Reign in Blood
Reign in Blood
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This 28-minute slab of noise ranks among the most aggressive, brutal, and bone-crushingly intense major label releases ever. After opening with the highly controversial blur-of-volume "Angel of Death," which tells of the grisly exploits of sadistic Nazi doctor Joseph Mengele, the album confronts Satanic rituals ("Altar of Sacrifice"), serial killing "Piece by Piece," and the apocalypse ("Raining Blood"), before ending abruptly with the sounds of falling rain (assumedly blood). But the band doesn't thrive on shock value alone. Reign in Blood is packed with stop-on-a-dime tempo shifts, complex guitar riffs and daunting rhythms that verify that Slayer are skilled musicians as well as twisted human beings. --Jon Wiederhorn

No one has bettered the ferocity, pace, and brutal power of this 28-minute 10-song set. Guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King fire out of the gate with the infamous "Angel of Death" and don't take a respite until the fifth cut, "Jesus Saves." And that breather lasts all of 30 seconds. Winding like a mutant Paganini piece, "Postmortem"'s hook is so inescapable that even metal neophytes will find it irresistible. Superbly sequenced and wonderfully executed, this favorite of producer Rick Rubin stands as the most extreme album in thrash-metal history. --Steffan Chirazi

BEST SLAYER CD !!.......2007-06-20
IF YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A METAL HEAD THEN YOU PRABABLY ALREADY HAVE THIS CD, IF NOT GO BUY IT NOW.This album is more or less 30 minutes but it is worth every seconds.Sure the production is not up to date (the album is
20 years old!!) but even today i think this album is the most angriest heaviest metal album of all time.
You Either Like Slayer or You Don't, it's that simple.......2007-05-23
Personally, I would say this and "Seasons" are their best albums. "Seasons" I think one argue is more "musical", whatever that means. If you're a young person I can see how this album may sound dated, but you must realize this album was highly influential to many bands to come, in many different genres. However, there is only one thing I'd like to comment on, which disturbs me reading some of the negative reviews, the lyrics.
First, I don't think Slayer lyrics are meant to be taken too seriously. I never did when I was a kid, I sure as hell don't now as an adult; you want social commentary, listen to a Dylan record; somewhat abstract introspective, put on some Floyd. And this isn't a knock on those two artists, I like them both-different music for different moods.
Now, the whole Nazi, Mendel thing some people have a problem with, all I have to say is this: who the hell are you to say what is taboo and what someone can or can't write about? This stuff did happen, didn't it? There have been some groups throughout our history that burned books, censored what people could say, actually, you know one group that was really famous for this... NAZIS!
If you don't like it, don't buy it or listen to it. But NEVER demand what someone can or can't say!

Being sort of casual Slayer fan, this is the second of thiers,I have purchased.Seasons In The Abyss, being my first. They are fast becoming one of fave bands. The music is so raw and has great energy. Really from beginning to end, this one rocks!!!! Angel of Death and Raining In Blood, the ones I was most familiar with. But after hearing the whole thing,I can add a few more greats to fave list. That being,Piece By Piece,Jesus Saves,Criminally Insane,Reborn and Postmortem.Boy,what I have missed.A 1986 album and for twenty plus years, what I have missed. If you are a die hard, you,of course, know the album. If you are a growing diehard like me,check this one out now!!!! It will totally kick in your cd player.Go scare your neighbors with the Gods of Thrash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW,I was lucky enough to buy at $13.99 for this import.

Kick Ass Live Performances!!!!.......2005-11-12
An essential album for Fenix TX fans. Fenix TX's high energy is brought to life on stage. Awesome versions of classic songs like "Pheobe Cates," "Tear Jerker" and "Threesome." Fenix TX's covers of CCR's "Fortunate Son" and Bowie's "Major Tom" are a rare treat. Highly suggested! Fenix TX fans and fans of the pop-punk genre will be stoked!

Slayer Slays.......2006-07-29
This is what thrash metal is all about. There are a lot of fan favorites on here that are still performed live to this day. Angel of Death is perhaps one of Slayer's most infamous and brutal tunes. Note how they do not condone nor condemn the Nazi madman. They are like reporters, they just tell it like it is (or how it was). Yes Slayer is a dark musical journey and you have to take it with a grain of salt. I don't believe that Slayer are devil worshippers, nor do I believe they are influnenced by demons as a fellow reviewer stated. They are just being Slayer. They right fast agressive thrash and their 'gimmick' is evil. Pure and simple.
Reign in Blood ranks as one of the finest and most influential thrash/speed metal albums of all time.
Soundblaster.......2006-05-05
I don't respond about lyrics,
but that soundbarrier is enormous.
Listen to loud, but only once a month.
Burn In Hell?.......2005-05-26
Satan can do many things in this worls for exemple help metal bands to compose songs and write lyrics. Slayer is band controlled by dark forces. Only Jesus can save them from eternal destruction.
This cd is music from hell which is not surprise because demons has really helped these guys!
Whoa...didn't know it was possible to be this heavy..........2005-03-28
This album is by far one of the heaviest of all time, and Slayer's best. By the way, Angel of Death is about Auschwitz, not Satan. I mean the first word of the song (besides the scream) is Auschwitz. In any case, the only reason I give it a four instead of five is because I sometimes feel like skipping the middle tracks to get to Raining Blood. The tracks in between are good, especially Jesus Saves and Criminally Insane. I almost gave it a five, but it just has to be perfect for me to give it that. Anyone interested in metal should pick this one up, it's necessary to further your metalheadness.
yep.......2003-10-08
what can i say, hands down best thrash metal cd of all time... period.
oh, and its in alter of sacrifice when he says enter to the relm of satan buddy... learn the song titles before you go reviewing the cd.

Product Description
Erik Hinds of Athens, Georgia is active as a composer, performer, and promoter of a wide range of music. He plays quartertone electric guitar and the H'arpeggione, an upright acoustic instrument with 12 sympathetic strings. Erik focuses on the raw sound of his strings in all their microtonal glory; his style blends primitive folk, heavy metal, and sacred musics from around the world into a distinct voice. A solo acoustic cover of Slayer's classic Reign In Blood, this project began a while back as a wink-wink challenge by a good friend. Translating this to a solo acoustic instrument, the H'arpeggione, without the benefit of lyrics, meant the music would have to take on its own character. What resulted draws from Hinds background as a free improviser, and an attempt to highlight the contours of the original without imposing anything not suggested by Slayer themselves. Hinds take liberty with tempo, dynamics, color, key, and other attributes only to honor the! initial spark that gave life to their brilliant collection of controlled entropy.
Customer Reviews:
acoustic folk metal .?........2006-01-26
i picked this album up despite the fact that i am not a slayer fan.. i am however a fan of solo acoustic music as well as a fan of thought provoking artistic innovation.. the idea of an acoustic cover of a rock or metal song is not new of course.. many pay hommage to those who have come before.. the best of these seems to be the ones that are reactionary but also expansive.. taking their own path from the material already structured.. sensitivity is essential to compliment a creation.. respect is beautiful but when you can actually add to the initial equation it then becomes a piece of art in itself.. not only to compliment its origin but also to stand on its own.. erik hind.s album is a sensitive and rich piece of music that bows as well as rises up..
(i would love to hear more occuring in this hybrid genre)
