them before From Under The Cork Tree, are gonna listen to Good Charlotte.. and why does it matter if someone likes Good Charlotte, or some other "poser"?? Oh, and i happen to know for an absolute fact that fall out boy is not in it for the money, although i know that they enjoy the money(Who wouldnt). Trust me, i KNOW that. Anyways, i really like this cd. There right up there with Panic! At The Disco and Cobra Starship in my favourites. I really like Bring Em Out. Oh, and one more thing: if you dont like a band, dont bash them in front of people you know love them. It's not a good idea =) BUY THIS CD!!!!!
