It takes more than one listen.......2006-09-12
I first got this back when it first came out and thought: what were they thinking? The only song that had any of the old Helix bite was "Sleepin' In The Dog House Again". But hey, it was Helix, it had Kim Mitchell, Lee Aaron and Greg Fraser on it, and Doc Doerner was back, so why not? Over time this one has gradually become one of my favourite Helix discs(although for the record, it was written and recorded with the intention of being a Brian Vollmer solo album)
"That Day Is Gonna Come" is a great tribute to Paul Hackman; "Look Me Straight In The Heart" is a rock duet with plenty of power; "Tug O' War" is mellow, but emotional "Wrong Side Of Bed" is almost a rewrite of their hit "Good To The Last Drop" and there's plenty more on the disc. Some of it does lean more toward country-rock, mostly due to the songwriting influence of Marc Ribler, but don't write it off because of that. If you're open minded enough to accept something different from one of the 80's coolest bands, check out "It's A Business Doing Pleasure" --it'll be worth it.
IT'S ALLRIGHT GIVING US PLEASURE.......2002-04-11
I was a little bummed out when I first heard the album as it wasn't what I expected. I was accustomed to good solid rock of twin guitars instead what I noticed was a lot of acoustic and electric guitar mix. Don't get me wrong, I still appreciate this album. The track of THAT DAY IS GONNA COME is a tribute to the late guitar player Paul Hackman who died in a vehicle accident. What a lose. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if he was still here, where would HELIX be today. There is two versions of LOVE IS A CRAZY GAME heard here on this album as well as on B-SIDES. Just buy the cd, you'll enjoy it.
It's A Pleasure Rocking With Helix.......2001-06-06
Original Helix guitar player Paul Hackman was killed in a tragic bus accident prior to the recording of this album. The sole remaining original member, Brian Vollmer, was left to write the next album with new collaborators, and as a result this album turns out a little darker and softer than you'd expect. Vollmer and mainstay partner/bass player Daryl Gray moved forward and recruited former Brighton Rock guitar maestro Greg Fraser to replace Hackman. Original member Dr. Doerner also returned on guitar for this record.
Starting off, it's instantly noticable that Vollmer's been listening to a lot of Nashville records. Almost every song has that terrific country Fender guitar sound, but with a rock n' roll edge--a little like Mark Knopfler. The first single "That Day Is Gonna Come" is upbeat, a tribute to the life of Paul Hackman. Possibly the best song they'd ever done. For the most part, the rest of the album is made up of slower songs: "Tug Of War", "Love's A Loaded Gun" (almost entirely acoustic with little else for backing tracks) and a duet with Canadian metal queen, Lee Aaron on "Look Me Straight In The Heart".
Another guest appearance: the amazing Kim Mitchell plays lead guitar on one track, a real treat! We get some witty, clever lyrics on "Can't Even Afford To Die" and "Mad Mad World", along with some awesome vocal melodies. It's important to note that Vollmer's singing and songwriting grew tremendously with this album.
The only thing dissapointing about this album is that it is quite a bit softer than what we'd come to expect from Helix. Not to fear, they heavied-up again for the next record Half-Alive, but unfortunately don't play these songs live much anymore. A good guideline: If you like Helix songs like "Deep Cuts The Knife", "Dream On", and "Good To The Last Drop", then buy this album. If you're looking for another "Rock You", look elsewhere.

Decent Helix Album.......1999-01-26
There are some decent tunes on this album, but like the previous reviewer, I was disappointed with some of the songs. They just weren't "Helix" enough for me... came off sort of weak and underpowered.
Helix fans will definately want this one -- as all songs are new and not found on other albums.

NOT THE SAME HELIX .......2005-06-28
I don't like when hard rockers "Tone it down". I really loved this band up until this album. It is way too slow for me and not enough energy. If you really want to hear how this band rocks your ass off, get some of their earlier material and "CRANK IT UP". I think after the passing of guitarist Paul Hackman they lost their ability to produce hard rock. Sorry guys, I'm still a long time Helix fan just not of this effort.
