what the F***??.......2007-07-23
I cannot understand why this band never got the attention that say metallica, megadeth, slayer, etc got. Sepultura "thrashes" the other thrash bands to pieces IMO. This record makes Metallica sound like Justin Timberlake. This album is heavy duty from start to finish with little or no filler material. There are many standout tracks but I like inner self the best. Max's vocals are truly rough and satanic sounding on this cut. Grab this and Arise to start with and if you like those pick up Chaos A.D. and Roots(more tribal sounding). This band SHOULD have been more mainstream as it without a doubt is right up there with the best thrash bands.
F*cking Wild.......2007-06-13
I don't know why idiots keep on referring to this album as Death Metal--when it's not. It's Thrash!!!! Listen to the damn thing!!! This is Thrash Metal!! I guess every album morons hear with roaring vocals is Death Metal. Thats an ignorant categorization...but then again, these are idiots right? Anyway,by far, this is Sepultura's greatest album, hands down. Riffs, lyrics, drumming (my favorite) are excellently played and are in sync for the Thrash genre. "Inner Self","Mass Hypnosis" and "Slave of Pain" caught my attention. The solos are just so beautiful,it's best to hear them and interpret them as your own. Stunning work. Buy it.
Gets better with every listen.......2007-01-23
My radio won't get loud enough for this CD. And its already about to blow my drums out. If you want a stripped down head thrashing metal album - this is your huckleberry right here. Honestly, makes Chaos AD sound like Michael Jackson. And I love Chaos AD.
If you like Death Metal or Speed Metal... or actually ANY metal and don't own this you should feel very ashamed of yourself. Its just killer.
You can't get rawer than BTR........2006-10-24
This album RULES but it's not, I repeat, not Sepultura's best. "Schizophrenia" is the king of Sep' albums and "Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation" is a close second, this album comes third but is very close to MV/BD.
With that out of the way, I'd like to say this album just flat out rules and will pulverize the listener with it's intense speed, so much so this makes Metallica's entire discography sound like Brittany Spears. You can't deny the awesomeness of this album, from "Beneath the Remains" to the closer "Primitive Future," you'll be headbanging nonstop. Plus, who can deny the sheer awesomeness of "Innerself?"
Every track is nothing short of kickass, but the best are "Beneath the Remains," "Innerself," "Stronger than Hate," and "Primitive Future."
"Beneath the Remains" is A MUST HAVE for all speed metal fans. Not for fans of Korn or Linkin Park because they won't be able to handle BTR's sheer speed and brutality.
One of Thrash Metal's finest.......2006-09-21
If you want a good introduction to Sepultura, this isn't the best place to start(check out either Roots, their last good album, or Chaos A.D., which is one of the finest metal albums of all time). After you check those out, get Arise, which is also one of the best metal albums ever. If you enjoyed that, then run straight to your nearest C.D. store and buy this right away! Now, onto the album. While their next album,Arise, has a more Metallica and Iron Maiden inspired sound, this one is much more remenicent of Slayer or Morbid Angel. With that said, this album does NOT ever let up; it's just straight up, all out thrash/death metal, with some awesome solos and tight songwriting to boot. In fact, this album is so awesome, you wouldn't be crazy to say that it trumps even the Slayer classic "Reign in Blood", which to anyone who has heard that amazing album may seem like a bold statement. I argue that this very well might be the best metal album of all time, but if you just wanna rock out, then you definitly could do much worse. Very highly recommended to anyone who likes any form of metal.

A FUN BALLET WITH QUITE A HISTORY!.......2000-01-30
It can be said that La Sylphide (Sylfiden as the Danes call it, was premiered by the Royal Danish Ballet in 1836), composed by Herman Severin Lovenskiold and choreographed by Bournonville, is the earliest piece of ballet music from the Romantic period that has been recorded. However, an ealier version of the same ballet by a different composer (Schneitzhoeffer)--no recordings--and choreographer has been revived by the Paris Ballet (Who knows how faithful it is to the original!). La Sylphide is a story about a female spirit, called the Sylphide, who falls in love with a young man; he too falls in love with her. But the little courtship is to be cut short by a witch. The fairy tale ends with the death of the Sylphide. The star ballerina of the first version of La Sylphide was Marie Taglioni, who was forever associated with the beginning of the Romantic ballet. Now we come to the version recorded on this CD. First, a little history. After the Danish choreographer, August Bournonville, saw Marie Taglioni dance in the role of the Sylphide at the Paris Opera, he wanted to stage his own production of the ballet. But first, he had to purchase the rights for using the score (by Schneitzhoeffer), but to his disappointment, it was too expensive. Consequently, he decided to have entirely new music written. And the man to accomplish this was Lovenskiold. So successful was this second version that the complete Bournonville choreography along with Lovenskiold's score are still used today by the Royal Danish Ballet. This is a superb "complete" performance by the Danish Radio Sinfoniette. The sound is clear and rich! Damgaard who has been the chief conductor at the Royal Danish Theatre since 1990 conducts beautifully. Under his baton, the orchestra makes the music sound alive and poignant. For those who are interested in ballets or just a great fairy tale, I highly recommend they get this CD. The only alternative recording is the one on Chandos, performed by the Royal Danish Orchestra (conducted by Garforth). It is also excellently performed (Read my review for that recording!). That CD contains an extra number (a pas de deux, which is not ever played as part of the complete ballet), which is a delight to hear! The CPO version, however, contains James' Act 1 solo, which is not in the Chandos recording. If you're a completist, get both!
Excellent recording of Lovenskiold 's Ballet.......1999-10-26
It is a beatiful recording of the first romantic ballet, who has a precursor on Taglioni's Sylphide (which can be appreciate on video recording by Ghislene Thesmar interpretation with the corps of Opera Paris Ballet, music by Scheneihoffer, available at amazon.com). The perfomance of Lovenskiold partiture by the Danish Radio Simfonieta conducted by Daamgaardt is perfect, without affectation and it reach the maximum climax on second act. I bought this record because I listen on the radio the overture and the introduction of the first act, which inmediately decided me to find out and bought this version. There is only a criticism to the booknote which is included on the CD. Taglioni 's Sylphide has been succesfull performed in our century, on the seventies by a reconstruction taken on by Pierre Lacotte and interpreted by Ghislaine Thesmar. Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires offer this version on 1974 on stage and it was suscefull received at Argentine and many great Argentine Ballerinas interpreted the beautiful role of the light Sylphide.
