Kick Butt!.......2007-07-24
I had this on tape for too many years. It is nice to finally get it on Disc. If you never heard this album, then you really need to get it. This is the best of it's time. You won't be disappointed.
This album OWNS!!.......2007-05-26
Not sure what else to say, amazing thrash album, LISTEN TO IT!!
Metal Church's Greatest ...............Near Perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-27
After three years and two member changes Metal Church returns with their greatest and most inspirational album. This is their peak as a thrash band with wonderful arrangements and musicianship. With 'Blessing In Disguise' Metal Church leaves most of their peers in the dust. Each song is executed with precision and with a new vocalist at the helm (Mike Howe)the band seems to fit much better together. The debut was good, 'The Dark' was a step above but 'Blessing' is a masterpiece. Hands down one of the top metal albums of the 80's. Great lyrics with awesome guitar work not to metion tight drumming. With 'Blessing In Disguise' you get the whole package............but..... there is one downside, the mix of the album is lacking. The instruments sound clear but the volume is so low you really have to make your sound system work for it. But in the end even the mix can't darken the brightness of Metal Church's 1989 opus 'Blessing In Disguise'.
obra maestra.......2005-08-04
El mejor albun de la banda norte americana con muy buenas letras y unos arreglos de guitarras majistrales. Un disco muy recomendado
The Best Metal Church album EVER!!!.......2005-05-22
This is by far more superior than even their 2nd best(Self-Titled), however I really wish the mastering process was better. The production was excellent as it was done by veteran Terry Date(Overkill; Pantera)who established himself as a powerhouse producer. But the sonic levels in the mastering could be brought up a few notches to at least match the sound quality of their debut. This being considered their best album, one has to wonder how come it took David Wayne & Kurdt Vanderhoof to leave this band to make such a great album? Mike Howe is my favorite MC vocalist and it's a damn shame he didn't return for "Weight of the World"
That's all as there are alot of other reviews discussing the lyrical content and length of songs, so I won't bore you with those details.
I gave it 4 stars because of the weak mastering process

A Blessing indeed...........2006-03-04
GREEN CARNATION - A Blessing in Disguise
-
The general consensus with Green Carnation is that every album is different from its predecessor yet still as appealing as the last. Tchort had come off his masterpiece `Light of Day, Day of Darkness' a 60:00 minute, one track album and then released this amazing Prog Rock album with 9 well crafted tracks many of which have generous helpings of Metal. (Songs like, Crushed to Dust have such a nice heavy edged guitar and pounding rhythms.)
Being relatively new to Green Carnation I would best describe them as being similar to Amorphis, for they also started as a Metal band and changed direction to a more commercial progressive rock sound. Like Amorphis though this was the farthest thing from selling out, it was just simply a change of direction if anything the music only improved over the years... Personally I'd much rather see a band go prog then pull a `metallica'.
The musicianship is outstanding Vocals, Bass, Guitars and Drumming are all done very well... I especially enjoy much of the guitar work and harmonizing between Tchort and Harstad. It sounds great when 2 guitarist utilize different parts but play them in complete cohesion. Also I should point out Kjetil Nordus vocal work is also extra impressive... Truthfully, based on his vocals alone, I'm surprised these guys haven't been more exploited by the mainstream.
As far as the music / song writing goes it really does vary song to song... All the tracks have a great drive and there is not a bad song on the album.
Favorite Songs: As Life Flows By, Lullaby in the Winter, and Two Seconds to Life,

Light of Day, Who of What? This album owns........2005-09-18
Those expecting a sequel to 2001's monumental "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" were surprised to say the least. Tchort and company took their uncanny songwriting abilities in a somewhat different direction, crafting an album with separate songs (a definite change from "LoD,DoD"s 60-minute track) and only incorporating movements or echoes from their previous effort.
Having said that, "A Blessing in Disguise" is equal parts hard-rocking and beautiful. The opening song, "Crushed to Dust" says everything in the title. Both catchy and aggressive, the song starts the album off on a very positive note, giving the listener a hefty taste of guitar-crunch and twangy keyboards. From the very start it is apparent that Tchort has left his northern, forest home and embraced the life of a modern-day headbanger. There is even a part of the song (beginning at 3:07) that sounds shockingly like something you'd find in Metallica's "ReLoad" (but no worries - it lasts for only about 15 seconds).
So, let's breathe for a moment now. "Lullaby in Winter" - again, a song whose title perfectly describes its sound. It begins with clean guitars and a march-like snare drum, leading into Kjetil Nordhus' delicate and vulnerable voice. "Writings on the Wall" showcases Green Carnation's razor-sharp guitar-work, and "Into Deep" closely resembles "LoD,DoD"s epic sound, combining strings with particularly hurtful vocal passages.
The beauty of the album is that no two songs are alike. Unlike "LoD,DoD"s segues that would often get mistaken for repeated riffs, "A Blessing in Disguise" is composed of absolutely unique songs that stand alone perfectly. In fact, if I were to give each song a rating, only two songs would fall short of `excellent', namely the excessively melancholic "Two Seconds in Life", and the somewhat lackluster closing track, "Rain". Besides these less-than-stellar pieces, the album is a true accomplishment for a daring and courageous band. Progression, indeed.

Different, impressive.......2005-01-05
I can't believe the comparisons people make. Someone said it can pass as Godsmack!!!! Come on I'd rather compare GC to Opeth or Anathema. You may not like it but at least think a little bit before you review. Godsmack?? oh man. Please God don't let someone say this is nu-metal.
Astounding........2004-08-17
You can't really expect Green Carnation to come out trying to top "Light of Day, Day of Darkness", because, quite frankly, there isn't a chance in hell they--I should say he: Tchort--can do it, which is why I was thrilled that they/he didn't try to. This album is great in and of itself. It's melancholic; it's uplifting; it's soft; it's hard; it's a great mixture of sounds. This isn't an album for everyone, but it would be enjoyed by many, many people out there.
Fantastic follow up to LODDOD.......2004-06-25
Wow.
After Light of Day, Day of Darkness, Green Carnation ups the ante, making a CD where one can access all that made LODDOD fantastic. Crushed to Dust harkens back to the heavy riffs of the past CD, but at the same type creating a different sound. Lullaby is a ballad, but I cannot find another ballad that even comes close to the structure of this fantastic highlight. The next two songs are classic Green Carnation, one with a crazy opening riff, while the other with a more subtle, more brood beginning. The Boy in the Attic has some amazing vocal melodies and layering, showing off the various different parts of the band. Great variation. Two Seconds in the Life has a memorable slow start that builds to an emotional guitar solo, much like the second half of LODDOD. Myron and Cole is a unique rocker with a different Mid-Eastern vibe. Multiple memorable melodies. As Life Flows By has the best lyrics on the album, avoiding much of the early more somber tone, and the intro is a hook laden guitar opening with some nice keyboardwork. Its still a sad song, yet easier to relate to, as the emotion feels more genuine here. Overall one of my favorites. Rain is different compared to almost every metal song I have ever heard. Haven't closely listened to the song yet, but it definitely takes the cake as their most progressive short song.
My only minor complaints are the drastic change in cover design, and some of the more depressed lyrics in the thrird and fourth track, which are hard for me to relate to. The inside of the booklet still has the amazing landscapes though, so it maintains a tradition set by the band.
Clean Vocals by the way, fantastic performance, for all who like edgy, somber metal.

Customer Reviews:
Annie goes down the elevator.......2003-08-04
This was one of the biggest disappointments in my music buying history. The first track is acapella which proves she can sing, but we already knew that; can we have some real rock music please! Without rock influences around her Annie drifted into some kind of new age lounge act. It sounds like elevator music. There are about 3 songs I liked which is why I gave it 2 stars.I have never been able to listen to the whole CD in one sitting since I bought it. The word Renaissance on the cover is misleading. That is not what you will get here.
Blessed Be.......2002-12-08
Annie has always had an angelic voice,is still fabulous, but who are the other members of this "Renaissance"(it is actually credited to Annie Haslam's Renaissance, not as a pure solo effort. While her voice soars,is soothing and this makes for a great meditational piece of music, the musical backing lacks what vintage Renaissance had(chops I guess are out of style). This is more new agey than prog, which is good and bad (for old Renaissance fans). She was never a writer;I don't think she plays any instruments, and I don't see any songwriting credit on this (my copy is a promo). So, who is really behind all this ?
Very nice work.......2001-09-01
Having been very UNimpressed with Annie's second solo album released in 1989, I was pleasantly surprised by this third offering. Her voice, of course, is as perfect as ever and the songs are more varied and better arranged than previous albums. Best songs: Blessing in Disguise; Love Lies, Love Dies; A New Life.
A real blessing.........2000-03-03
Having known and loved Renaissance's music for quite some time, I was uncertain what to expect from Annie on her own. I shouldn't have worried. Beauty, feeling, her amazing voice, everything is still there. The music is a little less classical/folk-influenced and more diverse. "Love Lies Love Dies" annoys me a little.. probably because the word "love" pops up in almost every line. The same is true of "A New Life" - possibly the most cliched song Annie has ever done. But these are minor complaints. When you're in the right mood, this music is simply perfect.
A superb album by a sublime voice........2000-01-28
Her range and beauty of tone is unrivalled. A major talent that should be releasing MORE albums. Any collection from Renaissance to this solo album clearly showcases her amazing abilities and achievements. We all would love to hear this gorgeous voice more often.

Bio:
Chris & Aurore are a band from Boston Massachusetts who The Boston Globe calls Passionate folk rock in a style reminiscent of Bob Dylan and Peter, Paul, and Mary" Chris & Aurore combine the sincere and thought provoking words and sounds of folk music with the energy and edge of rock n' roll. They have self-released two EP's, 2005's "To Never Again", and 2006's "Blessing In Disguise". Both releases have been met with raved reviews from newspapers and magazines all across the country. The Nashville Scene wrote, Their lyrics spin dark contemporary tales spiked with surreal imagery. It's a jarring and effective contrast to their otherwise easygoing sound." Urban Folk Magazine In New York City wrote, "Thoughtful and artistic lyrics combined with strong acoustic melodies are what warrant these songs as true folk, organic music with a strong message that could ring true in any time or place." Chris & Aurore have completed 3 self-booked/self-promoted U.S. tours in support of their releases, and could be seen this year showcasing at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX. Watch out for their new release Fever Cureless Cold" (Coming in July '06) and for Chris & Aurore coming to a town near you.

Album Description
FIRE PRINCE: BLESSING IN DISGUISE is passion with a purpose. Fifteen fresh, original new rock songs capture the artist's raw, sensual vocal and writing style. Variations on a love song theme speak directly to your heart. If you like highly polished, overly produced works; then these unvarnished pieces may not match your current furniture. But, whatever the case, your heart will feel alive.
BLESSING IN DISGUISE is dedicated to surfer Bethany Hamilton for sharing her faith, inspiration, and courage with the world. The title track was written for Bethany, following the October 31, 2004 shark attack on Kauai's north shore. And, Bethany is singing background vocals with Fire Prince on the track!
Heroes, Saints, and Angels, a poignant tribute to the men and women of the U.S. military and their families, features Bethany Hamilton reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Soul Companion, the track currently being featured on Rock radio, paints acoustic watercolors of that special someone you know, or will someday find.
BLESSING IN DISGUISE also includes a 12 page, full color insert, containing Jimmy Irons Kauai surf art and all song lyrics! Check it out today!
Customer Reviews:

Wonderful artist.......2005-01-09
This CD captures a wonderful folk music tradition often overlooked by the world music industry. Oswin is a wonderful singer and musician, and the songs are fantastic. He is a real talent, and any fan of world music would love this disc.
Curacao Troubadour.......2004-11-01
Oswin "Chin" Behilia is verifiably an authentic "troubadour" of Curacao music and cultural expression. Chin's music has for years been identified as having a high level of production and engineering values , thereby beautifully presenting the songs and lyrics in clear, crisp and finely mastered style.
Some of his songs are also "classics" of the Curacao music scene.
You will not be dis-appointed in any of Chin Behilia's records.
