A little too edgy to be considered pop metal, Tesla were probably the least pretentious band of the genre. On Psychotic Supper, they focus on understated, bluesy hard rock, with an occasional acoustic guitar thrown in for variety. The result is well worth a listen, and this album contains some of their best material, including the anthemic "Edison's Medicine" and the no-bull "Call It What You Want." "What You Give" is a lovely, tender alternative to the syrupy power ballads that so many hard rock bands indulged in during the late '80s and early '90s. "Song & Emotion," another slow song, is a tribute to the late Steve Clark of Def Leppard. Tesla's favorite themes are evident on songs like "Change in the Weather," "Don't De-Rock Me," and "Freedom Slaves," but "Toke About It" shows that they also retained their sense of humor. --Genevieve Williams

4 out of 5 stars Call it what you want..........2007-03-01

I call it pretty terrific! I was only five years old when Psychotic Supper was first released, but a couple years ago I stumbled upon Tesla's caught in a dream from their album Into the Now. I was intrigued and decided to learn more about them. So I picked up Psychotic Supper... it was a good decision! Change in the weather, the opener, is fun, energetic and a great way to kick off the album. I love it! Edison's medicine, Don't de-rock me and Call it what you want are all catchy rock tunes as well. Song and Emotion is (in my opinion) one of the sadder but more heartfelt songs, it starts off sort of soft but gets heavier. Definitely one of my favorites. Now the reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because the next few tracks, while all worthy for some reason just don't seem to hold my attention as much as the songs at the beginning and end of the album. What you give is another one I adore! A song most can relate to. Stir it up is superb too. Toke about it is enjoyable and lighthearted, it closes the album on a similar note as it beagn. So if you are interested at all you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TESLA'S MASTERPEICE.......2006-01-15

This is hands down one of the best Rock and Roll albums of all time. This is Tesla's masterpeice. Song and Emotion is Tesla's stairway. If you are a fan of Tesla or of pure no frills Rock-n-Roll buy this album now.

5 out of 5 stars Underrated.......2005-01-23

Not quite as perfect as the first two albums, but still 5 star material. Tesla was one of those bands that got lumped into hair metal but shouldn't have.

Edison's Medicine might be one of my favorite songs by them, if not the favorite. I never understood why they never played this one live. At least not the times I saw them after the release of this album or on the live album. It was released as a single, rocks out pretty hard, and the song embodies the name and spirit of the band. Tesla, no machines, anti-marconi. Whatever that was they used to push. Would have been great to hear this one live.

4 out of 5 stars Tesla Rocks!!.....Always Have.....Always Will.....Nuff Said.......2003-12-13

With another great release "Psycotic Supper", there is no longer any question. Tesla Rocks!!!...They always have, and they always will. That's all there is to it....

This isn't my favorite Tesla, that honor would go to the previous "Mechanical Resonance" and "The Great Radio Controversy" releases. I think those two are their greatest. Nonetheless, "Psycotic Supper" cranks out some of the coolest, hardest rocking songs you'll hear. You can't go wrong with Tesla.

5 out of 5 stars Tesla Fan to the End!!!.......2003-04-20

This band is as interesting and talented as the mechanical genius from which they took their name sake. Not only do they praise Nikoli Tesla in the song "Edisons Medicine" but they praise him on every album in order to keep his spirit alive. I love this band because they write songs from the heart in which anyone who has a heart can relate to. Weather they are bashing big government or praising the not so forgotten man of science, every song is a winner in my book. Collect all of Tesla's albums and I'm sure you will still be listening to them in your 80's!
