5 out of 5 stars A return to the old school metal that Maiden and Priest used to make.......2006-02-24

Let's face it, Iron maiden 2006 are a much different band than say 1985. When Brave New World was going to be released, everyone in the metal world were crossing their fingers for something like Number of the Beast or Killers due to the reunion with Smith and Dickinson. Well we all know they have not been able to recapture the magic of the band and songs that they were in the 1980's. Now we accept Maiden as a shadow of their former selves. Too Bad.
Fast forward to the 2000's. Bands like Steel Prophet, Cage, Hammerfall, Jacob's Dream and now Twisted Tower Dire are bringing back the style of metal that went out of fashion a decade or so ago. Guitar solos are back, catchy singalongs, and actual singing instead of the death growls that have been shoved at us as actual vocals for a long time. The drumming sets the pace and the guitarists just go wild. The vocalist doesn't have the Air raid siren range of young Dickenson but that is a good thing. His range is very wide but doesn't sound like he is grabbing his 'nads to hit a high note. Very enjoyable. This band would have been huge in the day of the Headbanger's Ball but that doesn't mean that this band sounds dated at all. It is actually the opposite, thanks to production of Pete from Iron Savior who used to work on those early Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray recordings. There is not one particular track that stands out on this just kind of one track equalling the next, the listener not quite ready to believe what he is hearing, 100% quality heavy metal like in the classic days. It is very hard to find something this good that is actually new and not some reissue of an album two decades old. I am in heaven. CHECK IT OUT NOW!

5 out of 5 stars truly astounding metal this is the future of true metal.......2006-02-06

i was amazed at the talent of this band the singer just owns the mic and the guitarist has one truly amazing classic heavy style. this band takes all the qualities of all the old classic 80's metal bands that we true metal heads know and love and makes it a style all their own, dont get me wrong there is plenty of newer power metal styles to be heard in their music. if you love bands like omen, attacker, sacred oath, tnt, manowar, warlock, or riot, and if you love newer acts like, nocturnal rites, tad morose, silent force, thunderstone, wolf, wolfcry, nostradameus, primal fear, helloween, or even gamma ray, and if you love mellodic acts like, pretty maids, pink cream, and axel rudi pell, you will love this band, this band is a perfect addition to any metal collection. it is traditional power metal with a new flair . i love my metal to have lots of mellody and to be full of songs that i cant get out of my head. t.t.d. write amazing songs full of mellody and an almost sing along style of lyrics. songs like at night, fight to be free, and by my hand will revolve in your head for days. this music makes you feel great and you cant help but throw your fist in the air and thank god for allowing us to live long enough to discover metal that is so amazing as this. if mtv only had the guts to show the states what americans are missing out on it would surely spark a new era. over seas this is whats in. metal has allways been and will allways be. as long as bands like twisted tower dire never give up or sell out metal can never die. even bands like edguy, stratovarius, and hammerfall who also fit in with this band could really show the world what music is all about. well any way where i live this music is unheard of. in my county im like possibly the only true metal head, you have to order powermetal here to get it cause all our stores sell are stuff like korn, or slipknot, or rap, so it really sucks around here, i am constantly burning people power metal mixes and trying to spread the word about true metal and so far i have made alot of people see just what they are missing, i mean you cant help but fall into a spell when you hear just how awesome metal can be. i own nearly 700 metal albums so i am able to turn people here on to lots of awesome power metal bands. this band are one of my all time favorites and i cant wait to get the isle of the hydra album. so if its mellody and power you want then step into the crest of the martyrs and let it twist your mind and speed up your heart with amazing metal hymns and ballads, look no further cause twisted tower dire is here. also check out into eternity, if you also like more aggressive metal like arch enemy then this band is for you they are mellodic with clean vocals and all of a sudden turn into a huge aggressive growling force. also try out such acts as godiva, twilightning, pyramaze, or dragonland and evergrey. metal heads rejoice cause metal is here to stay and so many bands continue to appear and truly amaze me. and twisted tower dire are absolutely one of the best.

5 out of 5 stars The Something I have been missing in metal since Iron Maiden grew old.......2005-06-30

Crest of the Martyrs in many ways brought back the fervor I once felt for metal. The guitars pound away with both the gallop and a melody. It's not ultra distorted and short. These guys can really play their instruments and show it repeatedly. The lead singer actually sings. He hasn't fallen victim to the prevailing winds of distorting the vocals into some sort of barely decipherable noise. And when he bangs out the high notes, he hits them and hold them. What can I say, these things work for me. Ever since I got this disc as a gift from a friend, it has been consistently in rotation virtually every day.

From the get go on "At Night", I get sucked into the devilishly rich fantasy realm they are painting and stay there all the way to "Fight to Be Free". After that the songs start to feel a little repetitive. Not that that's a real bad thing for these guys, but I've never really joined in with the idea that metal is extra fun when you start out with a balladesque beginning like you are going to go all Poison's "Every Rose Has A Thorn" and then morph into the rockers you really are. I don't care about sensitivity with my metal. They can be two mutually exclusive terms as far as I'm concerned.

The only other thing that slightly puts me off is that this really is fantasy metal straight from middle earth which can be fun up to a point, but rocking to the wizards and their fantastical realm can be a little too much at times.

No matter what the negatives are this is a phenominal album and these guys deserve much more attention and accolades than they are getting. It shows a stylish growth from their last album "Isle of Hydra" and leaves me anxiously awaiting the next.

5 out of 5 stars Twisted Tower Dire -bringing real Metal back to the masses!.......2004-07-04

Twisted Tower Dire's Crest of The Martyrs is the band's 3rd lp and their first on Remedy records from Germany. This is the japanese version with a cover version of song from a band called Tarot . It also contains a new version of a song from the first TTD album "The Witches Eye"
If you are a fan of real Heavy Metal you need this cd. Influences range from Maiden and Priest to more underground styled bands. Vocals are in the mid to high range and are clean, no ridiculous cookie monster death growling here, actual talent is required. Songs like "Some Other Time, Some Other Place", "Axes and Honor" and "Guardian Bloodline" are already classics and will be stuck in your head after one or two listens. This cd was produced by Pete Sielck of Iron Saviour , who has produced such other great bands such as Blind Guardian and Gun Barrel did an excellent job with a slick production . It is rumoured for their next cd the band will return with an even heavier sound but still with quality production. The German version of this cd doesn't have the Tarot track yet it is a lot cheaper than the japanese price wise.... Unlike bands like Wolf who just blatantly rip off Maiden , TTD draws influence from Maiden but has their own style and their songwriting just keeps getting better . (Includes current and former members of of October 31, Revelation, While Heaven Wept, Ballistic and Arghos Lent. This kicks the crap out of the last Maiden lp! Makes saint anger look like a complete waste of time and money (which it is)
Some major label needs to sign this band and bring back real Metal to the masses! If you are convinced there are no good bands left in Metal , check out TTD + Crest Of The Martyrs, your faith may well be restored...
I wish them all the success in the world
with AXES AND HONOR....
cheers lads! Up the Towers!
