5 out of 5 stars Very Catchy.......2007-04-03

I like this album even more than Provisions, Fiction, and Gear. It's very melodic and the songs stay with you throughout the day. I think Immune to Gravity is the finest track on the album... however, this is one of the few albums that I listen to entirely. There are no throw-away tracks on this one.

5 out of 5 stars Moth - Immune to Gravity.......2006-03-26

The album is great. Better than most new bands out there. Haven't had a chance to see the live shows but will soon. Anyways go out and get this album. You won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars This album deserves to be huge!.......2006-03-23

First off you have to see these guys live, they put on one of the best live shows I have seen! Secondly after listening to this record you will not want to do anything else but see these guys live! Moth have succeed in creating an album that both sounds raw as an early Devo record but with a beautiful production value that perfectly preserves their music's energy and live sound on disc. Brad's lyrics are witty and precise while the music is diverse and powerful. In my option there are so many bands out there that get close but these guys get it. The tightness of the group, Kevin's drums and Eli's bass lines, The Billionaire and Brad's guitars seemed like they have been playing with each other since birth. The opener "Helpless" sets a tone that so many other albums I have purchased have been able to reach maybe on that first track, but this album delivers from beginning to end. Let it be known this is no fluke for this band as they have done the time and time again prior to this release, but with the present line up and the present energy you can't help but wonder if in a very short time these sounds will be reverberating through every single 13 - 75 year olds stereo's! "Immune to Gravity" filled me with the excitement I first had getting into music digging through my parents records hearing something that although you could label it rock, or post-punk or pop you just knew it was freaking amazingly good.

5 out of 5 stars A masterpiece!.......2004-03-10

I appreciate this CD more and more with every listen. Keneally's brilliant mind flashes in a million sparkling ways on this release, featuring a live CD, and a "live" studio CD. The guitar work is ecstatic, wild, quirky at times, and precise to the ultimate degree. Lyrically it ranges from sad and chilling ("If there is a God there's no skin on his face, a fiendish skull that rains terror on me...") to hilariously funny. In The Car Song, for instance, he tells a minor story that's really a joke, and not a funny one except as delivered by Keneally.

Bryan Beller is an amazing bassist, perfect for the job. Toss Panos's drumming is so amazing that in my 30-some years as a rock fan, I can't say I've ever heard a drummer so completely outstanding in every way.

Mike's liner notes give interesting detail to the songs- he has something to say about each tune. His web site includes all lyrics. He includes a track of the band creating a song from scratch, and just enough out-takes to give the listener a pretty good sense of the band. What more could you ask for? Mike and the band playing live in your living room?

Spin this CD, and that's right where they are!

5 out of 5 stars A fun and brilliant live album!.......2000-01-26

This is one of those albums that after falling in love with it, I can never imagine removing it from my CD player. Mike Keneally is a musical genius with a load of ideas, total originality and a knack for making all of those things be fun. There is such an incredible live feel to this album. Directions are given to band members, jokes made, and witty dialogue exchanged. All this stuffed between some of the most engaging and challenging music that you will hear. I am a big Keneally fan and this CD is super accessible for those scared by the super musicianship and any fear of the Zappa connection (blasphemy!). I love a good live album, and this is in my Top 10 of all time. Listen, enjoy, laugh.

5 out of 5 stars Nothing Can Describe this cd!.......1999-02-12

This cd shows that he is pure genius. Only he can play guitar and keyboard at the same time. Where else can you hear a band make up a song as they play "The Unhappy Monologist", its incredible. 2 thumbs up on this one. Buy this. No matter what music you like. BUY it. It has everything. Angry songs, pop songs, funny songs. instrumentals that will make you go crazy trying to play. The best ever.

5 out of 5 stars Mike Keneally's stunning power-trio plays live.......1998-09-01

Great live-album from the talented Mike Keneally (ex-Zappa, Z, Steve Vai) and beer for Dolphins. The first CD is recorded live in the studio, and combines top-of-the-line musicianship with hilarious goofs and unrehearsed jamming. It's amazing to hear how a three-piece band can reproduce the multi-layered sound of Keneally's prior studio albums.

The second CD is a "real" live-in-concert recording, and it showcases Keneally on keyboards and guitar simultaneously! Drummer Toss Panos and bassist Bryan Beller play fantastically well together.

If you're into Zappa, you just have to check out Keneally's strong songwriting, ming-boggling guitar playing, brilliant lyrics and sense of humor.

Here is a list of Keneally's other albums: Hat, Boil that dust speck, Sluggo, Soap scum remover (live video), Tar tapes I, Tar tapes II

    4 out of 5 stars A good cd. 3 1/2 stars.......2006-06-03

Boy, I've had this cd for a while now. Can't believe that I haven't reiewed it yet. Here goes. Immune was my fourth metal disc and I have had it two years now. I don't have their previous albums, so I can't make any comparisons here. But from what I heard, their fist cd is death metal and their second cd is death metal with some hardcore in it. On the other hand, this disc is basicaly gothenburg metal mixed with hardcore and a little nu-metal. It's not a bad release but definitely could have been better. It's very melodic throughout and the lyrics are somewhat dark. My only real complaints is that it is too short, 38 min., and the music starts to sound the same, and thar I wish that they were a little harder and kept a little more death metal in their sound. Too bad it was their last cd, Lance, rocky, and Chad make a great team.

4 out of 5 stars Better Than the First.......2005-06-21

I've had this cd for awhile. This is an album that grows on you the more u listen to it. At first I thought it was good, just not great. But the more I listened the more I liked. My favorite songs on this cd are "I Bury You", "Abandoned", "Someone Just Walked Across My Grave", and "Own Your Own". If your a Living Sacrifice fan then pick this one up.

    3 out of 5 stars Excellent album.......2004-08-19

This is an excellent thrash metal album. The vocals remind me a bit of the black metal style. A previous reviewer made the comment that Soul Embraced's drummer is the same drummer from Evanescence. This is actually not correct. The drummer for Soul Embraced is Lance Garvin, he was also the drummer for Living Sacrifice until they disbanded about a year ago. The guitarist for Soul Embraced is Rocky Gray. He was also one of the guitarists for Living Sacrifice. Rocky Gray is the drummer for Evanescence. This album is excellent. Though not quite as good as "This is my blood". But that's just my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Soul Embraced----My new favorite Solid State band!.......2004-05-08

I got Solid State 3 for christmas and there was an older soul embraced song on it. I didn't really like it that much, but then a little while later, i bought Solid State 4 and they had a newer soul embraced song. It was just aWESOME!!!! So i got there cd and they r just really AWESOME!!!! Another good heavy metal band to add to my heavy metal collection.

2 out of 5 stars Shut up and play!.......2000-03-28

I bought this album a few days ago and I must say I'm disappointed. My expectations were high, having read about his amazing guitar work in magazines and having seen him on the G3 video. Now, that impressed me! As I listened to the album, all I could think was "When is he going to blow me away on the guitar?" That never happened. He is a good piano player, though. The bottom line is; if you want a good guitar album, avoid this. If you want a Zappa-esque album with crazy lyrics, go for it.

5 out of 5 stars Diverse, accessible but difficult to classify gem.......1999-04-09

It's rare to find an album this accessible on the first listen but so hard to describe. That's because it's a diverse album, with excellent songwriting and engaging hooks, but unique in its approach to these very same songs. The tunes range from hard rock to jazz fusion to, for lack of a better word, complex rock. Keneally once toured with Frank Zappa so there's a Zappa influence, but this is definitely no Zappa clone. And even though Keneally has plenty of chops to spare, it's not a guitar god album either. "Potato", "Why Am I Your Guy?" and "Frozen Beef (Come With Me)" are as catchy as they are original; Egg Zooming is excellent Brufordesque fusion; and Looking for Nina is Zappaesque in its eccentricity. This album is not for those who are looking for the same style of song throughout with a sappy ballad thrown in. It's also not for those who cringe at the name "Frank Zappa" for no good reason. It is for those who have diverse tastes--perhaps a progressive or fusion bent like early Queen, Yes, Bruford, or Return to Forever, but equally comfortable with "The White Album" and perhaps hard rock acts like early Van Halen or Stone Temple Pilots--hey even a little Joni Mitchell thrown in.

5 out of 5 stars A true musician in the full sense of the word........1999-03-01

With all the people out there that just "play in a band," it's refreshing to come across a true, 100% real, musician. Mike Keneally is someone who puts as much effort into evolving his songwriting as he does his guitar playing (and piano and drums and singing.)

I feel lucky in that my first exposure to Mike's music was at a live show. Their performance was just as diverse as their album, probably more so. In the middle of one of their sets, they broke into a great rendition of "I'm So Tired" off the White Album. I ordered "Sluggo!" the next day.

This album is chock full of creative goodness. Everything from the odd-yet-hypnotic grooves in "Looking For Nina" to the so-catchy-it's-stuck-in-your-head riffs in "Chatfield Manor." Not only can Mike Keneally write a song that makes you listen to it, he's one of the best guitarists I've heard in a long time. He ranks right up there with his friend, Steve Vai.

As a final note, I just want to say that if you get a chance to see Mike Keneally or Beer For Dolphins in concert, DO NOT pass it up.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Music Ever Made.......1999-02-18

I purchased said recording when it was first available and haven't been able to stop listening to it. Mikey has a rare gift of being able to blend "first glance beautiful" and "long life interesting." -- Hooks with heft -- Great melodies held together by great orchestration -- Diverse tastes will be satisfied in whole -- Just buy it already!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding songwriting and musicianship!.......1998-11-23

Mike Keneally never ceases to amaze. Besides being an outstanding instrumentalist and singer, he is a fantastic songwriter. His music constantly surprises you rhythmically and harmonically, and you'll never get bored.

I love the Coltraneish guitar solo and polyrythmic extravaganza in "Egg Zooming", the wierd funk grooves in "Looking for Nina", and the raw rock power in "Why am I your guy?", but it's Keneally's outstanding songwriting that makes this album his best ever. Check out "Chatfield Manor", "I'm afraid" and "Own", and you'll know what I mean.

Having played shows with the likes of Pelican, Oceansize and Aereogramme, Immune are turning heads in all directions and the momentum will continue throughout 2007 with shows and tours planned throughout the year. 5 out of 5 stars A just all around great cd..........2002-09-01

Dezeray's Hammer did a great job in making their cd.My favorite type of music is punk and alternitave.Dezeray's Hammer is just that (more alterative however.)Their playing is awsome with great lryics to pull it together.I am from South Carolina like they are which is just a little more bonus for me to like them.I hope they keep up the good work, and if so I will be a ever lasting fan.

        5 out of 5 stars Finally.......2001-09-21

I have known about Dezerays Hammer since their days as Albert Hill; and I honestly can't put into words how incredible these guys are. Every song is just amazing. DH is definitely one of the most talented bands around, and it is about time they are starting to get the exposure they have long deserved. They are even more incredible live. If you get the chance to go see them live, don't walk...run to the venue and check them out; I promise you won't be sorry. I assure you that this will be one of...if not the best...purchases you will make this year.

        5 out of 5 stars every song a hit.......2001-09-20

I live in South Carolina and I just happened to stumble upon these guys at their CD release party. It was the first time I had heard them and what amazed me was that I loved every single song they played. I bought their CD and have been to two more concerts. Whether you listen to them live or to their CD you will not be disappointed!!!

        5 out of 5 stars Outstanding...Simply Outstanding!.......2001-08-23

For those of us who have been following these guys long before the got their chance with a major label, the superior quality of this offering is no great surprise. From "What I Think" to "Salvation", there is not a weak link to be found here. Be advised, the live show is where these guys really shine, and if they come to your town, do yourself the favor of making it a point to be there for the experience. "Never Walk Away" and "Praying" are destined for greatness with the right exposure behind them, as could be "She Levels Me" and "Notice". There is a great mix here with mostly stylish, straight-up rock and roll songs with a few more easy-going slow downs mixed in, such as "If You Don't Know" and "All For Me". There is nothing too trendy or overdone about this disc. The sound is as flawless as the music it provides. They've been getting it done down south for years, and it's only now in 2001 that the rest of the country gets the chance to get in on the act. Talented and inspired MUSICIANS delivering meaningful, high-quality music. What a unique concept in the current musical landscape!

Best of luck to the boys from Albert Hill!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Thought Provoking, Moving.......2000-01-11

This album, by a talented composer who also happens to be an unbelievable guitar player (Beck, Frank Black, Jellyfish, Todd Rundgren, etc.,) will take you on a journey through your subconscious like a drive through changing landscape. It opens the senses to forgotten emotions and inspires in infinite ways. Every time I listen to this CD (which is often, as I can't seem to stop craving the experience,) I hear new elements and ride the wave of beautiful melodies, letting my imagination navigate. Every piece is a gem. This guy has a sound all his own, and I look forward to hearing much more from him.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for any music lover........1998-12-01

What a great CD. Lyle shows the world why he is recording with creative superstars such as Frank Black, and They Might Be Giants. Honestly, I usually don't buy instrumental albums, but take my word for it: if you only buy one instrumental album in your life make it this one. I have been admiring Lyle's work since I first heard him playing lead on Frank Black's The Cult of Ray. His style is so distinctive that after listening to the song "New York City" by They Might Be Giants, I went running to my CD case to prove my suspicions. But forget those bands, Lyle Workman's music stands alone. Buy the CD, put it in your car, and just try to get to work without driving your car off the road while playing air guitar.
