Amazing stuff from helloween.......2007-06-19
These songs had very good catchy melody metal like steel tormentor had a nice speed riffs power was an awesome song with speed riffs too. My favorite was a million to one andi can sing like no other metal vocalist can. To me this is the metal that will live on forever and the albums like this shown me what metal is all about and guided me to the right taste of my own music helloween rules!
Time of the Oath.......2005-08-02
Running solidly in the vein of the Keeper tradition, Time of the Oath is a very dark, heavy, and fast album set around the premise of the end of mankind (cheery, huh?). From the blazing opener We Burn to the closing title track Time of the Oath, this CD delivers throughout. Some listeners might be startled by the tracks Forever and One, If I Knew, and Anything My Mamma Don't Like, but these fillers are backed by strong tunes like the thunderous Steel Tormentor, the lively Power, the blistering Before the War, the galloping Kings Will be Kings, and the epic Mission Motherland. This is another great album from some truly great musicians. Definitely a Keeper!
TRYING TO IMPROVE ..........1999-09-07
WIth new singer Andy Deris now completely integrated in the band, Helloween tries once more to stablish themselves as a real good rock band. But they are not suceeding, I'll tell you. THis CD has good songs ("Power" is pure energy, the slow ones are good, also), but it seems Helloween turned themselves definitely into one of a lot of bands that are bravely doing what is necessary to survive in the hostile environment we have, nowadays, towards heavy music. (at least in the great markets). But, anyway you look at it, their creativity was gone after the two "Keeper of the Seven Keys" albuns, or: when Kai Hansen left the band.
Has Some Good Elements, But Average Overall.......1999-07-15
This album has some good elements. I find it to be on the same level as Better than Raw. Better than Raw is a little better than this album though. Everything seems to be here except for lasting power. These are songs that don't really have much longevity or staying power. Michael Kiske is sorely missed. I'm afraid to say that without him, Helloween just comes off different. Of course the musicianship and production on this album is good, it's just the fact that the songwriting could've been a little better. The songs are just too ordinary. Has ambition, but still an average album. Get Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II (that's their best).
The best Helloween Album.......1999-06-19
I don't know why everybody badmouth this album! I heard all of Helloween's albums and I must say that this one is the best! Andi Deris is better than Kiske could ever be and his amazing vocal work on "Forever and One" says it all! "Mission Motherland" made me fall on my back with it's massive guitar riffs in the middle of the song. The album covers every style from fast paced heavy metal to slow melodic harmonies. "We Burn", "Steel Tormentor", "Befor The War" and "Kings Will be Kings" are the fastest ones. Again, this one is the best!

Cool Concept focused around Nostradamus.......2006-06-14
This album was brought out my second year in college, and it is what inspired me to truely start collecting Helloween albums. This was the first hints of what darkness helloween could brew up if they put their mind to it. Somewhat darker, and more grinding loud than previous albums, Oath stormed into stores with blistering tracks like Wake Up The Mountain and, Before the War, and We Burn (the blistering lead off track which sets a killer pace for the rest of the album). This album screams see us live, we'll blow the roof off the house (see High Live).
Now as for the 2006 Edition, This is excellent to have, cause the bonus track are very well put together and a necessary to any collection. Still I Don't Know has an awsome intro, and Take it To the Limit has a cool sound all of it's own (great melody). And of course, electric eye, yes, priest re-done well, a fitting tribute. All of the other tracks are just incredible as well, adding basically a new album to one that was already excellent. I already own two version of this Particular album (CD and Cassette), and I still felt the need to buy this re-master, because the bonus disc is worth it. Also the new album/liner notes continue the biography/interviews of the other re-masters. Money well spent.

Back to the Future .... for a low four stars.......2006-06-29
The Time of the Oath is one of those lost mid 90's Helloween albums where the band were chronically unfashionable and retreating musically. This was due to the dwindling of their original fanbase which left in droves after not really appreciating the bands attemps to move in new directions with the album Chameleon and also by the fact that the US market had not picked up on the band at all, meaning their albums were starting to appear only as imports. All of which meant that it made good sense to retreat back to the sort of high speed heroic metal of their earlier years.
And here it is, an album full of semi gothic touches like discussion of the various prophecies of Nostradamus and indeed, suitably gothic cover art as well. Luckily for Helloween the line up for this album of Grapow + Weikath (G's), Uli Kusch (D) and lead throat Andre Deris were eminently suitable to pulling off a total headbang here.
The album kicks off with two of the greatest stompers in the Helloween canon with We Burn and Steel Tormenter which are two tunes guaranteed to add some speed to your car as your foot inexorably pushed down harder and harder on the accelerator as you barrel down the highway. Andre Deris has put his stamp all over this album by penning a bunch of the tunes and once again Weikath is happy to have his bandmates shoulder much of the songwriting. He may be in charge, but he knows when one of his guys have written a top notch rockers. The variety of Chameleon is of course a distant memory, but the album does have enough variance between it's fast paced burners and it's mid paced cruisers such as Before the War and A Million to One.
The humour makes an appearance with Anything My Mama Don't Like while the tunes Mission Motherland shows what everyone already knew - that sometimes Helloween do truly suck.
Not a massively awesome release but certainly a solid team effort by all concerned to produce an album with hooks and heft and the band have again worked with long time producer Tommy Hansen who knows how to handle their sound and cram it onto disc in a crisp and clear manner. A worthy purchase for fans of the band and also for those wanting to know where later bands such as Primal Fear scored some of their moves from.
Hard paced pure metal.......2005-09-21
I bought keeper of the seven keys II a couple of a years ago after seeing what affiliation Helloween had with bands like Iron Maiden, i am was immediatly stuck with them. But when i saw that the singers switch so many times i was unsure about the other albums becuase i like the guys voice so much. I previewed the songs from the album i realized how naive i was, not only is the singers voice not that much different from Keeper of the Seven keys II(they both have very high toned singing voices), but the music is faster and more intense than ever. The lyrics are again questionable, but that is not the point as this album rocks. The first 6 songs are perfect with a mix of double kicks, epic guitar solos and catchy chorus'. After that however they start to trail downhill as they get slower and wierder. Those songs do not not bring the album a lot however, and some of them are still somewhat strong like their earlier counterparts(The Time Of The Oath).
We Burn, Steel Tormentor, Wake Up The Mountain and Power are almost better than keeper of the seven key II, almost.
Definitly worth buying.
It's the time of the oath!.......2005-08-01
Running solidly in the Keeper tradition, Time of the Oath is a great metal offering from the godfathers of power metal! From the blazing opener We Burn, to the haunting outro and title track Time of the Oath, this album does not disappoint. Some listeners might be turned off by the ballady Forever and One or If I Knew, or the weird Anything My Mamma Don't Like, but these fillers are backed by tracks like the pounding Steel Tormentor, the lively Before the War, the epic Mission Motherland, and the galloping Kings Will Be Kings. Time of the Oath is very dark, heavy, and fast but also shows restraint and poise in is orchestration. This is definitely a Keeper and worth every penny.
Power!!!.......2004-12-30
After Making the very popular Master of the Rings -album, Andi Deris and the band made this album which was quite sad, rebellious, and heavy. The album has some great ballads "Forever And One" and "If I Knew" which both are very sad...both are kind of love songs. There's great upbeat tracks too "Steel Tormentor", "We Burn", "Before the War", "Kings Will be Kings", and "Wake Up the Mountain"...none of them isn't so happy. There's also a sad heavy track "The Time of the Oath" is a tale about Satan taking the control over you. "Mission Motherland" is a long one and is like the most of the songs in "Master of the Rings". "Power" was the first single from this. It is also the most popular song in this album. It is fast and it has great lyrics.
Stars: Forever And One (Neverland), Before the War, Power, The Time of the Oath, We Burn
Solid Effort........2004-09-01
Sounds like classic Helloween. Vocals are right on. The bass work is sick and perfectly placed in the mix. Added to the traditional Helloween sound are at times elements of funk and progressive rock.
The album has a nice pace and plenty of diversity. My favorites are the opening thrasher We Burn and the epic, but quirky Mission Motherland.
In general I haven't enjoyed most of Helloween's work since Keeper Pt. 1 & 2. The Time of the Oath is a pleasant surprise.

Better and heavier than the previous.......2001-02-07
This CD is a punch in the face.Straight metal, pletoric of positive attitude and a powerful sound.Beautiful "Forever and One",and a very dark title-cut.In this album, the guys decided to set free the creativity that seemed to be lost somewhere in the road, and makes "Master of the Rings" look as a good album, but still a pale shade of how far they could go.Still,Michael Weikath's tunes seem to sound pretty much the same. Thanks that he can count on Grapow,Deris and Kusch, who definitely took command of the whole Helloween affair. This is how a band can react to the demmands of the audiences as times change without selling their beliefs or putting out horrid albums.Ok,ok,not all is roses in this album, and some songs fail miserably in the attempt of the band of not sounding too pompous, stuffy or serious. But in an integral sense, the album shows off growth of the new lineup, and a good chemistry in song writing. The highlights?"Power",the title cut,"Before the War"(a beautifully heavy Tchaikovski-like that proves Deris a great songwriter),and of course,"Forever and One".A must-have for metal fans.
The best helloween album so far.......2000-10-29
Some peoples feel helloween's sounds now different than the keeper era. In some ways it is true. But the "new" helloween still follows the same power metal genre that the band helps started. And The Time of The Oath Album (TOTO) is a proof how good this band is. IMHO, TOTO is their best album so far, better than Kepper I and II. If you like Michael Weikath (Weiki) Songs you're not be dissapointed. Weiki wrote great fast melodic songs like "Power", "Kings will be king" and a ballad "If I knew" which is dedicated to the late Helloween drummer Ingo who died commit suicide. Andi Derris sang very well in all of the songs and wrote some beautiful ballads like "Forever and One". So If you helloween fan, buy this album.
Great European Metal!.......2000-07-08
Helloween's follow-up to their great 1994 MASTER OF THE RINGS album, THE TIME OF THE OATH picks up where that album left off. Combining their KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS style with PAINKILLER-era Judas Priest and shades of Yngwie Malmsteen, TTOTO shows Helloween at their best. THE TIME OF THE OATH is their second album with singer Andi Deris and drummer Uli Kusch, and both prove to be invaluable as both their performances AND their songwriting are top-notch. The album ranges in style from their brand of melodic (near) Speed Metal ("We Burn," "Steel Tormentor," "Before The War," and "Kings Will Be Kings"), to very catchy straight-ahead Metal ("Wake Up The Mountain," and "A Million To One") to (what I hesitate to call) Power Ballads ("Forever And One," and "If I Knew"), to the Steve Vai/Steve Stevens influenced "Anything My Mama Don't Like." Less Germanic and more British in style than KEEPER, TTOTO forges ahead with a truly classy Euro-Metal style. At a time when Iron Maiden was disappointing many fans, Helloween took their music up to the next level and picked up the slack. TTOTO is a GREAT album! If you don't have both this album and MASTER OF THE RINGS, you should!
NOT THE SAME!.......2000-05-15
This is the best album of their new era(In case you never heard it before). "Power" and "A million to one" are very good songs, but no comparison to Iron Maiden. Their principal fault is that they are too much band for Andi Deris! When Kai Hansen leaved the group wasn't the same, and when Kiske leaved it became a different band. In my opinion Keeper I and II, are their best album's, also try Maiden's "Piece of Mind" and "Somewhere in Time", and Gamma Ray's "Land of the Free" and "Somewhere out in Space."
Time of Hlloween!!!.......1999-10-24
It's an awesome album! This band is very good. Although tey have been compared to Iron Maiden, the style is a litle different. Helloween is much faster. My favorite songs are We Burn, Power and Steel Tormentor. I've seen this band live and they play loud, very loud!

Helloween is back!.......2000-02-19
On the whole, "Time of the Oath" is an excellent album, harkening back to the classic "Keeper of the Seven Keys" sound. Andi Deris provides some tremendous songwriting on "We Burn" and "Before the War" (probably the fastest song on the album)... "Anything my Mama Don't Like" is very Pink Cream 69-ish, while "Forever & One (Neverland)" rounds out the Deris contributions on a mellow note... Michael Weikath contributes heavily as well with the excellent "Steel Tormentor" and the classic sounding "Kings Will Be Kings" (this track in particular has a double guitar solo reminiscent of the awesome "How Many Tears")... the slow "If I Knew" is fairly decent, while the 9 minute opus "Mission Motherland" is, simply put, astounding... Roland Grapow contributes only one song to the album, but what a doozy: "The Time of the Oath" is one hell of a song, highlighted by another excellent double guitar solo... The biggest surprise, however, is drummer Uli Kusch, who contributes the excellent "Wake up the Mountain" and "A Million to One", along with the amazing bonus track "Take it to the Limit", a song that makes one wonder where this guy learned to write like this! Last but never least, bassist Markus Grosskopf contributes "Still I Don't Know", an import bonus track which I personally consider to be the best track on the entire album. This album is Helloween at their hardest & best, and is a must for any fan that considers himself (or herself) a true listener of real Heavy Metal...
