It's a bit surprising that Pantera waited until 1997 to release a live album, considering how brutal and powerful the band had been in concert. At an average Pantera show, it would not be unusual to see security evicting overzealous fans, and club bathrooms filled with bloody wads of paper towels from mosh pit injuries. Official Live 101 Proof captures the group in its natural, violent element, combining abrupt, barbed riffs with pulse-pounding beats and furious vocals. The record spans Pantera's career, from the classic guitar lick of "Cowboys from Hell" to the fuzzbomb fury of "Suicide Note Pt. 2" (from album The Great Southern Trendkill). As an encore, the band offers album buyers two new studio tracks, the bluesy bonecrusher "Where You Come From" and the grinding piledriver "I Can't Hide." As the fortress of alternative rock continues to crumble, Pantera stomp vindictively through the rubble, their metallic legacy intact. --Jon Wiederhorn

Customer Reviews:
Pantera Live CD.......2007-01-27
The CD has a very good list of songs from Pantera's repertoire. However the recording quality leaves something to be desired. I've purchased live albums from other bands that sounded almost as good as the original recordings. I've only listened to the CD in my car stereo, but had to do adjustments on the Bass, Treble and Mid-range to get a decent sound.
Good for a live album.......2007-01-22
The production is very good--better than a lot of live albums. OL has a lot of the "classic" Pantera tracks and really is a kind of "best-of" collection. There are a coulple of new studio tracks as well, although they're kind of weak. Pantera's material really began falling-off after Far Beyond Driven and it shows on this collection.
This is an especially good buy if you're new to Pantera and don't want to buy all the individual discs.
My favorite pantera album out of all of them.......2006-03-15
The Anti-Pantera crowd seems to be posting just to post, screaming for some desperate attention that they dont get in their lonely teenage lives...What's even better is hearing then yak on and on about how Dime couldnt play his guitar....these are the people who have never picked up a guitar, or if they did, it was briefly...Anyway, this is my favorite Pantera album. It captures what the show must have been like and the pure energy of a Pantera concert, it also captures one of the best metal guitar players in action. If you like good heavy metal, pick this album up
Pantera live has room for improvement.......2006-02-25
official live 101 proof from what I remember about it and its been awhile since I have heard it(even tho I own it), is not one of the greatest live metal albums of all time. although it is good it could stand for improvements especialy in the sound quality.
one thing that really ticks me off about live albums from any band in any genre of music is the sound quality. some bands you cant really hear them playing the music so much as you can hear the crowd and background noise kinda muffling the music making for poor audio sound.
I have three live albums which are better in sound quality than official live. AC/DC's live album, Slipknots live album 9.0, and a live album from my city that KISS did on there rock the nation tour in 2004 when they recorded there live shows during that tour and gave each city a the recording of the concert they had just been too! In these three live cd's, the music sound quality is near studio sound quality. you can hear the crowd but the crowd and unwanted background noise is not drowning out the music. kinda like if you were to take a tape recorder to the show and record the whole concert. youd probably end up with a tape of which the crowd and background noise outdrained the bands music.
while Official live: 101 proof is still an awesome live album, I do hope someday the surviving members of Pantera reissue it and enhance the sound quality. Pantera are some of the heaviest of metal of its generation, even at times beating the likes of MetallicA and Megadeth as far as heavy goes.
so for those that just want a live metal album that they can pop in at home and listen too, this album is definetly worth it! but if your looking to get this because it's like a "best of" cd and features tunes not found on the "best of" cd or you just want a live album, of which you can pop in your car and cruise too and all that like I do, then this is not that live album and I would recommend sticking to the studio albums or if you dont want that many cd's hanging around your car for fear of them getting stolen or whatever, then buy Pantera's greatest hits or just burn your own cd of studio songs you like! I guess if I took the time to listen to this cd again it may gain 4 stars but because of the poor sound quality I remember it being, I can give it no more than 4 stars.
Grave Violater is a fag!.......2006-02-19
Frist off, idf you want to read a great review for this live album, read my friend A. Stutheit's.
Second, GV, you say what you said, and call yourself a human being? Die you scumbbag! Maybe ou'll like Pantera after Oderus Urungus rams his scaly c**k up your ass, that is if you can stop 0rg@sming for 5 seconds.
