A genre-bending sonic onslaught, this disc is not for the faint-hearted. Static-X skillfully blend angry staccato guitar, dark metallic noise, and mutating synthesizer washes to construct an ominous (though occasionally humorous) wall of sound. Lead vocalist Wayne Static's high-energy delivery alternates from whisper to roar on tracks such as "Bled for Days" and "I Am," and he often uses his voice as a potent rhythmic sound effect, as on "Push It" and "Sweat of the Bud." Tony Campos's distorted bass riffs and drummer Ken Jay's confident beats add a human feel to the mechanical rhythms, adroitly creating the tight grooves of "Otsegolation" and "Fix," as well as the rigid swing in "Stem." Wayne Static and Koichi Fukuda skillfully combine guitars and keyboards on "The Trance Is the Motion" to produce crashing waves of sound, while their programming on "December" results in a more subdued piece to close the album. --Mark McCleerey

5 out of 5 stars What's so bad about WI?.......2007-08-01

Static-X burst onto the scene around my junior/senior year of highschool and instantly became very popular with my friends and I. Push It became an instant classic and the title track remains one of their best songs. While this was their most successful outing, they have continued to release solid cds over the greater part of the last decade. Referred to as "evil disco" by many, they combine elements of industrial metal, thrash, and hard rock to make their mark on the heavy music scene. No one sounds like Static-X, and while they stick pretty close to their formula, somehow they keep making fun music with solid hooks and good head-banging riffs and beats. If you are getting into them, I would start here, as this is their strongest record and has four hit songs on it.

4 out of 5 stars The first (and only) true Static-X album..........2007-04-06

Being that I just wrote a review for the abysmal "Cannibal," in which I stated that the band will never again be what they were when they created "Wisconsin Death Trip" (i.e., a good band), I felt compelled to write a glowing review of this album. It was truly cutting-edge; so much so that the band could never approach it's ingenuity and originality again. Instead, they've morphed into a Korn/NIN monstrosity that seems to only want to make retreads of songs that failed to gain our respect the first time around. What a disappointment this band turned out to be. With every album they have released since this one, I've been sincerely disappointed and have only wanted to hear something in the same league of their original. Alas, at this point, we can conclude that it will likely never happen. This band was once one of the truly exciting acts in metal, and it's a real shame that they've become what they have...in a word, boring.

5 out of 5 stars walmart is corrupt, a two star CD, HA!!!!.......2007-02-22

attention all walmart customers, Why did rate this CD only two? are you real heavy metal fans, are you just jelous because rap has no talent, because metal bands acually know about music, know how to pay an instrument? In order to understand and enjoy Static x you must first sit down and give it a try, acually listen to the songs. This is a five star easy. Static x is one of the heaviest bands I have ever heard. they easily stands up to other great bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Iron maiden, disturbed, and system of a down. Oh and Godsmack.
and also rob zombie, yes rob zombie.
Quote, "if you enjoy these other bands I have listed, please consider Static x"

5 out of 5 stars Oh My God.......2007-01-26

I'm in love. This has to be one of the greatest albums of all time. My personal favorite anyway. Not my favorite band but damn near close. All of the tracks are awesome but among the best are track 11 "the trance is the motion" and track 3 "bled for days"... you know what I'll just stop right there because, like I said, I'm in love. In love with the album as a whole.

3 out of 5 stars X's Best Album.......2006-12-15

For what it's worth, this is probably the best of the Static X' albums. If you're going to get one, this is it.

    5 out of 5 stars Very good!.......2004-06-10

I liked pretty much every song, there are only two slow songs and they are pretty good themselves. This is a must buy for any major Static-x fan.

1 out of 5 stars A repetetive barrage of cliches.......2000-09-27

This is probably one of the least-talented groups I have ever heard; I can barely believe they have any fans, let alone a record deal and a hit CD! This album consists mainly of variations on one idiotically simple song structure -- 3 chords with screamed vocals, fast and heavy. Literally, all of the songs sound the same! The lyrics are abrasive, but with less feeling than Trent Reznor's; in fact, they sound more like Rob Zombie's. Writer Wayne Static seems to have the same obsession with the scatological (e.g. "I am", "Love Dump") that one might expect of a 12-year-old boy. The main instruments on this CD are slashed industrial-rock guitars, and the presence of common, overused synthesizer effects do nothing to improve the overall sound. They have none of the innovation or politics of Rage Against the Machine, none of the cheesy amusement of Rob Zombie, and none of the imagination or heartfeltness of Nine Inch Nails. Instead of innovating, they merely rehash the same old devices.

5 out of 5 stars Exstatic about Static-X.......2000-09-24

This is one of my best overall cd's. Here we have an album with Metallica worthy guitar, mixed with Powerman 5000 attiude and a Rob Zombie like voice. Good mix! Static-X is one of the most promising bands out right now. Rock on Static-X!

5 out of 5 stars Keep disco evil!.......2000-06-14

This album combines several musical qualities to make a hard rock album with real metal that also makes great dance music! And my brother said,NOTHING, you idiots he's dead! I got him locked in my basement! So remember, KEEP DISCO EVIL!

    3 out of 5 stars Difference makes a difference.......1999-12-13

Just short this but it has to be said that this is a good listen in its own way. If your into rap metal or any industrial stuff you will love it. Cool riffs etc and lastability. Grows on you too. It will probably warrant a 5 star reveiw later......

Static-X, if ever they shall read this, here is some tips: 1.Keep a good rock hard beat! 2.Test it out on some rockin fans 3.Just make sure it just plain rockz! Well there u have it, but I must recommend "Bled For Days", my favorite, because of the really fast part and how it soundz! Peace E-Z: PoWeRmAn 6000

    5 out of 5 stars Static X what?.......1999-12-21

I Never heard of Static X untill I saw their show. My kid brother needed a shaparone in order for our parents to allow him to see the show. Since he has been blackmaling for the past year because of a certain situation I became the shaparone. It was the first time Static X played in Cleveland and the first time I ever had been to a metal show. These days I have been listening to Cher, Madonna and, such so their show was something of a different nature. They opened up with the song, I'm with Stupid, and at that very moment I was hooked. Their riffage is full of hooks that can not be denied. Waynes' voice has a unforgetable sound that takes you to a metal world of passion. Static X's has a sound that keeps you listening, they become a drug and you can not turn the CD off of play mode. The conclusion of this review, this band made me a metal head and I am glad they did. I also got Wayne's autograph on a Brian Seitzer Orchestra ticket stub because I could not find their ticket stub. Static X is what I am about.
